Let's be clear about something when it comes to car maintenance of a car over 10 years old and 100K+ miles. It will be expensive. Period. Hopefully you find a good quality mechanic with fair prices, transparent with their findings, and can work in a timely manner. Auto Tek checks all those boxes. We took my son's 2012 Honda Civic for a maintenance visit. They found several things that needed attention (battery, brakes, bearings, etc.) Twenty two year olds can be responsible, but they don't always recognize when there's a weird noise, or the alignment is off. We got 2 pages of repairs done and it was a little under 3K. Yep, it's a lot, but still less than buying a new car and he will get a couple more years out of this car. read more

Auto Tek's stellar customer reviews did not disappoint! They diagnosed and repaired a bad A/C compressor for an Audi Q5. They credited the diagnosis fee to the service performed which is nice. They offer a decent warranty on their work. They are also flexible to offer parts options to help lower the total cost of repair. They say all of their techs have senior experience, and they were able to get my car in quickly- some other garages have wait times of up to a week. I checked their hourly rates, they are in line with other garages I have used in the past. They seem to have a very smooth and efficient system set up, they handle a lot of cars with the large garage space they have, and they do a good job communicating and providing updates. Convenient location for South Austin customers. They even sent me a follow up message after the repair- that was a first for me! I would recommend this garage for service and repair work. read more

Found my new go-to for auto repairs! After taking my Audi Q5 to the Audi dealership for a check engine light diagnostic and receiving a $5k estimate for a slew of random "immediate attention" repairs, I decided to try Auto Tek for a second opinion - and SO glad i did. I sent them everything Audi was recommending to me, 90% of which the guys at Auto Tek deemed unnecessary. The repairs I went through with ended up totaling me $700. They saved me from spending over $4k for things I don't even need. Will absolutely be bringing my car here for anything going forward and recommending to everyone I know. Michael and Brandon were incredible!! Would give 10 stars if I could. Thank you guys!! read more

This place is a breath of fresh air after experiences with Other Places. Friendly, didn't try to upsell, just explained clearly what was needed and might be needed at another time. I'll bring my cars here from now on! read more

My 13 year old Rav4 started having electrical issues for the first time and I had no idea where to go for service. I found this place on Yelp and admit it was the second shop I reached out to. The first place never responded to me, after days of various forms of contact. Being super frustrated when I submitted an estimate request to this place, I admit that I was very happy when I received a response within an hour! Long story short, everything was great. The service people were super nice and efficient. They ran a complete service check on my car and sent me a list of all recommendations, and I was very happy when they didn't pressure me when I pick and chose what to have done. I dropped off my car on a Thursday morning, and it was ready and fixed by Friday afternoon! I happens to be out of town when it was done, and they were very understanding and didn't complain about holding it until I returned a couple of days later. All on all, I had a great experience and would definitely go back in the future. read more

Continue to take my 2005 Element to this shop, for their integrity is is TOP NOTCH. My 'oil change' was NOT just any ordinary, 'oil change'. Everything was checked out. I have ALWAYS maintained my car, has been good to me, and she looks beutiful still, like new. So, I was surprised to have some ISSUES come back on y report. Even though I don't drive much these days, 74, they explained fully, and I left sad for the $$ that will have to leave my account, OF THEY CAN GET THE PARTS. I begged, for I TRUST them for any repairs. So, if you are searching for an honest to a goodness, place for your auto, THIS SHOULD BECOME YOUR #1 CHOICE. Family owned, and they treat you like family, well, better than some families . read more

I've been a loyal customer at Auto Tek since 2020! Everyone that works there is such a gem and takes their time to explain what's going on with your car. I never felt pressured to get any service done on my car, in fact, they helped me prioritize the services and repairs my car needed so that it fit into my budget in a timeline that worked best for me. I'm so appreciative of everything Auto Tek has done to take care of my car and HIGHLY recommend them! read more

Stop looking anywhere else and head straight to Auto Tek. After having a negative experience with a nearby dealership I did some searching on reddit and found glowing reviews of Auto Tek that amplified their existing reputation for honesty and quality. I decided to get a quote from them and it came with great customer service, competitive pricing, and honesty. I was assisted by Andreah and partially Judy who were both so incredibly kind and sweet. The team reviewed my car and gave honest feedback and quick work. I will not be heading back to dealerships unless absolutely necessary in the future. Thank you Auto Tek team! read more

Consummate professionals. My girlfriend has used them for years. They remember her and her vehicle. Even when we have to get the car serviced somewhere else out of convenience, we still call them to make sure we aren't getting taken advantage of, and they help out. They have also recommended DIY work we can do rather than paying their labor. They have never been dishonest, and are always very helpful and professional. The price is fair for the consistently high quality of workmanship and peace of mind you have when using them. read more

My favorite mechanic by far. The owner Aaron actually personally calls each customer to over the specifics of their car. The speed, level of attention and customer service is unparalleled. Much better than those corporate chains where the cost / labor seems to fluctuate based on your understanding. Love it!! read more

While the news I received on my car was not positive, I appreciate how transparent and throughout their inspection was. I've tried out this shop a couple of times as an alternative to the dealership service, since many dealerships send cars to their express shop for routine maintenance, and those techs typically aren't mechanics. That has been problematic in the past. This shop uses licensed mechanics instead of beginning technicians. Their price structure varies, but in general I've found their prices to be fairly comparable to what our particular dealerships charge. The service writers are friendly, helpful , and fairly knowledgeable, though I still didn't get to interface with or even see who was working on my car, which makes it harder to ask questions. They do provide a summary of the work with photos, and found some issues that the dealership had missed, also providing photos. A video or more detailed feedback would be even better. They always have a lot of cars in queue for service and stay really busy. The drawbacks are that it takes awhile to get an appointment, around two weeks, and that you can't wait on your car to be serviced. So you're going to need to leave your car and get a ride both ways. Most customers I saw use rideshare, since we were all waiting outside together. Overall I've been happy with their work and the pricing. I still go back and forth between the dealership and this shop, depending on what I need at the time. read more

We've taken our Mazda 6 to them twice, both times they figured out the fairly strange (unrelated) electrical problems, which is not easy to do. Price wasn't super cheap but I think it was fair. Auto Tek is really great! I had some issues with my car that firestone couldn't seem to fix or diagnose so they referred me to auto tek! The fellas at Auto Tek were so so so kind and had so much empathy for me and my car troubles. They were so determined to find and fix the problem and they did! I was so relieved they could help me and they were so happy to help. Would 100% recommend this business, especially if you have a serious or complex car issue. I can't believe my first review is a love letter to my auto shop but Auto Tek has long earned my immense praise after 6 years working on both cars I've owned in that time. Auto Tek is a class act from taking the appointment, reviewing issues & following up. Every single person working there is someone I want to have over for dinner or a beer haha. They are personable, cordial, thorough & patient in explaining car stuff to folks like me who don't have a clue. This starts at the very top with the owners of this family business. I can't recommend them enough, truly. For techies, they provide links by text &/or email detailing each issue they ID in their inspection in order of what needs to be done immediately, in the near future & in the not so distant future. They provide photos or videos of each issue and an itemized estimate with every detail explained. Prices are absolutely competitive especially for the class service. No pressure from them on any of it. Last year I brought my car to the dealer in between for an ongoing electrical issue I wanted a dealer to review and they simply charged me more for less. Auto Tek understands some folks can manage a few issues themselves, even me, but their costs for parts & labor are comparable enough to just have them get 'er done so you know it's done right & fair. They also follow up by text or email to see how it's going, if you've had any issues since or if anything new has cropped up. A real person actually responds back! Only the very best for my beloved ride to keep her sharp & safe as long as she can. Auto Tek every step of the way. read more

In March 2024 I took my son's car into Autotek to diagnose and repair my son's Nissan 350z. Among other things, they diagnosed issues with the rear suspension. During the repair, they told me the bearings needed to be replaced. I paid them to do so. The total repair job cost around $4500. Five months later the bearings failed again. I brought it back in and they honestly diagnosed several issues stemming from the failed bearings and agreed to fix them via warranty. While repairing it, they also uncovered another issue that could have possibly been preexisting, but also could have been caused by the last round of bearing failure. As they didn't diagnose it the first time, it was difficult to say. After some back-and-forth discussions about this, they ultimately ended up repairing this issue too. Although we did not see eye to eye at first, I found them to be reasonable after I thoroughly explained the situation from my point of view. Although Autotek is a business and therefore must turn a profit, from this interaction I believe they have an eye towards being in business for the long run by being trustworthy and honoring their word. read more

Only Auto Tek can do a perfect 4-wheel alignment on my Toyota Avalon. They got it perfect. This is after the dealer totally failed. The prices were fair. read more

WOW. This place is the Apple Genius Bar of car repair service. Not only do they provide outstanding mechanic work, but they also walk you through everything they've discovered about your car, what your options are, and what they recommend. Their communication is clear and friendly and you can tell they're experts and LOVE what they do. How it works: After they check out your car, they send you a text message with a link that takes you to a site where each issue is clearly documented and explained. Then when you call to approve the work and schedule a time to pick up your car, they're happy to answer any question in whatever level of detail you prefer. Want to nerd out on engine talk? They're here for it. Just need the basics and a little reassurance that everything will be ok? They got you. If Car Talk on NPR ever gets resurrected for a new season, I'm 100% recommending these guys as the next hosts. Thank you Auto Tek! read more

I have an older Mercedes SUV and I'm so thrilled that I found the talented and professional team at auto Tech. Dropped off my vehicle to have the AC checked as it was blowing warm. Also had them check out a rattling noise as well as updated inspection. They needed to keep my vehicle for repair for a few days but sent me thorough notes and photos of all proposed work. The service technician explained all the items that they found and help me prioritize which repairs were critical. This review isn't necessarily based on the work Auto Tek performed for me (they've worked on my vehicles before and did great work!) but their absolute INCREDIBLE customer service and kindness to me. I had gone to auto tek for a check engine light and they performed a systems check on my car. When it was returned to me and I received my estimate, I'm not going to lie, I went and shopped around other places and I was able to find the work quoted for about $200 cheaper elsewhere - here's why that was a MASSIVE mistake. When I brought my car to the other mechanic, they ended up "finding something else" (did it actually need fixing? Who knows) and they charged me $700 MORE than what autotek had quoted me. Not only that, less than one week later, the battery on my car was dead and I had been yelled at by the other mechanic when I tried to understand how this could happen. That mechanic then got furious and yelled at me, saying I was accusing him of ruining my battery. I wasn't accusing him but I was definitely skeptical after he started yelling. I called auto tek back as they had originally run the test and I wanted to see if they'd made any notes about the battery going bad. When I got on the phone, I was treated with such kindness and help. I spoke with Aaron and I was actually a mess by that point and he reassured me that I had the right to be skeptical of the first shop and that my concerns about my car were valid. He sat with me on the phone while I tried to understand what could have happened. He suggested that he would take a look at the car if I brought it back in and he was just so kind and helpful on the phone. He took about 10 minutes just to listen and comfort me after being so accosted by the other mechanic. All of that to say, I will never take my car to another mechanic. Thank you for being such kind and positive people. read more

Auto Tek is by far the best auto shop in Austin. Aaron and the staff are incredibly friendly and always super professional. I've had a few old cars that needed work and they always come through without all the sales pitches. I had brought one of my cars in for a repair and Aaron gave me an estimated quote. Once the car was finished I showed up to pay and the price was higher than expected. Aaron heard this and simply said "no I told him it would be a different price so we will honor that". I have always trusted them since and recommend everyone looking for a shop to come here and I always will. read more

These guys were totally amazing! I just moved here and had to go by previous reviews to pick a shop. Auto Tek did not disappoint! After getting new tires, shocks, brakes and a full alignment at a shop a few thousand miles ago, my Toyota Tundra still had a nasty front end shake. I suspected the tie rods. These guys spent a good couple hours looking over the truck and marking down everything that needs to be repaired/replaced. Fortunately it was mostly little lightbulbs that I took care of on my own later. They found nothing wrong other than some vibration and took it across the street to Discount Tire (as I originally bought the tires from another Disount Tire location). Those guys went ahead and re-balanced all the tires and found one of them was off. They called me to tell me that the owner of Auto Tek took my truck for a drive and everything seem to be fine. When I came to pick it up, they told me that I did not owe them anything as they do a courtesy inspection for all new customers! These guys will get any and all repair work that I needed any of my vehicles and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a skilled and reputable shop. read more

I've gone to Autotek twice. Today there was a miscommunication around the oil change. Have you ever been at an oil change/to a mechanic who has said "your car is fine, here is your keys" and hasn't tried to tell you your AC belt is thin, tire treads are worn, unicorn gasket is full...? I haven't: until I came here. I tried Auto Tek because of all the great Yelp reviews and now have my own to join to the chorus. I made an appointment, dropped off my car, picked it up at the right time and that was that. The guys were friendly and super courteous at the front desk, told me my car had no problems whatsoever, and sent me on my way. About $40 for my oil change and that was that. I called this morning to inquire about getting my state inspection done today (27th of the month, I expect them to be busy). Took my vehicle in and it was finished within 45 mins. Fast and friendly service. read more

Could it be a pleasure to deal with an auto mechanic? You'll say yes after opening their door and yourself to their benevolent guidance through the steep slopes of automotive problems. My trust is hard to earn but they've done it. My only caveat is they follow the traditional path of using new parts so for older cars, this can become unsustainable. Also their popularity makes their schedule less free than I'd like. That's Austin now. Proceed, and they will help your ride run smooth and readily. read more

It's very rare I find a place that I wish I could give more stars to but Auto Tek is one of the few. I needed work done on my car and just moved here so didn't know where to go and was nervous since auto shops can have seedy reputations but Auto Tek came highly rated on Yelp and for good reason! From car drop off to Aaron (manager) texting me a month later to follow up and make sure everything was working smoothly, I had the best experience! They have a shuttle service, a really nice waiting room, and were quick to repair my car. I received an email the next day detailing out the work that needed to be done and they attached videos to illustrate the specifics. Also included was the name of the mechanic who ran the diagnostic test. I appreciated the transparency and when Aaron called to tell me they were finished he was so patient with me and explained everything they did in a way I could understand.
