This was the finest bagel I've ever had in my life. I used to eat bagels everyday when I was in college at UC Berkeley but this is better than Noah's bagels. The bagel is airy yet chewy and crunchy. They give you a lot of cream cheese and even cut your bagel in half. The bagel comes in a little paper container and the staff is super friendly. The bagel is the same price as the smear. Their food is good but inconsistent. I often order the avocado toast both in person and delivery from Food Taxi, and sometimes there is a good amount of avocado and other times it's very little. I also have had just weird experiences with them...? I ordered a specialty drink listed on Food Taxi, but they no longer had it in season. Instead they just gave me a honey maple latte... Food Taxi was able to refund me the order but I'm not sure why they didn't just cancel the order or just let me know it wasn't available so I could order an alternative... I also once ordered my avocado toast with hummus spread and I'm not sure if they forgot to do it, and they just dumped the hummus on top. This was a delivery order so I couldn't get it corrected. This place definitely has some interesting and innovative coffee and spreads! I tried the cardamom and orange syrup in my latte, as well as a half dozen bagels with roasted garlic and zaatar spread. The coffee was delicious! The syrup was not too sweet and you could really taste the cardamom, which I loved. The spread was good too and I was most impressed with their creativity on flavors. Unfortunately, the bagels didn't hit their mark with me. I may have come too late in the day, but the bagels were not fresh or doughy or bouncy. What a sweet bagel shop/cafe! Two of us met for a working lunch. She got the avocado toast. I got the frittata sando on toasted marble rye bagel (one of my fave bagel flavors!). We each got a latte. Order and pay at the counter and then if you're dining in, they'll bring the food to your table. Prices are reasonable and our treats were ready quickly. Both sandwiches were hearty, and tasty! And our hot drinks came in the cutest pink ceramic mugs with matching saucers. They use Ritual coffee, and sell the beans too. Love! I stopped in for a bagel meal, and as always, the bagels were excellent--fresh and delicious. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. I asked for my coffee in a proper cup, but was told they had run out and could only offer a paper cup. It wasn't even rush hour, it was Wednesday at 11am and the place was empty! That's not the kind of experience I expect, especially when dining in. It really took away from an otherwise great visit. I chose the avocado toast ($12) and added an egg ($3) and bacon ($3) and a white chocolate mocha ($7.45) w oat milk ($1) My kid chose the heirloom tomato toast ($13) and OJ ($8) The food was great, the prices were a bit high, so much so I had to take away 2 stars. I had originally searched for somewhere less expensive and this place popped up with one $ sign so I was like perfect! I then stood next to the counter for 10 minutes (I was the only one in there waiting, they were not busy) before anyone behind the counter even looked at me or made eye contact. The two baristas in the front never so much as looked me and I watched them make coffee for themselves during this time. Someone from the back finally came out, noticed me, and asked what I was waiting for. Turns out my order had been forgotten but he let me know they were starting it now. 15 minutes after arriving after the projected pick up time it finally came out. I totally understand things happen and am not upset that the order was forgotten at all- but the attitude of the baristas behind the counter has me leaving there feeling terrible. The bagels are great but the service is terrible. No one smiles to strangers or greets them in a friendly manner. It's the second time now, the first I let it pass because they were very busy. This second time the girl with the curly red hair didn't have a line but was just rude. I resent that we are in a time where we are prompted to tip before we get the actual service and there is a sense of entitlement and I do find myself wanting to tip and actually tipping when people don't deserve it. The world is already tough as it is. If you think your life is tough at the local organic bagel shop, get a grip, learn to smile and be basic polite or else get out of a service based industry. I have now had two experiences at bagel mill that lead me to believe I should never go back. While I like their coffee their service is absolutely deplorable. They made my coffee wrong and when I asked them to remake it the rude girl from behind the bar didn't offer to remake it or rectify her mistake she simply said "well it was rung up that way" as she rolled her eyes. You cannot charge high prices and have the service always horrible.
