I'm very disappointed in my experience with Austin Auto Repair. They first quoted me $400 to get my car fixed and after almost 3 months of them having my car.....I finally got it back and it was almost $4000! When I finally got my car back, I noticed some parts of my hood were discolored. I figured it was dirt, because when I picked up my car it was outside with a dozen other cars....in the sun. How long had it been sitting in the heat? After getting my car detailed, the spots were still there. I called and the owner said there was nothing he could do. I'll pretty sure my car was outside most of the time it was there. Those spots weren't there when I had to towed to them. Now I have to spend more money to get it my car repainted! Don't take your car here!! I wish I could give them ZERO stars! read more

This is one of the best service shops I've ever been to. They went above and beyond to give me service that is very hard to find these days. Not only did they do a great job servicing my car, but they offered to take my car for it's yearly inspection as a courtesy service. The problem was that it was raining and I had the wrong auto insurance card in the card. They ended up taking the car to get inspected 3 times before the rain stopped and I emailed them the right insurance card. Really incredible service. Highly recommend. read more

I just moved to Austin and almost the first day of being here my "check engine light" came on. I had no clue where to take it so I turned to Yelp to figure that out. Austin Auto Repair, with a 5 star rating, seemed like the place to go. I called them and made an appointment and dropped my vehicle off the next morning around 9am. By noon the shop called me and told me exactly what was wrong with my vehicle, an estimated time it would be ready, and exactly how much it would be down to the penny. They did the repair and by 5pm I had my car back all fixed and ready to go. Communication with the repair shop was excellent, and the price was fair as well. I'm so thankful I found a great mechanic shop my very first week in Austin. I'll be taking both of my vehicles here for everything from the big to the little stuff. I had a great experience with Gary and team when my car started giving ac trouble. Even though the intermittent cooling issue was hard to root cause, they had the patience to listen to me and recheck the ac system. They ended up staying past closing time on Friday so they could recover and recharge the ac system. Its been 3 weeks and I haven't had an issue with the ac since then. This is the BEST automotive place I have EVER gone to. I have had Gary work on two of my Lexus, a Town and Country mini van and a Cadillac over the last 17 years! He is amazing. I admit that I have used Lambs auto for some repairs (ONLY because they are close), but they are MUCH more expensive, usually have to do the job twice (get it right the 2nd time), and on some complicated jobs they have to refer it out. However, whenever I have something major (air conditioning, electrical (that Lambs couldn't solve), air shocks (where Gary found some terrific savings), or anything in between that was not basic repairs--I made the drive to Gary's (about 25 minutes from Westlake). He is a master of his profession, impeccably honest (it's just who he is), but also practical--he tells what might wait and what has to be done (or it is dangerous) and what all the options are. The main thing is he doesn't miss anything--his analysis is superb and he does the job right the first time--every time. As a mechanic he is EXCELLENT. As an electrical expert he is EXCELLENT. So I bought an Amazonlocal.com (powered by LivingSocial) deal that pinpointed Austin Auto Repair having an A/C tune up special for $42 ($100 worth of work) which included adding refrigerant and a 30-point inspection of the A/C system. My Honda Ridgeline had been getting by for a couple of months not blowing a whole lot of cool air anymore, and luckily for us it didn't just start getting hot again until this month. Typically it's in the 100's by May but this year weather was a little unusual in this area of Texas. I made an appointment with these guys for June 19, 2014. I brought the Ridgeline in, told them about the problem, showed them the amazonlocal.com deal, and in less than half an hour, the truck was ready to go. Cold air blew out of those vents in the cabin and I forgot how cool the air could be in there, since I had gone a couple months without it. Just now posting this review as of today, but so far, the A/C has been working fine and I really appreciate the fine job done by the folks running this business. I do most of my own repairs, but there are things that I don't feel comfortable tackling. Integrated brake rotors/hubs on my giant F350 is one of them. After three years of missing Peggy at Ray's Garage after her retirement, it was time to find a new, trusted mechanic. Based on location and good Angie's List / Yelp recommendations, I called Austin Auto Repair to replace my rotors and pads with some eBay replacements I had bought. They were able to take my truck the next morning. They called me throughout the day, offering many opportunities to save money and make sure I wanted to install these new components, even though they might not be needed. Brought truck in as it was overheating & AC didn't work. Picked it up after paying $2000. Which is a lot of money for us. AC did not work & truck overheated. Took it back immediately-they were really nice about it. Picked it up again. AC did work-we were told guy drove it & all was well. STILL overheating. Took it back. They Could not fix it. Wanted another $500 to go into water pump to see if that was the problem. I know people must be paid for work but I'm unclear why I paid $2000 for a truck we can not use. But the AC works The previous shop-Jerry Dixon's kept ir for several weeks. Kept saying they'd look at it 'Monday' but never got around to it. I'm happy y'all agreed to check it out. And did! You also kept up w updates which is good customer services. So I'm updating to 3 stars The 1000 for AC was well earned. It sits in driveway & I've absolutely no idea what to do about it read more

My car had sat at their shop in the parking lot for 5 months without any work done to it. I had called numerous times within this time period to check the progress of my vehicle which they had assured me the car would be at least started. They never required a down payment or any money upfront as far as I'm aware. There was no mention of any money to be put down before work could be done to my car nor was there a requirement to do so. I assumed the work would be done and then we would pay for the said work that would have been done. We also had a code reader connected to the obd2 scanner and it was lost in there supervision but they did reimburse us for the lost code scanner in full. I don't know if they required money to proceed with work on my vehicle but it was never said. They did mention that they were short handed on mechanics and were considerably behind schedule, which I fully understand. I can't help but think why my car sat so long considering they are short handed and being behind schedule, that didn't seem to stop them from working on other vehicles. This has lead me to believe it was a money issue. Again there was no mention or requirement of a pre payment or down payment, this leaves me thoroughly confused. If a down payment were required that would have been fine just tell me so we could have proceeded but things did not work out as intended unfortunately. I do not hold any grudges against the company and I honestly respect the employees and managers of Austin auto. I just believe this is critical information for people who don't appear to be wealthy or have money because to me money seemed to have been the issue. Last note, we also wasted 100$ on a tow to bring the car to the lot. But again I respect all the employees at Austin auto and I hope the best for them in the future. read more

Not only were Gary and Joe incredibly friendly, you can tell they truly care about the quality of work they do, all at a very reasonable price! I brought my truck in for an oil change, and Joe ended up catching that my radiator was leaking! He also ended up fixing my hood lift support without me having to ask (2 other previous mechanics did not fix it for me even after asking). I feel so confident in the work he did. I moved from DC 2 years ago and didn't have a reliable mechanic. My check engine light came on and I've been going to Groovy Automotive on Slaughter for oil changes so I thought I would try them. They ran a diagnosis (charged me $100) and said I would need repairs totaling about $550. I ran it by my father who owned his own business and has been a mechanic for over 40 years, (unfortunately he lives in PA) and based on the diagnosis said there's no way it should cost that much. I did some research on yelp and called a couple different places when I found Austin Auto repair. They gave me a quote over the phone for around $330 and said to come in when I was ready. Less then 3 hours later the job was done and came in UNDER budget for around $220. They were honest, didn't try to add on extra time or products like groovy did, and super efficient.
