Migas? Or is it?
Courtney B.

I came to this establishment in December of last year with my companion after a short staycation in Dripping Springs. We came here as we wanted to support local and to get something close to where we were staying. When we walked, we waited to be seated on what appeared to be an extremely busy Saturday morning. We ordered one menu item each. My companion ordered breakfast tacos, and I ordered migas. Migas: Migas are fairly simple to make. Migas are a simple Mexican egg dish that consists of strips of corn tortillas (NOT tortilla chips) pan fried till just barely crisp, and then flooded with whipped egg and bright spices and quickly cooked together. At least that's what I thought it was....what I got was eggs with cold cheese that came from a bag unmelted on top of the eggs. A side tortilla that was out of a bag, not warmed, canned refried beans, and undercooked cubed potatoes. It was inedible. I am not sure if this was a one-off, but my companion's taco was also made with a bagged tortilla and topped with the same cold bagged cheese that I received on my plate. The service we received when here was pleasant, but the food was as previously noted inedible. While I love supporting local businesses, this is one establishment that makes it difficult for me to do.

This cute place we found for brunch recently. The chicken fried chicken I had was absolutely delicious, and my partner tried the chicken fried steak which was also great. Our server was wonderful, and the restaurant has a cool old-school vibe with classic restaurant. The environment was very clean, but the only downside was the lack of music in the dining area. We could hear the kitchen music which was a vide. Overall, I'd give it a four-star rating. Just thought you might want to check it out sometime!

Tried the Friday catfish today with Cole slaw fries and puppies, all delicious Finished with the chocolate pie just like my mom use to make it, delicious and so big I took half home for later. Coming Monday I will try their meatloaf lunch special and my waiter said better come early as they tend to sell out of it quick.

Upon the recommendation of the front desk at our hotel we went to Oak Creek Cafe for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The reviews of the restaurant were overall very good and when we arrived the restaurant was packed and we had a slight waiting time before our table was ready, all indicators that we are going to have a very good breakfast. Sadly this was not the case. I ordered the "Country Skillet" with the "Texas Toast" while my cousin ordered the same thing with the biscuit. When I think of Texas Toast I think of a thick slice of bread but what came out was just regular toast. The breakfast itself was ok not to much flavor. The prices were very reasonable but I would not go back to Oak Creek again.

The Texan 1/2 lb Burger with bacon, cheese, pickles, tomatoes, onion and lettuce.

It was our first time here and let me just say... everything was beyond expectations. As someone…read morewith celiac disease, it is SO rare to find a place that is not only completely gluten free, but actually tastes incredible too. We ordered a variety of items to share as a family including tacos, pizza, chicken and waffles, pastries, and drinks. Everything was packed with flavor. The pastries especially shocked me in the best way possible. The cinnamon roll was fluffy, soft, flavorful, and honestly one of the best gluten free pastries I've ever had. Most gluten free pastries I've tried elsewhere are dry, hard, crumbly, or taste like cake, but here they really perfected their recipes. You can tell they put a lot of time and care into the food. The oatmeal cream pie was TO DIE FOR. Probably one of my favorite things we tried. It was soft, sweet, flavorful, and did not taste "gluten free" at all. The yuzu citrus galette was also SO good and had such a fresh citrus flavor without being overpowering. Honestly all three pastries were amazing and I genuinely wish I could've ordered another round of all of them to go in like a 12-pack I also loved that they offered vegan crema and vegan cheese options. They even had a few GF & DF pastry options which I appreciated because those are honestly hard to find. A lot of their pastries also use alternative milks and it seemed like butter was the main dairy ingredient in many of them. I definitely hit the trifecta with gluten, dairy, and eggs lol, so eating out can sometimes be difficult. Finding truly gluten free places anywhere is honestly pretty rare, so when you find somewhere that is both safe and actually delicious, it feels amazing. I always carry Lactaid, Benadryl, and my EpiPen just in case. Thankfully my egg allergy is mild, but you never know. Let's just say everything looked way too good not to try and honestly... worth it. The BBQ chicken pizza was really good and the crust itself had great texture and flavor. It was on the thicker side, so I personally think a little more topping would balance it out better because sometimes it tasted a little more bread-heavy than BBQ chicken, but overall still delicious. The chicken and waffles were SO good too. They use plantain to crust the chicken which was honestly really unique and flavorful. I only had a bite to try it though because I unfortunately also have a mild banana allergy but like I said... I keep that thang on me lol. The only thing I personally would not order again was the Strawberry Matcha drink. It did not taste like a traditional matcha to me. I expected more matcha flavor, but mostly tasted coconut and strawberry foam. It just wasn't for me, but I would definitely come back to try their other drinks and refreshers because they have some really unique options. The menu itself is HUGE. They have breakfast, pizzas, sandwiches, lunch specials, pastries, cocktails, coffee drinks, and more. The location is kind of hidden but so worth finding. They even have a drive-thru. The inside is super cute with earthy, cozy, chill vibes and the patio/outdoor area was very well maintained. The staff was also incredibly kind and attentive. They constantly checked in, answered all our questions, and made the experience even better. I seriously wish a place like this existed near my house in California because I would absolutely be here all the time. This place is honestly a gluten free dream. If I'm ever back in Texas again, I'm absolutely coming back.

There's a nice outdoor patio area in front of the entrance and a kid-friendly play area to the right, across from the drive through window! Upon entrance, I was wowed by the clean and airy look and feel. There's a large community table for larger groups or social-seekers. Ordering was a little confusing as it wasn't clear where the line forms for ordering. They offer a large selection of coffee drinks, pastries, soups, sandwiches, and alcoholic drinks. What I also loved was their selection of lesser known bottled drinks such as their sea moss-infused coconut water, which was awesome! The service was fast and friendly, the food and drinks were super tasty....I'll definitely be back!

I can say the ambiance is wonderful. It is a beautiful place. Our previous attending and food choices/selections were fantastic. In preparation for, since two had not been there, I pointed them to the online menu. First mistake, the menu is old and requires update. I think if I had known that I would not have made Tilley's an option. The prices of everything were pretty high. And based on the food we selected, most was not worth the cost. One order included Short Rib Pasta with a thin pasta as tagliolini. Instead, I receive a pulled pork with a very thick pasta. I did not care for it. I like thin pasta. Pictures display what was provided and a typical Northern Italy dish of tagliolini. Because I am not certain of the plate names, I can only comment as to what our group had to say. And of course, the menu online is still not up to date. Steak Frites. The steak was a little tough and cold. It did not really have a real flavor. It was accompanied by fries that were not tasty at all. Thank God for ketchup. House made Focaccia, as an appetizer, was a good size that could be shared among the 4 of us. Make sure to ask for extra butter because they only provide a small container. As big as it is and 4 adults, you would think they would automatically provide enough butter for each. The night was so busy that when we finally did ask and got it, the bread was already cold. The lemon brick chicken was another favorite dish in our group. It was tasty. The best dish was the fish (cod). It was superb, since we were disappointed in our own meals, we were fortunate the birthday girl shared with us. The fish was cooked excellent. Let me summarize by saying that based on prices, staff, and time for food to come to us, it wasn't worth it. I think a better choice would have been Trattoria Lisina in Driftwood where you don't have to pay for the bread and staff is always there to take care of you and get the food to you in a more expeditious fashion. Fortunately, Tilley's is beautiful therefore the surroundings make time go by a little quicker. I did send a similar note to Tilley's, but they did not respond.

We were greeted by a friendly hostess that put our name on the list. We waited about 10 minutes and then they called our name. They seated us outside in a shaded area. It was really nice. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed the atmosphere. After waiting a few minutes our waitress came over and greeted us. She was very friendly and took care of us throughout our visit. She gave us menus and took our drink order. When she brought us our waters she took our order. To start we shared some onion rings and nachos. The onion rings were delicious. The interior onion was sweet and the exterior batter was crispy. The nachos were tasty. The chips were thick and able to hold all of the ingredients and the chicken tinga was flavorful. For our main meal my son ordered the pepperoni pizza and loved it. My husband ordered the Fried Catfish Lunch. He enjoyed it and said the catfish was soft with a crispy, and light breaded exterior. He said that the hush puppies and fries were fine. I ordered the Meat Pizza which comes with Pepperoni, Ham, Bacon, and Sausage. The pizza was yummy. I could definitely taste the pepperoni and sausage flavor and the ham was spread out in large chunks. The crust was light and airy. Overall Hays City Store was a great place to visit for lunch. The outdoor atmosphere was great. The service was really good, and the food was tasty.
