Great Authentic Chinese. Best in downtown Albany. So many authentic plates to choose from. Seafood is fresh as well as the other proteins. Service is excellent. Inside is very classy and nice. Cool rotating serving platforms on some tables. They now deliver since the pandemic and continue to do so which is a plus. The delivery is very professional and sealed as can be seen in photo so you know there is no tampering of your food from delivery person. My fav chinese!.

They serve you tea as you sit down and the service is great. Their menu has a variety of food and their portions are really big. Their food is delicious too. They are usually busy but it's a very pleasant experience. Definitely recommend.

The neighborhood is not the best in Albany but the ambiance and food are unbelieving here. You got real authentic Chinese dishes that aren't take out crap and the prices (especially for the lunch specials) can't be beat. The waiters are very speedy and I've never had any issues with the service. I'm actually shocked that the average customer rating should be higher and I'd give at least a 4 star. Recently we went with the beef and string beans, garlic with chicken, and pan fried pork dumplings. You won't be disappointed here and have enough food on the plate!

Wow. It was great. I rarely have such an immediate reaction. It was every bit as wonderful as I hoped it would be. Almost too spicy. Makes your lips burn sort of spicy. At least, my face didn't break out in a sweat. For my taste, this was authentic Szechuan with just enough heat. It was a large portion. I had enough leftover for a meal the next day. I tried to plate the meal to do it justice even though it was takeout. This was my first visit to Shu. The interior looks nice. The woman at the counter was friendly. I'd heard a great deal about the restaurant. Trying to decide what to order on my next visit.

Updating my review of this place based upon two dishes: Bok choy with garlic and Home style tofu…read more(deep fried). Both were available with either white rice or brown rice. I opted for the brown rice. Funny how our palates change over time. When I was younger, I hated Brussel sprouts. Now, I love them. Same situation here. When I was younger, I would have said the bok choy with garlic was plain and boring. Now, I taste it as a more subtle dish. It is served in a broth, not the cloying sticky sauce that's usually made thicker by the addition of a corn starch/flour slurry. The broth allows for the flavor of the bok choy to shine. I'm guessing the dish was made with MSG as well. Nothing wrong with MSG, it is one of the ingredients which provides a savoriness or meatiness to a dish - umami. The bok choy was trying hard to be meaty. Also, the addition of sesame oil was evident at the end of a bite, the slight taste and whiff of sesame becoming more pronounced. Home style tofu - this was comforting and satisfying with a slight kick of spicy heat. It's like grandma hugged you and squeezed your cheek, for good measure. There was a corn starch slurry used in this dish but it sort of calls for it; it's a more substantial protein rich dish. I honestly didn't miss meat at all when eating this meal. The dishes provided today proved to me that the cooks at Shu Chinese can do subtle...and they can do spice (mala). I'll definitely be back for more.

On my short list of Chinese restaurants to try was Ocean Palace, and thankfully, they picked up right away. This was our first visit, and we will probably be going back. There were quite a few customers, but the place has an airy feel that was quite comfortable. Lots of windows, comfortable tables, and a very calm feel to it. Staff here was great: attentive and friendly, and very accepting of my ridiculous enthusiasm for soup dumplings. :) We lived in NYC for 30+ years, and a considerable number of my dining out experiences were weekend mornings in Chinatown in Manhattan (sorry, no experience with Flushing). We've eaten a lot of dim sum over the years, so we started with a dim-sum-esque variety (the edamame dumplings in veg broth were very good, but the spring rolls were too oily), then my husband ordered baby bok choy and shitake mushrooms, beautifully presented and which he loved. But me? I ordered a *second* steamer of soup dumplings. Yes, my Thx dinner was almost entirely soup dumplings, and I'd do it again next year (don't tell my grandma). The soup in the dumpling and the meat filling were excellent. The *ONLY* quibble I have is that the wrapper was thick, almost doughy. The regular steamed vegetable dumplings had very thin wrappers, much more what I was expecting. The thickness made it much easier to get it into your spoon with chopsticks, but, again IMO, it put the proportions off. As is probably obvious, I'm neither a chef nor Chinese, or I'd have a much bigger frame of reference. There is also always a wide variety in how different families make their biscuits, etc. The food at Ocean Palace was not the best I've ever had, but it was very tasty, and though the soup dumplings were not perfect, I'd have them for lunch today again if I could.

Second, because the hard working chef is once again quietly exerting his authority with small acts of independence. He brought out my lunch special himself but declined to give me a dinner plate (needed because the serving entirely covers the oval plate it was delivering on) and, once again, my pork with pickled cabbage had no pickled cabbage. Touche, Peter. The regular customer ordered items I would never consider, like walnut shrimp and egg foo young. But I'm sure it was still great, as was my no-pickles pork, as is everything Peter cooks. The guy is a gem. And he looks to be in good health after that mystery hiatus so I hope he'll be around awhile.

Dishes we ordered and devoured: Steamed as well as as fried Pork and cabbage dumplings: Plump, not doughy, delectable. The youngest got some pineapple chicken ting that she devoured. Daughter ordered Beef & Broccoli and a rice noodle dish with chicken. The broccoli was tasting, the noodles were not over cooked, the plate was cleaned by 3 at the table. Grandson ordered General Tsaos chicken. Looked good, he ate 90% of it. Thy other Grandmom and myself ordered the Eggplant with minced pork, stir fried cabbage and Mapo Tofu. INCREDIBLE. Honey Walnut Shrimp, Chicken Chestnut in a Pot (staff encouraged this items around the holidays instead of Chicken & Cashews - really good!), Beef with String Beans, Rice Cake with Pork & Capsella (tasty! Crispy pork pastry looks nothing like the picture - it was a dry pastry and the filling lacked flavor. Spicy minced pork noodle also did not look like the picture, was not spicy, flavor profile was that of lo mein but it was worse. Pea shoots were ok. Walnut shrimp was overly mayo heavy, with most of the sweetness coming from candied pecans. Dry spiced fried chicken was not crispy, but flavor was decent although it was light on sichuan peppercorn. Shanghainese dough was served warm and also lacked flavor, unlike any version of this dish I've had in the past. The dish they forgot were XLB.
