I decided to try Toro for some tacos. The host and bartender were very nice and welcoming. I cannot say as much for the food. It was $47 for chicken thigh tacos, flan and a coke. But this meal would have been disappointing at any price. The tacos were inconsistent. My first taco the meat was shredded nicel, but the second and third had large chunks of meat in them. The chicken was very dry and almost without flavor. The rice and beans were decent. The flan tasted old and was way more firm than other flan I have had. For what seemed to be a more upscale establishment, especially for their pricing, I truly would have expected a much better meal. I took my order to go and after working a 12 hour shift I just didn't feel like driving back up there for a refund. read more

First of all, Toro! No one, and I mean no one, told y'all to be this much of a vibe inside this darn restaurant! The design of this place is so intentional and curated. It somehow manages to feel upscale while still being approachable and relaxed. Everything works together beautifully. The decor, the atmosphere, the energy. The design screams that it feels Bonita. I stopped by during happy hour and ordered the guacamole, the nachos, and a soft drink. Now look, I know. I KNOW! Who goes to happy hour at a brand-new restaurant and doesn't order one of the cocktails when they looked exceptionally good? Me, apparently. I'm on a fitness journey, so I stuck with a soft drink - and a ridiculous amount of chips that came with the guac and nachos. #DontJudgeMe The food was great, and the happy hour menu was definitely worth it. I walked over from a nearby hotel, but I did notice they have plenty of parking available. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was excellent. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the person who helped me at the bar, but they were fantastic. Apparently everything was so good that I completely forgot to take pictures, which honestly might be the highest compliment I can give. 10 out of 10. Definitely recommend. read more

Really nice staff bartender was super friendly lots of parking great restaurant and rest rooms just a overall nice place to gang out get a meal relax or do a bull shot . My salmon was perfectly done in amazing cream sauce it had a jalapeño that was roasted on top which I didn't try with all the salsa abd queso my limit was reached ; my burger half had birria tacos which were delicious too. He has had their 50 dollar lobster quesadilla; which he promised next time we see going to an event we will try ....because he said it was the best he's had. read more

Had brunch and it was amazing. The service was impeccable and so was the food. I will definitely return for both.

Came for Valentine's Day and had a lovely meal. The place was definitely busy given the holiday but staff were still very attentive and the food was great. Tried a few of the specialties for the holiday but the stars for us were the margaritas. Just a perfectly mixed cocktail that we could not rave more about. More of an upscale Mexican restaurant with some spins on traditional favorites. We will definitely be coming back for a regular date night or even their extensive brunch selections! read more

We came here for dinner after attending a graduation and the vibe was festive, service was timely, and presentation was good. But living in border states has ruined my ability to enjoy Mexican food that's just okay. Nothing we ordered was bad; I got the quesabirria and pineapple passion, and had a sip of The Earl. It was all pretty fine. But know that you're coming here not for the authenticity but rather for the experience, and it's a fun experience. I'd recommend the churro cart at the end of your meal! read more

Recently tore my ACL but wanted some Mexican food and this is our favorite place. Showed up with crutches and the hostess went out of her way to ensure we got a booth so I could elevate my leg. Incredibly kind and thoughtful of her, because we didn't even ask, she was kind enough to do this on her own. I always love the tacos, but they recently changed from blue corn tortillas, which were my favorite, to a different type, and they don't hold together as well (the entire taco falls apart). I shared this with our server (actually picked one up while she was standing at our table and she watched it fall apart in my hand)--and she responded with kindness, saying she would inform the kitchen, and I believed her. This place has great food and great drinks and we really love it. Plus it's part of the Prime family so you can get points for eating here and at their other restaurants. Five stars for treating me so well when I was injured! read more

Went here for the first time to celebrate my brother's birthday. The cocktails were good and so were the appetizers so we were looking forward to our meals. We received our meals and started eating. After the first couple of bites we ended up finding a pretty large piece of plastic inside of one of our salads. Our waitress never came back to check on us after we received our food so we ended up asking a different waitress for help. She went and grabbed the manager who came over and apologized and said he would get a new salad. After finding a piece of plastic inside your mouth after taking one of your first bites it spoils your appetite pretty quickly so we said no thank you and continued eating our meals. We then found out that we were missing multiple different items from our meals and again had to wait for someone to serve us. There wasn't many people there and we had a large party of 10 so we're hoping for our server to be more attentive. After all the issues all 10 of us lost our appetite and were hoping to receive the check and leave. It seemed that after we had an issue our server was upset with us for pointing out the issues, and did not want to serve us anymore so we ended up having to wait quite a while to even receive our check. I think the worst part for us was when we told the manager and server about the plastic inside our food they did not remove the plastic or the plate from our table and left it on the table for us to look at for the rest of our meals. With the price being expensive for most items, and the place being advertised as upscale dining it was very disappointing and not worth the time or money. I would not recommend coming here for meals. I would recommend going to the many other better restaurants in this area. read more

Such a cute place. Interior is modern and very well appointed. When I got here a little after 5 there was hardly anyone here but I came for happy hour. Sat at the bar. Bartender was very attentive and offered suggestions. I ordered the watermelon marg which was super refreshing and presented well. I ordered the happy hour chicken Drummies. And the queso fundido add chorizo. The queso was delish. Great blend of cheeses and super flavorful. The chicken drummies had good flavor and promise but they tasted like they were prepared a few days ago and we lukewarm at best. I did tell the bartender the feedback just so they knew. About 20 min later the mgr/ownercame by and apologized and said they took care of them for me. She offered me something else also I was already full but they def went above and beyond here to be sure I was good. It was appreciated for sure. While visiting I'll def come back. read more

My hubs and I had the pleasure of dining here, stopping for drinks and heavy hors d'œuvres. I'll be honest, we live in Saratoga where there are plenty of Mexican restaurants and most are quite good. Toro Cantina, in Albany, rates high on my list. The Classic Margarita was fresh and refreshing. I was delighted as some Mexican places pour a mix. I believe Toro's was authentic, made from scratch. We sampled Empanadas and mini Tacos. Chicken and meat. Crisp on the outside - the way they should be. Not too spicy for my tender tummy. Very good. The guacamole was fresh-made and also delicious. We'll be back ... and will bring friends! read more

Our server - Maeve - did a super job and was seriously friendly, knowledgeable, and had a wonderful personality. The food was delicious. My companion ordered a taco salad and it truly was GIGANTIC. I ordered a burrito and was one of the best I ever had. We ordered churros for dessert and they were so good we started eating them upon arrival- before I had a chance to get a photo. Date night: We decided to finally use a gift card we had to Toro. I was able to make a reservation online on opentable for 7pm on Saturday night, which I love! Arrived slightly early and checked in. Had to wait only a few minutes to get sat. Tables were small and chairs are hard wooden not comfortable, some have comfier armed chairs not sure how you get those. The tables are very veryyy close together, we were basically in the table nexts to us conversation it was very awkward. -half star . The tables were likely set up like that for Valentine's Day. The decor is very unique, a fake tree in the middle with an open concept. Definitely a couple places for great photos for your Instagrams to beef up your content (the most popular one is near the ladies bathroom). Bar is pretty big and chairs looked comfortable but again close together, chairs touching eachother. As we sat down we had been asked if we wanted chips and salsa, like of course!! We also added to get queso, it was tasteful, salsa is a traditional mild and chips are served slightly warm (see pictures). Ordered a pomegranate margarita, it was okay didn't really taste the tequila for $15. In my opinion wasn't worth the money. -half star . Birria for dinner see picture. Was really good, the braised beef cooked to perfection. The beef is served in flour tortillas, which by the time I ate the first two the third one got so soggy couldn't eat it like a taco. Another thing to keep in mind is they only give you a dinner napkin, which if you're eating with your hands aka tacos it got dirty quick. So suggestion: they really should give you paper napkins in addition. -half star . Chimichanga also ordered see picture. Was also good however it has a lot going on. A salad on the plate in addition to the rice and beans and the chimichanga. The chimichanga had peppers, onions, pork and cheese within it, in my opinion the peppers were really not needed within. The plate is overwhelming, I'd suggest putting the greens on the side or removing them totally. -half star . We decided to get dessert, churros ordered see picture. In addition to dessert we ordered an expresso martini and a coffee. They took a little while to arrive with the coffee but were very hot and delicious. I'd say it was a good meal nothing terribly specials. Our bill was about 120$. I'd go back if we had another gift card to use or if other people invited us to attend an outing. Our waitress was very nice and sweet and attentive. I didn't get her name though as she never really introduced herself. Only had asked if we had dined with them before which we had. I did notice they were wearing name tags though. The ambiance is casual trendy, the music was different and made me feel like we were in a club rather than a Mexican restaurant. The way people were dressed, was all over the place. I'd say if you're worried go with the casual look. They do have happy hour Monday through Thursday at the bar area 4pm-6pm I believe the sign said. read more

Service was amazing. Alaina was our waitress and she was so awesome - big smile along with a wonderful personality and very attentive. Recently, we went to Toro Cantina and had their 14-inch flour shell Giant Lobster quesadilla, and it was LOADED. They did not disappoint with the amount of lobster in it, and it was delicious. We arrived early for our reservation and we were able to be seating. They were busy for a fall Thursday night. The table was small and the chairs were not very comfortable and that's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. When we arrived they instantly brought out chips and salsa. The waitress asked if we had eaten there before and we said no. There was no follow up to that. Which was odd. Tacos were delicious. After a recent YELP event which was amazing, I just couldn't come home empty handed. On my way out I stopped at the greeter station and placed an order for take out. While I was seated on the couch in the waiting area I took in the decorations and thoughtful ambiance of the restaurant. I especially enjoyed the framed prints of ladies in sugar skull/ dia de los muertos costume. It wasn't very long before I was on my way home. The kitchen staff whipped up my meal in no time and I was on my way. I ordered the vegan chorizo tacos and small classic guacamole to go. The guacamole came with chips but I was hoping for complimentary salsa roja to come with the chips but it did not. The tacos were topped with vegan cheese and salsa verde. The meal was enjoyable but I was still in sticker shock as I dined on the chips and guacamole, $43.70 seemed like a lot for chips, 3 tacos, and a side of rice and beans to go. Don't get me wrong, the food was great and I was still very appreciative of the event that I had just attended but I will reserve meals at Toro for limited special events given the prices on the menu. read more

As this wasn't the first time I've gone here, it was probably the worst experience in terms of service. After our drinks and chips were served reasonably quickly, it took close to half an hour before the food came out. Besides this the waitress was very nice but a half hour wait is still a half hour wait. I ordered tacos and the chicken soup. My soup was good but my brother claimed his was the best he'd ever had which speaks for itself. His was the corn chowder. My tacos very much so fulfilled any craving hole that wasn't already fulfilled especially with the steak. My biggest problem with the experience was the fact that they "ran out of guacamole" I mean.. come on what kind of Mexican place doesn't have guacamole? I loved the decor which covered a large place, even in the bathroom. Especially the big bull in the front! With a few basic changes I think this place could improve significantly in the ratings. read more

We arrived on a Saturday for happy hour... a big mistake only on week days.. but this sure is a lovely place. So trendy, decorated lovely, very nice bartender where we sat. We ordered from the appetizer/salad section. My DH and I shared a taco salad $16.95 with added chicken + $5. Just scrumptious! Classic Quesadilla $14.95 with aioli dipping sauce + chicken $5 mm mm good and ask for chips and salsa they're free when you eat at the bar. Oh my Goodness I forgot the drinks... DH ordered Modelo when ordering a 2nd bartender had to change the keg and because we had to wait they gave it to him with no charge. I ordered sangria the first one was a bit to much seltzer. I told the server and she made the next one better. It was just ok try something different next time. Except for my sangria I was very pleased with this place will definitely come here again especially during happy hour.. prices were steep but quantities were ample. read more

Beautiful dining area. Art and decor were the first things that stood out. Freindly staff greeted us and took us to our table. Large spacious patio. Comfortable seating areas outside. Sun and shade are available. Needed a little help understanding the menu, but I had plenty of help with explaining what I was reading. We had a very friendly waitress who was right on top of everything. Guac, Queso, salsa, and chips were delicious. Zarape De Pato was very good also (never had duck before). The main dishes were huge. We had seven people ordering 6 different dishes, and everyone loved their food and had leftovers to take home. Cooked perfectly, everything was fresh and hot and presented well. Very flavorful meal at a reasonable price for what we got. It's definitely a pleasurable experience all around. Would recommend it if you would like an upscale mexican dining experience. We ordered a guacamole appetizer. I had a weird oil taste, and the flavoring was way off. The waitress told us that they do put oil in their guacamole, typically avocado oil, but perhaps they used a different oil this time (per the chef). This is an overpriced Mexican joint for rich people who are uncomfortable with walking into an authentic Mexican restaurant where words are misspelled on the menu. I paid near $30 for three chicken enchiladas. That's basic chicken wrapped in a flour tortilla for $30. It was not terrible but not great either for the crazy price. What made it worse was the poor waiter had a runny nose on full blast when he dropped off our chips and salsa. The snot rocket stretched from his nose to his waist (not an exaggeration). He wiped the booger with his hand and did not miss a beat. Gross!!! Will not return. read more

AWEFUL!!! the by far hands down worst experience. We went for our friends 50th birthday. Treating her to a night.. Well, we got treated to a waiter who looked like he was going to cry when he got sent to the big party table. Oh. well we ordered drinks, the birthday girl too - and then 15 minutes later was advised "SORRY BIRTHDAY GIRL THERE IS NO MINT YOU NEED TO GET A DIFFERENT DRINK". Then, when bringing the Margaritta's NO ICE! The whole picture, and none in our glasses, not even the water. Don't worry - he didn't. Then he eventually did come back with ONE glass of ice with his bare hand covering it as he casually fingered a couple ice cubes into people's cups around the table. **NO replacement drink.. NADA!!** Then I have an allergy - I advise no Onion, no Pico Delgallo at all.. comes out with both of those. He hems and haws and brings it back to the kitchen. by the time it came back out the rest of the party were done eating. A woman comes over in the middle of this and asks if our food is ok - UM NO!! AND DO YOU NOT SEE THE LACK OF ICE, BEVERAGES, AND Ms. IF YOU WERE AWARE OF THE FOOD ISSUE AND THE ALLERGY AFTER THE FACT........... MAYBE ACKNOWLEDGE IT. UNBELIEVEABLE caused a reaction which led to being sick all evening. $450 for 7 people to have a miserable experience. beyond disgusted **Follow up, a manager did call me back. She advised me that due to the fact we paid cash and not card there was nothing she could due. Yes, I was annoyed, Yes, I told her that her service is sub par and lacking. Her response. Don't come back here again, we DON'T want to work it out with you. Alrighty then. I see you lead your staff by example. read more

I have been to Toro a few times. It is tastefully decorated and a fun atmosphere. I usually go for dinner and have enjoyed each time. Service has been good. Today I decided to go for lunch with a friend. There was a lunch/brunch menu. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup for $13. I expected a hearty soup to be brought out. What I got was a spicy broth with 2 pieces of shredded chicken and a fourth of a cup of rice. There were no toppings on the "soup" just a tiny sprinkle of cilantro. It was incredibly disappointing. WOW. Food portions are huge, be sure you're ready to eat. We stumbled upon Toro Catina as we were looking for something new and different and we couldn't have been more excited. The place was full of fun, energy, and excitement for a Friday night. Not too long, no long waits, just a fun atmosphere with all the things you want at a Mexican restaurant. Our server was super attentive, keeping our water filled and ensuring we were enjoying the food. She was awesome and would be enough reason to come back, but the food was super solid. I'm not sure you can go wrong with salsa and chips, but these were super crunchy and tasty. Ones I would come back and get again, for sure. As for our meal, we got some items from the "special" menu; not sure how long they will be there, but they were definitely a highlight. The food is Definitely not worth the price. The ambiance was nice, but the food is mediocre

I want to like Toro but I always end up leaving thinking they fall short. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a fun vibe. I consider it more for special occasions than everyday dining since they charge a premium price and you really need reservations to dine there unless you want to wait an hour. I dont mind paying more if the food justifies it but there are more authentic places that charge less and give you more. We ordered drinks and an appetizer first. Our waitress was hesitant to take our dinner order at the same time because she wanted to make sure it didn't come out all together. Seemed kinda weird since most restaurants just fire the entrees when the app goes out but whatever. She came back a few minutes later with our drinks and took our dinner order. I got a pineapple mango agua fresca to drink, which was really good. After an average wait time our app of quesa birria came out. It consisted of 2 tacos and a small bowl of consommé for $16. (As a reference point, you can get 3 birria tacos for $13 at La Capital. Granted one is an old cab stand in Troy and the other is an upscale restaurant on Wolf Road.) Before I could even take my first bite, a second food runner came out with our chimichangas entree. I couldn't believe it. I almost told them to take it back to the kitchen. Our waitress came over and apologized but I feel like it probably wasn't her fault; more like a disorganized kitchen. I was kinda confused by the chimichanga because it was plated with a small salad which wasn't in the description at all. The menu listed all entrees as served with cilantro rice and black beans, which were not visible. As I cut into the chimichanga it was 90% rice and beans. Very disappointing for a $20 dish. At this point I thought we got someone else's order. We asked the waitress and she explained that for the chimichanga, the rice and beans are inside rather than on the side. They should really update the menu description to reflect that. If you care more about ambiance than authenticity you may enjoy it here but not even the service justifies the price in my opinion. read more

Used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant, with the best quesadillas, the recent menu change made all the menu items a lot more bland and their chipotle aioli used to be delicious now tastes watered down. For the price, I hoped for a little better flavor and more authenticity, but the food quality, ambiance, and service were great. I thought this place was a chain based on its location on Wolf Rd., but I guess it is actually local. We came in for a late lunch over the weekend, and the place was very quiet. We ordered some mocktails, which were lovely, and the salsa sampler. We had two orders of tacos (and a cheese quesadilla for the kid). The salsas were pretty good (as one who grew up on salsas in Austin, Texas), though mostly very mild. There wasn't a ton of variety. There was one unique one which was seemingly nut based. I actually preferred their house salsa that came with the chips over the sampler offerings. I guess it had some charred tomatoes or something in it, because it was a little bit more of a cooked salsa than a regular blender salsa fresca. Good, but you can't eat a ton of it because it starts to get cloying. (La Mexicana on State St. still wins the prize for best house salsa.) It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine coming from Texas, but it always feels strange to pay for salsa rather than just have a salsa bar where you can serve yourself. The skirt steak tacos were nice meat, very tender and probably aged, but it was oddly unseasoned. It came in blue corn tortillas which usually need to be slapped on the comal with some oil to be finished before being used as a taco. This tortilla was cold, which seems, inexplicably, to be a common mistake at upscale Mexican joints. The vegan chorizo tacos were a panic order. It was pretty good, but came in flour tortillas. (It says 50/50 tortilla on the lunch menu online, but I have never had one of those before and couldn't tell that it wasn't pure flour.) I think they were probably worried about the relatively wet chorizo filling causing a corn tortilla to rip and so didn't use corn. The were generous with the chorizo, but it was a bit much and kind of salty. All in all, I would have preferred to pack my own tacos. $14 feels pretty spendy for these. Between the two tacos, the kid's quesadilla, the salsa sampler, a lemonade, and two mocktails, we spent nearly $100 after tip. For the price, not sure I'd go back. It's nice to have some higher end Mexican around, but I expect a bit more out of it. Maybe we should have explored more of the menu, but I was kind of disappointed enough with the basics. 4 stars because the staff were awesome, they had good ingredients, and everything was up to a high standard even if it was different than mine. read more

Had lunch here the other day. The food was decent, we had the chicken tinga empanada and the taquitos as an appetizer. We ordered burrito bowls that were underwhelming (albeit gigantic) and the bill for three people came to a little over $145. This was two appetizers, three entrees, two margaritas (spicy marg is delicious). The worst part by far is the service, and this was no fault of the ONE PERSON that was working as a greeter, answering phones, being the only waiter. Throughout the entire lunch there was only one other party that was eating in the entire restaurant (of course with a screaming toddler lol). It begs the question: do people not eat here at lunch because the service is trash (especially relative to the prices) or is the restaurant grossly understaffed because people don't eat here at lunch. Either way, avoid Toro Cantina. The food is mediocre, the prices are high, and the service leaves A LOT to be desired. read more
