I wish we would have read the reviews before eating here. We ordered General Tso's and sweet and sour chicken for our entrees. The General Tso's tasted like it was dipped in soy sauce instead of that thick, sticky sauce that's normally associated with it. The chicken for both entrees was tough, wet and tasted like sulfur. The rice was hard and will hurt your teeth with each bite. Tables were dirty. Server was great, but definitely wouldn't come back here. We are regulars at Rivers Casino and have pretty much tried all the restaurants within it. For a nice eat-in experience Mian is a great choice. Our dinner last night was nothing short of excellent due to the first class service and delicious meal. The portions are quite generous and prices fairly reasonable given the quality and quantity of the food. Can it be loud, yes but you are in a casino so it should be expected. Had dinner with a friend. Like others said, I had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. I had chow fun and my friend had general's chicken. We were both very pleased with our meals and would have again. We also ordered wonton soup which was a disappointment. The wontons were good but the broth was weak and tasteless. Way too much broccoli and no other veggies or thin strips of pork I'm used to. The seating area is quite small but we were seated immediately. They could have a wait during prime time. After several years, I finally decided to go to Rivers Casino where Mian is located. When I arrived at Rivers, I was quite hungry and was in the mood for some Chinese food. So I decided to give Mian a try. Being honest, I didn't have high expectations for Mian as I thought it would just taste like a food court Chinese restaurant, but I was wrong, To elaborate, I ordered sesame chicken with fried rice and it was very good. To put into perspective, the sesame chicken was hot and juicy and the sauce was tangy with great flavor. It honestly tasted like sesame chicken from a Chinese restaurant and not a casino restaurant. Additionally, the fried rice was excellent. The rice was cooked perfectly and they added fried egg to it which I absolutely love. Recently ate here before a show at Rivers Casino. I hadn't been to the casino since a little after it opened so I was surprised to see how small the actual restaurant was. The service was friendly and fast, maybe a little too fast as our dinners arrived before we were done with our appetizers. I ordered the chicken and broccoli. My husband ordered the general tso's. The food I would classify as fine, certainly above food court Chinese but about the same level as take out Chinese. You may be thinking what do you expect, you're at a casino in Schenectady. If I ever were to eat there again, I would maybe get the chicken and broccoli again. The general tso's I would not. My husband and I both agreed it tasted weird. Best Chinese food in Capital Area. Wouldn't eat Chinese anywhere else, maybe Sparx, but they're overpriced and not as good as Mian, I go there once in a while for a change. I don't gamble, walk right by the slots and go to the good stuff. Pepper steak and Mongolian beef are some of the best dishes I've had anywhere and I've lived across the country and eaten Chinese in other countries also. Some of their dishes aren't the best but for the most part everything is top notch, clean and fresh. Shocked this place is in a casino of all places to be located. Service is good, waitresses are friendly, but I only do takeout so I can't comment on eat in experience. Prices are higher than cheap Chinese but worth it. All around, a great restaurant, especially compared to what's around the capital district. I'm very picky and they deliver here. read more

You really don't expect amazing food when you visit a casino restaurant 20 minutes before closing, but we were really pleasantly surprised at Mian. First of all, you will be getting Americanized Chinese food, but that's ok! The portions are shockingly big for the prices and everything was really tasty. The Wonton soup was a highlight with great broth and they didn't skimp on the wontons. Service was friendly and prompt. It may only be just over two months since Mian opened in Rivers Casino but a number of things have already changed. Some for the better. The first noticeable change is the menu. While it appears that an additional 22 items have been added to the menu, a lot of it is simply the addition of varying protein choices to preparations that were already offered. For example, the previous single listing of Pad Thai Noodles with chicken and shrimp ($16) has been replaced by Pad Thai Noodles varying in price from $10 to $14 depending upon your choice of Vegetable, Chicken, Roasted Pork, Beef, or Shrimp. However, the addition of the Side Dishes, Kimchi ($3), Chinese-Style Cucumber Salad ($4), and Fresh Vegetables with Oyster Sauce ($5), are totally new. All menu items are now also printed in both English and Chinese. The next noticeable change was that place settings now include a metal fork. They still have paper napkins and wooden chopsticks in sealed paper sleeves, but gone are the plastic forks, knives, and the chintzy plastic to-go Asian soup spoons having been replaced by the traditional, sturdy and full-sized ceramic Asian soup spoons. You still will have to ask for a knife if you believe you need one, and if you ask for a glass to drink your bottle of beer from they only have plastic cups. Our bottles of Sapporo and Tsing Tao were the unique price of $5.56 each. The kitchen now has two Asian chefs. Our first visit did not have anyone cooking that looked like they were Asian. So how do all these changes impact the food? My wife ordered the Vietnamese Pho (Beef) ($12) since the revised menu no longer listed Chicken Pho. Her Pho came with several thin slices of beef and the traditional bean sprouts, lime wedge and slices of jalapeño served on the side. There was no basil leaf however, and she did have to ask our friendly server for the hot and sweet sauces to add to the pho. Our server promptly brought over squeeze bottles of Sriracha and hoisin. Once again, there was an ample amount of noodles in the pho, but the broth still lacked a richness that is a hallmark of an outstanding pho. I decided to try the Kung Pao with roasted pork ($12). It was a very colorful preparation with carrots, mushrooms, celery, red and green peppers, baby corn, Chinese cabbage, lots of peanuts, and served with a goodly portion of white rice. The diced pork was not very tender and most of the pieces lacked flavor. What flavor obtained from the dish came from the very slightly spicy sauce that glistened on the vegetables. If you have a Rush Rewards membership card, you can use it to receive a discount at any of the restaurants in the casino. If you acquire points on your card from gambling, you can use those points toward paying your restaurant bill. read more

We visited Mian on a busy weekend night and we were seated quickly and immediately brought out menus, wonton strips and sauce. The sauce is very spicy but didn't taste bad. One member of my party had wanted an extra plate for her strips, but this wasn't given to us. We ordered orange chicken and chicken with broccoli. Unfortunately, the meals were very underwhelming. Both the white and the brown rice were undercooked, the sauce in the orange chicken was too sweet and there was too much sauce in the dish, and the chicken in the chicken and broccoli had a weird taste. Our request to replace the rice was either ignored or not heard by our server. Several hours after our meal, at least two members of my party had severe indigestion. While service was fast and generally courteous, this establishment is a really disappointing one in a casino filled with good options. I will not be back to Mian. read more

Went to Mian at Rivers Casino on a whim with a couple of friends before country night and I ordered pad Thai beef because I usually enjoy it at other Oriental restaurant with no complaint until now..... Mian's chef's version came out slimey .....noodles overcooked, sauce oily mess , no chopped peanuts with globs of egg intermixed.....if this is the best the chef's can do, G-d help the poor customer that pays premium prices for slop like this. I paid my bill but I was left with a bad taste in my mouth.....couldn't and wouldn't finish after a few mouthfuls......yuck!! read more

Went to the casino for New Years Eve and tried to get reservations at Duke but failed so we decided to just stop by this place. We knew it would be busy given the circumstances but didnt think we would have experienced the lack of attentiveness. We walked in to see if I can sit at one of the tables that were available (wasnt as busy as there wasnt a line for tables. They were taking care of a take out order so I patiently waited. After he left I still patiently waited while 2 workers were just standing around. Finally one asked if I was ordering takeout and I said no I want a table. She pointed to a table and said have a seat. We sat down...and after 15 minutes of waiting for a menu someone came up and asked if we ordered yet. I said we need a menu before that. She was nice and apologized. We got a menu and then after another 15 minutes she came back to see what we wanted. Food came quickly and was very basic and the fried rice was tasteless. Waitress noticed asked if we needed utensils (like that needed to be a question) of which we replied yes and also asked for napkins. We then waited for the bill but ended up just going up to the takeout ordering area to ask for the bill and pay. Again...I know they "seemed" busy but it only takes a few seconds to drop off a menu and at least seem attentive to the customers. Will not go back. read more

I visited Mian for dinner prior to hitting the tables. The restaurant was busy, and at the time, only one server was working, so I seated myself at a single table. The server had a great attitude despite the busy time of day and took my order after a brief delay. I tried something I hadn't had before - pad Thai with shrimp. The order was prepared quite quickly (about five minutes ). The food was very flavorful, hot, fresh, and all the ingredients were of very good quality. The portion size was generous. I had the Pho last night and feel that the 2 stars is being generous, the broth was just barely acceptable but noodles were too soft and the beef was tough, and there is no excuse for that, either you serve tender thin sliced raw beef which cooks in the hot broth or you serve tender well cooked tougher cuts but not..... chewy tough beef like they did. The soup was also served in a shallow 2" deep take out style container instead of a bowl. After eating Pho for years I can say this one won't be repeated. Terrible experience. 1 star for the hostess and manager. No stars for the lazy snotty servers. 1) the wait was a little long because it was small which I understand. The manager busted our table and we sat down. Server came up and was rude when we began asking what they had to drink, seeing as how it was not on the menu. Finally got our drinks and ordered our food. Watched for about 15 minutes the host running food, putting together take outs, busting tables, greeting guests while the servers just stared at her. UGH! 20 minutes in, no appetizer, then the guests next to us began to get upset. They asked for their food and the server , no crap, told them I dont know what to tell you. They only put 2 cooks on. I dont know when your foods coming out. Then went back to fixing napkins. She never even talked to her manager. Just rolled her eyes at them! ABout 35 minutes in, without even an appetizer at our table, mind you the server didn't try to talk to us, but stood around for most of it while the other server was at her table bragging about how much of a b!+@# she was and basically talking trash about her co worker. Mind you NEITHER server checked on us. I asked about my appetizer and she got really snotty with me. I got so frustrated I finally just asked to talk to the manager. I'm a server and I'm really patient especially knowing how busy a restaurant can get, I would NEVER talk to my guests the way she talked to me. The manager apologized and 40 minutes later I got my appetizer. Mind you I watched 3 people order 2go, pay, and receive their orders before us. Finally our food came out... which is not Chinese. The pad thai was over cooked and poorly seasoned. The lo mein was overcooked and had NO seasoning but the beef and broccoli was meh at best. There is NO communication going on in this restaurant. The servers can't even do basic bussing. Tables sat forever while they PLAYED WITH CHOPSTICKS. The manager checked back in with us until I asked for the check. I never leave without tipping but I promise you, she DID NOT earn the tip I left. Here's some tips. Wipe your booths so people aren't sitting in rice. Teach your servers basic skills like prebussing and table touches and curb that I can be as unprofessional as I want behavior because that shouldn't fly. If your so proud of the fact you've been there since it opened server girl then you should take pride in it not disrespect it. Shame on both of the servers.
