This place is really good and a solid option for lunch! Expect to pay a bit more as it is pricey but you do get great quality. I have tried the sandwiches which are unique and delicious. My new go to when I want something healthy is the beet salad. It's HUGE and could be shared between two people or last 2 meals. The staff is also friendly too.
Stopping in for lunch on our way up the coast and it definitely hit the spot. The little shop is so cute, simple, and has plenty of seating. The guy working (maybe the owner) was so friendly and very helpful when it came to making a decision. They have plenty of vegetarian options. My sandwich was very good. Very fresh ingredients, but a little too much aioli and I wish they had tomato. I loved the jalapeno cheese bread offering. Next time I would also add pickles.

Just to preface, I'm at my core not a sandwich person. It takes a lot to wow me about sandwiches because I feel like the bar overall is so incredibly low. Think subway, togos, etc- just mass shredded iceberg, tomatoes that taste like water, and tuna that doesn't even have fish in it. That said, the hype about the local is so oversized, it's surprising. I tried their items when they were located at the active gym, and i thought they were ok, but even that felt like they were really expensive for a very small and just slightly above average sandwich. Once they moved to their new location, I was interested to hear all the write ups they were getting and thought "wow maybe they mixed something up and they're doing something different - let's give them another try." We have now been twice to their new spot, and both times our sandwiches were very pricey and very small, which would be ok if they were equally very delicious... but they were unfortunately not. I felt like for the price, the items were very unimpressive. The flavors were ok, the textures were ok, but the size for the price, not ok. Hubs got the pulled pork and I had the steak sando, both of which I make variations of at home, and the ratio of filling to overall sandwich was dismal. Check my photos, it looks like one of the sandwiches has literally a single slice of cheese. I'm constantly shocked they have sold out signs on the door, it makes me think they are trying to manufacture a demand for a product. I mean it did work on us, we went two additional times after we decided it wasn't worth it, just to make sure we didn't just catch them on an off day. As always, I'm happy to support local business and I'm happy to pay more for something really good and delicious, but this was not that...not the first time, or any times after that. Sad really.
Fun menu, killer flavor combinations. Quality of fresh, local food you can taste is worth the price. Only tried their sandwiches (on GF bread that's made locally). Due to sandwiches being made with decent meat portions (thank you!), the GF bread tends to be thinner and so it crumbles easily. Order to-go or grab a seat a one of their petite picnic benches inside. Very friendly welcomed when walking in + when you order, you can see them working efficiently in the back.

The sandwiches are pretty big so if you're not too hungry, I recommend sharing with someone.

Lots of vegan/vegetarian options, and some customization is possible. The only ding is the price - it's a hefty cost, but it really is incredible. I'll definitely go back. Service is incredible, though because they make the sandwich to order, it's not fast food.
Love the menu choices. It was hard to decide but I settled on the Russian River sandwich because I'm an eggplant lover. I added chicken and it was delicious! Quality ingredients and a very hearty and tasty sandwich (I managed to eat half and ate the other half for dinner). Can't wait to try the other options on the menu.
A friend and I were in the area and decided we needed sandwiches, after a morning shopping. We saw this place was highly rated, so we went for it! We ordered the Petaluma and the special of the day, which was a toasty beef rib meat with slaw sandwich. Much like a pulled pork sandwich. We shared half of each, and could not decided which one was better! They were both amazing in their own ways! Know we are curious about the rest of the menu! The bread was top notch and the meat was generous! The sandwiches were both seasoned perfectly in my opinion, the beef sandwich had a spicy kick, but in the best way. Not over bearing, wipe my brow, way, just packed with flavor! They serve all our favorite drinks and great potato chip options as well. We got a cute little picnic table in the back and the customer service was kind and quick. Clearly The Local, cares about their clientele! I for one, will be back. Keep up the good work!
I stopped here with my girlfriend during our drive up north. The customer service was great. The cashier was so polite. Plus the location was clean and gave a great vibe. They played great music and the menu has so many options. I ordered a custom turkey and cheese on Dutch crunch. It was AMAZING. The bread was the beast Dutch crunch I have ever had. The turkey and all ingredients were great. It was certainly a top 5 sandwiches I have had. I highly recommend this place and it will be on my list any time I am in this area. read more

The Local is hands-down one of my favorite spots in Petaluma! Whether I am ordering delivery to my office via Petaluma Food Taxi or visiting their physical location, the food is consistently fresh, healthy, and incredibly delicious. I went in February mainly because they were having a February special and collaboration with Ji's Kimchi. They offered three choices: The Kimchi Rice Bowl The Gina (a fantastic vegetarian option) The Ji Street )It was absolutely amazing)! I truly wish they would make these items a permanent part of the regular menu because they were that good. It's a combination of the good, fresh and premium ingredients they purchase and use and in this instance that also included Ji's Kimchi! Beyond their specials, their standard sandwiches, smoothies, and salads are always top-tier. I highly recommend checking them out if you want a great meal! read more

This is my new favorite sandwich shop. Fresh, high-quality, and thoughtfully made. I tried the Petaluma sandwich with fresh sourdough, turkey, cheddar, pickled onion, avocado, and arugula. It's a classic sandwich, but every ingredient felt elevated. The sourdough tasted freshly baked, the turkey portion was generous and clearly good quality, and everything came together in a way that felt carefully crafted for freshness and flavor. I especially liked the pickled onion, which added a nice vinegar bite, and the arugula, which gave it a peppery finish. Overall, it was simple, fresh, and really well done. Went in with high expectations but sadly it wasn't good. They took a long time to make our sandwiches 17 min and they are expensive $17 for a sandwich!!!! The sandwiches were not good we actually didn't finish them. Go to your normal sandwiches place if you have one that's what we should've done. read more

A must stop for us now in Petaluma! We are in town from Vegas traveling from the Oakland airport to visit family in Santa Rosa and needed something tasty along the drive. This did not disappoint! We had the Phoenix, pastrami, and cucumber salad. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was top tier. read more

Great little sandwich kiosk in the lobby of the had the Pataloma on gluten free bread. Dang great WARM sandwich. Carefully made, well wrapped. Friendly staff. Highly reccomed this sandwich shop. Right next to the Home2Suites. Quality sandwiches, pricier than a subway - but QUALITY!! Worth the extra cost read more

One of the most incredible sandwiches I've ever had. I love me some sandwiches and have some favorite delis in Sonoma County but my god.... The sandwich called "The Petaluma" hits in every way. Do yourself a favor and visit this gem! Fresh local sourdough, fresh greens, amazing aïoli, just all of... It's inside the gym, right to the left when you walk in, open to the public. I was grateful that we found shade right in front. The Local is inside the Health Club. Seating is fresh and peaceful even with the outdoor pool outside. The sandwiches and salads are all well balanced. It's a great choice for a low-mid budget but high culinary experience. We saw the great care they took to make our order. read more

This tasted great. The bread was perfectly toasted, and the dish was seasoned with a little salt prior to serving, which is a nice touch. My only complaint is the serving size. It needed more avocado and goat cheese. It just seemed a little sparse to me. read more
