Get here early before they run out of pastries!! Inside smells delicious. It's inviting and warm inside. There are a few tables to sit at. Aside from beautiful fresh artisan breads, they have a unique selection of baked goods such as pumpkin tea cakes, coffee filled morning buns, galettes, cranberry tarts, savory scones, vanilla crumb donuts, and vegan options. It is difficult to make a decision on what to get because everything looks delicious. It's a good thing the staff is patient with all their customers. I wanted to take a few home for the kids. I settled for a jam pocket, chocolate croissant, apple cinnamon scone, pistachio filled morning bun, and a sun-dried tomato, fennel, feta and spinach roll. The specialty coffee drinks also look amazing! I already had my coffee but I really wish I could've tried one of theirs. I think there was a marshmallow latte that looked intriguing! While I waited for my husband to pay, I tried one of the peanut butter cookie samples on top of the counter. Then we left. Guess what! After we had brunch with friends, we went back to Red Bird around 11:45 am because I really wanted a peanut butter cookie. Most things were sold out!!! Red Bird is our neighborhood bakery. We frequent this popular spot at least once a week. One thing to know about me is I am supposed to stay away from gluten whenever possible, so I try to find places with good gluten free pastries. Red Bird happens to have an excellent gluten free muffin, as well as a to-die-for gluten free brownie. This morning, I had the cranberry orange GF muffin and it was so good. The flavors felt very holiday and the muffin was the perfect texture. My wife loves their breakfast sandwiches, but she is not a huge fan of their English muffins so she gets them on sourdough bread. Red Bird makes all their breads and they are really great quality. If you ever come in for lunchtime then their artisan pizza is the main attraction. They make some really wonderful, unique pizzas that you can get a slice or two and enjoy! Red Bird also offers good coffee here (Retrograde!) and other hot drinks. Plus, they do cakes and desserts to order. We have ordered their Yule Log for several Christmas's in the past, and we order cakes here for birthdays. The service here is always friendly and helpful, and we love sitting at their long, wooden tables when there is time to eat at the cafe. I like their dining area, which feels very communal and fun. Red Bird bakery. A friendly local bakery. They have a good selection of pastry and breakfast options. I really enjoyed the apple gallete. It wasn't overly sweet and the crust was flavorful, flaky but sturdy enough. The apples were tasty, thinly sliced, caramelized and perfectly sliced. Also, have to say the apples had a great texture. Not mushy but not too crisp still, a great balance. My roasted pork sandwich was a little less impressive. Good flavor, but I thought the execution could have been better. It felt a little like I was eating pre-cut seasoned pork chunks that were just heat and serve. It would have been significantly better if they used a nice herb rubbed pork loin roast and carved some slices off of it. Would have been nicer for texture, and presentation. The bread was also a little over toasted. Scraped up my mouth pretty good and didn't really stay fluffy inside. I also got myself a drip coffee because caffeine. It tasted pretty average to me. It was a medium roast coffee, approachable and a crowd pleaser. Of you're looking for a solid daily drinker, you could get it here. I believe they use retrograde coffee which is decent. Overall. I like this place. They have big live edge tables and benches that you can easily fit a large family of 8 (ask me how I know) and enjoy a meal and coffee with. I used to love this place but it seems to be going through some changes. There is a new beautiful mural that took the place of the old Cracker Barrel looking decor on one wall. The food quality is still good, but the prices have all either gone up, or you get less food for the price. My go-to comfort food here is the chai tea and avocado toast. When I went this past week, the avaocado toast was slightly smaller and with slightly less avocado (the avocado has been shrinking over the last few years, I'm guessing its proportional to the price of avocados) and it no longer comes with a side (green) salad. There used to be a healthy amount of lettuce, but this time I only got a few very small pieces of fruit (I wouldn't even call it a fruit salad). I can't justify paying $12 for this small amount of food. The $4 chai comes in a cup that is between 6 and 8 ounces and they still charge $1 per refill. Both the original price and the refill price are ridiculous for this brewed tea. Unless they are adding gold leaf to the chai now, it's just not worth it. I used to really love eating at this spot, but the price range is moving into the special-occasions-only realm while the food is not changing. The food is absolutely delicious. The quality is still there, but the value is not. read more

Red Bird Bakery is one of my favorite local spots and everything I've tried there has been absolutely delicious. Their jam and butter scone is my personal favorite. They offer a great selection of pastries and baked goods, and you can even special order cupcakes or cakes for any event. Their fresh-baked bread is some of the best I've had anywhere in Sonoma County, soft, flavorful, and consistently top quality. The coffee cheesecake and panna cotta were a huge disappointment. The coffee cheesecake was very grainy and the "crust" was half mush. The panna cotta was sour and consistency was loose in the middle, definitely not set properly. Customer service was terrible. The girl was impatient, did not greet or thank us, and just wandered off when we were finishing the transaction. No bag offered. No receipt. She just left to go resume chatting with her colleague that we "interrupted". This is not the first issue with this location. There have been double charges, failure to give discount even when the 5$ off was redeemed in cashapp or at the register, and issues with bakes and pizza. This is the last we will be visiting and will no longer recommend to others. Which is unfortunate as we've been customers for four years. I am a usual here and have never been a huge fan of their customer service. However, I continue to come for the pastries. I would argue that Red Bird is the best bakery in the Rohnert Park/Cotati area. Now if only they could coach their staff to be a little bit nicer. As mentioned, I frequent this place often and have never felt the sense that I am welcomed but I digress. The last time I was here, I paid with a virtual gift card. I had paid with the same one just the week before with no problem. Anyways, the manager maybe? told me that she could not take my gift card at that particular register. Odd, I thought so I asked her why not. She was very short with me and said that her register could not read the barcode that was on the gift card and that she needed a number. Great, I thought maybe she could ring me up at the front register to scan it. Nope, she told me I could find the original gift card link which was in my email somewhere! Took so long to find and I could tell she was loosing patience. I think she had expected me to pay with another form a payment since she didn't want to go through any hassle. All this to say, that she could have given me a bit more grace and taken me to the front register. In conclusion, food is good but staff are not always nice. read more

It was my fault to come close to closing so I had a limited selection but the seeded levain loaf is to die for!!! I tried a piece of spicy pizza with all kinds of peppers on it - cold so it wasn't at its best but I needed a quick bite. I was hoping to get some leftover pastries at a deal but the girl at the counter was like no but I can through in an epi baguette so that was a bonus. We stopped here just to grab a quick bite on our road trip and shared a slice of their chicken pesto pizza I don't remember what it's actually called. We ordered it to go. We got handed the pizza and my mom asked if they could warm it up for us. They started helping other people after we had paid, which is fine. My reasoning for the one star review is because after the pizza was done they literally just threw it on the counter and my mom and I were chatting so we had no idea that our pizza was ready and some lady took it. We asked if we could have it redone and they said no because they had just run out of that type of pizza. They also refused to refund us. I asked if we could have a different slice then because it's not fair to just take seven dollars from somebody. The lady rolled her eyes and threw a fit and gave it to us cold. In general I love this place, great coffee, delicious pastries and sandwiches, welcoming environment. My issue here is with the owners response to dogs on the table. I understand welcoming a well-behaved service dog or even a demure pet on leash, on the floor under a table, into a food service area. But when the pet owner invites the dog onto the seat, allowing it to place paws and face in the table next to the food...and the shop owner simply shrugs ... gives concern for how health standards are held throughout the process. The cookies!! Get them, you must (says Yoda apparently)! Humungo cookies that have a nice little chewy give to them. The brownie cookie and the ginger cookie (the lady at the counter said ginger but tasted more like a general pumpkin spice) were scrumptious! As for the pastries, they're just ok. Liked the glaze on the berry danish, but the mushed-berries filling tasted a bit unripe-sour. The almond croissant was nicely raised but the almond filling was really sweet and over-crystallized with sugar. The cinnamon twist could've had more cinnamon flavor. Also, these pastries had an old texture to them; was already worried about this when I saw the cinnamon rolls in the display case with cracked, dried-out icing (was hoping that it was just the cinnamon rolls that had the freshness issue). I think this is more of a nitpick, but I wished that there was better labeling on the items in the display case; only a few items were labeled. Would have been fine if this was intended to spark more like an interactive thing with the staff where they walk you through the whole display case but, no, I had to ask the lady who was standing at the cashier station not engaging with anyone to help me identify some of the sweets lol. Keep in mind, I don't like pepperoncini or pickles, but I never take them out, when included in these particular sandwiches. Love the Cotati location, have never had a bad experience here. They're Santa Rosa location is limited and doesn't offer the same variety that the Cotati location does. I've never visited their Sebastopol location.
