Jason and the crew were fantastic. I had taken my Acura to the dealership for an oil change the week prior to my visit to Sun Auto. Dealership claimed I needed new rear brake pads. (Dealerships are not your friends, haha) So I took my Acura to Sun to have the pads replaced. The guys here were fantastic and alerted me to the fact that I do not, in fact, need new brake pads, yet. They're still at 60% life. They did, however, let me know that my front axle is leaking. I was able to take my Acura BACK to the dealership to get this axle replacement taken care of before my warranty expired, all thanks to the guys at Sun Auto, who didn't charge me a penny for ANYTHING. I rarely ever get mad because I rarely have poor experiences with places, most times I don't even write a review but this one can't go without one. Came in to do a used car inspection, they decided to mess with my battery terminals and caused a short through my fuse link so my car wouldn't start anymore. Had to tow a vehicle that was working perfectly fine an hour and a half through traffic back home. When I diagnosed the issue at home it had clearly been a short that broke one of my parts I had already replaced and fixed. I didn't authorize them to mess with my vehicle and this is what I get. Very frustrated with this place, I left feeling like I was lied to and like the mechanic didn't know what he was doing just to rope into a repair bill. This was my first visit to this establishment to get my oil changed in my 2018 Honda Clarity. After a short debate about which oil to use (Owners manual says one thing, dealer says another, not Sun's issue) I agreed to go with the synthetic oil change. There was a coupon available for $49 that I brought, more on that later. Sun also offers a free tire rotation with the oil change, making this a great value in my mind. The facility is very clean and professional, with a comfortable, spacious waiting area for customers. I had made an appointment online and my car was ready in about an hour. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is my coupon was not applied at checkout and I didn't notice this until I got home, this was an honest oversight and my bad for not catching it sooner. I can't believe I haven't rated this place yet. It's my go-to automotive shop in South Austin. They're the reason why my little red civic still runs aka little red. I've owned it for 10 years. There has yet to be an issue they haven't fixed and their warranty is excellent. They take pride in servicing their clients and it shows. We get all out vehicles oil changed there also. You get a $5 discount for checking in on yelp. Every dollar adds up and I appreciate it very much. That savings just bought my Dunkin' Donuts Coffee next door. After calling 5 different places and being told they didn't perform inspections or their inspector was out today. Finally, I called sun auto and was told to come on in and they'd get the car taken care of in no time. This is probably the best experience I've had in an auto shop. Each time we've used this place, the employees are very friendly and accommodating. Every time I've called the employees have been helpful and friendly. The price is pretty average for their services, but I believe that the atmosphere and kindness of employees makes a place worth coming to. Repair was for a window mechanism on a late model Lincoln Town Car. During both visits (one for estimate, one for repair) I was told that this was an easy repair and should not take that long (1 to 2 hours). The counter people never informed me of a problem until I asked them about the delay. I was then told assumptions were made on both the part and tools required to effect repair, and that things were being handled. This was far from the truth. The only time I was called or informed was when they were increasing the scope to include another part. Bottom line: they turned a two hour repair into an all day event (gave them the keys at 9:30 AM and completion was around 5:00 PM). The irony is that during the period I sent in the waiting room, the counter person complained to a parts vendor about lying and delays. Here's a direct quote; "In this business, time is money". However, the client is not extended that consideration. I will not be returning. One more thing. Based on my understanding, soliciting a service discount in return for good reviews is a violation of Yelp terms and conditions for businesses. They have gamed a true evaluation by "paying" for high reviews to offset the truth. read more

Short version: Overpriced, but great/mindful customer service. Long version: My starter went out on my '07 Accord. I did a quick google search on shops open on a Saturday and discovered Sun Auto. After I got my insurance to tow me to it ended up being about 3-3:30pm. After a diagnostic, the gentleman at the front counter told me that they could have me out the door with a new starter before closing if I agreed to pay for services right then and there. At this point it was either I pay the steep fee quoted or I would end up having to buy a rental for three days and waiting until Monday. I chose to purchase the service which ended up being the right decision. Going with my other option would have ended up causing me way more hassle and a little more money if not equal. I'm just amazed that Sun Auto was able to get me in and out with a new starter in less than an hour and a half right before closing on a Saturday. Thanks guys. read more

Two hours later I was called up to the counter and told I needed my brakes fixed & all of the fluid in the car switched out for the tune of $2000. Really? I asked what about the reason I came in here today? long story short...3hrs later I was told nothing was wrong with my car and it wasn't leaking oil and was charged $99.00. Took my truck in for its first oil change and specifically asked that they check/put air in the tires because the pressure light was on. When I got the truck back, the light was still on so I drove it around, which, if air has been added, will shut it off. Still on. I drive back and told the guy at the front desk and he said, "Well, we checked the tires and if the light is still on, you need to take it to a 'tire specialist' and get it looked at." No way! The truck was bought last summer and this was the first oil change! Before losing my mind, I just left. But when I got home, I checked the pressure in my tires and one of them was at 22 instead of 35. I called to speak to a manager and told him one of the tires was low. He replied, insisted, again, the tires WERE checked but could I do him a favor and come back so they can check their machine... maybe it needs to be recalibrated... Yeah, right. I went to a gas station, filled the tire and the light went off. WHAT A SHOCK! The point is, if I can't even trust this shop to check my tires, HOW in the hell do I know they correctly changed my oil and put in a new filter? I should have been warned right away when the guy at the desk asked me what kind of oil should they use... synthetic or a blend...I've had hundreds of oil changes done and have NEVER been asked. Isn't that up to the shop to determine the type needed for the vehicle? I'm sure the specs for a Nissan Frontier are easily procured. Never again will I go to this place where I was treated poorly and the work done ineptly! Be careful of shoddy workmanship and rude, dismissive men who will treat an elderly woman in this fashion! read more

I have always taken my Mitsubishi Outlander to a trusted lambs in Lakeway. However, when I came home from being out of town for a few days - I turned my car on and the sound coming from it was disturbing. I took it to my local sun auto as they are a sister company to lambs, and I did not want to drive it very far. Ryan was nice and called me the day after to let me know that my catalytic converter and O2 sensor was stolen from my car. However, they did not give me a paper with my quotes or the exact parts taken ( that lambs said I should have received and they quoted me 6,000 which several auto shops said is twice what it should be). I called back today to get the specific catalytic converter that was stolen (my main or secondary) and Jacob answered the phone. He was super rude. Told me that it was definitely my downstream catalytic converter because "that is the one always taken." Rather than looking at my cars specifics when I paid 126 for a diagnostic. I was very frustrated as I've been told others with the same make and model have been on an 8+ month waitlist for the parts. He said that "they could find these parts today." However I know this is not the case according to the 10+ auto shops I've called attempting to find these parts. He was incredibly rude and lambs confirmed that they did not handle my issue correctly. I am not one to post bad reviews, but with the week I had - I just couldn't believe the arrogance he showed on the phone, and the fact that he's spouting incorrect information. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Brought my truck in for a water pump replacement. Left with a broken turbo and check engine lights. Don't bring your car here!!!!! This is a response for the business customer service person: This place is probably just good for oil changes. I brought my truck in to get the water pump replaced with a protect check engine light on. That is because my vehicle overheated driving 8 blocks from my house to Sun Auto shop. This was Thursday the 26th around 9am. I picked up my truck that same day at 5:50pm. This is 10min before the shop closes. Then drove 8 blocks through 2 lights back to my house. This was with a repaired water pump and no check engine lights. The protect check engine light was cleared after the new water pump was installed. A hour later I drove to downtown Austin to do some work. That is when I realized the the boost in my eccoboost engine wasn't working. Remind you still no check engine lights. I drove it back home after working. This was a 60miles round trip and again no check engine lights. When I got home I checked the receipt. This is something I should have done before I left the shop but I didn't. That is when I realized a boost sensor was added. I brought my truck in for a new water pump. I didn't need a new boost sensor. I was back at your shop on Friday the 27th at 7am. Again still no check engine lights on my dash. I asked about the boost sensor and reported that my boost wasn't working at all. That's when the front counter associate informed me the mechanic broke my boost sensor during the water pump install. This is something they should have told me the day before. I waited 3 hours for them to fix something they messed up. After 1 failed test drive. I was informed that my boost was fixed, but now I have a cylinder 1 and 3 check engine light on. Andrian the manger tried to make is seem like the check engine lights was caused by the over heated engine on Thursday the 26th the previous morning. Which I informed him I drove 60miles after I picked my truck up. If a check engine light was going to pop. It would have popped within those 60 miles before I brought my truck back on Friday the 27th at 7am. That is when Andrian did his word dance and didn't want to take ownership of the mistake his mechanic made. I honestly didn't care that much about the mistake. Everybody makes mistakes it's not really a big deal. I was upset because Andrian wouldn't take ownership of the mistake. Andrian wanted to argue with me in the middle of the store like I did something wrong. I was misinformed of the broken boost sensor the first day and left with the boost not working. Then during the repair the next day the check engine lights pop but some reason that's my fault. I've never been treated like this. I paid my money for a service to be done. They got paid and I received a vehicle not 100% complete. I don't blame the mechanic or the front counter guys. They were all very polite. I blame Andrian the manager for this situation. He needs to do better with his customer services and taking ownership for the good and the bad. This dude argued with me a paying customer in the middle of the store. You can always tell when someone feels guilty for a wrong doing. He got so defensive right away. This was by far the worst consumer experience I've had in a long time. I hope a this get's back to Adrian because he needs to learn to do better and act appropriate to a paying customer. read more

I've been going to Sun Auto for many years. It's a little further away than some shops I've tried nearer to my home, but well worth it. Overall, auto repair can be a drag- for me it's about getting the most out of my family's vehicles over time. Alan and Adrien have worked with me over the years to help me accomplish that goal. Sometimes that's just getting regular oil changes and tire rotations, but other times it's evaluating larger repairs and prioritizing what needs to be done with my budget in mind. Through it all, Alan has always been courteous and professional, telling me my options, making recommendations, and letting me make the final decision. I couldn't really ask for more. One tip about scheduling service - always call ahead! I have found Sun Auto does their best to accommodate my schedule, but like any service organization, managing all customer needs can be difficult at times. Sometimes everything goes quickly, other times there are delays. But overall, I have been more than pleased at the effort this shop puts toward communicating with transparently about all aspects of my auto maintenance needs. read more

I came here with an appointment thinking I had one problem told by my dealership so I went looking for a cheaper price then after over an hour waiting they give me a laundry list of things I need fixed totaling well over 3k then I explained to the person I didn't have the funds and would seek a second opinion from the dealership just incase. They even gave us a ride back to our house and picked us up the next day after the car was fixed. It is rare to find competent mechanics who are also honest. They offer "free diagnostic for AC" on their website and when I went in, it was $130 for them to do a proper diagnostic. The guy at the front said that the free inspection is them just lifting the hood and visually taking a guess on what's wrong. What a bummer and SUPER misleading. Went in because our ac stopped blowing cold air one day, they charged us a diagnosis which was $121, and quoted us for a full a/c replacement (wasn't including the heating core?) And added a tune up for $3700. We said no way, so then they called back with oops the tune up isn't necessary but the full ac needs replacing because we don't know what's wrong with it so we need to just replace it for $2k. We said we need to get a second opinion. It took the other place less than an hour to figure out it needed a new compressor clutch and nothing else, it'll be a few hours of labor so it'll be $755. Through asking recommendations on Facebook and finding a place for a second opinion we found hundreds of people screwed over by this place. There's a great place by Mel's bowling that are much friendlier. And if you can make the drive there's an awesome place in temple we love. read more

Getting your car inspected is such a boring adult thing to do. Getting your boyfriends car inspected is a boring adult (good girlfriend move) thing to do. I was in South Austin looking for a spot and I saw their Yelp check in offer. The dudes at Sun Auto were super great. They waited around until I got the updated insurance card offline (they've got wifi) and then inspected the car quickly. They have windshield wipers onsite to replace them (which we needed) and it cost me $50 total. Sadly, you can't use your $5 off for inspection. County needs that money (I guess.) Air conditioned inside, vending machines, nice bathrooms, wifi and a super pleasant staff = one of the best inspection experiences I've had. read more

I understand that Tony believes the car wouldn't have passed with a light on - I do not understand the rudeness that was displayed. In front of another customer also. I'm not a mechanic first off but I had my first and last experience with Sun Auto last week. I took my car in to get diagnosed for an issue and my car sat unattended for an hour. 20 mins after it was taken in I was told one problem that the mechanic felt needed immediate attention. I obviously want any issues taken care of; the problem here is that they wouldn't perform the rest of the diagnoses without performing a $500 process. Then the mechanic said "IF, there isn't other problems you'll be fine but after we do the first part then we might find other issues". To a normal person this just sounded like my tab was going to get large very quickly. I went and had the car inspected by someone else and to my surprise (sarcasm) the issue Sun Auto mentioned wasn't even an issue. So this made a very negative impact on me. read more

This place is a total chop shop! If I could give them 0 stars I would! The people there are sketchy as HELL! I took my wife's car there for an inspection a couple weeks back and they failed it. We went and got everything repairs at another shop and brought it back and they failed it again. Said something was wrong with the power steering rack. This is all after the guy I spoke with 2 weeks ago there said its not part of their check but I should recommend getting it fixed. All of a sudden this week now it's part of the inspection process.
