Someplace I've gone to quite a few times. A Petaluma sandwich shop, and someplace a little more than that. Most Petalumian's know it ( petalumians . . A civilization of its own) . . Lucchesi's Delicatessen. It's in the area of Petaluma's Safeway. . The gym. . The bank . , and some delicious ice cream. . I used to call in, but it does get busy during lunch time so probably better to walk in. It does get busy, but it'll go by. Cold cuts, potato salad, and small salads and things, lots of chip and beverage selections ( no alcohol, but they got great selection of drinks ). 1/3 deli shop and 2/3rd's sandwiches Cosy and comfortable. Here's what you gotta do: Walk in . Get greeted and get your sandwich order in with the guide of your server. Get a ticket. Browse and pick out what you'd like on the side. Number is called and pay for everything. Then get your sandwich and get whatever you picked out. Straight forward . I was too into their buffalo hot chicken special for the longest time. I recommend it. I have had their Italian too, which is good. I think I'll hold off the horseradish next time when I got it. Im also a Dutch Crunch kind of guy when I buy a sandwich (the bread you love to choose in your sandwich is a sacred thing to share amongst sandwich lovers). I go get a sandwich at least 3x a month if not more. The quality is great, the customer service is amazing and the sandwiches are so so good! Always fresh, always right. When I go on a hike, I go get a sandwich the night before my hike and the freshness of the sandwich is the same by the time I eat it. I love places who keep their consistency and you never wonder if the food is going to the as good as the last time. A Petaluma local favorite, Lucchesi's has been around for years selling sandwiches, sides, chips, drinks, and bagel dogs. I'm one to try to support the independent eateries like this one rather than one of the big chains like Subway and Jersey Mike's. Good sandwiches overall, my $15 Roast Beef and cheese with peppers was hot, spicy, and tasty. It could've had a little bit more of that juicy, tender, succulent beef...but the soft sourdough baguette was fresh and warm. Seemed a pricy for what I got, but still satisfying. My local Petaluma friends love this place, I just like it. No inside seating, just a few tables outside. Folks were friendly enough. read more

I'm not sure why this deli has over four stars. Today I ordered an Italian sandwich without mustard and horseradish. The sandwich was made with mustard. The sandwich was $13.99 and barely had any meat, cheese and lettuce. It was all bread. The tomatoes were old and they shouldn't be using week old produce on sandwiches. I was planning to eat my sandwich in the car and asked for extra napkins. (Two were provided with my sandwich.). The guy behind the register said I can only give you one more napkin. Really? Skimpy on napkins just like the sandwich. The sandwich had no flavor and wasn't good. This was my first and will be my last time to eat at this deli. They get the toasted Ryebread just right, the Meat is excellent, and the sauerkraut and sauce are a wonderful amount and so good. The people working here are super nice and efficient. I came in here just before lunch. The place was mostly empty. The lady taking the order seemed rushed even though there was no one else in line. It seemed like a slightly unkept place. It was clean but not well organized. Its ambiance felt cluttered. I asked if they made half sandwiches. They said no. That's understandable though it would be nice if they accommodated. Then I asked if they had customer bathrooms (you'd think people would want to wash their hands before eating). They said there were no bathrooms but pointed me to a dirty nasty hand sanitizer dispenser in the corner. I thanked them and left. It left me wondering what else I could try that was quick, had some veggie options and has good feedback. As I went to expand my food horizons in Petaluma for a quick lunch, I figured you can't go wrong with deli. Turns out Lucchesi's is quite a gem in the area that seems to be very popular with locals. Since it's not in the downtown more touristy area, I'm sure out of towners may overlook it. Don't...make it a point to stop and try one of their well made deli sandwiches. I got a veggie on Dutch crunch which had the usual array of fresh veggies but wasn't stacked so high it fell apart. Line was long but moved fast. I ordered salami and cheese sandwich on a baguette which I was going to share with my husband. I asked how many pieces of cheese they put on a sandwich (which by the way you pay extra for). He replied two. I asked for one slice to be Swiss on one side of sandwich and the other to be cheddar for the other side of sandwich. I was the only one there at that time and was told NO we don't do that! I told them I was not asking for extra cheese, just the two that come with the pay extra price. Still said NO! We got 2 of their special sandwiches: Reuben and soppressata (type of salami). You can select a bread choice. Sandwiches were pretty good. They also have various brands of chips available included ones not found at the regular grocery store. They also have desserts and some pasta salads under the glass counter. My favorite deli almost every week now. I love the peppered turkey sandwich with pepper jack cheese & everything thing that comes on it, even the soft sourdough bread. While driving through Petaluma, we stopped by Lucchesi's and what a pleasant surprise it was. The interior was filled with easter decor. There was a long line but their service was quick and easy. The food was vegetarian friendly. We ordered vegetarian sandwich on a dutch crust bread and a baguette bread. Dutch crust bread was the winner, in my opinion. Both the breads tasted very fresh. The veggies were heavily stuffed inside the breads. The prices were actually fair for the portions that they serve. All in all, we loved the deli. Would definitely stop by for a quick lunch the next time we are in town. read more

Latest try. Again I feel $15 is way too much to charge for an average size sandwich. This time I got the Mexican chipotle chicken with avocado and was unimpressed. The chicken was basically ground up like it went through a blender or something. It was basically just mush. Then they smeared mushed avocado on it. I upgraded my rating from 4 to 5 stars based on several things. The people here are always friendly and helpful. All staff were wearing masks (not sure if that's staff policy.) They have a great selection of breads (especially the hard sourdough roll!). They have long hours (8 am - 5 or 6 pm everyday except Monday). I think the sign on the door says 6 pm but Yelp says 5 pm. Probably one of my biggest pet peeves at a restaurant is when they ask you for a tip before you've experienced the food and service. No issue here. They run your card and hand it back to you. No signing. No pressure sitting in front of the credit card screen while they wait for you to sign and select a tip. This is a well run business and I will be back again (and again). read more

Tucked away next to Panda, the doors were wide open, strategically placed boxes to identify where the max 3 people should be- ordering, to the left for waiting and payment/pick up. I've never been in before but knew what I wanted to take home. The person that took my order helped identify what sandwich would fit my turkey/bacon craving. The bread type examples are conveniently located in the cooler where you stand to order. The turkey and ham had a small up-charge for extra meat but tasted great in the end. The standard toppings were reviewed and checked off the small order form. The process was quick, by my arrival we had a total of 4 people in the queue, but the first person left just has the woman in front of me ordered, making space for me to go in. Overall, the two sandwiches were one of the best we've had in Petaluma. The balance of horseradish, mayo and mustard weren't overpowering or escaping the sandwich. There was ingredient slippage during consumption but that happens. The potato salad had a nice balance of potatoes, celery and dressing. Absolutely love this place! Have stopped here on a few occasions now and the staff is always super friendly and helpful! They offer a variety of choices for sandwiches, salads and fruits, as well as decadent desserts and drinks. Everything is conveniently packaged if you want to get items for a picnic. During my recent visit, I got a turkey baguette sandwich with fresh veggies, a container of strawberries, and one of their yummy chocolate chip cookies. Everything was so fresh and put together so nicely. During my latest visit, their internet was down in the building, and the staff was extremely polite to let us know before we ordered that they could only accept cash for the day so that we would not be inconvenience. The best sandwiches and deli you'll find in the area. Lucchesi's endless sandwich menu, soups, salads, and desserts will satisfy any person that walks through their door. We ordered the Italian on Dutch crunch and the turkey, bacon, and avocado. Both were stuffed full of meat and toppings in a perfectly crunchy bread. There were so many other things on the menu that we wanted to try, so we'll definitely be back. The staff was friendly and made the sandwiches quickly. Parking is very easy since they are located in a shopping mall. I highly recommend you check them and grab a sandwich to eat on a nearby hike! read more

My wife has never loved Lucchesi's, so we went years ago and I enjoyed it. But I started going back a few months ago and things were a little different slightly off even. Look at my previous entries... I love Italian deli sandwiches, the salt the fat the fresh tomatoes, it's perfect balance. The first sandwich I had since going back was good, it hit all the notes. So I went back, Friday is my splurge day, I called and ordered ahead so it would be ready when I got there. When I came to pick the sandwich up, they had given mine away accidentally to someone else. Okay, I get it mistakes happen. The name was nowhere near mine and they gave some one who ordered a vegi sandwich my Italian sun with 3 different meats, that would be a rude awakening for him. They remade my sandwich, I waited for 10 mins, which is the whole reason I called ahead. There was little apology and no discount or help from who I can only assume was an owner. First bite, it was okay but there was a bit of funk maybe. Second bite, yeah something just isn't right. I took the sandwich apart and yeah... the salami was dark brown and rancid. So I will not be returning. I have heard through the grapevine that there are new owners, but clearly the old owners took a since it's care and pride that the new owners do not appear to. read more

Delicious!! Been meaning to swing by Lucchesi's for quite sometime, but finally got around to it after years. In my opinion, delis are either terrible or great in our area, and obviously Lucchesi's falls in the latter of the category. First and foremost, the staff are unbelievably friendly and willing to help with any decisions or alter/customize your order. On top of that, the amount of food you get for the price is great! Hard to beat an affordable sandwich that has you absolutely filled by the end of it. Fast forward to the order, turkey with cranberry on a soft roll and heated up. I still can taste the perfect sandwich to this day and oddly craving it quite early in the morning right now. When it comes to seating, its limited inside, but they have a decent sized patio if outside weather permits. When it comes to parking, hard not to find any due to this deli being in a strip mall with ample parking. Must make a stop again soon! read more

Kinda sad to see the direction Lucchesi Deli has taken. I used to absolutely love this place growing up it was second so none. Now is arguably the most expensive deli in town and we have a ton of options for deli's here. It's very easy to just pick a different one. If youre like me and like 2 meats (Turkey and Salami) it's a 4$ up charge making it what they call a "double" putting your sandwich well over the 20$ mark. This is actually overkill on meat but they won't do half and half. This could have something to do with the fact the place was pretty much empty at lunch time on a Sunday. Bummer but oh well I guess. This sandwich doesn't make it to the top of my list for Italian sandwiches, but hit the spot. For $8, the Italian sandwich had a moderate amount of meat with all other ingredients (tomatoes, pickles, mustard, mayo, horseradish). I didn't see/taste much variety in the meat in the sandwich, nor did the meat fill the sandwich to the edges.
