Friendliness is a bonus, but finding an honest mechanic who offers several options is a must have for my family. We had a complicated fix on a 4x4 and Hank gave we several options and an realistic approach. It was going to be expensive, which I knew, but he put me at ease with a budget minded and logical approach. He was reasonable, explained the need and got it done in a timely manner. They tried to charge me over $1,000 for something I was able to do on my own for less than $300. One of the line items was for clearing leaves from around the engine. I was able to do this by myself in about 10 seconds with a leaf blower. They also tried to me over $2,000 to replace the engine mounts and trans mount. I can't do that myself, but parts are under $200 on Amazon. I can't see how labor costs could exceed $1,800 on a job like that. I also had to ask questions several times to get a straight answer. My daughter took her car here. They called her and told what was wrong with car and that it would cost $400.00 when she went to pick it up It was not $400.00 it was $1400.00 for 3 parts and labor. That is ridiculous!! So crazy story that he had to only use dealer parts but how do we know that. He didn't bother to show us old parts. I am not recommending this place. read more

Tried getting a fleet vehicle inspected and they needed to see proof of insurance to get in the "queue". I procured proof of insurance and went back inside and the service agent required a VIN specific proof of insurance to inspect this vehicle. I have never once had this required including all of my other fleet drivers. They didn't mention this over the phone either. read more

I've been to Oak Hill three times. Once for a sensor replacement, which they were willing to do based on my own diagnosis. Then for an alternator/battery replacement and again for shocks, sway bars, etc. Each time I was able to interact with the owner, who seems like an honest guy. I also appreciate that he's present at the shop. They do quality work and were also able to recommend a good auto body place nearby. Oak Hill isn't the cheapest place around, but I have an older car that I want to last, and would rather pay a bit more for a job done with integrity. Certainly, visiting auto shops isn't always the greatest experience and can hurt the wallet, but I feel good about Oak Hill and will make it my regular shop. read more

It turns out there's only so many times you can patch the same hole. Hank charged me $1300 for repairs that did not need to be made and then quoted me another $3000 in guesses of what it could be after he did not even fix the problem. I took my car to Howdy Honda after getting a bad gut feeling that I was being taken advantage of financially as an 24 year old girl and I was right. This auto shop is in sales and not in the business of fixing your car... I would know I'm in sales. Please please please do not go here if you value your time and money. Once again, Oak Hill Automotive has saved our bacon! This is why, having trusted them for more than 20 years, we would not take a vehicle anywhere else. My visiting niece arrived from Minnesota in her Subaru with 189,000 miles on it and totally metal-to-metal rusted brakes from winters of salted roads and freezing weather. Honest, reliable good people. They aren't going to be the cheapest folks in town, but they more than make up for it in honesty. There have been a number of times that I thought I needed something and they told me to wait or that there is a better way to fix it (saving me money and time). Another way they save time: they often call the dealership for me to figure out what is under warranty and what isn't. I think conservatively they have saved me several thousand bucks. I came in here to get my brakes fixed this past summer. I used to have a volkswagen and i would always go to VeeDub, (who are AMAZING) but now I have a honda (and VeeDub doesn't work on Hondas) and ended up over here. Terrible. I will never go back. I went in for a brake job, and I got preached to about being a couple months pass my scheduled oil change, and they tried to tell me my axle was broken and it wasn't covered under my warranty. Well... 1. my axle was not broken. 2. it WAS covered under warranty, had that been the problem. 3. I didn't go in there for an oil change (yes, I needed one but not my main concern when my brakes were falling apart). 4. The price they gave me on the brake job was about $100 more than anywhere else. I left and ended up going to Lugnutz on Manchaca, and they gave me a good deal on the brakes and were super nice and fast. I will never recommend anyone coming here. Ever. read more

Initially speaking to one of the guys over the phone they came off as somewhat rude when asked how long it would take, they knew i would get my car towed here and urgently needed to get back on the road for holiday travel. Ultimately in a 2006 corolla - they charged me 505 for a test after i said it was a starter issue bit they needed to verify aka lets upsell a buncha other things and also wont use "cheap parts" and will order from toyota in which these guys arent even a toyota shop.. nonetheless as its done they mentioned there coukd possibly be issues in the future and then we may need to fine tune.. it sucks because living in houston i had a trust mechanic and now it sucks dealing with someone u have no rapport with and trying to take advantage . $505 for a started on a 2006 corolla, think about it.. learn from my lesson and go elsewhere - prior to coming i tried to get pricing and he never called be back initially and the tow truck unexpectedly came earier than expected so i just bit the bullet. Took my Land Rover discovery in to get some work done. The box that holds the transmission gears was broken. Oak Hill Automotive quoted me $5000. FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. They were insistent that it needed an entirely new transmission and that was the lowest cost i would find. Well, they could not have been more WRONG. i did not need a new transmission at all, i had my vehicle towed to a facility in Johnson City who specializes in transmissions. They fixed my Land Rover for a TOTAL cost of $900. Either this place does not know what they are doing, OR they try to rip people off. I don't know which is worse. This place is extremely overpriced and a rip-off. I was wayyy overquoted and penny-and-dimed for stuff I could do myself (I, being a 21 year old girl that has NO maintenance experience). First, I was quoted $1,575 for your typical required maintenance, which was way more than I expected. So I took it to a different shop that quoted me less than half of what Oak Hill Automotive quoted. Not to mention, the repairman at Oak Hill was nice at the beginning but gave me attitude when I told him I wanted to get it checked out somewhere else, telling me to "Listen up..." about why he was so pricy. Also, a quick inspection is all that I asked him to do and he took the entire day to do it. When I got the call, he made sure to let me know that he closed in 30 minutes. Second: Like I said, I'm a 21 year old girl that is so tired of being ripped off by auto repairmen. Steve quoted me $80 for a cabin air filter change, saying that it would take him and his men 30 minutes to install. It took me ten minutes tops, as I watched how to install it from a video on YouTube, and the air filter itself was 18 bucks. Previously, the only I had known how to do was change a tire. Don't go here unless you're willing to drop a pretty penny on car maintenance for no reason. read more

Updating review (hopefully it shows both) but the first time I brought my car there , Steve helped me out greatly and gave a me an awesome price ($350) whereas the guys down the street wanted $1,000 but anyways... I recently took my Jeep Patriot in after hitting a curb going pretty fast in the dark (I'm an idiot I know) and I only figured my tire was popped and my alignment was off. So I brought it in (dealing with Hank this time) and he called me back 2 hours later explaining all of the damage I'd done and that it'd be smart to just make an insurance claim. I was very discouraged to say the least (it was my birthday) So i filed a claim & from the beginning had issues with insurance people and I have USAA (supposedly one of the best) So Hank decided to take charge and deal with insurance company himself. He sat on the phone with me for long periods of time just trying to help me get everything down correctly. Hank basically did EVERYTHING for me. I couldn't thank him enough. I have been to Oak Hill Automotive on three occasions. The first two were to request a routine inspection. The third was for maintenance. During my inspection, Hank Amor noticed that I had a tire light on and took the initiative to examine the issue. He discovered I had a nail in the tire. With that, he offered to repair the tire which he did. During my maintenance visit, Hank reported that his team adjusted/fixed the problem I had with my vehicle and while they were at it, they also took the initiative to check my spare tire and fill it with additional air which it needed. That is the kind of initiative that I appreciate from any company that provides service to my vehicle. In short, they care about their customers and know that none of us want to be on the side of the road late at night due to a safety hazard with the car we drive. Incidentally, when I visited the firm for an inspection, a woman in the waiting room told me she's been having her vehicles serviced by this firm for 11 years. Is there any wonder why??? As the first one in for an emissions check on the last day of the month, it couldn't have gone any better. I hardly had time to get my laptop set up to take advantage of their free wifi (ask for the password) before they told me they were finished. Everyone was very friendly and polite - always "yes ma'am" "no ma'am" "thank you". They'll indulge in conversation if you start it, but otherwise they're pleasant and quiet (or maybe that was just the time of day - 8:00AM). I tried to ask a pointed question about the vehicle inspection (as I'm new to the state), but he was more interested in cutting me off to tell me I couldn't get service until 2:00 pm (which was fine, I just wanted to ask a simple question but wasn't allowed to even complete a sentence). A few months ago I took our vehicle in to try to figure out what a wrench code on our dash was for. After keeping our truck for two weeks and many thousand and dollars later he was unable to figure it out. NOW yesterday when my truck began running really bad and had no power I ended broke down up at another shop. Within an couple of hours I was shown what caused the problem. It was the #7 and #3 injector wiring They found that the wires were spliced and bald. They showed me the two wiring going to the modules to which had been spliced together. So to repair this it cost me 642.00. Then upon driving off my vehicle wasn't running smoothly. SO I drive right back to the shop. They found another problem! The wiring harness for the fuel pump had ALSO been spliced and one wire was completely not connected. Another 272.00 for a new harness to replace the spliced one and 1 hour for labor at 137.99. SO now I have spent in two days nearly 1200.00 to repair Oak Hill Automotive screwups And guess what??? I still have the wrench on my dash and no repair costing me close to 4700.00. I was shocked more by the fact that Hank handed me the invoice charging me and didn't no fix my problem. Never again will I get the shaft for shitty work. read more

Horrible service!! I went there for inspection, and they told me inspection would take 45 minutes. OK, being a patient customer and still having 50 minutes to rush to the county office made it not that bad. 45 minutes passed, my car was still in the parking lot. Finally it took me 1 hr for a inspection and the county office had already shut down!!! I complained and they said, " YOU COULD CHOOSE ANOTHER INSPECTION STATION NEXT TIME.
