This is a novel. CliffNotes are that if you have a needed repair, just save the hassle that I've endured the last 6 months and look elsewhere. This issue began last year when I brought my vehicle in for a power steering fluid leak. I was advised that the power steering reservoir was cracked, so I authorized that replacement. About a week later, the fluid was low again and the vehicle was making noise when turning. I returned to the same location and was told a hose or fluid line needed to be replaced. I was also told the rack and pinion may be leaking, but due to the cost, I only authorized the line repair at that time. During that repair, I was told a technician damaged something while working on the vehicle, which required additional major labor and a couple of weeks to repair. Since they were already going to be working in that area, I agreed to have the rack and pinion replaced as well. I believe that repair was approximately $900. After getting the vehicle back, I drove it for about a week and then started hearing a knocking sound when turning. I brought it back again and was told some components were tightened, but the noise was not fixed. I had previously declined front suspension work because it was presented as recommended, not required. After the knocking continued, I was advised by multiple employees that replacing the front suspension would fix the issue. At the time, I was in the middle of cancer treatment involving daily radiation and chemotherapy. I could not comfortably afford the $3,600 repair, but I needed the knocking sound resolved, so I authorized the work based on their recommendation. When I picked up the vehicle after the suspension repair, I did not get 20 feet out of the parking lot before the same knocking sound returned. I brought the vehicle back again when I was able to arrange a ride. After the vehicle was worked on again, the knocking sound was finally gone. When I asked what caused it, Andy told me that "they had to tighten some stuff on the rack and pinion." That is my main concern. The issue was ultimately resolved by correcting or tightening something related to the rack and pinion, which was a repair I had already paid for. Based on that explanation, the $3,600 front suspension repair did not fix the issue I brought the vehicle in for and appears to have been unnecessary. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I spoke with Andy about compensation or a refund. He said his district manager would be in the next day and that he would get back to me. I never received a follow-up, and a later message I left for Andy was not returned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I finally talked with the DM today who defended making the front suspension repair while acknowledging that it didn't fix my issue because parts on the front end were worn and would have eventually needed replacement, not necessarily to fix the noise that I brought the car in for initially. Had they installed the rack and pinion correctly in the 1st place, the car wouldn't have been in there for them to recommend the front suspension repair to fix the knocking noise. This location was under different ownership / a different business previously, and I had a horrible experience there. Now that it switched to Sun Devil I figured I would give it a try again. Should not have bothered. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Scheduled an oil change and when I scheduled it I gave all pertinent info about my car. When I showed up for the appointment, he asked if I was there for an oil change - genuinely not knowing why I was there. He also had me re-tell him everything about my car. Not really an appointment then, was it?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I got a text that my car was done and a couple of recommendations. I called and asked them to change the filter, then didn't hear anything for two hours[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We were driving by so we stopped in. I said, "Hey, don't know if my car is done, just wanted to stop in and see." He had forgotten to even put in the request for the filter change. Fine. He asked us to hang out, said he'd get it done. The store Assistant Manager? Manager? Michael told the tech the wrong filter. Completely wrong shape. They then ordered the correct filter from down the road. We left again and came back a few hours later - when we STILL hadn't heard anything. The two techs assured my husband that the filter was changed so we took the car and left. I had a sneaky feeling it wasn't actually changed, so I had him check today. Completely dirty already. AKA - not changed. If you can't get the basics right, you certainly can't get the big stuff right. This also falls under "lying" in my book since I paid for a service and didn't receive it - not to mention the three unnecessary visits and forgetting to even put in the service request. P.S. Beware of any 5-star reviews on this place. Many were written in 2021, which is when it wasn't even owned by Sun Devil. Also, any time someone has only written one review on Yelp and has no other info... it's bs. read more

Checked the other locations most likely couldn't have gotten in today and all appointments tomorrow were full. I had a battery that needed to be checked and possibly replaced. They told me to bring it in and they would get through as quickly as they could at least by 3 PM this afternoon, I stopped at about 1130 drop my car before I finish my lunch they had it completed. Came in for an oil change. They told me I needed a new air filter. For $50. Told them no. Asked my husband to change it. My husband popped opened the air filter and this was the result. Here is the technician who took the fake photo of someone's dirty air filter and claimed it to be mine. Here is my current air filter. Brought my car in. They were able to run a diagnostic quickly. After getting quotes from a few other shops found out they charge double here. I decided to go with another place and when I went to pick my car up they threw me the keys and said to go find it in the back. They left the top of the engine and the coil in the passenger seat, so obviously I wouldn't be able to drive it. I know my car isn't the nicest, but they shouldn't be putting parts on the seats and staining the inside. Extremely unprofessional. Do they not know their own technicians schedules? Particularly if only one technician does the main diagnostics testing? Do they not have respect for their customers time? We spoke to a younger guy in the front and told him we didn't need an oil change but a diagnostics test because another sun devil auto in Scottsdale did that, where we didn't have the best experience so came to the one near my old neighborhood that recently became a sun devil auto. So, we go to pick up the car and they did an oil change (which again we specifically clarified this wouldn't be happening last week when we scheduled the appointment for Monday - the one day the diagnostics tech was not in -- this also made us alter plans with family we hadn't seen because we needed to get the car worked on so we hopped on the first available appointment on Monday at 9am.) So for the oil change we didn't need and no diagnostics completed (they will say we didn't give them enough time but where was the respect for ours in scheduling the appointment on a day where that technician is not even in putting us on hold in other aspects because no respect for time), they didn't let us take the car until we paid for the oil change we confirmed would not be done. This place is a complete waste of time and having to miss work / unable to pass emissions because their incompetence and lack of scheduling knowledge is inexcusable. (lmao if your main job is to schedule appointments you should know your people and when they'll be in especially if there's only ONE GUY WHO DOES THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING - the one thing we went for) We had a poor experience at another sun devil auto which we had expressed in the lobby and assured we would be taken care of at this location. We were not. These guys did not make up for it. They never updated with a call when they said they would and we had to call for updates on it each time and we still don't know what is wrong with it. I used the website last Friday to make an appointment for an oil change. It made me pick 3 dates and times and never got any confirmation on any of them. I just dropped it off this morning at 7:10am and it is now 10am and still no call to be done. They need to work on the website scheduling part to make the apppointments. I want to apologize for the confusion. Things have been going wrong today and I didn't want to come off as mad just think the online appointments need to be improved. I STRONGLY SUGGEST BEWARE OF THIS LOCATION AND DON'T TAKE YOUR VEHICLE THERE. I took my car to Sun Devil auto at Kyrene and Ray to get a second opinion after I had initially got it checked with Firestone which has been my usual place for many years. My car was making a strange noise which increased on pressing the gas pedal. Firestone said that my front load bearing would need a replacement and provided me with an itemized quote totaling around $1850. For this, I paid Firestone $9.99 (The actual price was $29.99 but they added a coupon). At Sun Devil, I met their sales agent R. Valencia (I am blanking on his first name) who said they charge $99 for vehicle inspection. The agent mentioned their inspection ranges from $99-$275 and never goes up. So, I left my car with them on a Saturday. Around 2-3 pm, I got a call where they said that they had to dig deeper and the diagnostic costs has gone up to $287. The most likely issue they have found is with the front shaft which would be few hundred dollars ($844.92 = $729 part + $115 labor). The sales agent also mentioned that the intermediate shaft may also need a repair but it is highly unlikely. At this point, I told the agent that I do not want to pay more for this car and would like to sell it. Valencia said we are still talking in hundreds and the car is very good otherwise. The car needs to stay in the store as it was Saturday but he will repair it and have it ready for me on Monday. On Monday morning they gave me another call, saying that the intermediate shaft ($684) is also bad and would need to be replaced. The final cost for the repair would be around $1900. So, you can see that just a vehicle inspection routine for me became a milking operation for these guys. Later in the afternoon, I got another call from Valencia and he said that my car's front wheel bearing is bad and that would cost another $472 for labor and $148 for parts. This was the same issue that the Firestone engineer had identified in my vehicle. At the end of this repair, Sun Devil handed me a bill of $2431. And they could only identify the front wheel bearing after putting me down by $1900. I confronted Valencia on their tactics and the analogy he gave me is that when you have a leak in a house, you can never be sure of the source and we have to try out all the options. My only question to them is how come a technician at Firestone determine the problem using only $29.99 vehicle inspection test and it took your technician $1900 to identify the same problem. I don't know if Firestone would have finally charged me around 2400 like Sun Devil did instead of the quoted 1890, but at least they presented a clear picture on what I can expect. Sun Devil just kept on bringing one thing after other even when I had conveyed the person that I do not intend to spend much cash on the repair and I am rather looking to sell my car. read more

Decided to try Sun Devil as I had a flat tire due to a nail puncture, and needed an oil change. They're very close to home, so dropped it off on the morning, and he tells me "flats are free". Wow! 2 hours later, they call to let me know that they can't patch the tire, is over 3 years old and it's just not safe to do so, but can I write you up a quote on new tires... My meter goes off, so I start checking around. Car-knowledgeable friends, another trusted mechanic (which doesn't do tires), internet searches, everyone says unless the tire is AT LEAST 6 years old, even here in the desert, or there's damage to the sidewall (there wasn't), its perfectly acceptable to patch it. So I paid for my oil change (which was also overpriced, because I exceeded 5Q synthetic oil maximum for standard change) and for it of there and went to Discount Tire instead. I dropped my truck off with an A/C problem on a Monday around 2:30 pm. They called me back and said my compressor was out, needed a kit that included a compressor, the condenser was fine. It would be $1999.00, and it would be ready the next day. The next day(Tuesday) around 3:00 pm they called and said the condenser was actually bad also, another $325.00, they already ordered it and it would still be ready by 6:00pm that day, I told them to go ahead and do it, because I needed my truck back. They called me T 5:30 that night and said they couldn't finish it, but would be ready in the morning on Wednesday. I had to take another day off work. They didn't finish until 2:00pm on Wednesday. They lied to me twice! I do not recommend this place. I wish I would have went somewhere else!!!! read more

Called for an appointment and they were able to get me in next day. Honest about what I NEEDED and what would be helpful. Prices seemed fair compared to other auto repairs. Clean and cozy to wait and watch tv while work is being done. Only bummer was I thought the front office guy (riding a scooter for his leg) was curt and rude when I asked him some honest questions. read more

Took my Jeep to them for an alignment before a long trip I had coming up the next day. Dropped off the Jeep at 9:30am and they said it would be ready in a couple of hours. After calling them 2x and getting the answer of "we are working on it," I finally called them back at 5:30pm and they told me they couldn't loosen the tie rod adjustment to complete the alignment after working on it for hours. I went and picked it up and took it home and broke the tie rod loose in 4 minutes using PB blaster and a pipe wrench. Go somewhere else because these guys are useless and a waste of time. read more

My car overheated in front of this location so I needed immediate assistance. They kept my car overnight and the next morning said not only does my thermostat housing need to be replaced, but my control arms need to be replaced or my wheel could go flying off while I'm driving down the road. In order to get the car on the road I asked that they fix the thermostat but not the control arms and that I would get a second opinion. When I came to get the car they again tried the scare tactics of the whee flying off when I left the parking lot and putting everyone in danger if I didn't have them fixed and if I couldn't afford it, they had financing to help me out with the additional $1700 worth of work. Upon receiving a second opinion and being told I DO NOT need new control arms, I called this shop back to tell them I didn't appreciate the attempt to be taken advantage and was told my second opinion must have a "hero" complex. This place preys on women and scaring them so they can pad their bottom line. Not ok. This is also not the first time Sun Devil auto has tried this. Doesn't matter the location! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I took my truck there for an exhaust leak which I let them fix. While working on it they also said I needed new brakes and something else which was gonna cost like 1,450. I told them no I'm good and went home took my tires off and checked them myself and they where 90% good. These guys are crooks, I went back and told the manager what his guys where trying to pull and he said they don't do stuff like that and that his guy mistakenly said it wrong. I was charged over $100 for a wheel alignment. Was sent over to this one because the other one couldn't do it ok no problem. So they 'did' it and after few weeks needed it again all under warranty as I was told. His name was Mark and he was a white man. The other young co-worker sat there the entire time on a loud obnoxious personal phone call. I took my car in for a power steering fluid change. I was told there was a fluid leak and was quoted a price of approximately $1600.00 to replace the hoses. They ordered the parts on Monday and they notified me the parts arrived on Thursday. I dropped my car off at 12:45 pm on Thursday and was told my car would be ready in a couple of hours but definitely before closing at 6pm. My car was not ready until almost 8pm. 12:45 pm-8 pm.
