8 oz. filet and Baked Potato ($36)

4.5 Stars We celebrated a birthday here and had a very special time :) 5 stars to the best French Onion Soup ($7) I have ever had. And the amazing warm homemade sourdough bread with the whipped garlic butter. Yes, I know it's a steak house and I didn't have steak but that French Onion Soup was just that outerworldly - rich carmelized onion base with a circle of bread and a thick gooey layer of melted gruyere = HEAVEN! I also had a bite of the ahi tuna appetizer ($14) and the firecracker shrimp (swimming in mayo), tasty but nothing noteworthy - hence a 4 star overall rating. I wish I could give half stars. Staff is awesome. The interior is pretty casual-nice, and dimly lit.

Food 5/5 . Had Firecracker Shrimp, Majestic Redfish and Creme Brûlée Service and Staff 5/5. Our server was very attentive, accommodating and very sweet! Ambience and Aesthetic 5/5. Outside and inside was very nice and relaxing! My favorite is the ceiling inside with twinkling lights!

The last review I read was right on the mark! A "hidden gem"! We are new to the Spicewood area and just now trying out the neighborhood. We were driving down 71 and have see the sign many times and didn't think much of it but we were hungry and figured we would try and see if this could be a new "regular" place for us. The short answer is YES! Plenty of parking but I can imagine during summer months, it might be busier. It was a Saturday evening and we didn't need reservations but again, I suspect in warmer times, it might be better to check ahead instead of just walking in as we did. We were seated right away; it's a nice restaurant. A bit contemporary with a nice dining area and even an outdoor dining area. There's a bar area with several TV's playing sports and looks like a fun place to come for a quick bite and watch a game. The wine selection was pretty decent and even found a few that I have at home so it was nice to enjoy a glass. We started off with a few appetizers: we had the firecracker shrimp and the spinach artichoke dip. The shrimp dish was nice but as for the 'spicy' part, I would rate the spiciness as a "2" on a scale of 1-10. And I do agree with the previous reviewer who mentioned the quality of the dip being less than what one would expect. I don't recommend the spinach dip and hopefully they will try and improve this. I had the chopped salad which is there version I'm guessing is sort of like a wedge salad. It was good but it would be better if they just simply served it as a traditional wedge. The dressing was good. For entree's, we had the Rack of Lamb and the Prime Filet. The lamb was incredible and the filet was without question one of the best I've ever had. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked to perfection with a nice pink center. Every single bite of that filet was just incredible! For sides, we had the grilled asparagus, sweet brussels and a baked potato. It's hard to serve a bad baked potato and this came loaded. The asparagus was excellent and the BEST brussel sprouts I've ever had. It's hard to believe but we did have a little room for dessert. The meal was spectacular, we figured why not try dessert. We tried the brownie sundae and the chocolate torte. The brownie is amazing and enough for two if you want to split a dessert. The chocolate torte is VERY decadent and if you are even questioning which to pick... choose this! I would come here just for a glass of red wine and the chocolate torte! Yes, there are a few items they could improve on, but it is unquestionably a 5 Star restaurant! Service was great, the ambiance and food were amazing. We are pretty excited to be living here knowing we have this place to frequent. Even if you live down in Austin, you won't regret the drive up to check out this amazing "hidden gem".

Pork Piccata with Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Very tasty.

02/01/24 - This is an update to my prior reviews, and let me tell you J5 Steakhouse does not disappoint. The renovations they did a couple of years ago have made the restaurant feel more upscale, and if you get a chance to get a table in the room of "10,000 lights" definitely do it. The owners added these lights in the ceiling that look like the stars at night, it is really unique and adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. For this evening, we chose the pork piccata (hadnt had it in a while) with roasted brussel sprouts and the ribeye steak with a baked potato. What I love about the baked potato there is that the really salt the skin and it just tastes perfect! The brussel sprouts were perfect with the right combination of balsamic vinegar and they were excellent. The steak and the pork were cooked to perfection as expected. We also ordered the bread pudding, but forgot to take a picture of it since we took it to go. But it was excellent as well. The portions are very generous and we took home leftovers for the next day. The wait service is always top shelf, and the owner roams around and asks about the experience. All in all it was another tremendous evening with just amazing food. If you ever get up to Spicewood, please do dine here. You won't regret it. 5 stars for sure.

It's been on our…read moreradar for quite some time, and with my brother in town, we decided to give it a try on a Tuesday night. It was quite busy when we arrived, which immediately set a good mood. The energy inside was great, the decor is beautiful, and the whole space gives off 1920s Great Gatsby vibes. The bar scene looked lively, and plenty of guests seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were offered seating on one of the couches near the entrance but chose a more private table instead. Our server was pleasant and kind, though he appeared new. A few small things were missed. Our appetizer plates sat on the table for about 15 to 20 minutes before being cleared, and fresh utensils were not brought out. The wait time for drinks, appetizers, and our main courses was quite long. It felt like we were there close to two hours, with about 30 to 45 minutes between each course. I arrived starving, and unfortunately the long waits made me cranky and impatient and started to affect my appetite. When our drinks finally arrived, I ordered the seasonal apple cider margarita. I was hoping it would be festive and delicious, but it turned out to be very tangy and bitter and not quite the cozy, fall-inspired drink I had expected. My husband and brother did enjoy their drinks, though. The pork belly appetizer, which came highly recommended, was a mixed experience. I would give it a 10 out of 10 for flavor but a 5 out of 10 for texture. The burnt end was extremely tough to cut through, even with effort, and my knife was not strong enough. While it did taste good, it was not the most tender pork belly I have had. I have had versions that truly melt in your mouth, and this one was much chewier. The fried shrimp appetizer was a solid 7 out of 10. It tasted good, but it did not stand out or wow me. The presentation set higher expectations for the flavor than what came through, and the sauce did not feel particularly unique. For my entree, I ordered the hamburger. It was good and well prepared, but nothing especially memorable, just a solid, classic burger. My brother ordered the fish sandwich and absolutely loved his. We had the chance to speak with the owner, who was very kind and friendly. He is clearly passionate about his restaurant and genuinely wants to continue making it better, which I truly appreciate. I am glad we finally made it in to try The Gramercy. Overall, I would be willing to come back. I think it would be a great spot for weekday drinks, appetizers, or brunch, especially during a busy work week. And I love that it is open late until 12 a.m., which is not very common in Lakeway.

You will barely notice the extra expense. * * * The Caddie Shack is probably closer to the look and feel of a British pub than are most of the fake British pubs you find in the United States. No - it is not because they serve British beer. They don't serve bitters or microbrews of any kind. They serve Bud Light and Shiners and Coronas. No it is not because they have wainscoting or tartan carpets or the British Premier League on TV. The building is prefab aluminum sheeting. The decoration is negligible. They have basketball and baseball on TV. They got air hockey, shuffleboard and pool. This place could be a military canteen on an army base. It could be a rec room in somebody's house. * * * So what's so British pub-like about a prefab aluminum shack with bar games and cans of lager beer? What makes a real British pub is the sense of community. It is THE public house in the village. There is no other common place to meet - except church. There is no McDonald's. There is no Starbucks. Where do you go to meet your mates? The local. And there is one and only one local. The minute you enter the pub - you feel like you have walked into a family living room - Because this is where the whole family is hanging out. * * * Point Venture is at the very very tippity tip of Lago Vista. So the only people who go to the Caddie Shack are the people who live in Point Venture. There is one other restaurant near the marina in Point Venture. But otherwise - the Caddie Shack is what there is. So this is where people come and this is where people hang out. Management makes a point to have music most nights. There are regular poker tournaments. (Big cash penalty if you show up late.) There are big sheets of paper on the wall marking everyone's bet on who is going to win the NFL Divisional Championship games this week and what the point spread will be. A lot of people have signed up for bets. It is not that everyone is buddy buddy with everyone else. (People aren't buddy buddy with everyone else in a British pub either). Married couples sit at their tables by themselves playing Buzztime trivia or watching what's on TV. Groups of three and four play the various bar games. Some couples have conversations, soulful or otherwise, just sitting at the bar. This is the place you go in Point Venture, if you don't want to stay home and watch Netflix. Hanging out here is as routine as hanging out in the snack bar in your dorm. * * * I am not a Point Venture kind of a guy. I could never afford the spectacular houses on the lake. Those houses look small from the road. They go down three or four stories BELOW street level. The lower lakefront levels are palatial and magnificent. I don't play golf. I don't like boats. I don't drive a pick-up truck. (The mansions have two or three.) But Caddie Shack just melds in nicely with the Point Venture lifestyle. Any place that brings people together, serves the function of bringing people together. I like the vibe and feeling of Caddie Shack. * * * Now being a twisted Austin yuppie, I can go back to pursuing my obsessions. I like eight ingredient cocktails. I like unsigned bands with songs in 8/17 time. I like violent Korean movies. I like Iranian braised meat dishes with sour lime. What passes over my plate changes every day. I eat some of the most interesting meals in the world. But when I walk into a place where I am eating, I never recognize a single person.
