Legit greasy spoon type diner that serves good food and good portions. My daughter had chicken-fried steak with potatoes and my wife and I both ordered omelettes. I went with the Whole Hog with potatoes and pancakes. The omelette was stuffed and the potatoes were served in a huge portion. Couldn't complain. It was a busy Saturday and we waited about 20 minutes for a table. The waitress provided great service and they went out of their way getting us a table. We would return. read more

Sunny's Diner - Whole Hog Omelet, Hash Browns - American Near Me - Tempe, Arizona

Point old-fashioned diner in a conveniently located area off Main Street with ample parking good for small or large groups. Friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the menu. Comfortable dining and the food was good but not fantastic. It did not warrant the price charged on average. The meals are between five and seven dollars more expensive than other restaurants. For two people plan on spending about $45-$55. That's outrageous in my opinion. read more

For those who have been in AZ for a while may recognize this restaurant as the old Marie Calendars. It's been busy both times I've been in, and service was pretty consistently good. We've tried a few things there, waffles, bacon, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, and eggs. I wasn't crazy about the biscuits and gravy, it was too sausage tasting. Bacon was ok, waffle and hash brown potatoes were amazing. Overall I'd recommend it, prices were fair, parking is meh, and food was good with a large menu. read more

Been going to Sunny's for years... always had a good experience prior Today I walked in and was told the card reader is down and they only accept cash if that's ok I said that's no problem. I sat down and waited 25 MINUTES and nobody came to take my order or ask what I wanted to drink :( After waiting almost 30 minutes I had to walk out I was tired of being ignored. *double thumbs down* read more

I liked Sunny's. It had been a very long time since my last visit. I did notice they are keeping shorter hours now. The place hasn't changed much in all the years except maybe it is much friendlier then ever. I might say that its the friendliest restaurant in town. The food is great and what you might expect from this type of breakfast diner. Lots of Breakfast combos to choose from, create your own Or grab a sandwich and fries, or the obligatory salads. I bet the pie is good but I didnt have any, maybe next time. read more

Service was very good but the Denver omelette was not good Rubbery cheese with no cheddar flavor and the onions and bell peppers were raw

The waiter was rude they served my food on a dirty plate He threw my straws for dunks on the table instead of placing them down He also ask me when I was sitting there waiting to order if I want something or was I just there to drink water I recommend never patronize this establishment read more

This place obviously doesn't care about business. We waited for 10 minutes while the staff passed us by without even acknowledging we were there. Took another 10 minutes for anyone to realise we were seated and offered to get us drinks. And another 10 minutes to actually get the coffee. 30 minutes and still haven't ordered food...do not come here if you're on a time schedule! Food was okay, at best. We can cook a better breakfast at home and for 1/3 of the cost. Staff is swamped. Owner obviously doesn't care about employees or customers. Will give my money to someone else next time. read more

The food was good I had breakfast with French toast I believe always cooked well the coffee was hot the staff was nice and the management pleasing. Expect to spend around 10 to $12 a plate possibly more if you like the add ons but it's well worth it everything is cooked excellent and there's more than enough food on each plate to fill you up. I would highly recommend this place over something such as like mats big breakfast only because you get a little more personalized service here the service is better and you get more food. read more

First of all, staff was wonderful! Friendly, courteous, helpful, etc! No complaints in that area. Looking at the other reviews, I'm sure this place is great at times. I've never been here before, and I even told the person who took my order that this is the first time I've ever been there. However, my experience with the food here was on the very disappointing side. I got my food to go because I have to get to class. Im sure you can imagine the big disappointment to get to school, open my food box to eat quickly before class only to find that my food is burned. Home style potatoes... can't taste the potatoes. I don't think I've ever had potatoes in anything and not tasted the potatoes, but this is because all I can taste is charred starch. The omelette looked like it was going to be good, really good. Unfortunately, it was also burned. The cook apparently burned one aide, and then folded the omelette so that you don't see the burned side. I suppose it's that whole, "If I can't see you, you can't see me" kind of thinking: read more

This place has gone downhill in the past few years. Stopped in for breakfast recently. The food was terrible and the prices are very high. Also had trouble with their credit card reader so I paid cash then later notices the charge on my bank statement. Called several times to get this issue fixed but nobody calls me back. Don't eat here. read more

Four stars?? Four stars my you know what. I will never go here again and I gave this place 4-5 opportunities in the past two years or so. Here is why. Not only is the service always ridiculously slow, (take today for example. Only two people at the bar, I'm one of them. Takes five minutes to ask me if I want a drink and another five to bring me my water) But the food is also very underwhelming and lacking any type of flavor whatsoever. My omelette gets to me and I can immediately tell it's been left on the pan too long. The edges are brown which they tried to hide with cheese. I bite into it/ and this omelette had four items. 3 meats and one veggie. Zero taste whatsoever. So bad I thought I had Covid. I couldn't taste a thing. It was rubbery and lacking any flavor at all. So I move to the big side of home fries. Same thing even with ketchup! Zero flavor and like eating cardboard. Just a big pile of bland. I politely got up, and talked to the hostess . I was calm and polite about me leaving my food and why. I didn't go into too much detail I just told her it was absolutely tasteless and had no seasoning at all. I did not inform her this was my 4-5 time with the same issue so she may have wondered why I didn't give the chance to make it right. I left quietly and without incident. Staff was fine. Aside from the ten minute wait for water I love never had a problem with them . But the quality of food that has come from that kitchen on multiple visits with multiple different items ordered (omelettes, biscuits, Mexican) is sub par and I will not be going back. Is there any quality control in there at all? I hear this place used to be an amazing little spot. I'm convinced they are surviving off of the name they built in this area and peoples inability to point out sub par food. If brutal honestly is what it's going to take to get them to change, then I hope more people wrote reviews like this. I gave Sunny's every opportunity and they failed. read more

We were craving breakfast over the weekend, and faced with the decision of going to Denny's (Closer by), or Sunny's Diner, we wanted to support locally owned businesses. Plus, the food's way better! Since my last review the menu's changed a little, but the quality and quantity of food you get is still consistently good. I ordered the special for the day- the meatloaf breakfast. At around $10, it was an large helping of sliced meatloaf covered in gravy, 3 eggs, with your choice of toast/biscuit and hash browns. The meatloaf was dense and packed with flavor. The hash browns, as always, were excellent, cooked on the griddle perfectly. I opted for a biscuit, which was a large fist-sized portion, light and fluffy tasting. It was so much food I could only finish about half. Service was friendly and drinks were refilled as needed. Overall, still a great place to dine! read more

Ordered 40 minutes ago and still waiting........ I ordered the Irish Eggs Benedict which is made with corned beef hash and comes with home fries. Also have my two kids with me and they are starving and now restless. Update: food finally arrived! Average at best in flavor. Undercooked and runny poached eggs. Pineapple slice on Mickey Mouse pancakes was old and tangy in an expired way. When you go in - tell them that Chris from Yelp recommended you go there. They will have no idea who the hell I am but it might provide some interesting entertainment and a good laugh or two! Enjoy! read more

This is a great little breakfast joint on Mcklintock and University. Real easy to find. The rest of thestrip mall is suspect, liquor store and all... I went several times this week while in town and had the 2 eggs, Ham, hash browns, and sourdough toast. The hash browns were burt a couple of times, but the rest was great. The Ham was very large. The staff is really great. The timing of checking on us was perfect. They were able to anticipate our needs and were very helpful. Always check on the specials. You better be good and hungry when you walk through the doors of Sunny's diner. Because your portions are large and flavorful. The service was good and their waiters and waitresses were fast and kind. They kept our water, coffee and juice filled. We had stopped in for lunch. But I must say I was unable to dinner afterwards. Great breakfast selection...friendly staff, decent prices, good service. Large portions. Typical diner atmosphere.

Although there a few familiar good places for breakfast in the area, I saw the menu to this diner and it peaked my interest. A corner restaurant in a less desirable location than say the local mall or upscale options, but the place was busy and it was a good choice. We ordered the meat lovers and upgrade for the pancakes for a dollar. I'm on Keto but my husband isn't, so this was ample food with a nice combo of proteins for me. He said the potatoes were good and the pancakes were just ok. I like the ham, bacon and sausage... coffee was good too. Service was good except that my husband had to get up to get that extra plate we asked for. Not uncommon that servers everywhere forget to bring an extra plate when they first come, but to not immediately fix that means we both wait to eat as the food gets cold. (FYI we tip as if we order two meals knowing a shared meal often alters their income. ) read more

We stopped in on Saturday morning, there were people waiting outside. Since we were visiting from out of state, we figured this was a good sign that we picked the right place for breakfast. We had a wait of only 10min. The menu was huge, so much to choose from. Our server, Rashida, was really sweet and told us about her favorites on the menu since the decision was hard. I went with the El Patron skillet (which had potatoes at the base, house made chorizo, pepperjack cheese, pickles jalapenos, grilled gr peppers & onions, topped with 2 eggs, pico de gallo, side of sour cream and came with toast). My friend got the Chicano Benedict (eggs benedict made with Chorizo and jalapenos and tomatoes, came with a side of homefries. Both meals were good, the chorizo has a real kick to it. So beware of you're not a fan of spicy foods. The food came out very fast considering they were very busy. The service was great, they have plenty of staff and do a lot of carryouts and Grubhub orders. I see they kept a lot of tables empty, I assume it was to provide some social distancing, all of the staff was wearing masks, too. One thing I didn't like was the bathroom, very small and needed some attention, could have been cleaner, the front of house looked very clean, though. read more

Sunny's had great food years ago. Today, not so much! My potatoes tasted like someone mixed sand in them. They were also cold and cooked in old grease. My pancakes were so thick I almost choked on a small piece I had to cut with a steak knife. For the price I paid, my reviews should send folks running to patronize them. Instead, I am advising you to BEWARE! The quality has dropped dramatically. read more

I came here because of the high reviews. Sunny's was ok. Had to keep getting the server's attention from ordering, to refills, etc. The booth we sat at was a little dirty. I ordered an Irish omelet (Corned beef hash and melted cheddar cheese stuffed in an omelet). It was a little salty. read more

Great grub and fast. It's hard to give a diner five stars. The building is a little rundown, but the food is very good.

We thought it was pretty basic style food. Large amounts of food could really share a plate between two people.

I actually was going to Waffle House first but it was too busy and we had a long wait. We ended up leaving and going to this place instead because it was close by and it was also a diner. I'm glad we decided to go here, it was a much better choice and more options on the menu. The employees were really nice. I had originally ordered the Garden Omelette with the eggs on the side over easy (I know, weird) but they said they could only give me that option ordering the Farmer's Skillet. The skillet was really good and what I was expecting from what I originally ordered. The server was nice and informed me they couldn't make what I originally wanted too. I am really happy about this food, it tasted fresh. The hash browns were not the frozen ones and tasted really good. The coffee was also tasty. read more
