I brought in a knife to be sharpened, and was really blown away by the quality of the work they did. It was just a cheapo 8" Henckels chef's knife, and I think it was sharper when I got it back from SLT than it was when I bought it new. I can slice through anything like it's butter now. And not only did they do a great job, they did it fast -- 2 day turnaround, during the week between Christmas and New Year no less. I got a phone call letting me know if was ready for pickup. Nicely done. The one downside is that it's very touristy, and often very crowded. Not a huge deal, just kind of alarming because there's not a lot of space to maneuver and I'm always afraid I'll knock something over. read more

It's always been overpriced, or at least pricey, but the selection of cooking gear and kitchen gadgets is amazing -- the store is filled from floor to ceiling and wall to wall! I'm writing this review because this location is just okay. Maybe because it is near Pike Place, I don't receive the customer service I expect to receive from a Seattle-based business. Often times, I can't find someone to help me and wait in line at the register to ask a question. I did notice on my last visit that when I checked out they asked me who helped me (no one). So maybe this is their way of evaluating whether this is a problem. On my last visit, my cashier was very nice but I noticed something odd: I, like most people who live in Seattle, brought my own bag. (A nice reusable/washable bag that folds up and has a cute design BTW.) When asked if I wanted a bag, I said I had my own and placed it on the counter. The person at the register then put the receipt on top of my items and left them for me to bag myself. There was no mistake, I paused to make sure that the person wasn't just slow in bagging my items. That's right, they did NOT put my items into my bag as if they think that they only have to put items into their paper bags and don't actually want to provide great customer service to customers who care about the environment by bringing their own bag. If this were one of those cities that allowed stores to use plastic bags, I'd understand if a clerk didn't know what to do with my reusable bag but this is Seattle. I guess next time, if I want a full customer experience that includes bagging my items, I'll participate in the killing of trees and take one of their disposable paper bags. read more

I tried to use a Visa gift card issued by my company. It took 20 minutes to checkout as they said they couldn't verify if the card was good for the amount. Complained using the web site, manager contacted me but never followed through with sending me a response and something for my trouble. A visit to Sur La Table makes me wish I were a talented chef instead of just a wannabe home cook who's just happy to avoid burning the meal! Sur La Table is an upscale kitchen superstore jam-packed with everything from espresso machines that cost as much as a small car to gorgeous table linens in a rainbow of colors. It's SO much fun to browse the store that I make a point to come anytime I'm in Seattle. In addition to the large selection of merchandise, the sales staff is friendly and helpful. The only downside is that after shopping this place, my wallet is considerably lighter. Fortunately, since I'm traveling, I'm automatically limited to how much stuff I can take away! Small Sur La Table but you can't blame them since they are right by Pike Place. They always have some sort of sale going on and I highly recommend to stop by and look around. If you have a specific thing in mind, don't be overwhelmed by the layout and just ask someone. They are always really friendly and sometimes even help you find something else you were looking for! This is sort of a cornerstone of Pike Place Market (albeit up a hill)... and I always find myself getting sucked in when in the area. It's a well-stocked kitchen store (I remember us getting the catalog when I was a kid), and there's always fun stuff to look at. Bizarre gadgets, silly towels nobody needs, and of course, swanky cutlery and pots and pans. Actually, the quality of most of what they sell is quite good, and the "house brand" puts out some quality products as well. I've purchased Sur La Table pots, etc. and have always had good experiences. The people working there are always helpful and unobtrusive. If they help you out they'll take the stuff over to the checkout to stash it so you're not carrying it around. Which makes me happy :-) The quality of their products is great, but some things can be a bit pricey. The original Sur La Table! Definitely gets points for that, although I have to deduct a star for the fact that this place is CROWDED. In part this is because of its location (it's pretty much in the thick of things around Pike Place Market). But it's also just a small little shop. So small they don't even have a kitchen for cooking classes and the like (you have to go to the Sur La Table in Kirkland for that). Still, if you like to cook, there is no way you can not love this store. It's got everything you need and plenty of stuff you don't need as well. Obviously it's not the cheapest, but they do tend to have some decent sales here. Last time I went I got some silicon cupcake holders which are an incredible space saver in my tiny apartment (the last thing I needed was another bulky baking sheet). I also scored a very reasonably priced knife that was recommended to me by the experts at Cook's Illustrated. Even with the crowds, I think the customer service is pretty excellent here. Or maybe they're just worried about people stealing stuff so they keep a closer eye on their customers? Whatever the case, I will continue to come here for all my specialty baking needs! read more

I won't lie, i love this place, and nothing makes me happier than perusing the aisles/corners chock full of utensils, equipment, pots, pans, cheesecloth, wine accesories and service ware for hours on end... i'm sure the salespeople love me. I literally could spend hours here. I wish I just had all the money and a bigger kitchen because there really isn't anything here that I can't justify spending money on! All locations are usually a little cramped but there's also everything you can think of as well as a few more things you didn't even think of to make life easier in the kitchen. I've only bought a few items from them thus far and they've held up pretty well. I love their selection on knives and they sharpen them on site for $5 a blade which is a great deal. Overall I love this place for all that it is. Not the cheapest but from from the most expensive. You can always find strange things to make life easier. If I could stock my entire kitchen with Sur La Table cookware, I would do it in a heartbeat. The last time I went in, I was looking for a springform pan (mmm, cheesecake!). Only having experience with simple cake pans up until that point, I had a few questions. The first salesperson I ran across took me straight to the section of the store and briefly pointed out/explained some options. Sensing my need to hmm and haww and look around, he then left me to my devices. When I finally picked a pan and went up to the register, the girl there explained since it was an anodized pan, it conveys heat very effectively and I should adjust my recipes 25° down. Thank goodness she told me this, as my desserts have been coming out perfectly! Overall, this store is a tad crowded, but a fantastic way to waste a rainy afternoon. I love Sur La Table. I was introduced to the store many years ago in my early 20's when I did not know how to cook. This store was so overwhelming to me since I didn't even know what half the products were or why you would want one. But I could tell that it would be 'the' store I would go to if I wanted to find that hard to find item or that item that would impress a fellow chef. Now that I 'am' a cook, this is my favorite store to find new tools to help make my prep time that much shorter or tools that I didn't know I wanted. My husband scoffed at me when I brought home a strawberry huller but as soon as he used it, he did the entire pound container. I love how some of the items are seasonal and used on fruit and others can be used year round. It's my first stop when I need something for the kitchen and I love how the staff is always helpful and never pushy. They also offer cooking classes which is great if you want to learn something new or do a date night. read more

This is a review for the Pike Place Market location. Not the chain. Cute, crowded, busy, clean, cramped, well stocked. It is floor to ceiling kitchen stuff. It fits right in with the Market style of shop, you expect to find Item A and bump into Item Q. The staff has always been polite and helpful. High end kitchen stuff is (in my opinion) overpriced. But no more overpriced here than anyplace else. So, if I had $100 to spend on a crepe pan, I'd be likely to buy it here. On occasion I have seen good discounts. Note! If you are in a wheelchair or such: This is on the side of a steep hill, it has stairs inside, and (even when not crazy crowded) it is tight inside. My suggestion: Try the chain's other locations, this one would require mountain climbing levels of work. read more

Beautiful day to be able to stumble across this shop while in Seattle. Very much like a Ming Wo, but there was a lady nice enough to demo out their expresso machine, but this is the first place where I have seen 4-6 expresso machines, 4 blenders (including a Vitamix), 3-5 mixers all in one shop! Yesterday, I tried to use (on line) a Sur la Table gift card I received last year. When I went to check out, the gift card code said it was invalid. After trying a number of times, I gave up. I was tempted to just toss the card when I noticed a telephone number for inquiries on the back. Because of my almost always horrendous experiences with customer service "telephone trees" I was reluctant. I decided to call. My call was immediately picked up by Christopher in Customer Service. He was polite, friendly, PATIENT and dealt with my dilemma in an efficient, effective and more than satisfactory manner. My purchase, which I am delighted with, is on the way. Chris is to be applauded for his EXCELLENT service and Sur La Table is to be applauded for being-- what I think must be-- one of the last remaining businesses on planet earth to provide REAL customer service. As someone who is incredibly enthusiastic about the kitchen and all things culinary, this place is like a frickin' candy store. A candy store that has all the fixings, and employees who complete the experience. I went in today with a couple friends and poked around a little bit. And we just started chit chatting with the guy and gal working there this morning. They were incredibly helpful, and they were very sweet and very enthusiastic. None of this, "Got what you want? Then GTFO." No, none of that. We just sat and talked, and looked, talked some more. It was a wonderful time. And of course the gadgets were cool too. If you want cool stuff for your kitchen, come here. Really, do it. Your kitchen will love you, and you will love your kitchen. And then everything will be right in this world. It's going to be a little pricier than something you'd get at Target, but at the same time, it's better to think about it as making a long-term investment into something you want to keep around your kitchen. And I think it's totally worth it. Stop in and look around. Maybe it will inspire you to do so something amazing. read more

A great place to find all of your kitchen/cooking needs. You can even have a great cup of coffee, latte, espresso or cappuccino if you stop by the espresso maker, that is if a staff person is there to make it for you. My experience was actually at the Sur La Table in Bellevue, but my experience was awesome because the employee I worked with in Bellevue was actually someone from the Pine St. Store, so I am posting my positive comments at the location she works at. I popped into Sur La Table to grab a simple pan, and wasn't looking to buy a bunch of items. I was approached by a sales lady (sorry I didn't take down her name) who was incredibly help and more importantly passionate about cooking and the products they sold. She knew the products inside out, and 20 minutes later I exited with a stack of new pans, a work and other accessories. Although this was a bit of a impulse purchase, me and my wife have absolutely loved EVERY piece I bought that day from Sur La Table. I was also impressed at the sales person's integrity. We were at the counter, and she was ringing me up. She normally works at the Pine street store, but was a visiting worked at the Bravern store. As she is ringing me up, she asks another employee, "Hey, since I have no quota today, I am just going to give you the sale". How nice! She worked SO hard, was so awesome, and then gives the credit of her hard work to another store employee who was just hanging around. Unfortunately, I returned to the Bellevue store a couple weeks later and had a terrible experience. No worries, if I need anything, I will drive across the bridge, to the Pine St. Store and seek out this sales person who really provided a great experience. thanks. I'm only taking away a star because it's expensive and I'm sorry for myself not to be able to buy all the cool stuff they have there. that said, it's always a really indulgent experience to wander through the aisles and pick out some cheap(er) kitchen trinket to delight myself with for awhile. Last time I was delighted to find the exact multi-colored metal cups that The Pink Door (highly touristed and sorta expensive but very picturesque restaurant down the block) had served me and my friends with. I promptly bought six. Someday, perhaps I will drop some dough on a great knife set or the like, but til then I'm just a kid in the proverbial candy shop. read more

Prices are little expensive but the location is very convenient for me. This kitchen store is worth the fight to find parking! We went in on a whim after eating lunch in pikes, we had been wanting a good knife that was high quality and the staff member, Darlene was absolutely incredible. She let us test out the different knives on apples and lended her extended wealth of knowledge to us as well. She wasn't pushy on just the expensive knives and helped us find the exact right ones. We also found beautiful wine glasses that were not too expensive but feel and look like great quality items. We could've easily spent hours in this store. read more

Cook's paradise! Everything you could possibly want and I'm happy with everything I've purchased here including my paring knife, ramekins and pot and pan set. Prices are a little higher but there's always sales and I'm very happy with the quality of my purchases. The thing that sets Sur La Table apart is the customer service. They also have an excellent return policy here as long as you have the receipt. I called the day after I bought a ramekin to report it was damaged and they said bring it back, no questions asked I seriously had a sales associate search boxes and climb up and down ladders all over the store to find a $3 ramekin for me. When she didn't find it, she returned my damaged one for store credit. They also happily made me coffee on a $1k coffee maker I couldn't possibly afford but it's a good strategy because I buy other, less than $1k products from them! No cook's trip to Pike Place is complete without Sur La Table! read more

The products are at Sur la Table are good. The staff and customer service not so. I bought a Christmas gift for a co worker online. I never received an email letting me know it had been shipped. I sent an email asking about this. Never got a reply. Called and found out it will get here too late for me to give it to my co worker, contrary to what they said when I bought it online. Went to the store at the market to find it. The guy working there was ATROCIOUS! Told me they didn't have it. They did. Flipped me massive attitude when I saw him later and told him they did have it. Really? Attitude? There are two rules in retail: know your product and be nice to your customers. If you cannot do either of these, why in the name of the good green earth are you working retail? And don't you think your forties (fifties?) is too old for eye rolling? What I think is I have shopped my last at Sur la Table. Online and offline. read more

This store I first found back in the 90's, and it's one of my favorite places to visit. I love the selection of cool cooking toys. I could sit and dream for hours about what I might whip up with the beautiful pans, or chop with the beautiful knives. It is pricy, but they have great quality cookware. read more

I sure enjoy shopping at this place....Pembroke Pines, Plano, Washington....always said, you have a problem? No problem! Except for the store by the Market in Washington. Met with the salesman and Ross the manager. They would not exchange the two cooking trays I brought in. They are supposed to be non-stick but we're not. They suggested I purchase things to put on top of the trays to address the issue...what a shame. Time to shop somewhere else. read more

I like this store, and typically, the people who work here are super helpful and friendly, but I feel compelled to write this review based on one bad customer experience I had. I was just buying a utensil I needed, and I got in line, which was kind of long. The cashier was busy chit-chatting with a customer, which I did not appreciate; he was the only cashier. Finally, when it was my turn to pay, he smiled at me awkwardly and didn't say a word to me as he scanned my item. He didn't even tell me the total. I handed him my credit card, and he then asked for my ID. He took a look at it and started laughing for some reason. I asked him, "What's so funny?" He didn't say a thing. I felt really offended. And it was just a really awkward experience. I would probably shop here again, but hopefully that guy learns some manners. read more

If you love to cook, you will be like a kid in a candy store. This a charming store with helpful staff. It can get a little crowded, and is certainly a budget breaker if you aren't careful. But it is where you have to go in Seattle to find cherry pitters, teflon sandbakkel tins, rolling pin covers, darling dish towels and the best selection of pepper grinders. Parking is a pain, but the specialty stock makes it worth the trip. read more

One star due to their customer service department. I ordered an online gift card to be mailed as a birthday gift and used here in Seattle. During the ordering, they switched the recipient email from the one I designated (its question number two on their form) to my Paypal account.... and never mentioned they switched it. Birthday came and went, no email. I looked like an idiot thanks to them... AND when I told Customer Service they messed up, they said it was a known issue with PayPal. I then asked to have them resend it, albeit late, and they wouldnt even do that. They said "If you have access to the email that we sent this gift card to, you can simply forward it to the recipient." Ridiculously bad customer experience, and they couldnt have cared less about improving it. I WILL NOT SHOP THERE AGAIN. read more
