So we've all been to donut places and they're all the same, right? WRONG, I was skeptical that this little strip mall shop next to the Grocery Outlet was worth the trip but I got schooled. First of all the proprietress is amazing friendly and helpful. The selection of donuts is wide and they are bursting with freshness and homemade flavor. Just to give a quick example of the over the top commitment to quality at Sunrise, I ordered a custard filled donut so she pulls a chocolate covered rectangle from the case and proceeds to fill it with delicious custard right then and there. No sitting around getting soggy. She also threw in some donut holes and a blueberry donut that was still warm. If you can spare a few calories, this is a great stop. Excellent, friendly service and the best buttermilk bars in Petaluma. Recently, they haven't made buttermilk bars on certain days (perhaps they don't sell well?) and prices have gone up about 50 cents across the board in a year. For reference, this time last year, a buttermilk bar was $2.25. Today it's $2.75, a increase of 22%. I realize the cost of doing business has increased but by all measures, it's substantially less than 22%. read more

My donut addiction continues, this shop had such great reviews on yelp and I love going to small donut shops. I was only planning to pickup a few but ended up with a huge box of donuts. I got 2 glazed, a chocolate bar with cream, an apple fritter, a cinnamon roll, and 2 cruellers ( one chocolate and one regular). The lady working here is so so nice, she complimented me on my sriracha t shirt. She also gave me a few donut holes, and a blueberry donut on the house. They don't have the largest selection here, but the donuts are so fresh, the french crueller was still warm and the glaze was still melty when I popped it in my mouth. We spotted this place after leaving sushi in the same shopping complex, and popped in on our way out of town, a little farewell to Petaluma after a great vacay. Boy, its safe to say it would take a lot to make me get emotional about donuts, but Sunrise Donuts made it happen! This babies are the freshest, most delectable little pillows of goodness we've ever tasted! Each variety we chose was the best it could have been, from the chocolate croissant to crullers, to the kids' chocolate bars. I had a camping trip I would be arriving late to. I knew I could bring doughnuts for the next morning for everyone. I wanted fresh delicious doughnuts. During the hours the shop was open I was in a class and could not get to the shop before it closed.  I used the Door Dash app and ordered 1 dozen doughnuts assorted, and an order of doughnut holes.  I had them delivered and there was someone at home to bring them in.  I got into the doughnuts that night after finding them at my home after class. I ate a delicious chocolate iced long doughnut fresh and delicious. I popped a couple of perfect doughnut holes and then packed them for our quick camping trip.  This morning I was able to surprise my friends with doughnuts!! The box assortment was out of this world and the presentation was fantastic! An A++!  Everyone was  incredibly excited about a sweet, and tasty morning treats...  This was an excellent order and it all worked out great!!  You have gained many more customers from them enjoying these yummy delights this morning. I literally had the pleasure of patronizing this place on it's opening day in 1999, many many eons ago when I worked at a long-gone video game shop that used to be next door. The donuts then were fantastic, and I'm happy to report they still are. While I no longer live in Petaluma, I travel through the area often and stop by here for some breakfast when I can. The folks working at the shop still couldn't be nicer. COVID recently took down a similar donut shop near where I live now, so please - give these folks your business. They're awesome. Two things that go hand in Hand: Running and Doughnuts. Fact. It was for that reason I needed up stopping in Sunrise to grab a quick Carb fix. I was Running from San Francisco to Calistoga with some of my Running Club and on a quick break in the area and craving Doughnuts as I do on long distance Run's. Yelp to the rescue! A quick search showed this place jut a few hundred feet from where we were and still 40 minutes from closing. Although not at closing time when I arrived the owners were packing up and getting ready to go home as they had practically ran out of all but about a dozen items, they informed me they had been really busy that day and sold out early. I guess having close to 2,000 hungry runners come through town would have that effect. That being said there was still 2 items that caught my eye (Blueberry Cake and Apple Fritter) so the polite Lady sold them to me plus threw in 2 more for free! A Chocolate Cake and a Chocolate Old Fashioned which one of my fellow Runners appreciated greatly. As for the Doughnuts (Donuts... whatever) they were really good. Fresh, not greasy and with prominent flavors. Even when I waited some 12 hours to eat the Apple Fritter (yes, at 4am in between Run's) it was still very fresh and moist with lot's of juicy Apple pieces.
