Sundancer was a breath of fresh air after the flop of an experience we had close by at The Oasis complex. We wanted pretty views (which, of course, we got), decent food, and a drink after being so disappointed by the couple of restaurants at The Oasis area. What we were met with exceeded our hopes. First, service. Boon was our server and we loved him. He was upbeat and friendly, got us everything we asked for, and great at upselling drinks without being pushy. The boy who sat us and was bussing tables was sweet as well. Second, food and drink. The jerk chicken plate was enough food to have leftovers and full of flavor. My husband got the chicken and waffles and the chicken was fried to absolute perfection. They also included a honey cinnamon butter that would put roadhouse to shame. The Mexican martini was yummy and strong. Lastly, ambiance. The place is a dive, but not in a bad way. In a comforting way. Did I see a guy not wearing shoes? Allegedly! I didn't even care because the vibes were good. Everyone was as easy going as the alternative rock pumping from a radio speaker in the corner. This was the kind of place I'd love to be a regular at. This is a restaurant that is by the lake on Stewart Rd. Beautiful scenery very nice decorated and very much a hotspot for the locals who have their boats parked so they could come in and have a nice meal. I entered the restaurant and I was seated immediately through the host it was rather warm inside because it was a very hot day. I was seated and started to look through the menu. So the first thing I ordered was the basic Margarita on the rocks with salt around the rim. First entry was the regular Hamburger with cheese which in fact had a side of coleslaw which I ordered as a side dish. The hamburger itself had plenty of onions and just pickles tomatoes which was pretty large and the price was perfect this is what I loved about this place the prices are awesome. Today they had the all you can eat catfish. Who wouldn't want that the only problem is .. I was craving a 'hamburger and I also ordered a side dish, which was a Chicken Fried tenders with French fries I ordered the smaller version the child's plate and if you have children I totally recommend this cool, restaurant. Service was wonderful the waitress was very kind and always stop by my table was very attentive that was a major plus. They also had a new waiter who missed the mark never looked at my table because he was taking on the section. So I had to wave him down quite a few times just so he can give me some attention especially napkins they forgotten napkins when they serve me my dessert which was the bread pudding and ice cream it was absolutely delicious, really have to try this place because it is a very good restaurant number one " it is a little more pricey, than most because it's by the lake I assume you're paying for that and the views. The drinks were" okay I really wasn't thinking that my 'Margarita was anything but a Margarita and nothing special. But overall I really enjoyed my dinner here and people are very nice but because it's on the lake and we've had a high heat index here by the lake the restaurant is very warm. Next time I come back I hope the weather will be better and not too hot. So happy yelping I hope this review helps a lot of you who love to have dinner or even breakfast they even have breakfast here. I hate writing negative reviews but what the heck is this place's problem?? As others have stated, the service is terrible. We came in at 3:30 on a Saturday and there was only a table of 6 and a table of 2 sitting inside. There was no host to seat us, so we asked a server if we seat ourselves. They just replied "yeah", kept walking by, and didn't even stop to greet us. After sitting at the one clean table available, we waited 5 minutes and still hadn't been greeted. There were bartenders and servers literally standing around this empty restaurant, but nobody could be bothered to stop by and offer us a water or a menu. We straight up left and nobody even noticed....in an empty restaurant. Such a shame because this place is so cute. read more

We waited 45 minutes at our table before flagging down a passing waiter, who seemed surprised that nobody had approached us. Then another long wait. Finally they brought our food, and did not ask if we needed anything else at that time or during the rest of the meal. The location is beautiful, and we were visiting from California/Houston. The blue water around the restaurant was a pretty sight. Free parking is available, but I am sure it's better to visit at night in the summer. We were 4 people, and after hiking, we were, I mean, hungry. They welcomed us and took us to the corner of the room, where families occupied a few tables. Since the tables were so close together, we just got up and told them we would sit outdoors. I was wondering why they insist on using only one side of the indoor dining room, since the rest of the room was empty. The outdoors were not that crowded. A family with their cute pets was enjoying the food and conversation. Thank God it was a nice breezy day. It was kind of a late lunch/early dinner time, so we decided to try a few things. Since we have never been to this place, our server recommended a few things. I was craving a burger and salad. Please take a look at the pictures. The food was not bad, and the service was very attentive. We ordered dessert with ice cream and enjoyed the ice cream more than the actual dessert. At the end, one of us went to the bathroom and came out fast, and said, " Don't use the bathroom. It's very dirty. That was sad. We took two hours to get here, and now we need to find another place to use the bathroom and wash our hands. So are we going back? I don't know. Front desk help was ok, could be friendlier. Cool spot right on the lake! The food was good, (really liked the Thai chicken lettuce wraps and pork/fried avocado tacos) but the speed and attentiveness of the service ruined the experience. We came here because of the great reviews and the views, so we were really looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. We ordered the wings, firecracker shrimp, chicken chimichangas, and crab hush puppies. Everything except the wings arrived cold. I don't believe this was the kitchen's fault as the food appeared to have been sitting for quite some time before making it to our table. There were about six waiters working, but rather than checking on guests, they spent the time congregating and chatting. We waited a long time for our food, and our waitress never checked on us after taking our order until she brought the food. The experience could have been completely different if the food was served hot and with more attentive service. This restaurant is a great place to dine but it has some problems. Today when I got there at 9 AM, I went to the back porch because I had my dog with me. Their back door was locked and while I could see people in there, no one came outside. Finally at 9:07 I called them to let them know that the door was locked AND they had a customer. Their response was that you should have come in the front. As I explained I had a dog and was previously told to go to the back. So the waiter comes out, no apology for the door not being open and brings me a tea that I ordered. When I asked if it was a sweet tea, he said "We don't have sweet tea". Really? in Texas? In the summer? So I asked if they had sugar and he said "Yes, I will bring it" as if that was an imposition. After the food was delivered and he asked if everything was ok I asked for some salt and pepper which also was also no where to be found. Here are my thoughts: The door should be unlocked at 9 AM regardless as to whether they see someone out there. The sugar and salt/pepper should be put out then at 9 AM. The staff acts like your being there is an imposition on their young person's time. Retrain the staff and put them on a performance improvement plan. The next step should be firing them if there is no improvement and they get any more Yelp reviews like this. Put bluntly, the wait staff is hurting the brand. This is turning into a Door Dash only place. Last note-the food was great! read more

After being seated, the waitress took our water order and after a 25 minute wait and NO WATERS, we decided to walkout. We couldn't imagine how long of a wait it would've been had we ordered food. And lastly, they were not very dog friendly with my dad's service dog we had with us. Quote from SDG, "You can't have dog's here." I almost hate to write how good the brunch was as one of the things I love is quaint lakeside place with no crowds and laid back atmosphere, however, I will share. Sundancer has a current promotion on Saturday brunch of buy one get one free before 11am. Shaylah recommended the shrimp & grits which I ordered, my husband got the Belgian waffles. Shrimp and grits is big enough to share, it had a good kick and I loved the combination of andouille sausage and fried okra with fresh mix of stir fried peppers, celery and such. Poached eggs were cooked perfectly and ran into grits and sauce...yummy. My husband's waffles were stacked with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. He said they were tasty...like eating dessert. First, I should note that my family has loved Sundancer Grill for about two decades. Also, we had four star service yesterday. However the food was shockingly bad. The crab hush puppies and lemon slaw used to be unique and amazing. Now they are straight off the Sysco truck. No idea what the chef is trying to achieve with the so-called blackened catfish, which has a burned paste coating. It's certainly unique and not in a good way. They fried catfish fillets are so thin as to be more batter than catfish. The only edible version is grilled, which, was honestly quite good. The only really good item we had was the green beans, which are fresh and well seasoned and amazing. I hope they will return to some of the original recipes that made this place special. read more

We love Sundancer grill. Been going for many years. In observance of Lent we ventured here for fried pickles, crab hush puppies, fried catfish and shrimp. All outstanding in the past! Something has changed to our displeasure. The cornmeal breading simply falls away from the catfish and shrimp, causing us to scoop up the breading to eat along with the catfish and shrimp. Last week our local church in Lakeway had a catfish fry that was cooked by Knights of Columbus volunteers and the cornmeal breading adhered to the fish. Look, I'm not complaining as I love Sundancer, but please try and get it right next time because we will be back. Next Friday though, I'm going to church for my fish. Love you guys..... read more

What a great surprise. My first time here and you know, it's really good. Late Saturday lunch crowd (4pm) watching The Masters, a few tables going with food, and friendly employees. Nice view - will be nicer when the lake fills up again someday. Easy parking. The biggest hit: the crab hush puppy Caesar salad. Wow. The hush puppies are fantastic, and are much closer to crab cakes. I suspect they'd double their sales if they just called this a crab cake Caesar. Disgusting. Our food came out and the FLIES swarmed immediately. When an indoor restaurant brings a fly fan to your table you must question why that would be. There were so many flies even with the fly fan. After eating about half my meal I realized that there was a dead one on my plate. Look at the inspection report. FLIES. We stopped by Sundancer Grill recently after a sailing for the day on Lake Travis. The restaurant is located at Sail and Ski Yacht Club. But, don't be fooled, this isn't your typical lakeside restaurant! You can get there by car or boat. The restaurant has a courtesy dock located behind the restaurant. If you boat in, be aware of the shallow water! Logan waited on us during our visit, and his service was great ... attentive, but not overbearing! Thanks Logan, well done! We started off with a couple of appetizers, the ceviche and the fried avocado wedges. The ceviche was perfectly prepared, and featured tilapia, mango and citrus, well-balanced, with a little heat provided by diced jalapeno. The ceviche is served with seasoned tortilla chips, very tasty and sturdy enough to hold a pile of ceviche. Delicious... We weren't as thrilled about the fried avocado wedges. They were a bit mushy; I suppose that's to be expected. Lightly battered, seasoned with a little crushed red pepper and sesame seeds. The spicy tomatillo lime ranch served with the wedges was very good. We turned the fresh greens underneath the wedges into a pseudo-side salad. LOL We split an entree, the Catfish Pontchartrain, which was served with garlic smashed potatoes and grilled zucchini. The entree was split for us in the kitchen, no extra charge, which is always nice. The Cajun cream sauce served on the fish was very good, loaded with fresh shrimp. The veggies were good too! We didn't save room for dessert, but those listed on the menu look really good. Next time! I included photos of the entire menu to give y'all an idea of the wide variety of selections offered at Sundancer Grill. Craft salads, burgers, sandwiches, steak and seafood. There is a brunch on Sunday, which looks super tasty! Something on the menu to suit the whole family, and decent prices. Some thoughts about the restaurant itself. It's open air, and it may not even have A/C. But, don't let that scare you off. We were there when the temperature was in mid-90s. They have many fans, and a couple of cooling machines, which I believe use ice. It was very comfortable inside. A full-service bar is available, offering specialty cocktails, as well as a decent beer selection, and a handful of decent wines. Happy hour is Monday through Friday, 4pm to 6pm, with drink discounts, half price wine by the glass, and half appetizers. We'll definitely be back! read more

There were 4 of us. They sat a huge table of probably 20 + women behind us, so it was loud. Why didn't they seat us elsewhere since they knew the big table was coming? (Tables were set up and ready) Our server had that table and ours , although there were other servers. I had to get up to refill my water several times even after I asked her. The people who ordered tea were refilled with coke. My friend ended up getting a tea pitcher and new glasses to replace the coke. My salmon salad had a horrible dressing. I think it was a sweet and sour sauce from a jar. It ruined what was a 'fair' salad. (Canned mandarins and undrained wet lettuce) One woman had the Burrito and she only ate some of it, yet no one inquired if she liked it. Wanted to try this Lakeside Restaurant after reading Yelp Reviews. Tristan was really nice, a young Christian man who waited on me. He advised me on some of the dishes on the menu. It was nice to see Lake Travis back up. The green beans, mashed potatoes were really good. The bacon wrapped shrimp was a little over cooked. The steak, and I am usually wary when dining out on ordering steak,was alright to begin with, but the latter portion was too chewy. The music, which should be in the background, was a little too loud, which made it difficult to have a conversation. Full disclosure that the hubby and I are becoming sailing OBsessed, and we just passed our ASA 101 class (Shout out to Outbound Sailing for a truly great experience!) at the dock right below Sundancer! We blearily eyed this grill on both of those obscenely early morning weekend arrival days for the class, but we were always too dang whipped after to stop in. Fast forward to today, as we arrived to the dock as freshly-minted sailors ready to take on our first sailing trip without an instructor! We just knew that we were going to hit Sundancer after our sail, which we certainly did! To begin, I do have to say that their Painkillers are JUST like the ones in Annapolis! We drown in those at the boat show, so this was an exceptional treat! Especially after a full day of sailing! Cheers, y'all! I opted for the Fried Gulf Shrimp Basket, and it was divine! Just the kind of warm belly crunchy goodness that a day of sailing in 90+ degree Texas weather calls for! The fries were SO dang good, too! This was a super fun and chill place. My only Complainant from getting to the resturant from the boat is how steep the walk is going upward and the rope was not very secure. If your coming to the resturant in a car it's great but if your coming in a boat be aware and careful. The food was very good and not to expensive either. My crab hush puppy Benedict was fabulous the hush puppy's were super yummy and the hollandaise sauce was great. My brother enjoyed his Breakfast Burrito and said it was super tasty.
