Such delicious and simple dishes with complex flavor. The vegan and gluten free options are just amazing! An absolute gem.

I keep trying to get good pasta here. Missing flavor in the sauces. The pasta itself is not right and dishes are usually served lukewarm.

Solid homemade pasta, but the "elevated Italian" fell flat for us…read more We came to Trattoria Sbandati excited by the 4.5-star Google reviews and the promise of elevated Italian in Bend. The homemade pasta is decent--I'll give them that, but I couldn't taste it apart from the bland sauces. Unfortunately the two dishes we ordered didn't live up to the hype. The Tagliatelle al Ragu' alla Bolognese had a ground-beef sauce that was strangely bland and under-salted. It tasted like it had been boiled just to cover up the lack of seasoning--honestly reminded me more of a basic canned chili than a rich, slow-cooked Bolognese. The Pappardelle alla Chiantigiana was even more disappointing. The sausage had that tired, old-sausage flavor, and the sauce (fennel, tomato, leeks, Chianti) never popped. Everything just kind of sat there on the plate. The ambiance was okay, but the restaurant was strangely packed. We called at 4:00 when they opened and had to reserve the soonest table at 8 PM, so none of it made any sense in the end. The complimentary bread was cold, which feels like such a simple thing to get right. And at $30 and $36 for medium-sized bowls of pasta, I expected a lot more wow for the price. I make better versions of both dishes at home on a regular Tuesday night. Maybe we caught an off night or our tastes just don't line up with the majority, but with 300+ reviews at 4.5 stars I was genuinely surprised. Won't be rushing back.

I had them and was very satisfied. Drinks were great, and we appreciated the non-alcoholic mocktail options for part of our group. We ate here on a recent trip from Eugene and we're excited to see a cajun style restaurant in Bend…read more The restaurant is nice inside and has a low key upscale feel. The menu isn't very large and I think we both settled on choices quickly, deciding to try the most "quintessential" entrees to share. I chose the Blackened Redfish, and my boyfriend the Jambalaya. Even though we had already decided, the waitress went on her whole spiel through the menu highlights, including what we had already had planned to order. Awkward, but it was fine, and we didn't stray from our original choices. The Blackened Redfish was perfectly cooked and flaky. It was served on a bed of mashed potatoes with a slightly tangy sauce. All of it was tasty, but I was a bit disappointed in the lack of spice to the blackening seasoning and the sauce. Also, serving it on grits instead of mashed potatoes would have made it feel 100% more Cajun, even with lack of seasoning. The Jambalaya fared a bit better, although my boyfriend was also left puzzled by the lack of spice to this classic dish. In all ways it was a very good representation of New Orleans style red jambalaya, with the andouille sausage being particularly notable for flavor. The cornbread it came with was pretty good. We shared a piece of chocolate cake for dessert. A very decadent concoction of chocolate, peanut butter, and caramel. It was one of the better $12 slices of cake I've had. Overall? The service was good, if not a bit awkward with the menu spiel. The food was all very well prepared, but for a Cajun style restaurant they sure could stand to spice things up a bit. It's not cheap, but at least the entrees are a full sized meal and you don't have to order many "tiny plates" to cobble together a dinner.

Bad news. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

Definitely acquired a place so probably good. We didn't bring the kids.

Yay! It was the best veggie burger my husband has had in a long time... he added avocado and vegan cheese (which did make it a bit pricey). Awesome that you can do many different sides including regular fries, Cajun fries, salad, chips, and more options... do wish they had onion rings however. I got the hummus plate which was good but not the best I've had. It came with a baguette which was more like garlic bread so I would have, personally, liked pita more. It also had a few olives on the side with a red pepper type sauce. I got it with no pickled onions. They had a great beer selection and even a few tasty non-alcoholic beers. Also had kombucha on tap which was delicious (from Humm). Everyone working was super sweet and the vibes were relaxed and casual. Our food came out quick and exactly how we ordered it. They also seemed to have spaces for larger parties, too. They also have a little gift shop if you wanted to pick anything from shirts, to bottle openers, to beer candles and more! Would come back again!

I took a moment to study the vintage photo of the original firehouse that now serves as the brick bones of the restaurant. Awesome seeing the original garage doors and recognizing where the fire trucks would have sat in waiting. They even kept the fire pole above the bar. I found myself wishing other areas of the restaurant had been designed or decorated more intentionally to honor its soulful past. It wants to be a high class spot, but something about the interior design feels underwhelming. I enjoyed the drinks I tried although the menu seems a bit unimaginative. The energy was strange, maybe it was that night, but bar staff seemed to be a bit "altered" and on edge. One was wearing what may or may not have been an intentional cologne that smelled like the overpowering essence of hot rubber mixed with cigar smoke, and leather. I ended up ordering the fresh steelhead and it was amazing. Caesar salad was lovely. And the drink of the night was called something like a White Christmas but was sort of a wintery margarita. Awesome night in the end. But I prefer the Redmond location.

I found Brickhouse thanks to Yelp! and I was sold when I saw they had French Onion Soup and Blackened Ribeyes. The only problem was that it was a Sunday night and it would be 8 pm when I finally made my way there. They were open until 9 pm, but I know a lot of restaurants will close early if they don't have enough patrons. When I showed up at the restaurant I asked if they were still serving and the waitress that helped me went to check. The Manager came out and was very nice and said they were. I asked for the bar and he led me over to the bar with a menu. The bartender was incredibly nice from the get go. I should have written the review earlier, because then I would have remembered his name, but unfortunately it escapes me now. I already knew what I wanted but I didn't want to rush through it. I ordered a dirty martini and the French Onion Soup. Both were great. The soup was loaded with Gruyère, which I loved. It was rich and wasn't overwhelming with the onions. It hit the spot on this cold (to the Californian) night. The bartender recommended I try the Wagyu ribeye and I figured why not? So, I got the Blackened Wagyu Ribeye. It came with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies which were both really tasty. I like mashed potatoes, but I'm not crazy about them, but these were really good. The steak was huge and they cooked it perfectly. The blackening seasoning wasn't quite as flavorful as I am used to, but it was still good. I managed to get through the cap of the ribeye and that was delicious. I also had a glass of wine with my steak that the bartender helped me pick. Everything was really tasty, the restaurant was clean and upscale looking, and the people working there were very nice. It was the perfect way to spoil myself after transporting my foster kitten to Spokane and then driving back to California. I would definitely return if I make a trip through Bend again.
