Nightingale Breads have been on my to try list for a bit. Not sure when I bookmarked this place, but it was a convenient stop on the drive home! It's a very small shop with a big counter space for ordering and displaying their pastries and bread. It looks like their work area may be behind the counter so to prevent inside crowding, a limited amount of people go in at a time. On Sundays, they have scones! So I ordered a Strawberry Pistachio scone to try and we picked up two Small Chocolate Thimbles to try. For take-home bread, we bought the Forestville French Baguette, Sesame Epi Baguette, and a Country Bird. We also picked up a tea cake to enjoy at home. I can only review the scone and Thimbles since at the time of this review, this is what I've tried. The Strawberry Pistachio scone was not too sweet, which is great. I like how the pistachio bits add flavor to it, kinda wish they added more pistachio. I'm not sure I personally like the strawberries since they're kinda mushy, but my partner really liked the addition of strawberries because it's like adding cream to a biscuit and this scone was more like a biscuit than a scone (in our opinion). It's buttery, airy, and light, but it's pretty good! I think the Thimbles were better though. I can only describe it as a fudgy brownie with a thin crusty outer layer. What a decadent little treat! I can see why this is a local favorite! Their pastries are delicious. I can't wait to see how the bread tastes like and I'm glad we stopped by to pick up some goodies! Adorable little bakery located in the tiny town of Forestville, CA! We visited Nightingale Breads on a Saturday, which meant we were in luck, as its rotating specials were calling our name. The line was out the door and took a while to get in, but once we made it inside the small space, we were greeted kindly by the staff and treated to great-looking bread and pastries. We picked up a baugette, a seeded loaf, a pluot tea cake, and some chocolate thimbles. The chocolate thimbles are truly amazing, and I would come back to get a thousand of those. They are like the best brownie you've ever had in a little bite-sized delight. The bread was also good- on par with many other small local bakeries I have visited. The pluot cake was very nicely done with great texture and fresh pluot topping. It would have gone great with some vanilla ice cream. I'd imagine Nightingale Breads is the type of place where everything is delicious. I don't think you'll miss here. read more

I love this little hidden gem; it's a place I can only visit on the weekend as thg hours don't work for me during the week so it's become a treat. I typically grab a cup of coffee from the coffee house across the street Ang enjoy it while I wait in line. If I'm lucky enough to visit on a Sunday, the star has to be the scones. They are not your typical dry, dense scones; these are light and buttery. I have a hard time deciding between sweet and savory. I also really enjoy their seeded sliced bread. It is also light and beautiful. Great for avocado toast, sandwiches, panini, garlic bread. It's a winner. read more

Amazing...best bread and bakery items in the area. We go every Saturday for bread and Sunday for scones.

The scones are incredible! My favorite was the key lime followed by molasses with candied ginger. They don't have them available all the time, which I think makes it all the better. Breads are great and really nice staff helping out in a little area. read more

Nightingale opens 11am on the weekend so I got there a few mins before they opened and lined up. A cute lil bakery in downtown Forestville, plenty of street parking. They still only allow 2 people in at a time. I ordered a lime cheesecake, a chocolate cookie, a large french bread, and 2 thimbles and came to over $40. Definitely pricey! I would suggest ordering the smaller french bread if you cant finish the large one in a day. I tried to eat the other half the next day and it was as hard as a rock. The lime cheesecake however surprised me! It was delicious. It was the only flavor they had when I was there but according to their menu they sometimes have lemon and passion fruit. Worth a stop! Its only a 3 min drive down from Mom's Pies. read more

Out of all places, I wouldn't think to find myself here, but through a lot of mouth and recommendations, I am here for the cheesecake. Don't get me wrong. Everything is good here, but the cheesecake is amazing. I can't remember which day they are closed, but I think it was Wednesday or Monday. Who knows but I made it here. With seasonal bakery items and the cheesecake selling out sometimes make sure you get here at opening. I added this to my stock before going to Russian River in Greenvale to pick up some snacks and it was well worth the detour. I ordered a cheesecake, some bread some pastry of the day, and that was plenty for to enjoy along the riverfront. Although I regret not getting more as I was leaving to go home that day, but you know it'll make it worthwhile to come back again. Very polite and helpful service to get you in and out as the place is very small. You will have to wait outside to get in which probably can hold two customers at a time. Best challah in the Bay Area.. actually I don't think I've had such a moist and fluffy brioche in the US. Most are kind of dry but this one is milky perfection. Basically braided Japanese milk bread. read more

A very good bakery with an eclectic selection from a culinary school graduate, there's a lot of variety for a good price (and some slightly wonky hours) to be found here. Some personal favorites - the standard baguette is always good, better than anything store-bought, the sesame epi is a nice change of pace that breaks into nice single-serving portions for cheese or meat on the side, they make some pretty good dessert or breakfast pastries (although personal annoyance, avoid the cinnamon rolls - entirely too many currants and nuts, I just want a cinnamon roll), and they have a small selection of meats, cheeses and baking products available as well. The best product they sell, however, is a Saturday special - the spent grain. Using roasted grains from a brewery, it's an extremely dense, hearty, but flavorful dark bread with a lot of nice roasted notes to it, and goes amazingly with rich flavors like soft cheese or pate. Definitely a go-to for anyone, and due to its size and weight it's gonna be the best bang for your buck as well. read more

I left this bakery with a bag full of bread and ended up eating half a baguette on the way home. Imagine a bread so soft that you can eat it without butter or a beverage. Just had one of Heather's outstanding chocolate-hazelnut scones. Scones are notoriously dry. Heather's are delightfully moist, not too sugary, and full of balanced flavor. Wanted to try this place ever since we had some of their delicious bread at our friends' house. Now, Forestville isn't exactly on our route, but after a morning hike at Armstrong Woods (Guerneville) we were driving close enough by along River Road that we turned up Mirabel to find this fantastic bakery whose name we couldn't remember. Fortunately, Forestville is a pretty small town and Nightingale is the only bakery in town that isn't also a cafe, so it was pretty easy to ID and find. Glad we did -- bought a seeded mini-round loaf and a sourdough baguette that had some cheese and chives inside (the filling changed daily). I've torn into the baguette and keep going back to the kitchen to tear off another piece -- I'm losin' control..... I really wanted to love this place and was excited to finally try after years of driving by. Really wanted to become a regular local customer. I am majorly disappointed. I put in an order ahead of time bc I've seen lines and wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna miss out. I ordered the sesame epi, pizza dough, the baklava inspired cinnamon roll, regular cinnamon roll and at pickup saw that they had a plain cinnamon roll so picked one up. The epi was good, but super chewy. Did not taste as oven fresh as I expected. The cinnamon rolls were on the dry side for me. Tasted a bit more moist slightly heated up. The baklava flavors were there with a slight hint of zest. Unfortunately, I did not get to taste the traditional cinnamon roll bc I got two of the baklava inspired. Don't know how that got messed up! . Haven't baked the pizza dough so I hope leaving to next day will still be good. I deducted a star for poor customer service from the woman who was working the front (red curl hair). Upon walk in I didn't get a hello or much acknowledgment. I let it slide, but after being rung up, I said thank you and didn't get a thank you back. I'm only hyper sensitive bc the customer prior to me and after me were both greeted. ‍‍ read more

Best cinnamon rolls ever. 'Nuf said. We were visiting from Reno. Rode the bike path to Sebastopol and were putting bikes up on the car rack and noticed a line outside the bakery. That's all we needed to head over and take our place at the end. There was a short menu of items on the door but we couldn't really see inside so we didn't know exactly what to expect. The shop was small but filled with a selection of beautiful breads. We grabbed some focaccia, which we ate in the car and it was excellent-super fresh with olive oil, carmelized onion and herbs. We couldn't pass up the cinnamon rolls and the next morning on the drive home, we were so happy to have them as a treat. Like heaven in my mouth.
