Do not spend your time or money here, please. I showed up for my appointment and as I sat in the waiting area I overheard them calling multiple customers telling them they would need to keep their car over the weekend (3 days). I even thought to myself that I should go somewhere else because they are clearly overbooked and I don't want to get stuck without a car for the weekend. Low and behold, they call me later telling me they needed to keep my car for the weekend. They had every opportunity to let me know that they could not finish my car that day. they most certainly knew this would happen because they had been calling people earlier. As I was on the phone with them, I let the guy know that they should have told me they wouldn't have my car done. The gentleman on the phone cut me off multiple times. I asked to speak with the manager and HE cut me off multiple times. I could not get a word in with these guys. As the customer, I wanted them to know that they are clearly putting a lot of people out, I heard it first hand. when they know they cannot handle the work load, they should let customers know that the service will take multiple days. This was not "out of their control" at all. Extremely unprofessional, disrespectful and down right rude. There are plenty of great shops in the area with respectful and professional people, go there. read more

I honestly should have known better. I went in for an oil change and they had me sign off on that. They called me while at work and gave me an update and told me it was going to be about twenty bucks. When I get back my total is fifty dollars because of I "agreed" to things on the phone call. They wanted to play my recording back. It's just unprofessional to not explicitly discuss the repairs on the car and then try and swindle someone in the end. Luckily they found the old air filter that they decided to throw away and change on their own in the trash and replaced it. I would never come back. Beware of scammers. read more

If these guys are providing a service, it's to themselves to make a profit and not to it's customers to provide an honest service. I am by no means an experienced professional mechanic, but I do have plenty of experience repairing my own vehicles and I know the difference between a necessary and unnecessary repair. I took my car into their shop just to have my front disk break pads replaced, which by their advertised special would have been under $100. They called me to say that the master cylinder was leaking and unsafe so needed to be repaired, an extra $450, and they refused to do the job without repairing that as well. I called their bull#### and did the pads myself. 60k miles later I'm still driving and haven't added a drop of break fluid to the reservoir. I've bad plenty of used cars and know things like that just don't need to be done. Don't get ripped off! Stay away from these cons! read more

I previously posted the following review of this place...which still stands... Perfectly Unethical...Poor customer service. I have three children that attend(ed) ASU; and each one of them has a horror story about Sun Devil Auto. They keep getting suckered in with low price oil changes, and then are convinced that major items need repaired at ridiculous prices. I finally forbid them to go back...I know they should be smarter than that, but this place makes a living off of taking advantage of college kids!! Upon posting the review...I received the following note from YELP... We wanted to let you know that we've removed your reviews of Sun Devil Auto. I could share similar experiences of outrageous quotes which stemmed from completion of routine maintenance activities. But I feel that I have used up too much space. Took my car in just after 9am for an oil change & check the panel under my car as it's hanging down. They told me to just make sure I pick it up by 5pm. I walked back to get my car at 4pm (I live pretty close but it's still hot out). They hadn't gotten to it yet but it was "still in line". I stated that I had to be somewhere at 4:30. "Well, it was a drop off oil change & we told you 5". It was a drop off oil change because I called to make an appt & they told me to just bring it in. If they weren't actually going to get to it until 4pm they should have told me that. I needed my car for other things today & now I don't have time to take it anywhere else. The panel is hanging down so far it's almost touching the road & it's definitely touching my tire. How am I supposed to drive like that?? I will say, however, that they were nice. I forgot why I stopped going to them but now remember. read more

There is a reason why this particular Sun Devil Auto has amazing reviews because they provide exceptional customer service and affordable prices. I usually am hesitant taking my car to large chain auto services but Barry (the manager) took that concern away. He was honest and not your typical pushy sales manager. He also set up for one of his employees to not only drop me back off at home while my car was getting serviced but he then sent him back hours later to pick me up again and bring me back to my vehicle. You cant beat customer service like that! Will definitely be returning with any auto servicing needs. read more

I love going to the sun Devil auto in Gilbert. I tried to call this location this morning for an oil change and asked if someone could give me a ride to work which is down the street a little further than the sun devil auto on McDowell. Before I could tell Barry I needed other services done to my vehicle in addition to the oil change, He told me someone could not give me a ride to work because it wasn't cost effective. It just seemed very rude to me and he was very short. I would've still came to drop off my car if I got better customer service but I will wait and continue to go to the location in Gilbert. read more

I have been going to this location on and off for a little over 6 years. I can always trust that they do a good job & take care of my car. I could have probably gotten a better price on a handful of services I got there, but I am comfortable going here. I never get that typical"slimeball" feeling I usually get w mechanics. Even though the garages are always packed with cars, they are very timely, even when I forget to make an appointment. There are a handful of times that I was skeptical with their recommendation for serving (i.e. Spark plugs when I felt unnecessary), but they are never too pushy. I would have given them 4.5/5 if I could have read more

I'll tell ya, I'm a guy who takes pride in working on my own car but working on cars is not my profession, my profession is in programming. But when it comes to things that I just can't figure out or just plain don't have the time for I prefer to go to Sun Devil Auto and nowhere else. The reason why is that the service is exceptional. They stick to what you want done and they don't pressure you into doing unnecessary work. In fact, they have even made recommendations not to do some work that I was thinking of having done, suggesting instead an alternative and far much cheaper fix informing me that what I was thinking was the right idea but not the actual solution to that particular problem. As a result I will often take my vehicle in to have them fix it and ask recommendations on what is next on my mind. From my experience they don't just know what they are doing and do it repetitively like a bunch of monkeys. Instead they are well versed and very knowledgeable in their field of work and are fully capable of diagnosing a very complex problem and being pretty close if not spot on to what the problem is before they even look at the car, that tells me these guys are the best. read more

I am just passing through from california to Texas. I noticed my car tires were a lil deflated and got concerned... I explained to the guy that I am by myself and had been driving 16 hrs and I am on my way to Texas. The guy took a quick look at all my tires right away and reassured me nothing was wrong. One of the managers there tried to make me feel like I was getting a deal by NOT charging me $100 to run the onboard diagnostics scanner. It literally costs them nothing to run an OBD scan on your car. They must not know that anyone can buy one of these scanners for less than $50 and do it themselves for free. I definitely won't be coming back to this shop again simply on this action. They will rip you off if they think they can get away with it. read more

I brought my Mini Cooper in for quite a few things yesterday and was very happy with the service. Both Bary and Cody were very helpful and explained what was wrong with my car in language I could understand. I was given options on whether I wanted to go with the superior type of rotors for my brakes rather than the standard and the benefits were explained to me. I had a heated seat that wasn't working and all it turned out to be was a disconnected wire. The synthetic oil change was half the price of what the dealer charges. Sun Devil Auto in Scottsdale has not only earned a customer, they have earned two! My girlfriend will be bringing her Mini into their shop when she needs service rather than paying the outrageous prices she has been paying at the dealer. Fast, efficient, quality service with a smile. I couldn't ask for more. read more

Bad service with an attitude. Watch out. I wanted them to replace a coolant hose which is a simple job that I would do myself if the heat here wasn't so crazy in the summer. There is a plastic nozzle that if already cracked, will cause a leak when replacing this hose. I had pulled back the hose some and took a picture to show Cody the service adviser that my nozzle is not cracked now, and I wanted to tell him that when tightening the new hose to use about 5ft-lbs of force and not to crank it down and crack it. I couldn't even finish what I had to say before he blurted out "I'm not responsible!" I asked him to just listen to what I was saying. He repeated himself, louder this time saying "I'm not responsible". Prior to that he was up selling a lady on a brake job. She said that she didn't have a lot of cash, but he kept pushing her to get all around brakes. She agreed to the front, which are most important. Instead of just doing what she asked, he started with nightmare scenarios of not doing the rear brakes. Etc.... I think you get the point. Total rip off shop, not to be trusted. Can't imagine how they are still in business. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Long story short, I've taken my Honda here for the past couple of years, and every time I've come in, the price has gotten bigger and bigger. This time, my AC had gone out, and when I took it in, they told me that my condensing fan was broken and that I'd need to replace it and add freon. They quoted me $625. I couldn't afford that so I told them not to do the work and I would come get the car. In the meantime, I called my old shop in Mesa (I now live in Phoenix so I had stopped taking it to this shop because of inconvenience) and they quoted me $275 to replace the fan and top off the freon. When I went to pick up my car at Sun Devil, I told Barry that the other shop would be much cheaper. He immediately started backtracking and after a couple of minutes of looking at his computer, told me they could do it for $325!!! Wow a $300 difference??? That seems a little fishy. Guess what? I took it to the shop in Mesa, who called to tell me that the condensing fan WASN'T EVEN BROKEN!! It was a relay to the compressor that had failed. I walked out the door for $115 and that included them topping off the freon. I will not be back, you have totally lost my business. read more

I have an older car, parts are always aftermarket for sure. Sun Devil always clearly explains work needed and the costs associated with all the work. Clear terms no double talk or mumbo jumbo. I can ask what work is needed vs suggested and also get a clear precise answer. If i take my car in in the morning, i get a ride to work and my car is always done on time! I trust this place to treat me honestly and fairly. read more

They fixed my car, they were honest about the work needed, and when I had more car problems I was able to bring it back and they found and fixed the problem from work done by a DIFFERENT shop. These guys were honest and both times they worked on my car the were always straightforward. As a female with an older car, I am happy to recommend their shop. read more

I live in Illinois my daughter lives in Scottsdale. She was having a AC problem on a older jeep. I sent here here to have it looked at. I called asked them to check it out that I needed her car to be safe. They told me that the AC compressor needed to be replaced. They told me 1200.00 I said OK please check it over. They called me backk told me it needed extra work price increased to 1800.I said do it. My daughter picks up the car the rear view mirrors in the front seat left front door latch bolts loose and falling off. They up sold me on some BS parts.. but did not address the saftey issues.Do not use. read more

When I stopped by on Friday to get my A/C looked at, Sun Devil was crazy busy, and they quoted a couple hour wait, I would have stayed, but I had to be at work, so I opted to come in on Saturday. When I came in on Saturday it was even BUSIER and they turned me away and said Jiffy Lube down the street could look at it. Mind you, I was lugging a newborn in her car seat and I was driving her around in a car with no air conditioning in 90 degree heat.. but I understood. So as I was strapping my baby up, getting ready to leave, one of the mechanics (I assume he was the manager) ran out and said he didn't feel right sending me away with a baby and no A/C. "Give me a couple hours and I'll get your car looked at right now." They gave me competitive pricing considering the struggle of getting my car in and their service and understanding was impeccable. I had a dead battery and called Sun Devil Auto. Their friendly, helpful staff got me right in, no wait. Took a look at my battery and noticed the acid had damaged some parts. They were up front and honest with me and told me it could possibly be a costly repair but asked that I give them a little time to see if they could fix it. I got a ride home assuming the worst. Received a phone call within an hour telling me everything was good to go. So happy with them I will definitely bring the Camry back. read more

This place makes me sick!!! my car went in for an oil change 03/03/16 the guy who checked us out was completely rude!!!!!!!! told us a hose needed to be replaced as some coolant was leaking out. we declined that repair. The guy looked and acted upset and offended at our decline.. THE VERY NEXT DAY my car is leaking the coolant completely out!!! MY car had no visible leaks no message indication my coolant was low or my car over heating, to completely leaking coolant out i have to fill up coolant every single time the car is driven!!!! do not take your car to this place if i could prove they damaged my car i would take legal action!!!!! shame on this "business" and the horrible customer service they have!!!! read more

Could not problem solve and kept telling me the car was fixed when it was certainly not. Brought my car in because it was having AC issues. Hot air was blowing in when I sped up but the car got some what cool (but not cold as it used to) in idle. There was a day and night difference where one day it was great and the next day it was awful. So they recharged the AC, which I expected. They gave it back to me, charged $220 and said it was fix. But I drove it around for a day and nothing was fixed! The AC was still bad. So took it back in, they found no leaks, drove it around and kept saying it was working fine when it definitely was not. So I was done with them and took it somewhere else. Within two hours the other mechanic I went to found a problem with the air flow actuator and fixed it. Now the AC runs perfectly. These guys at sun devil couldn't figure it out, didnt even try to figure it, and kept telling me it was fixed. Don't go here if you have a problem beyond an oil change. read more

Took my grandma's car into this location for a simple oil change and to add fresh coolant after she had complained about overheating issues. Upon returning after a couple hours I was informed that the radiator was cracked and would need replacement for $550. After telling the staff that since it wasn't my car I would need to check with my grandma before authorizing a repair of that dollar amount and bring the vehicle back. After hearing this the staff got very pushy about me even taking the vehicle from the shop insisting I would have to get it towed away and that it was dangerous to drive. Finally I was able to take the car after agreeing to sign a statement saying I had been informed by Sun Devil Auto of the potential safety concerns. My parents ultimately took the car to a mechanic they trust. The only issue was a hose clamp needing to be replaced with a parts value of less than $50. The whole situation was scare tactics and intimidation by Sun Devil Auto to try and force an unnecessary repair. I would never take another vehicle here, consumers be warned. read more

BEWARE this is the worst kind of repair shop,I live fairly close to the rip off outfit.I grew up around cars my dad owned a repair shop and auto supply store.The problem is years ago you could work on your own car but now they are so complex with all the computers so you are forced to take it to a repair shop.I have been to this place several times ,they always sell you stuff you don't want or need.I must know over a dozen people who REFUSE to take their cars in here,they have all been ripped off !!!!!!! I wanted a simple repair done and they cane back saying I needed $1,260 worth of work,I had them make a list of needed repairs ,I then took car to my regular mechanic he said most of these repairs are not needed for he checked over everything they listed.He fixed my car for $250 not the $1,260 SUN DEVIL wanted.Once I was in here and a elderly couple was crying for they just handed them a three thousand dollar bill !!! My review is based only about this McDowell location not sure about other Sun Devil repair shops. read more
