We had a really great experience here both times we came. My husband got the dos amigos both times and loves it! Great meal for anyone who is a fan of all the meats. I got the beef and bean nachos and the tacos and both were very good. The nachos were very generously sized, especially for the price. This was our first visit. Excellent service and the food/drinks were great. As soon as we sat down we were given tortilla chips and salsa. Had an early seating, 5:30 pm on a Sunday evening. Went with three toddlers and my husband. Ordered three mac and cheese with apple slices and 1 chicken nugget with fries for the kids. Mac and cheese, chicken nuggets and fries were stone cold. I ordered black bean soup. That also was cold. I ordered the avocado salad. El Patron located in a bright yellow building on Rt. In Burnt Hills is just amazing. The menu has your favorite Mexican options and delicious margaritas. The staff was attentive and friendly. The overly salted food was served so cold that it was clearly right out of the fridge. The staff was inattentive and it was nearly impossible to get their attention to ask that the food be heated. Honestly its hard to stop reviewing this place since its about 200 yards from my house. I like the chips, the salsa is a little watery for my taste, but the margaritas serve and are huge. This time I tried the spinach quesadilla and I think there was honestly too much spinach stuffed into it. At some point a huge chunk of spinach dislodged itself from the quesadilla and ended up stuck in my teeth. Probably wouldn't order that again, but my husband had the nachos and I helped clean his plate. The nachos are huge and their queso sauce here is so good. read more

Salsa was canned crushed tomatoes with a TON of garlic. When asked for hotter salsa waitress said "Oh, you want FRESH salsa?" (+$3.00). Well, duh, I would EXPECT that in a MEXICAN restaurant! Then nickel and dimed us for everything else that SHOULD be part of a meal - a spoonful of sour cream (+$3.00), a tiny bit (like three strokes on a grater) of cheese because there was hardly any on the meal (like mozzarella - not even Mexican - +$2.00), a few extra tortillas (+2.00, but I was expecting extra for that)... Margaritas were mediocre at best (cheap well tequila). Rice tasteless with no seasonings, beans were, well, just red beans. 2 meals + 2 watered down Margaritas + all the nickel/ diming + the tip came to $92 for lunch! My advice for trying a Mexican restaurant is go to the bar, taste their margaritas and chips/ salsa (ESPECIALLY the salsa). If they're good, the food likely is, too. Or just be sure and go to Fusion (for great Mexican and Italian) in Ballston Spa or El Mexicana (for the BEST Mexican around) in Saratoga instead. There, they bring you the BEST fresh-made salsa (all you want), a quesadilla (on the house), great Margaritas, delicious meals, a dessert (on the house) and a shot (on the house). Total for all this with tip was $82. Still pricey but worth every bit!! read more

I was very disappointed with our meal there last Saturday night. My daughter and her family were visiting and we wanted to go to a kid friendly restaurant. I had been to El Patron in Burnt Hills once before, and it was pretty good. My daughter ordered a dish with ground beef, and she got chicken instead. My husband got tacos and requested hard tacos and got soft tacos instead. I asked if they had flan for desert and the waitress said yes, but then she came back and said they were out of flan. But the best is yet to come . . . A couple of us ordered coffee and the waitress said they were out of coffee. I asked her can't you just make a fresh pot, but she said no, they literally were out of coffee! I swear I have never had that happen before in a restaurant. And it wasn't as though they were getting ready to close or anything. There is a lot of competition in the restaurant business, and it isn't cheap to go out to eat. I don't think we will be going back to El Patron anytime soon. read more

I am so excited for this latest restaurant edition to the Burnt Hills area. This was the second time we visited El Patron since its opening. It was so busy when we arrived, that there were cars parked on the lawn. We were nervous about getting a table, but we were seated within a minute. The dining room tables were rearranged since we last visited, and I think the new arrangement makes the best use of the space. The staff at El Patron is extremely hardworking. Usually restaurants wait for things to get dirty, and clean at the end of the night. Not here - everything was cleaned immediately. I would feel pretty comfortable eating off the floor. My family ordered two kids meals (hot dog with Mexican rice, quesadilla with goldfish), ala cart chicken quesadillas, chicken tacos, and a side of Mexican rice. We also ordered a pitcher of margaritas which was a tad on the pricy side (50 dollars), but delicious. We were presented with chips and salsa and had asked for a refill of chips. Initially we were told they were out of chips. It is my suggestion that they make sure they have chips in abundance - it is a Mexican restaurant! Some people come just for chips and margs! We did have to wait an hour for our food because it was so busy, so I think they felt bad and refilled our chips. The atmosphere at the restaurant is very lively: colorful and loud music. People can party and get a little rowdy with their friends because it's hard to hear over the music. Someone was celebrating a birthday and they got sung to and got to wear a big sombrero. Although the wait was long for the food, the taste made up for it. My family really enjoyed our visit(s) and will be sure to be back. I would suggest the restaurant do a family meal take out option like La Fiesta does in Clifton Park. They would make a killing with all the families in Burt Hills! read more

El Patron is new to Burnt Hills. I decided to give it a try. I have lived in CA & NM so I've eaten a great deal of Mexican food. That being said I was less than impressed with this food! I ordered a Taco salad, not a fan of their version of a Taco salad! It was in an eatable bowl placed in the bottom of a plastic takeout container, ok so far. The shell was swimming in a pool of liquid from the ground beef that was in the shell! The ground beef was placed in a layer in the bottom of the shell with lettuce on top of it. There was a glob of guacamole on top of that along with some sour cream. I couldn't find any cheese at first then I noticed it off to the side. Small portion of cheese I might add. There was no seasoning on the ground beef, just plain ole ground beef. No onions, very blah salad. I cut up some onion & added it, I also added some shredded cheese. Adding the salsa they gave me with some greasy chips helped to spice it up a bit. Didn't eat much of it, won't be ordering that again. Also got an order of sopapillas!? The problem is that they weren't sopapillas! Sopapillas are fried dough that puffs up into little pillows.You cut them in half or break them apart & pour honey in them. Their version was a flour tortilla cut in quarters, fried, dredged in cinnamon & sugar & drizzled with a lit bit of honey. I might give them another try, ordering something else of course! We loved El Patron! My husband dislikes spicy dishes, and the food was flavorful but not too spicy. The portions were perfect; guac, refried beans, rice, quesadillas and tacos all wonderful. Needs work. Ice tea made with City water undrinkable. Two wines on this NEW menu not available. The Pollo Poblano was drenched in Poblano Sauce, much too much! Rice and black beans bland and need spicing up, No Non alcoholic beer offered. Server we had needs training, although she was pleasant and sweet, but no very conversant in the English Language. It was my husband's birthday and the terrible iced tea totally ruined his meal. We were not once asked if everything was okay, and table was not cleared of wrappers from sugar and utensils. We will try again 6-12 months and hope things get better. The restaurant is usually packed and we went on a Thursday night and it was pretty full by 5:30 pn. read more
