Sunmerry Bakery reminds me of 85C Bakery, and I've been here a few times, but I'd rather go to 85 as they have a better selection and are a little fresher. Most recently, I came here to try their BOBA EGG TARTS BOX, which came with 2 in a package. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. The boba was soft and chewy, not hard like I thought it would be. I would definitely come back and get these, and highly recommend you try them if you like boba the way I do! All of their pastries here are fresh, but not the best. Their egg tarts are average, and I would rather get them from 85. They are soft and do not have the crunch and chewiness I'm looking for. However, their BRIOCHE bun is better than 85C Bakery in my opinion. They also serve Happy Lemon tea drinks here, which I think are okay and nothing that special. You have the option of adding cheese foam to any of your drinks, and also using a capped lid or traditional seal. My go to id the jasmine green tea unsweetened. I haven't seen any other tea shops in the OC that offer cheese foam. They also sell mochi donuts for 2 dollars each. My favorite is the black sesame, and matcha. However, I was disappointed by the Tiramisu Matcha cake I tried for my son's birthday. It was very dry, and the matcha powder stuck to my lips. It was not a good experience. I like that all the pastries are pre-wrapped. I was never a fan of breathing on my selection and stuff in the shelves before covid. Only three patrons in the store at a time, so be ready to wait outside. Green tea red bean cake: you taste mainly the red bean, the matcha is faint, but it's there if you close your eyes hard enough. I like the smooth texture of the airy cake, which is surprising because I normally hate air cakes. They used to have a crunchy matcha croissant, but wasn't available the last time I went. I love their taro cake bar too! Their taro filling is made with real taro, not from powder. You get actual pieces of the root you pay for in the filling Tuna croissant: my favorite! They do a really good job at keeping the tuna dry and flavorful. I hate having mayo with a hint of tuna. Garlic bread: they have a few to choose from, it's always worth it. Strawberry shortcake smoothie: limited seasonal drink: it taste exactly like the dessert. I would recommend half sugar or extra ice if you're not a fan of sugar bombs. Delicious bread with great deals always gets my attention! Sunmerry was never in my radar until I recently got invited to a Sunmerry Elite event. YAY! At that point I was getting sick of 185 F bakery and was excited about the prospect of another place I could get my carb fix. I was happy to discover the YEE location (GG) and this location both offered discounted day old breads. One was buy 5 get 1 free and another was Bogo! The selection on those breads are normally the regular breads but I'm into those things so it works out great! The most recent time I visited, they had bogo on sliced cake. So whatever normal sized cakes they had in their refrigerated displays, the bogo cakes were sliced up into 2 slices per container. It works out great for me because obviously the whole cake is too much and I don't mind them being a day old. I think it varies each time, but when I was there, they had strawberry, chocolate, a taro/pudding, and some other one. They were $9 each and bogo $4.50, Winner! I love me a good deal. Of the times I went to a sunmerry the selections weren't as vast as 185 F and some of the selections of the two bakeries are very similar. However, I will definitely come back to Sunmerry for the discounts. I wouldn't call myself a tree hugger, but I just hate seeing good food go to waste. I guess I'm just a food hugger. The taro/pudding cake I purchased was really good. The taro was chunky and the pudding had a nice toffee/caramely flavor to it. The only thing I disliked was the frosting wasn't a nice fluffy cream but more like a costco or alberstons sweet frosting. So if you're a food hugger aka cheap, this is The perfect place to alleviate the carb pangs. Plus they've got happy lemon on their side! read more

I would definitely order online in advance as the store has long lines ( due to limited people inside) and tend to have most popular items out of stock later on in the day. The happy lemon inside can tend to be bustling too and the poor male worker had to yell at the top of his lungs so people outside can hear their order so hope his manager gets him some cough drops. I feel like I went on an off time (Saturday afternoon) because I had gotten two taro mochi buns but they both kind of had an old cheddar cheese flavor to them instead of freshly baked bread/sweet and the taro paste was barely there. Due to the amount of people outside waiting for cake and drink orders and the sun, we just got a simple rectangular $10 cake. The matcha red bean cake is simple and yum, but not anything special. The matcha isn't too strong and there's very minimal fresh cream, but I liked how the red bean had beans in it so it wasn't just overpoweringly sweet paste. The mochi donut is a lot chewier compared to the ones sold at mochi nut, but the icing had a mostly white chocolate slight strawberry taste and the pearls were actually a nice touch to crunch on. I kind of appreciate how these ones were individually boxed instead of bagged for aesthetic. I feel like if I went on a less busy day ( weekday) and earlier the selections would've been tastier and a better experience, however their long time premade item ( such as the cake) were still decent so I would go again. I also saw them churn out a lot of fresh cakes, but unfortunately I felt there was too many people waiting outside :(. I like good Asian bakeries and I REALLY wanted to like this bakery. So much so I have visited this bakery several times and tried several things. But so far things I tried are all underwhelming. - The caramel pudding has texture, like it was frozen and thawed. The custard is separated. I know this because I have frozen custard pudding before, and it ends up just like what they have. - Nutella cream puffs are WAYYYY underfilled. The pastry shell is very dry due to lack of the filling. - I tried icebox cake-tiramisu and strawberry. They weren't good. The tiramisu doesn't taste like tiramisu. It taste like it was made with *fake* tiramisu filling mix, not real mascarpone. The cake part is fluffy but it's rubbery and dry. Summery is one of my go to bakery's in Irvine. I love their savory pastries. My go to are the chicken cheddar and their mushroom braid. The bakery is on the smaller side so sometimes only a few people are allowed at a time and there tends to be a line to get in. The staff is friendly and I really like that they always offer to toast my savory pastries so I get them nice and hot. Overall, it's a cute shop and I recommend giving them a try. read more

This review is solely for the Black Forest cake I got at summery! I think the cake was very beautifully decorated and I really enjoyed how it was the perfect amount of sweetness. Its biggest downfall was the overwhelming dryness from the sponge cake itself. Every other aspect of the cake felt very delicious and well done aside from the dryness. The decorations were nice and it was a delicious 6 inch cake for 33 dollars. I really appreciate the worker also giving me advice on which cake I should go for. One of my favorite bakery in Irvine, they provide delicious pastry and fresh drinks. I can't tell you how much I love their oo long milk tea with cheese foam. And they tend to change cute cup designs from time to time. I have to say I'm really impressive with the action they take during cov-19. They used to have self serve station to grab your own bread. Now they are wrapping all the bread in plastic ahead of time and they provide delivery service themselves. I love to follow them on Instagram to see the update for new things. The first time I did this was in Oct. 2021 for my dad's birthday & the second time was just this Wednesday for my mom's birthday. The cakes were divine, & what made this even better was just the way the staff communicated what they can do for the orders - extra candles, special greetings, etc. Only issue was not having the business provide local delivery! I unfortunately can't judge the taste of anything, but I came here and there were very few baked goods! 99% of the shelves were empty! Maybe I need to come in early because it was later in the day, or maybe it's because of the new year, but I was so sad to leave empty handed. I stopped by here to get a cake for an interview. I found the store to be smaller than my normal 85 degrees but it was nicely kept. 3 people at a time inside for covid precautions social distancing. They have plastic bags for customers to put their goodie breads in. The cashier just counts them with gloves on when you check out. I found there to be similar bread options to 85*. The cakes were nicely displayed and packaged quickly after placing my order. Service was great and everyone who worked there was friendly with a smile. Great place! read more

We got a birthday cake for a friend, the strawberry cream cake. Everyone at his birthday get-together said how good it was! It tasted yummy with a rich, not overly sweet frosting and jammy and creamy strawberry layers and looked beautiful. Our friends hosting the get-together inquired where I got the cake, so we may be tadked with picking up another one for their next get-together or holiday party! The cake even came with complimentary birthday candles, paper plates, and cute little forks atop its convenient carrying box! I was impressed by the staff's friendliness, because we had come in the day earlier just to see what's what, and the lady remembered us when we came back the next day to get a cake. It may not have a large cult following like big bakery chain 85 Degrees, but the pastries here are just as good. The drinks on the other hand... I think the standalone Happy Lemon locations I've been to are a bit better. Brioche - This is my all-time favorite! I don't think my batch was straight out of the oven, but the loaf was still super fresh and fluffy. Sunmerry doesn't bake it like a conventional French brioche, their style is much more milky and buttery. If I had to compare it to something, it would be a cross between Japanese White Bread and a King's Hawaiian roll. And I think it would still be softer than that. The crust on top is nicely baked and sweet. Nutella Cookie Bun - As someone who loves chocolatey things, this one sounded like it was going to be great. It was underwhelming. The nutella filling in mine was nonexistent, like eating bread with an empty center. The actual bun was tasty, and the chocolate chips on top were a nice touch. Cookies & Cream Mochi Doughnut - They keep their doughnuts in plastic containers inside refrigerated cases or regular glass displays. I knew it wasn't going to be as fresh, but still wanted to try one. Quality-wise, the consistency of the dough was on the hard side as expected. The Oreo-like glaze topping also had time to cool down and harden, which added a nice crunch to it. Overall it was just missing that sticky and chewy texture I'm used to at other mochi doughnut shops. Drinks - In addition to pastries, Summary also serves coffee, milk teas, lemon-flavored drinks, and salted cheese teas. I haven't tried their lattes or other coffee options and can't speak much on that. But looking at the rest of their menu, I would say only order if you're planning to get a salted cheese or speciality drink. Their milk tea series is limited, a hit or miss depending on the batch of boba you get, and on the weaker side when it comes to flavor. Didn't get to select a cake on this particular visit, but for the next special occasion I would consider getting one! read more

They have a refrigerated section of unique Asian flavor snacks such as boba infused cakes and what not. They offer happy lemon drinks here. My go to have to be their salted cheese jasmine green tea. Cute store and perfect location as it's by the 5. It has many stores conveniently located nearby as it's in a shopping center. There's lots of parking as I'm sure this plaza gets crowded. There's a good selection inside but I couldn't tell which ones I had liked from a friend gifting me some. It was a bit busy but not too crowded as it's still a small store front. Disappointed to report back that the other reviews about their taro cake are spot on. I took a gamble and gave it a try since my mother in law loves taro and I wanted to get it for her birthday! It was decorated very nicely but the taro pudding filling fell short of my expectations. The pudding layer had literal ice chips in it like it needed to "thaw"' and the taro was quite chunky and hard. I would Maybe come try back to try other stuff, but I wouldn't order the taro cake from here again! Try Nini bakery instead (in Rowland/hacienda heights area) for a bomb taro cake. read more

When I walked into this shop, I was really pleasantly surprised by the variety of products they sell. They sell pastries under the Sunmerry label, boba under the Happy Lemon label, and coffee under the Press Coffee & Tea label. It very much seems like a one stop shop I ordered one of their specialty drinks: Spanish Coffee (coffee with cinnamon and condensed milk) It had a large cinnamon flavor that reminded me a lot of Cinnamon Toast Crunch milk, or an Americanized Chai Latte. The consistency of the liquid also reminded me of a milk tea I'm not sure if I would try coffee here again, but I am definitely excited to try a boba drink or their pastries.
