We stumbled upon this place on yelp on our way coming back from Adirondack and we usually find a place to eat before we head home! This place is as good as Chinatown in the NYC ! Everything we order was amazing ! We will continue coming back as long as they are open

I've been dying to try Taiwan Noodle and I finally got the chance! Since it's on Central Avenue, there's street parking, which was easy to find when I went on a Sunday afternoon. There were plenty of tables and we were sat immediately. We were surrounded by families enjoying lunch. Since it was my first time there, I wanted to try a few different things, so here's what we ordered: -Chicken Soup Dumplings -Chicken Shumai -Pork Buns -Spicy Pan Fried Dumplings I've had soup dumplings at several places so I knew what to expect. Unfortunately, there wasn't much broth in them but they were flavorful. The shumai was absolutely delicious. It had bits of corn and carrots on top, which was off putting at first, but boy were they tasty! The pork buns were delicious pillows of pork - highly recommend! Lastly, the Pan Fried spicy dumplings were just ok. I would order something different next time as they weren't super flavorful and not as spicy as I would've liked. The service was quick and I definitely will return to try more things!

We went there on weekend at 8 pm. No rsvp needed. We tried their famous dumpling which is just ok. We also tried traditional Taiwan dish which is pork with rice and covered with cheese. It was interesting. Won't try that again Service : so so

Got the sweet and sour rib and was very pleased. The meat was flavorful and tender and the sauce complimented both the meat and rice well. Appreciate the bok choy on the side as well, nice refreshing addition to the dish. The spicy wontons in chili oil were phenomenal as always, and you can never go wrong with shrimp shumai (be mindful of any dietary restriction: both of these have pork). The food was ready to pickup on time and was still hot even after going in 15 minutes laters and my 20 minute ride. Also first time I realized they have seating, the dining area is actually pretty neat. Nice bright lighting and ample seating, will definitely dine in sometime in the future.

This is a great fine... of all places in Albany... lol Wrapped up my business trip and met up with my son for dinner in Albany. We picked this spot for some "close" to home cooking... cuz the college kid was missing home cook meals. Nice owners, small business, cozy spot, with enough tables to fit a few parties of 4s, 2s... combo of each. Decor is simple and clean. They give you hot tea during the milder-colder months. We order quite a few dishes to try, but noticed other patrons opted for their noodle dishes - so put that on the list for next time. -salt & pepper wings (pretty good) -hot & sour dumplings (it's ok, good sauce) -salt & pepper fish (this was yummy!) -choy sum with fresh garlic (delish!) -Eggplant with pork belly in claypot (didn't hit) Overall, a really good meal and we would return when in the area! Moderately priced - didn't break the bank. #collegeyelping #sunyalbany #yelplife

Enjoyed a nice dim sum lunch here for Christmas. All of the food was very tasty, and we were so excited to dig in that I forgot to get photos of everything. The service was quick and everyone was very pleasant. We'll definitely be back to enjoy some other things on their menu.

Passing through on our way from Boston to Buffalo we decided to stop by Albany and pick this place to dine. From outside the place looks small and old, but to our surprise the inside is bright, clean and nice. Food is very good, we like all that we pick. Taiwanese rice pudding isn't a pudding, just gotta try it yourself. Dumplings taste great and the stewed beef chuck noodle is very good especially on a cold December rainy day. The beef chuck is very tender too. Service is great, very fast and very attentive.

We came on thanksgiving day and the staff was so friendly and the food was delicious! We were making a stop during a long car drive and we were thankful that this place was open! We got all 3 of the different hong kong baked rice dishes, a beef noodle soup and a spicy wonton. Everything was delicious and very homey. I particularly loved the beef noodle soup, just simple and comforting. Come Again? Yes! When I drive through albany again I will keep this place in mind!

Pretty happy to have found this solid mix of Cantonese, Shanghainese, and Taiwanese restaurant in Albany. No frills wontons, stewed beef chuck (tender and seasonings were deep!) and baked rice with pork chop. Very decent portion size and flavors, will definitely be back to try other items.

This is a hidden gem on Central Ave. The restaurant is small and quaint with framed newspapers highlighting their many accolades over the years. The staff are friendly and get you seated with water and drinks quickly. The menu offers a large assortment of various dishes that all sound as delicious as the next. The appetizers, though I didn't get one on this visit, are reasonably priced and delicious. I highly recommend the spicy potato salad, wood ear salad, or Taiwanese fried chicken. The dim sum is also very delicious! This time around I was only there for lunch, so I went with a fried rice dish with house style mixture. The pork chop was tender and delicious, the mushrooms flavorful, and the beef melts in your mouth. One of my favorite parts of any dish has to be the soy egg. It's always so flavorful and an excellent addition to any plate. Overall, this restaurant is perfect for anyone looking for some delicious Asian cuisine. I highly recommend getting a few friends together and stopping by. I've visited this restaurant a handful of times and never once was dissapointed!

This place has arguably more Hong Kong cuisine than Taiwanese - but it can satisfy your desire for both. Quite a decent spot in Albany with fairly authentic dishes. The crispy fried pork intestine (which I forgot to take a photo) is really good - cleaned very well and fried very crispy. Loved the sweet and sour pork and spicy wontons too.

This restaurant offers such a wide selection of authentic Taiwanese and Hong Kong dishes. Milk tea boba and Thai tea served in mason jars with were really good. Taiwanese fried chicken was excellent! They have great flavor in the chicken, tender on the inside and perfect crispy on the outside. Def get it as an appetizer. Taiwanese stewed beef noodles was excellent! Tasted homemade, beef was super tender and broth was light but tasty! The noodles were deliciously prepared. Good slurpable and soaked up the flavor of the beef broth! Deep fried pork intestines were nice and crispy. It's either you love it or hate it kind of food. I think they would taste even better with mustard or hoisin dipping sauce. Steamed pork ribs and Chinese sausage in steamed basket. They came out pretty good. Rice was fluffy and has soaked up the flavor of the pork ribs and Chinese lap cheung. Would have been even better to have some sweet soy sauce. Spicy wontons were the best!!! Homemade wontons with good flavor of pork and shrimps inside thin wrappers!!! Would get these again for sure! Excellent sautéed seasonal veggies, bok choy! So soooo good! Service was good. We sat for a long time to chat and the waiters came by to fill our tea and water. Also never rush us to pay or leave. Ambiance of the restaurant was causal. The neighborhood wasn't great. The restaurant nestled in a rough area of the town. But good they have a small lot designated for the restaurant customers.

Been here before but before we added a vegetarian to the family! Does their tofu noodle soup use vegetarian friendly broth?

It's an option, yes, and you should be asked when you order whether you want chicken or vegetable broth. If for any reason you're not, just ask for vegetable broth and you shall have it!

How well do the dumplings and pork buns reheat? I would love to get some to have for dinner tonight.

Should be fine, except for soup dumplings. Use a steamer or if in the microwave cover.

On my short list of Chinese restaurants to try was Ocean Palace, and thankfully, they picked up right away. This was our first visit, and we will probably be going back. There were quite a few customers, but the place has an airy feel that was quite comfortable. Lots of windows, comfortable tables, and a very calm feel to it. Staff here was great: attentive and friendly, and very accepting of my ridiculous enthusiasm for soup dumplings. :) We lived in NYC for 30+ years, and a considerable number of my dining out experiences were weekend mornings in Chinatown in Manhattan (sorry, no experience with Flushing). We've eaten a lot of dim sum over the years, so we started with a dim-sum-esque variety (the edamame dumplings in veg broth were very good, but the spring rolls were too oily), then my husband ordered baby bok choy and shitake mushrooms, beautifully presented and which he loved. But me? I ordered a *second* steamer of soup dumplings. Yes, my Thx dinner was almost entirely soup dumplings, and I'd do it again next year (don't tell my grandma). The soup in the dumpling and the meat filling were excellent. The *ONLY* quibble I have is that the wrapper was thick, almost doughy. The regular steamed vegetable dumplings had very thin wrappers, much more what I was expecting. The thickness made it much easier to get it into your spoon with chopsticks, but, again IMO, it put the proportions off. As is probably obvious, I'm neither a chef nor Chinese, or I'd have a much bigger frame of reference. There is also always a wide variety in how different families make their biscuits, etc. The food at Ocean Palace was not the best I've ever had, but it was very tasty, and though the soup dumplings were not perfect, I'd have them for lunch today again if I could.

Second, because the hard working chef is once again quietly exerting his authority with small acts of independence. He brought out my lunch special himself but declined to give me a dinner plate (needed because the serving entirely covers the oval plate it was delivering on) and, once again, my pork with pickled cabbage had no pickled cabbage. Touche, Peter. The regular customer ordered items I would never consider, like walnut shrimp and egg foo young. But I'm sure it was still great, as was my no-pickles pork, as is everything Peter cooks. The guy is a gem. And he looks to be in good health after that mystery hiatus so I hope he'll be around awhile.

It felt brutal as the wind pierced through my coat. Winter still had us in its icy grip even if the calendar said that Spring was only days away. I was alone and I was happy to take refuge in the warm restaurant with its welcoming decor. There are pretty Chinese lamps at each booth as you enter. In the back, the large round tables were filled with families who appeared to be throwing a party. The server told me I could sit wherever I'd like. I chose the first booth. I was only too happy to come in from the cold and sit. Oh, the bowl of soup that I ordered turned out to be a dream come true! It wasn't just any soup. It was the Wonton Noodle soup lunch special at Shining Rainbow on Central Ave. in Albany. The menu is in both English and Chinese. After looking at the description, I thought I had an option to add some meat to the soup. So I asked for some roast pork. After I placed the order, a young man from the kitchen staff actually came out to ask me what kind of noodles I wanted in my soup: skinny, medium or wide. He spoke to me in Chinese. I must have really confused the staff because a second staffer also followed him out and he asked me exactly the same question in English. I was really surprised. I said to them in (Mandarin) Chinese, " Don't you usually use the thin noodles for this soup? I'll take what's easiest for you to prepare." So I realized later--after they'd gone--that I didn't actually answer their questions. I must have added to their confusion but they were so very nice and polite. About 10 minutes later, a server returns with a huge steaming bowl of soup. I'm still so cold and when I see the steam rising in the distance from the soup bowl, I'm smiling. He places the soup in front of me. It's a thing of beauty. It also had vegetables that I didn't ask for, but that's not a bad thing. I took one look into the bowl and expressed my shock, "Wow. It's huge." The server looked satisfied and walked away. Underneath the roast pork and bright green veggies, there were thin noodles swimming in soup. It smelled divine. But there were no wontons. Should I say something? No. Because this meal looked perfect. Despite the confusion that I might have contributed to-- I wound up with what I really needed--a delicious and healthy hot meal. I almost finished it, too. The servers packed the rest up for me. When the bill came, I wondered what it would be. The lunch specials which are offered Monday- Saturday are just over $10. Almost $11. Sure enough, that's what they charged me. I gave them a large tip. I think $5 or $6. They were just so nice. Perhaps I looked so cold and pitiful. Whatever the reason, it was an awesome meal that didn't break the bank and I hope I can order it again sometime with or without wontons.

Honey Walnut Shrimp, Chicken Chestnut in a Pot (staff encouraged this items around the holidays instead of Chicken & Cashews - really good!), Beef with String Beans, Rice Cake with Pork & Capsella (tasty! Think chewy gnocchi tossed with a chopped leafy green. Slightly cilantro-like?), Shanghai curried vermicelli rice noodles, Lo Mein... Everything is great! Sleeper Hit is the appetizer Beef Shank in Soy Sauce ($11) - think finely shaved fall-apart roast beef with soy dipping sauce (a bit of grisle but collagen is healthy!) & House Aster Veggie Salad (not sure what this veg/herb is but it's light & fresh with bits of firm tofu). TV news broadcast dire predictions during every 24 hour news cycle. So of course, cooking and acquiring food while binging movies and TV shows on cable became the obvious means by which to deflect attention from the rising COVID body counts world-wide and dire predictions. High anxiety was the order of the day, and tippling, cooking, take outs and eating became a reliable means to blunt it. Between TV binging we continued our years long, fanatical search for Xiao Long Bao -- or anything Asian to cook of takeaway and eat TV-side. HU's is a small Chinese joint in Albany, near where we received our Covid vaccines, and a good 90 minute drive from our home. There was nothing that vaguely resembled a good Shanghainese take out joint any closer - so when we didn't care to cook Asian, we made the trip to Albany for takeaway. As it turns out, HU's makes some authentic and delicious soup dumplings, and other dim sum like shrimp har gow, perfectly seasoned sweet/sour soup and some very tasty Scallion pancakes and Peking style duck. It was well worth the 3 hour round trip to take away -- or even eat in. The restaurant enforced social distancing making the eat in experience feel safe and authentic. I dunno. It's been a while since our HU's excursions in 2021, but I think in hindsight the food is truly a solid 4 stars good. I can't get to 5 stars because I could not rate the service due to pandemic restrictions in restaurants. Service was diminished due to social distancing during Covid times - but the restaurant was sparkly clean everywhere we looked. I imagine the same is still true today. So if you find yourself craving Shanghainese when in Albany, NY - HU's is a solid choice. The fact that their food selection and quality was high during the worst pandemic in the last 100 years speaks volumes about HU's food cred. Top tip: Even though the dumpling skins are bit on the thick side, stick with XLB and dim sum. They are NY Chinatown worthy. The usual Cantonese dishes like egg foo young, chow fun and ribs are serviceable too.

Pulling up, I'll admit--I was a bit confused. From the outside, it looked more like an old-school diner than a ramen spot. But at that point, we were committed (and not about to turn back toward NYC), so we decided to give it a shot. I'm really glad we did. The interior is no-frills and a bit tight for a family of five, but the staff made it work and got us settled comfortably. We started with edamame, which was perfectly seasoned, and shrimp and vegetable gyoza that the kids absolutely devoured. I also grabbed a Sapporo to wash it all down--solid start. Then came the main event. We ordered a mix: chicken ramen, beef stew ramen, two tonkotsu with double chashu, and a red curry ramen. The only dish that didn't quite stand out was the chicken ramen--it wasn't bad, just not as flavorful as the others. The tonkotsu ramen? Total hit. Both of my kids demolished their bowls--nothing left behind. My wife went all in on the beef stew ramen and loved it so much it sparked a debate at the table about how it stacks up against some Manhattan spots. And then there was my dish--the red curry ramen. Shoutout to our waitress for the recommendation. It had the perfect balance of salt, savory depth, and heat. The broth was this vibrant, bright red that just looked incredible--and tasted even better. Easily one of the top three ramen bowls I've ever had. I had my doubts walking in, but don't make that mistake. This place is a hidden gem. My only knock on the place is the table size for a family of five. Service was great. Now I need more excuses to come up to Albany just to visit this place!

Upon entering, the girl behind the counter just stared at us. No greeting. No direction on where to sit. No smile. We assumed it was self seating so we found a booth. She came over, poured our waters, still said nothing. We had about 45 mins until the restaurant closed so I'm unsure of what the cold attitude was for, as there were still 4-5 other patrons there eating as well. My friend is a vegetarian and ordered the veggie dumplings, and I had the same but with meat. Once the plates arrived, the one set in front of me was green, and his not. I figured I would double check to make sure we had the correct ones - I didn't want him to end up eating the meat ones if it could be avoided. Sure enough, the plates were mixed up. Honestly seemed to be done purposefully because it's very clear they are 2 different orders. The texture was chewy/foamy and they also tasted like old grease. Disappointing but we still had soups to look forward to. Our ramen finally arrived and I was hoping it would be the redemption moment of the evening but it wasn't. It really lacked any depth of flavor. Again the meat was chewy instead of tender. More distracting was how we awkwardly felt rushed as the server was shutting off lights and music...again...with at least 15 mins until the kitchen closing time. She seemed annoyed we asked for to go containers. At no point did she check in with us, refill waters, or even crack any resemblance of a smile. I used to love this little spot when I was in college. It was cozy, delicious, inviting. Couldn't have had more of the opposite experience this time around! And for this reason I would not return. I will travel to Colonie for Kuma Ani for better food and MUCH better service. TLDR; this place is extremely overrated

It's not fancy, but there's a notice in the window indicating it's up to code. The people are super nice. I went online to order lunch specials. Curry chicken. Beef with vegetables. Together, they cost just over $16 including your choice of soda or soup. I have to admit, I thought the food would be Cantonese style, but was soon as I walked in the staff was speaking Mandarin with me. So then I immediately realized the curry chicken wasn't going to have any yummy potatoes, which is classic Cantonese. Too bad. Still, it was well cooked and presented. The beef dish featured a bunch of different types of cool mushrooms. Since I don't usually eat fried rice and that's the only type of rice they offer, I found the meals a bit heavy. I was better off eating less rather than more. They made lunch possible and I'm glad for that.
