Great sour dough! Always fresh and delicious. Reminds me of my younger days in San Francisco.

If you only eat one loaf of bread in your life make it the "sourdough round". This is hands down the best bread currently in existence.

Red Bird happens to have an excellent gluten free muffin, as well as a to-die-for gluten free brownie. This morning, I had the cranberry orange GF muffin and it was so good. The flavors felt very holiday and the muffin was the perfect texture. My wife loves their breakfast sandwiches, but she is not a huge fan of their English muffins so she gets them on sourdough bread. Red Bird makes all their breads and they are really great quality. If you ever come in for lunchtime then their artisan pizza is the main attraction. They make some really wonderful, unique pizzas that you can get a slice or two and enjoy! Red Bird also offers good coffee here (Retrograde!) and other hot drinks. Plus, they do cakes and desserts to order. We have ordered their Yule Log for several Christmas's in the past, and we order cakes here for birthdays. The service here is always friendly and helpful, and we love sitting at their long, wooden tables when there is time to eat at the cafe. I like their dining area, which feels very communal and fun. If you haven't been here before then come and check it out!

Came here to meet a friend before a trip to the coast and somehow this place turned into mission control. Snacks? Covered. Drinks? Secured. "What's the plan?" meeting? Handled. This place isn't a stop... it's the pregame to your entire adventure. We walked in like "let's just grab a couple things real quick" ...and immediately started acting like we were prepping for a 3-day expedition into the wilderness. Trail mix, drinks, random artisan goodies we absolutely didn't need but emotionally required--into the basket they go. The vibe hits you right away--warm, local, no nonsense. Not that fake "rustic but expensive" energy... this is the real deal. The kind of place where you half expect someone to hand you sourdough and life advice. Now let's talk about that wood-fired kitchen... The smell alone should come with a warning label. You walk in thinking you have self-control... and 5 minutes later you're ordering like you just finished a marathon you didn't run. Zero regrets. Grab-and-go here is elite. Perfect if you're road-tripping because everything feels intentional--like it was made for people who say "we'll just eat in the car" and then end up parked somewhere scenic turning it into a full dining experience. Outside seating? Dangerous. You sit down "just for a minute" and suddenly you're 45 minutes deep into conversation, solving life, planning detours, and debating whether the coast trip should include at least three unnecessary stops (it should). The market side is where discipline goes to die. You go in for water... leave with snacks, drinks, and at least one item you'll later say, "honestly... great decision." Parking is easy, place is clean, and the whole experience just flows without trying too hard. This isn't just a market. It's a pit stop that turns into a personality trait. Will I be back? Yeah... next time I'm pretending I only need one thing again.

I feel like it's presence in the area has changed the tone of the other businesses and bringing the quality up substantially. Owned and operated by the stellar team from Petaluma Market, Penngrove market has a ton of amazing things. I have been known to pop in and wander even if I don't have anything I need, just to see what they have seasonally or new. I love their gourmet options and so much is locally sourced. In the back, you will find fresh pizza and sandwiches made for lunch time and dinner and they also do to go dinner that you can pre-order for your entire family which is great. Some of my favorite things from Penngrove market are the JM Rosen cheesecake, their awesome selection of chocolates and desserts, and the ever-changing coffee, tea and spices. For the wine and beer drinkers, they have a small but impressive selection of local and imported beverages, as well as many drinks for those looking for something refreshing and non-alcoholic. The coffee bar at the front is an excellent choice for morning pastry and hot drink, or you can bypass that entirely and go for the Strauss organic soft serve which is honestly not to be missed. The location of the store is easy to get to as long as you are coming at a time that does not coincide with school pickup, and there's lots of parking right on the street or in their parking lot. Prices are moderately high, but what you get for that price is high quality and supporting local business which works for me!

They have specialty shelf stable chocolate and snacks and a display full of beautiful desserts! ** pistachio cream puff (4.5/5): unlike the more traditional choux shell, this one was laminated like croissant dough-- fun! The cream was also thick enough to not leak everywhere and didn't taste artificial. Really enjoy this one! ** strawberry and cream chiffon cake slice (3.5/5): didn't really feel like a chiffon cake or maybe it was on the drier side. It worked well with the mascarpone frosting though, which was smooth and a little too rich for me by itself. There wasn't too much strawberry besides the sweet jam layer in the middle. ** Brutta mi buoni (4/5): translated to "ugly but delicious," this craggly meringue actually caught my eye and curiosity for its looks. I'm usually not a fan of meringues, but this one was loaded with nuts and was tasty. Kind of tastes like a refined version of those Lucky Charms cereal marshallows in a good way! Happy with my little haul at Stellina Pronto! They were friendly and had a few window seats + outdoor seating. I'll probably stop by next time I'm in the area to try some new items. Definitely check them out if you're nearby!

Seriously, you might think pie is pie, but no, there's pie, and then there's pie from Petaluma Pie Company. Friendly employee and clean area outside the shop is well. So that's good. I Spy With My Little Pie…read more This farm-to-table, locally-owned pie shop has been serving up both sweet and savory pie creations in Downtown Petaluma since 2010. They recently underwent an ownership change in 2024 from the OGs, but fortunately, instead of selling to a corporation, they sold it to an employee and his mother to help ensure the original ethos and quality remain intact. The Good: * Their pies are made with locally-sourced and organic ingredients bought from the local farmers market--as well as some fruit that they grow themselves! * Outdoor dog-friendly seating * As mentioned above, they have both sweet and savory pies. We only tried the sweet *oink oink* * Friendly service * Love that they have both full sized pies and smaller ones, so you don't have to commit to a big ol' pie. * We tried their Elvis (PB, banana, and chocolate) and their Black & Blue Crumble and they were both fabulous! I leaned a bit more to the B&B, as I absolutely adored that granola crumble on top, but the Elvis was no slouch either. The Meh: * Interior is small and very cramped. Definitely a grab-and-go type operation. The Ugly: * Parking in DT Petaluma can be a hassle, as it's street parking only, but at least it's free. Conclusion: Fantastic spot to scratch that 3.14 itch--and I'm always itchy!
