Thai Beef Salad - absolutely delicious - with cucumber tomato, red onion, carrot, iceberg and their vinaigrette
    Laura C.

Hey, Sunny Thai! Welcome to Cedar Hill. We are thrilled to have a high quality Thai restaurant come to Cedar Hill. We've been to both Sunny Thai Arlington and Mansfield and while the drive isn't bad from where we live, Cedar Hill is better. I'm going to start by saying that when we were there, they still had soft opening/new business issues for which I am always forgiving. We had a total of four wait people. If what I will call rotating servers continues in the future, I may have something to say about it. But for now, no. The new Sunny Thai was very busy when we showed up in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday! Excited much, Cedar Hill? People were waiting for to go orders and everyone seemed to be waiting for food. That's okay, too. The menu is exactly the same. Many, beautiful appetizers that you can't resist trying. A wealth of entrees that have something for everyone. We chose a fried shumai. We have never had shumai like that before and it is so worth it. The texture experience alone is justified. We cut the odd shumai in half to share, not wanting to deny the other a bite! I ordered the Thai Beef Salad. Crispy salad veggies with that wonderful dressing and tender beef. My husband had his favorite, green curry. It looked smooth and rich and dreamy. They offered us both a complimentary luncheon soup - a Tom Kha. Everything was very tasty and we walked out with leftovers. From the looks of things, Sunny Thai is off to a roaring start. This strip center is right off 67 in the large lot anchored by Krogers. This is a busy intersection but the restaurant is on the southernmost corner with plenty of parking.

The service was nice. The food was just very basic Thai not anything fancy. The red curry has a great flavor, as I kept eating the chicken it was very bland on it on and did not taste great but mixed in with the sauce it seemed to cover it up. The crab rangoon was burnt and the insides still not fully cooked.

This place is soooo good!!! Great service, great food, cute interior decor and lots of food options. We loved everything (except the steamed vegetables; those suckers are accurately named because they are flavored with steam and ONLY steam.... lol) With the exception of the flavorless veggies, I have zero complaints. Even my kids enjoyed the dishes. I love that you can customize your order with different levels of heat/spice. And I like that there is a kids menu with kid approved chicken nuggets for the unsophisticated palate of a picky toddler. Easily 5 stars.

    Lao Style Papaya Salad

Ordered to go. It was ready when we arrived. Ordered pad see eww (chicken), portion size compared to the container I normally would expect it to be filled more. Lad na chicken, very good, would order again, not too thick on the sauce. Also got the papaya salad Lao style, I wish they used cherry tomatoes or at least cut the tomatoes into smaller pieces, but it was very tasty just as my mom used to make. Cannot wait to order again and try some more of the menu. As a Laotian, I approve of the food so far.

The fried egg rolls and basil fried rice was very good. The wait staff if very attentive and helpful and know the menu well. The menu is very large can be overwhelming when your not sure what to eat at a new place but the staff helped guide our experience

Soft shell crispy crab and jasmine rice

I came with a companion for lunch. It was a little peculiar there was not a lunch menu. Our waitress when we were seated was being friendly, but was a bit forgetful when we were ordering water. She messed up my tea order. She did get my companion's tea order correct. It was confusing because our first waitress would disappear for long periods and another waitress #2 would check in on us. Periodically I would have to flag down waitress #2. After our food was served we saw waitress #1 one last time then never again which was weird. The restaurant wasn't super busy. Our food was ok to tasty but it wasn't anything to write home about. They did give us a light tom yum complementary soup. I ordered the soft shell crab tempura (E8) with basil, onion, green & red peppers and jasmine rice in a tasty sauce. My companion had the crispy beef dish which I liked but it didn't blow me away. We both had Thai iced tea, one regular tea, two glasses of water, two entrees and the bill came to around the high $60s before the tip we left (which I hope made it to our waitress because the hostess who welcomed us picked up the check personally instead of either one of our waitresses.) The atmosphere is clean. Music is good and the air is nice. All and all, we wont be back. There are similar restaurants that do it better on all fronts in terms of service, menu prices, and more flavors that feel more like individually prepared dishes instead of a nicely prepared buffet dish, even though the dish presentation was nice. Also there are other similar modern and old school Thai restaurants that don't crush the pocketbooks. About $67 for a casual eatery lunch for two people seems excessive.

I ordered the fried cauliflower appetizers and garlic noodles with a level one spice. The flavor was bursting and the spice was there. The food was made to order and the service was fantastic. I liked it so much that I came back two days later and order the fried mushroom appetizer and garlic rice with full veggies. It was soo tasty and the portion size was two meals. ThaiBinh's totally vegan menu looks delicious. Every item has a photo and although I only have appetizer photos, our entrees were just as tasty looking. My favorite edible, though, was the battered and fried eggplant half moons with garlic and green onion ($8). The creamy interior in juxtaposition to the crunchy exterior was dynamite! I could order that again and again. Equally pleasing was the crunchy rice paper wrapped Spring Roll ($8). I'm sure the protein choice makes a little difference from roll to roll. We had the vegan chick'n. It was a good flavor component. We noticed that there are a number of new items (for us). I ordered the spaghetti noodles in garlic sauce with cilantro and I picked Oyster Mushroom as my protein ($16). In retrospect, this is a dish I would take home and add more veggies to. Which is what I did do with the leftover. The portion is generous and delicious; it's just a lot of pasta to mushroom. My husband ordered a side of broccoli ($8) and somehow he also ordered this enormous mound of seasoned brown rice with it. It was too much even for two people. We took most of that home as well. And still, exactly as I remember him, Chef/Owner ThaiBinh Ho is friendly and unassuming. He actually remembered me from the first time I wrote a review and asked permission to take his photo. His food reflects his spiritual philosophy and his joy in sharing it with customers at the Desoto Marketplace. There's oodles of parking here with food trucks outside and the food kiosks inside. There are two areas with tables and chairs if you want to dine in and there's picnic tables outside. Since there are other non-restaurant businesses here, too, you can browse while you wait. Restrooms are in the back. There's even a playground if you have small children. Hours are weekday only, Tuesday through Friday with a break in the afternoon.

They don't deliver themselves but we've had all orders delivered in under 30 minutes which is great when you're really hungry. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 only because of errors and inconsistencies. They've made a mistake on every single order (eating chicken fried rice right now even though I ordered pork; last order came with extra rice instead of the extra eggs I ordered, etc.). So nothing major but it has happened on every order of food for 2 people. As far as consistency, I'm referring to things such as spice levels. I ordered a level 5 spice one time and it was decently spicy but nothing crazy. I ordered that same item another time with a spice level of 3 and could barely eat it because it felt like I was eating straight heat. The mistakes and inconsistencies haven't been enough to stop us from ordering though since we really do enjoy their food, and the portions are generous. I've been there in person once to pick up a replacement order after one of the errors b/c they don't have their own delivery drivers so there's no way to bring you the correct food order after the initial delivery. It was nice inside; appeared to be very clean with good ambiance. The girls at the counter were very nice and were quick to help get me my corrected order. I'd definitely recommend eating here but going in person may be best to ensure you get the right order.

As uncomfortable as it was, I politely pointed it out to the staff. They took the plate back but then returned with the exact same herbs, bugs still on them. Nothing had been replaced or addressed. After that, the atmosphere shifted and the staff acted noticeably uncomfortable, which made the situation even more awkward. To make matters worse, I later learned from someone who previously worked there that unused pho vegetables from other tables are reportedly reused. Whether that practice is consistent or not, combined with what I personally experienced, it raises serious concerns about food safety and hygiene. I can't in good conscience return, and I hope the restaurant takes these issues seriously. Cleanliness and proper food handling are non-negotiable.

The fish itself tasted fresh, but the batter wasn't fully cooked, leaving the inside gummy, including the rice. It was just okay overall and not what I was expecting from a fried roll. On a more positive note, the ramen was hot, fresh, and flavorful. That dish was definitely the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the restroom situation really took away from the experience. There was old, crusted yellow urine on the back of the toilet seats, and the soap dispenser was missing its spout, making it difficult to wash hands properly. Cleanliness, especially in the bathroom, is very important and needs immediate attention. With better consistency in food preparation and improved cleanliness, this place could be much better.
