I had really high expectations for Sunhee's because my friend had been hyping up the place. Going in I love the woody environment and ambiance of the place. Not too loud music and love how its family run. Service was great. Food wise I think if you prefer original flavors and home style cooking Sunhee's is good for you. Personally I like my stews more savory but overall I think the food was pretty good.

Upstate NY have a great restaurant. Order at the counter, go sit and the food will be in front of you quickly. Very nice staff and great food. The place is cozy and warm. Beautiful for a date or catching up with friends. Try the date tea. Delicious

Love it here! Im never in Troy but I was today and this menu had my name on it. I easily found street parking within 1 block and was told to seat myself; hostess suggested the coziest spot. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. I got the kimchi scallion pancake which was delicious but not too spicy. Also had the mandoo for $6?!?! So delicious and cheap. My lunch entree was the kimchi jjigae with pork belly and tofu. Cannot wait to return to have more of what I already ordered but also to try the other choices. Highly recommend!

Delicious! Always fresh. There is a reason they have been around as long as they have been. Check them out.

I think a sign of a good restaurant is when you first walk into the establishment, and you are amazed by the ambience it gives. The entrance opens you up to a small quaint bar with calm Korean music lightly playing in the background. Parts of the restaurant feel more like a home than they do a store. I'm not sure if it's always like this, but there were nice lights lining the walls as though ready for the holidays. You order at the counter, and you get your own water. I ordered the bulgogi bowl and some pickled radish to contrast the meat flavor. I can immediately taste the quality in the meat that they serve. It tastes clean and flavorful. The pickled radish, too, was very good. It had a perfect balance: it wasn't too sour, and it wasn't too bitter. Awesome gem of a restaurant.

Came here for Valentine's Day dinner. They had a pre-set dinner option. $52 per person. It may sound expensive but it was well worth it! The food here if phenomenal. It was so tasty and everything hit all the right notes! The service was great with no issues. The overall ambiance of the place is super cool! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal! Will return.

Passing through Troy at lunch time and decided to get a bite to eat. Looked up Sunhee's and the room seemed very nice from the photos on Yelp. We drove over and saw that it was a Korean restaurant, which made our tastebuds excited. We took a seat up front near the windows to take advantage of the sun spilling through. We dicided to split the Japchae, Bulgogi and the House chicken. All the dishes were wonderful (to eat as well as photograph)! The staff was also lovely and accommodating. We will return, for sure!

The first time my husband and I came here was to help our friends who, at the time, looking into catering for their wedding events. They had found Sunhee's and wanted to try them before committing to asking for catering by them for their engagement party in July. We basically got everything on the menu and everything was incredible. I felt like I was served food made by a Korean Grandma or Grandpa. During our dining here, we lived in the Boston, MA area and ended up considering the move to Troy, NY due to cheaper rent and Sunhee's (we kind of expected the food to not be great). We moved to the area months later and now we are a Kimchi Klub member and go to Sunhee's at least once a month. It's our go to place to bring friends and family to visit. I just want to be their friends too 100000% recommend! Please go here! I'll go with you! It's amazing! (pictures from some of the times we have gone this year)

I am so glad I discovered this spot! The ambiance is so peaceful and the food is fresh and delicious. The staff is always so friendly, welcoming and helpful. I love enjoying the sunshine, flowers, and the Japchae noodles!

This is a super cute little spot in Troy. Didn't know they had a back patio! Kind of hard to get to but what an amazing use of space. They really made it feel unique and special. I had the bibimbap bowl with tofu. Lots of interesting flavors and textures. I love that they source a lot locally. The kimchi does have fish/shrimp but you can ask for their vegan version! The hot sauce was incredible. Only small complaint is that it's a bit expensive for me to go regularly, but enjoyed it a lot. It's not a ton of food for $17ish, I was able to eat the whole thing and not feel totally full.

I was in my old neighborhood and wanted Korean as always and wanted to try this place since the reviews. The ambiance was great, totally different when you enter a Korean restaurant. We were seated right away and given our menus. Our server was attentive and took care of demanding needs ( which came from my sisters lol). We ordered (see pics) very small amount of food given for each meal, not a lunch special for the day , but an ordinary order. Majority, of Korean restaurants gave you Banchan but if you wanted that it cost you extra $12 dollars. Nope, we didn't do that. The food was ok.

    "Seafood" stew

Overpriced, and mediocre spot praying on people who dont know better. Spent 7 bucks on a can of beer and 16 dollars on "seafood" stew. Was promised calamari, mussels and shrimp and got 3 pieces of seafood the size of peas. You also get a "side" of kimchi the size of a disposable ketchup container with 2 pieces of kimchi. Save yourself the money and btw you're not gonna get a server.

What a cute place -but that is what you're paying for! The aesthetics, atmosphere and music are very easy on the eyes/ears. The food though, nothing special. The complimentary side dish (aka banchan) is sad - the amount was disappointing. When you think Korean cuisine, you think, "decent banchan", but not here! The amount of food for the rice bowl, also disappointing. Not worth the cost. Taste was nothing special. The non existence of seafood in the scallion pancakes was also very disappointing.

Does this place have high chairs?

I don't know if they high chairs but I would not call Sunhee a particularly toddler-friendly place. Most of the seating is bench style and you have to wait a while for your food.

(not too sure) The tofu soup I got was mild-lightly spicy and gosh it was the spiciest soup I've ever gotten and I usually eat this and other spicy foods perfectly fine! Wasn't the best for me. Alternatively the beef soup felt a bit bland but my friend liked it. Main complaint is not much beef in the soup and it tasted very tough. alternatively not much seafood either, just tiny small bits of cheap shrimps which were a bummer. Only good thing was the decent price and decent free side dishes (not many) of which only broccoli tasted good. Food took forever to come so side dishes were a life saver although they also were never refilled which at traditional places they are. Main thing: the service was quite bad... from the moment we walked in, we didn't feel welcome as no one welcomed us, dirty tables were everywhere (like in those video games you play to clean up), and we waited awhile at the counter looking at menus until someone greeted us with an attitude yelling that counter is only for to-go and we should've just sat down if we're dining in... she huffed and sat us down, surrounded by the dirty tables. We asked if we could sit elsewhere but as big as the restaurant was, she still said half of it was closed for dinner (I know other places do the same but they were kind enough to let us sit in that area when requested) and the reason why this time, was because we were literally sitting surrounded by dirty dishes all around us - which they never cleaned up the entire hour we dined here! Very unpleasant view-never have I ever! Even our current table was sticky. And the food and service took forever. She seemed very annoyed when we ordered and whenever we asked for water or refill side dishes and gave attitude like we obviously need to wait for her to appear and be free to even ask which she was rarely seen. I never saw her treat other customers like the same way she treated us, for them, she was very patient and kind and offered menu options and even personal talk. Seems like she doesn't like tourists, just regulars. Anyways she was rarely seen throughout the meal and so I just sucked up the not so good food and we finished and took awhile to get the check. That was the only point in the interaction she seemed to be present in the restaurant. Other times she was nowhere to be seen. When paying, she loudly exclaimed what do you want to tip? In an attitude saying that, we had to tip, and it had to be a sufficient amount otherwise she'd be upset - which she was because service was not good. Even when we left and said bye, she gave us no word back and just another one of those scowled looks. Only one lady working the front and she was barely present and not pleasant. Overall food really isn't bad but it isn't amazing either. If this cuisine is what you're craving go for it, it's fairly priced. I would support a small business. But don't expect a clean restaurant or friendly service - unless youre a regular or fits the server preferred demographic. Not the best experience for me. Whole heartedly believe if service was better this could be a solid place!

Not only did I feel welcomed, the food was also comforting. For two of my friends and I, we ordered four dishes. Everything came out quickly and almost all at once! We started with the seaweed salad which was fresh and crunchy. The tteok boki was an absolute highlight. Add gimmari (noodles wrapped in seaweed and deep fried) and cheese, you will not regret it! These were the perfect complement to the sweet and spicy sauces and chewy rice cakes. The Kalbi was the most delicious. Great sized pieces of meat that packed a punch with flavor. I love the pieces that had some fat and char. And the jjajangmyeon noodles were bouncy and coated with the black bean sauce. Every bite was better than the next. There's more parking in the back. It's a lot larger and homier than it looks on the outside. The Spring & Summer months are especially nice, they have little seedlings of starter plants on the pavement out front & a community cork board up front. There's a lot of selection of frozen mandoo (dumplings), Melona ice cream bars, fresh Kimchee, soft tofu, a small but fresh section of vegetables (chives, oyster mushrooms, napa cabbage, burdock root), LOTS of family packs of Instant Korean Ramen (Ramyun), a Back room of Korean Home Goods (decent prices, nice glass tupperware, the have THE green "Italian bath towel" scrubby mitts for $2.99!
