We had a fun dinner here our first evening in Texas. The restaurant sits on Lake Travis and requires a little walking to get to from the parking lot. It is worth it though for the view of the lake, the vibe of sitting on the water, and for the fun of seeing all the fish that profit off of it. When we arrived, we were seated outside on their covered deck. Our server was friendly and got us our drinks quickly. He also gave us some recommendations as we were unsure what to get from the menu. I got the catfish tacos, which came with a salad as their side. The meal hit the spot. The catfish was cooked just right and well seasoned. It paired really well with the toppings of the taco, which were fruity and bright. The salad was also super refreshing and dressed to my liking. Overall it was a great, light dinner for me after traveling all day and did not take a chunk out of my wallet either. The most fun about this place is that they advertise their natural garbage disposal, the fish who swim near their dock. A few of my friends did not finish their meals and saved their fries for the fish. We may be adults, but we still had a lot of fun tossing fries at fish at the end of the evening. They also sell actual fish food inside if you have small children who would like to feed them more. There is a bit of a walk from the parking area, but they do have ramps along the way. They've been conditioned to beg for food like very hungry, eager puppies. For dinner, we had blackened salmon. The blackened salmon plate comes with fries, cole slaw and the yummiest hush puppies. My blackened salmon salad had lots of my favorites. Blackened salmon over a bed of mixed greens with cucumbers, mandarin oranges, carrots, feta and toasted almonds. Vinaigrette on the side. So good. I hate restaurants that charge a credit card fee on top of their bill - It may have been disclosed on the menu (I'm not sure) but I'm already there and now the bill comes with a 3% fee. In any regard, this is not affect my restaurant rating. Food is average and service is average (server comes by when he can, and was very personable but a bit forgetful) - seem to be a bit short on servers. We were quickly seated and food came out quickly. Fried pickles were great - hot and spicy, fries were cold in the basket, and shrip tacos were OK. I imagine most patrons arrive by boat...but you can get there by car...and the walk down AND up is a bit of an adventure from the parking lot. We ordered the peel and eat cajun shrimp, very tasty with our cocktails, texas flip flop and classic marg. The best part was that the shrimp shells get dumped overboard for the fish that hang out under the floating dock. My capt pete jerk chicken and companion's catfish basket were enjoyable. HORRIBLE experience today at Captain Pete's... actually, it was a nonexistent experience. We were so looking forward to drinks and food by the water with our two dogs. We got there, got seated and had menus given to us, and that was it. The hostess and the waiters glanced at us a few times, and there was no way they could miss us because we had 2 90-pound dogs with us and menus still on the table, but they never came to even offer us water, much less take our orders. It wasn't busy and there were at least 4 servers. They quickly waited on two tables that arrived AFTER us, but they were off boats, not a lowly car like we were. My husband even went inside to get dog water and they saw him walk back out. After about 20 minutes, we just got up and left, still hungry and thirsty. They did do a major overhaul of the dining area and according to the manager, there were a lot of additional repairs. Pete's has a few specialty drinks and our highly skilled & professional bartender, Tabitha, did not give us a tourist pour. Our Sunday-Funday Marghies were spot on. The menu item that caught my eye was the Fenway Frank. Come to find out the chef is a big Boston fan and offers a Fenway Park hotdog. This was not a ballpark dog but a foot-long grilled dog smothered in mustard, relish, and chopped onions. Hand-cut fries are included but the dog is king here. Plus one ordered the firecracker shrimp. It's a healthy portion and they were fried and spiced just right. Keep in mind with the lake so low it's a steep climb back up to the parking lot. We did meet a group as we were heading down and they remarked we should not have had that last round. They were a huffin and a puffin. read more

Captain Pete's is pretty good! We were able to park our pontoon super easy in one of the front spots. The food is also pretty good! I got a garden salad, and chicken tenders. The only thing that I didn't like about the salad was the spinach but there was only like 2 peices. The bathrooms are pretty clean, and the gift shop has cute shirts, kinda expensive, but still cute. They also have yummy ice cream! The waiter was nice, there was slow service, but that's expected due to how busy this place is. (We went 4th of July weekend) You can also buy fish food at the gift shop, or just use French fries to feed the catfish which is reallly fun! read more

This was the perfect spot after a day out on the water. They have indoor and outdoor seating our preference was outside so we can still have views of the lake. The hostess and waitress were kind and attentive. We started with the garden salad with ranch and the only item that would have made it that much better would have been a hard boiled egg. Then we had the spicy shrimp ( that's not what it's called) and we highly recommend it. Those shrimp did not stand a chance lol Our grand finale was burger and fries! If you're wanting to eat on Lake Travis this has a great patio area. You're allowed to come by boat and it's not a crazy walk like some of the other restaurants from the dock to the restaurant. We have come here several times and have always had great service. Austin, the bartender, is great to converse with! Make sure to order a Pain Killer. Reminds me of the Virgin Islands. We almost always get the Bang Bang Shrimp and Crispy Baby Back Ribs. I'm a chicken when it comes to spice, but the shrimp has just enough spice where it isn't over powering. Went to Captain Pete's Boathouse with my son today at noon 9/7/2024 and I don't drink so I ordered tea and food. The bartenders are very rude and unprofessional and are bullies. I asked for Sweet and low and I got yelled at by the bartender and bar back. I spoke with the owner but this behavior is unacceptable. The bill was over $50 and the owner didn't even comp the tea. I would not recommend this place at all! I was humiliated and brought to tears, WHY? over sweet n low? I will never return to this establishment!! read more

This is probably the most misleading 2.5 star rated restaurant I've ever been too. First off, being on a dock is really unique and cool. Food was fantastic -- fried shrimp basket and buffalo chicken salad. The basket was a little pricey but tasty. The salad was huge! I've never seen my wife eat so much salad. We tried several flavors of frozen margs. All of them were great but the Texas peach topped them all. Shout out to our amazing waitress Katelyn who was super fun, attentive, nice, and friendly. But he vibe is cool and the people are friendly and you could do a lot worse on a sunny day than spend it on their expansive deck. Other than being in the water, the other thing that I found enjoyable about Captain Pete's was feeding the catfish and carp that swarm around the deck because people feed them the food they probably couldn't finish themselves from the Captain Pete kitchen. We went to this boathouse restaurant in the banks of Colorado river. The atmosphere and ambiance of the place was very energetic complimented by live music. We ordered chicken wings, nachos, tacos, beers and a bottle of their wine (we were a bunch). The service was fantastic, servers sat us on the edge of the restaurant with a majestic view of the river. I enjoyed the view as much as food and drinks, perhaps more. The fact that there were bunch of fishes swimming under where we sat added to the intrigue of the afternoon. We saw some giant fishes under the restaurant (part or most of it is floating). These fishes love the scraps people feed and they looked very well fed, perhaps too well lol. I did certainly contributed to their nutrition that afternoon with some left over fries and salad. I thought the place was reasonably priced with their meals priced between $10-20 and decent portions. My family and I have been coming to Point Venture for 50 years and have seen many restaurants go through this location. Zachary is by far the best server we've ever had. He's got great energy and always takes such good care of us. Super chill fun guy. I saw him get into a push up competition with a 10 year old kid. So fun. In addition to all of this, his service is excellent. There was some confusion on who was supposed to take care of our table and Zachary stepped up to the plate and took great care of us. Also, we have seen great improvement in the food with this ownership in comparison to previous years. We eat here nearly every day we're in town and there is something for everyone in our huge family (there's 30 of us). Manager was kind of passive aggressive but don't worry Zach fixed all our problems. Feel bad for him he needs a promotion asap. #makezachmanager. So if mobility is an issue, this may not be your best choice due to the many stairs or steep ramps that lead down to the floating restaurant. But once you get there, it's worth it.
