So we've all been to donut places and they're all the same, right? WRONG, I was skeptical that this little strip mall shop next to the Grocery Outlet was worth the trip but I got schooled. First of all the proprietress is amazing friendly and helpful. The selection of donuts is wide and they are bursting with freshness and homemade flavor. Just to give a quick example of the over the top commitment to quality at Sunrise, I ordered a custard filled donut so she pulls a chocolate covered rectangle from the case and proceeds to fill it with delicious custard right then and there. No sitting around getting soggy. She also threw in some donut holes and a blueberry donut that was still warm. If you can spare a few calories, this is a great stop. Bring a dozen to work to lock in that "employee of the year" badge you've been coveting. read more

Excellent, friendly service and the best buttermilk bars in Petaluma. Recently, they haven't made buttermilk bars on certain days (perhaps they don't sell well?) and prices have gone up about 50 cents across the board in a year. For reference, this time last year, a buttermilk bar was $2.25. Today it's $2.75, a increase of 22%. I realize the cost of doing business has increased but by all measures, it's substantially less than 22%. read more

My donut addiction continues, this shop had such great reviews on yelp and I love going to small donut shops. I was only planning to pickup a few but ended up with a huge box of donuts. I got 2 glazed, a chocolate bar with cream, an apple fritter, a cinnamon roll, and 2 cruellers ( one chocolate and one regular). The lady working here is so so nice, she complimented me on my sriracha t shirt. She also gave me a few donut holes, and a blueberry donut on the house. They don't have the largest selection here, but the donuts are so fresh, the french crueller was still warm and the glaze was still melty when I popped it in my mouth. The apple fritter was also still warm, and thick and chunky. Great donut place to come if you are in the area, the hospitality, service, and donuts are fantastic. read more

Freshly HOT made doughnuts with a great selection! I didn't have an opportunity to place an order but they definitely were able to accommodate 10 dz doughnuts when I called at 6:00 am for a company event! I love this establishment they are friendly and helped us load our vehicle because our order was so big.. definitely my go to spot when I'm in the area! read more

Best donuts in town thus far. Service within the small shop was quick, including the picking of donuts, making sure you get what you want, updating you as you go as to what number you're in, and cashing out. The line behind me was 3-4 people by the time I left. $12.00 for a dozen of the mixed donuts was a great price. The sprinkled cake donuts came in a variety of colors which enticed my kiddo. All different types of other donuts including the cruller (my favorite)/ chocolate, sugar and glazed original/ maple and chocolate bars/ apple fritter and some others were available. Beyond the donut types, their availability and the service, the staff was nice and opening and the store seemed overall welcoming. We spotted this place after leaving sushi in the same shopping complex, and popped in on our way out of town, a little farewell to Petaluma after a great vacay. Boy, its safe to say it would take a lot to make me get emotional about donuts, but Sunrise Donuts made it happen! This babies are the freshest, most delectable little pillows of goodness we've ever tasted! Each variety we chose was the best it could have been, from the chocolate croissant to crullers, to the kids' chocolate bars. The owner was friendly as could be, and the pride and love he takes in creating those masterpieces comes thru! Bonus: 2 little donut holes magically appeared in the bag too, who even does that?!?! This! This is the place. I eat a lot of donuts. Too many donuts, some might say and this tiny, local, unassuming, in-a-strip-mall shop is my fave. The owners and staff here are wonderful people that throughout the latest set of fires, continue to serve and support the community with their delectable treats. They're local and small shop that is entrenched in the community. I'm a big advocate of supporting local and encourage folks to come and pick up a treat. I stumbled upon this store, just looking to quickly pick up a dozen donuts. The woman there was super friendly. All the donuts looked fresh and delicious. I asked just for a variety of a dozen donuts from her and she gave a good mix. I asked her to throw in a apple fritter also, and she ended up throwing in a few donut holes too. I had a camping trip I would be arriving late to. I knew I could bring doughnuts for the next morning for everyone. I wanted fresh delicious doughnuts. During the hours the shop was open I was in a class and could not get to the shop before it closed. I used the Door Dash app and ordered 1 dozen doughnuts assorted, and an order of doughnut holes. I had them delivered and there was someone at home to bring them in. I got into the doughnuts that night after finding them at my home after class. I ate a delicious chocolate iced long doughnut fresh and delicious. I popped a couple of perfect doughnut holes and then packed them for our quick camping trip. This morning I was able to surprise my friends with doughnuts!! The box assortment was out of this world and the presentation was fantastic! An A++! Everyone was incredibly excited about a sweet, and tasty morning treats... This was an excellent order and it all worked out great!! You have gained many more customers from them enjoying these yummy delights this morning. We will be back when doughnuts are needed and will let friends know how great these were. read more

I literally had the pleasure of patronizing this place on it's opening day in 1999, many many eons ago when I worked at a long-gone video game shop that used to be next door. The donuts then were fantastic, and I'm happy to report they still are. While I no longer live in Petaluma, I travel through the area often and stop by here for some breakfast when I can. The folks working at the shop still couldn't be nicer. COVID recently took down a similar donut shop near where I live now, so please - give these folks your business. They're awesome. Plus, like I said, fantastic donuts. It's a win-win. read more

Don't have much to say but i've been eating donuts here since i was born. I think that should speak for itself. Two things that go hand in Hand: Running and Doughnuts. Fact. It was for that reason I needed up stopping in Sunrise to grab a quick Carb fix. I was Running from San Francisco to Calistoga with some of my Running Club and on a quick break in the area and craving Doughnuts as I do on long distance Run's. Yelp to the rescue! A quick search showed this place jut a few hundred feet from where we were and still 40 minutes from closing. Although not at closing time when I arrived the owners were packing up and getting ready to go home as they had practically ran out of all but about a dozen items, they informed me they had been really busy that day and sold out early. I guess having close to 2,000 hungry runners come through town would have that effect. That being said there was still 2 items that caught my eye (Blueberry Cake and Apple Fritter) so the polite Lady sold them to me plus threw in 2 more for free! A Chocolate Cake and a Chocolate Old Fashioned which one of my fellow Runners appreciated greatly. As for the Doughnuts (Donuts... whatever) they were really good. Fresh, not greasy and with prominent flavors. Even when I waited some 12 hours to eat the Apple Fritter (yes, at 4am in between Run's) it was still very fresh and moist with lot's of juicy Apple pieces. A great stopping place I will definitely keep in mind for future trips. Thank you Sunrise! read more

What's the point of $5 off if I still have to pay an additional $4 for a large cup of hot milk and a dash of espresso in the guise of a latte? Pink Owl is not quality enough for the prices. Petaluma has great quality coffee and Espresso in abundance. It sucks because it's a cute shop that I would enjoy if it wasn't for that slight little hiccup. On that note, I don't know a single Petaluma local that raves about Pink Owl or religiously visits them or even talks about them. I can say they do rave about other coffee shops though. Red Bird makes all their breads and they are really great quality. If you ever come in for lunchtime then their artisan pizza is the main attraction. They make some really wonderful, unique pizzas that you can get a slice or two and enjoy! Red Bird also offers good coffee here (Retrograde!) and other hot drinks. Plus, they do cakes and desserts to order. We have ordered their Yule Log for several Christmas's in the past, and we order cakes here for birthdays. The service here is always friendly and helpful, and we love sitting at their long, wooden tables when there is time to eat at the cafe. I like their dining area, which feels very communal and fun. Sophie makes this place somewhere we remember just by her genuine warmth and kindness- she is a gem. The doughnuts are good too, and they are better than average even before factoring in her excellence. Location is easy to get to in the southwest side of Petaluma, and the business has lots of free parking in their shared parking lot. Prices for the doughnuts are on par with other shops in the county, but the quality is higher than most, and definitely better overall experience than everyone else. The store itself has seen better days, with muted, sun-bleached wall art, and molded seating, but everyone I've seen just orders and runs back out to their cars or to walk back to their places. I definitely want to continue giving this location business because they embody the experience I'd love to see more of in terms of personal care. Sophie remembers almost everyone and greets most people we've seen by name. She also sneaks in extra doughnuts with a wink and is just an overall delightful person. We will definitely be back for the fresh and fluffy fritters, the perfectly crispy old fashioned buttermilk doughnuts, and especially for wonderful Sophie.
