LOVE this place and the vibes!! An authentic American style diner that hasn't been touched since the 90's. Makes me feel like a kid again going out to eat with my grandparents. Food is AMAZING and comforting. Service is great and prices are unbeatable. Wish I could eat here everyday!!

Went here on the way out of town and it was exactly what we needed! It was Sunday morning but still seat yourself, fast friendly service. Cute diner ambiance! We all got breakfast and enjoyed it! Biscuits are nice and soft! Great little place if you are in the area! Easy parking and clean bathroom!

Since finding out about this breakfast diner, we have gone here multiple times per month for the last year. Every time we come and bring friends or family we have a great time. The coffee is strong, the service is friendly and quick, and the food is very reasonably priced with good portions. We really appreciate going to this spot on the weekend and seeing the friendly staff. I always get the chicken fried steak and eggs and my wife gets either French toast, pancakes, the specials, or the breakfast sandwich and seems to enjoy them all. We have always had a great experience at Jim's!

This is our nearby diner. It's not at all fancy but it's exactly what I want when we go for breakfast. The food is tasty and the staff is friendly. We had 6 of us and easily found a table for us. This is the kind of place that has regulars who've been coming for years. Quiet and relaxed place with easy parking, very no fuss. Large portions. We shared the Hungry Man breakfast- 3 eggs, 3 bacon, 3 sausage, hash browns, 2 pancakes, and a side of biscuits & gravy. All my faves.

Looks deceiving from the outside, but decided to give this place to try and food is amazing. They have a lot of options. Coffee is great. Staff is friendly. Recommend this place 100%.

Amazing diner, can be a bit slow service when busy but come relax and take a beat with this south Scottsdale staple!

I am a fan of old school diners and this location does not disappoint the staff her is friendly but all business. I especially enjoyed the yellow counter chairs, boy it reminds me of places I ate when I was a kid in the 70s and early 80s. I ordered coffee, eggs over medium, sausage links, and white toast. The coffee was very good and leaned to the strong side. The eggs were perfect, the sausage exceptional in taste, and the hashbrown ms were expertly cooked. The toast was on the more well done side but that didn't bother me. All in all a perfect breakfast!

I got here early and it's not too far a walk from home. It's a cozy atmosphere with nice people who serve and regulars who know what they want before the cook takes orders. I appreciate the diner style bar seating. I took my green chili omelette, applesauce, and bagel to go. They welcome dogs. I think I reviewed this place before, if not here it is. They have great coffee as well!

Do they use Kogel Viennas? And would you call that the Detroit style chili?

No. You can't get a Detroit coney in the Phoenix area. I've been trying to for 45 yrs. You can go to Michigan market in mesa and buy kogels Viennas and the chili sauce.

My first visit to Harlow's was back in 1993--when Tempe still felt like a college town with rough edges and a pulse--this place went by another name: Mae West. The name change? That's a story best told over coffee and eggs, which is exactly how all good stories should be told. What never changed was the vibe: a room that quietly collected stories. You see it on the walls--old Hollywood glamour nodding to Mae West the actress, winking at you from another era, reminding you that Tempe once flirted with style and danger before developers discovered spreadsheets. And then there's the music. In the '90s and early 2000s, when the Tempe music scene was punching way above its weight, this place was part diner, part unofficial green room. Bands didn't just eat here--they held court. You'd find members of Gin Blossoms, The Refreshments, and a rotating cast of local music heroes sliding into booths, fueling up. No velvet ropes. No backstage passes. Just eggs, coffee, and the quiet understanding that everyone in the room was part of the same scene. You still feel it. The memorabilia isn't curated--it's accumulated. Earned. Like scars on a boxer. And through all of it--name changes, real estate pressure, ASU's corporate gravity well--Harlow's endured. We talked with the owners, John and Kimberly, about how Tempe's mom-and-pop joints have been steadily squeezed out by institutional money and chain logic. Harlow's survived not by scaling, but by belonging. Locals. Students. Musicians. Families. Same door, same welcome. You come here for chorizo and eggs that understand their purpose in life. For Belgian waffles that don't need reinvention. For breakfast that refuses to be ironic. But you stay because places like this are rare now--rooms where culture happened accidentally, not because someone branded it that way. Harlow's Cafe isn't just a great breakfast spot. It's a time capsule that still feeds you. A small, stubborn act of resistance. And proof that if you do the simple things right--and treat people like they matter--you just might outlast the wrecking ball.

We both ordered medium rare prime rib, and we both got medium well instead. They told us that was as rare as they had. I think it was cold and was reheated in the microwave to warm it back up again. The dinner came with 2 sides, but because it was not 4pm yet they didn't have any baked potatoes ready yet, so country red skins were the next best thing along with the green beans. The potatos were decent, but the green beans were canned and mushy. The salad was lettuce, 2 tomatos, 2 cucumber slices, and some shredded carrots. Their ranch dressing was decent, but I maybe got about a half of a tablespoon. The one thing both of us loved was their cornbread muffins. They were delicious, and I even thought about bringing home some extras because they were that good. The service was quick, but maybe a little too quick. I hadn't even finished putting the dressing on my salad when dinner came out. I still like this place for breakfast, but I don't think we'll be back for dinner again.

We came in with our family and three kids and sat on the patio since we were a larger group. After eating, our kids were sitting in chairs near our table, chatting and moving around a bit. They weren't being loud or disruptive, but a nearby a couple clearly seemed upset. The woman was shaking her head and saying to the waitress "this isn't okay to be doing while people are eating", pointing toward our kids. Once I realized this, I immediately called my kids back over and had them sit with us, and I even let her know that if something was bothering her, she could've told us and I would have addressed it right away. The couple chose to ignore us and left shortly after. The manager then came out and reassured us that Lucky Lou's is a family-friendly restaurant and that our kids were absolutely fine. That meant a lot to us and really showed how supportive and understanding the staff is. I also hope one day that couple realizes how hard it is to keep a 4-, 6-, and 8-year-old sitting at a table for more than 30 minutes without shoving an iPad in front of them. On top of that, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was welcoming, and I honestly had the best burger and tater tots of my life.
