AVOID THIS PLACE if you need your money & care about your vehicle. This shop provided me with multiple conflicting quotes that reflected them lying to me about what my vehicle needed. I brought my vehicle to this shop for an annual emissions inspection ONLY, which took them 45 minutes to complete, even despite there only being 1 car ahead of me (already being worked on). After 45 minutes, I was provided with paperwork reflecting a long list of parts being passed as non-issues as well as a couple of quotes for other parts needing repairs. After receiving an offer, I asked them to investigate further on 1 of the issues, which they did. I was approached again with lots of quotes for things that need repairs... some of them conflicted with the paperwork they had already given me claiming that those were non-issues (WTF?!?). This shop gave me stupid high price quotes for work that even the dealership quoted me much lower for. I won't go to the dealership either, though since they also lie all of the time. I've read other reviews for this place as well, and consulted other shops....THIS PLACE SHOULD 100% GO UNDER!!! All they care about is money, not customer satisfaction or safety. read more

I recently had an appointment for an oil change that did take longer than expected due to staff shortage but they completely covered the cost and understand the Inconvenience. I've been waiting to post this review because I really believed this franchise was solid and reliable but after spending over 5000 dollars on repairs and my vehicle was still in the same condition as it was when I initially brought it in. My issue initially was my AC blowing hot. They said the culprit and main cause and a needed repair would be replacing my AC compressor. I agreed. Few days later, it was blowing hot air again. Brought it back and they did the same checks. Now they discovered a hose that needs replacing- which had no problems prior and how was this not caught after completing the AC compressor replacement. What do you know, few days later the AC is blowing hot again. I bring the car back in and they are saying I need an evaporator core and some other hosing which was upwards of $2500. They also mentioned my battery was dead because of them having it on constantly- which was a lie. The battery was in great condition, and even if the battery were to be low power or problematic, why wouldn't Sun Auto help out with recharging / remedying the issue in the first place after I just spent $3000+ for the AC Compressor. It's wild, even the AutoZone team member said the same thing. Anyways, I declined the work because at this point I didn't have the money nor did I have trust in their capabilities to actually fix it. They probably would have kept adding on more and more repairs. So here's the thing, I had my mechanic friend come take a look and a majority of the problems listed in diagnostics were incorrect and predatory. All he had to do was tighten some valves on the newly replaced hose which fixed the AC as well as assisted me in my alignment issue that I had brought my car in for before. (How do you have mechanics that can't even properly seal the valves on a hose?) Overall, this is a very unprofessional business that is predatory and will take advantage of you. (The teamwork / coordination is terrible, no one there knows what is going on with your vehicle and are uninformed about appointments and services which makes the customer feel neglected, especially after the fact of booking appointments prior, listing my issues and what has been worked on and they would never be able to locate and make use of previous diagnostics. TLDR: Sun Auto overcharges for repairs that don't actually fix the issue and also miss other issues in the process, or possibly create more issues for your vehicle during the repair process. Bring your business elsewhere, these guys are not truthful and unprofessional. read more

I came to Sun Auto for brakes lights out on a new to me car. I thought it was the switch but turned out to be the wrong brake light bulbs! They fit me in the same day and I was able to pick my car up before they closed. They were great to work with, communication was clear, and Tony was an awesome help! I brought in a 2013 Ford Edge to sun Auto August (2024). The save battery warning kept coming on and would kill my battery. They replaced the alternator and I also had them replace the motor in my passenger side window. When I got my car home the passenger door wouldn't lock and evidently they didn't know how to replace the window motor so they took off the driver door panel to figure it out loosing the lock cap on my drivers door. Had to bring it back again for them to find one from a junkyard and replace it and repair the locking mechanism on the passenger door. A couple months later the save battery warning started coming on again so I had to bring it back again. I was told that they didn't know why and I would have to take it to the dealer. (I just paid $3,500 to them for this repair + window motor). I'm not a mechanic obviously but did a search on YouTube and found that it was the EBS. Which I have a feeling was the problem in the first place, not the alternator. I had them unplug the EBS and have no further issues. However... Now just a couple months later I open my hood to add windshield washer fluid and find that my engine cover is broken. No one else has opened the engine hood since Sun Auto worked on it. I had to leave my car there for over a week total and evidently I have to check to see what is missing or broken every time I had to bring it back to them. I used to love this shop 4-5 years ago and recommended many friends to them but over the last few years have had nothing but headaches from dealing with Sun Auto. I definitely will find a different shop and recommend that if you do use them you do a thorough inspection of whatever work they do before leaving the shop for missing/broken parts. The fact that they know they did damage to my car and left it for me to find is outrageous. Twice! Not to mention the I don't know what's wrong with your car issue and you need to take it to the dealership after we just did a major costly repair that didn't fix it. read more

I'm just writing a review as a fair warning to everyone before they go in. If you make an appointment for a state inspection, even though it's on their website please be aware they will not honor your appointment. Which is fine. But it's really the fact I called in and asked about my appointment even asked for the wait time. And the fact they didn't say anything on the phone is what bothers me. I had to drive there, come in, after I called. For them to tell me my appointment doesn't count and it's a two hour wait. Not good service. Would have much preferred the warning over the phone when I called to ask about said appointment. It is truly a pure waste of time to know this. And still not tell someone until they walked in. So I left and went somewhere with a much shorter wait time without an appointment. The guy inside was nice though. read more

Having an appointment wouldn't hurt because most of their bays were full by mid-morning, but they do accept walk-ins! They've got seats, snacks, and wifi while you wait, or you can walk around next door to grab some food at a nearby spot. They recommended several potential service suggestions for the vehicle based on prior Carfax report, and I appreciate that they didn't come off as overly pushy/salesy. I've been jumping through hoops with this car given the amount of paperwork, and the people here really made my day with their efficiency. Not only were all the guys so sweet and excited to talk about my Japanese imported car, but they got my inspection done super speedily. I would give zero stars if I could. Went in with oil pan issue. Cost me 2k Not once did they communicate with us outside the shop and me and my wife had to call 3 days to see the status. I'm paying probably 1k in just labor.. for that service they ate about to owe me. We called and were told it's ready.. again WE called. I took my 2020 Chevy Silverado to the dealership, to get a tune it. They kept it for a little over 2 weeks, they kept giving me the run around. I notified Sun Auto, Spoke with Josh at the Slaughter Lane location. He arranged a tow from the dealership. I informed him what issues I was having from the dealership. By the end of the day he informed me what was wrong with the my truck and how much it was going to cost' The dealership wanted to literally pull apart the engine on my truck and take out the valves potentially costing me 1000's of more dollars. And the report that he send was so comprehensive that I recommended for you guys to do a YOUTUBE channel. I take my truck there for oil changes and inspections regularly. I would give 5 but let me explain. Customer service is great. Allan has been assisting me in my services for a while now. I will say to MAKE SURE before you drop off your vehicle they have all parts, kits, etc. ordered and in-house. I have been inconvenienced a few times already with spending money on Ubers to get from point A to point B only for my services to be rescheduled or pushed to the next day. The times I've dropped off my vehicle it's been sitting there not being worked on just waiting for parts to get ordered etc. (which is fine) but it's not put into consideration (unless you express the need for your vehicle ASAP) that people need their cars. Allan was very receptive to my needs and customer service is great but make sure to ask questions and do research on parts (on their end) to see if they have them in-house or can source them is NECESSARY BEFORE having the client drop off their car. Overall a great place and will be coming back. Just need more practice in time management and being reasonable when asking clients to drop off their vehicles especially if you don't have the parts ordered. read more

On12/18/25 at around 830 am I took my car for service repair to Sun Auto Service at 405 W Slaughter Ln. They quoted me $1,100 for the needed repair. I was also told that I would get the military discount. At that time I agreed with the quote. They also informed me that my car would be ready by 3-4 pm on the same day. Later on the day they call me that I need a new oil pan and that it will be an additional $465.00 for the part. I was shock at the price for the needed part. At the time I agreed. The next day a friend told to look for the part prices on the internet. I did and came to find out that the average price of the part was $115.00, that's 75% of what they were charging me. I'm They never call me to let me know the status of my car. I was the one calling to find out about it. The following day on 12/19 I called again at around 8:30 am and was told that the car was going to be ready at 10am. Again no one call. So I called again at around 2:30pm and was told that the car was ready. Upon my arrival at the shop I told the service advisor that I felt that they are ripping me off due to the fact that they are overcharging me 75% more for the actual price of the part. I requested to speak with the manager, he came over and I explained the whole situation. He told that the computer automatically is showing the part prices and that the only thing he can do was to meet me half way on the part price. That's still over $200 over for a part that cost $115. I Informed him that what they are doing is not right. That they shouldn't be ripping people off like that. Also they never gave me the military discount. The manager said that they could only offer one discount. I don't recommend this shop and if you decide to go, hold on to your wallet. Stay away from it!!!!! read more

Bad customer service. I saw an ad for a discount oil change online, so I called Sun Auto to make an appointment. They told me to come in, but when I arrived I was challenged about the definition of an appointment ‍. Apparently calling in and being told to come right now isn't the same as "an appointment," and it was gonna be a three-hour wait. Because I'm gonna hang at Luby's for three hours... No thanks, definitely not coming back. I ended up down the street at Midas with great customer service, and for less than $20. read more

I took my car in because my check engine light was on, the hose connector for my windshield wiper fluid was broke and sound control buttons on my steering wheel weren't working. They told me I need to replace my intake manifold, need a new steering wheel and about 4 other items needed work on and it would cost me $4,200 to fix it all with no mention of fixing my windshield hose connector.... When I went to pick up my car, the steering wheel buttons were working again so I decided to get another opinion on the remaining issues because it didn't make sense. The other repair shop did a full diagnostic and determined I had an engine coolant leak, needed to replace my sparkplugs and replace my hose connector. They fixed it all for $523 and came to my house to do it!!! Do not go here for service work, ESPECIALLY if you are a female. They will try to scam you out of thousands of dollars read more

Deceiving and lies, that's how they do business. Worst experience ever! After charging me more than $2800 to fix my car, they returned it with the same check engine sign on and told me to go the dealer to figure out what is wrong with my car and I still had to pay close to $2900 dollars! I went to them since they were located next to my home. Boy, do I regret it!! After 3 days and more than $2800 dollars later they returned the car with the same condition it was in for at the first place. Their whole team from the service advisor to the mechanic to the store manager all are consist of bunch of liars and incompetent employees whose only job is to rip off customers, lying and deceiving them. How would you feel if a service advisor tells you that they didn't run a check engine diagnostic after keeping the car for 3 days and "apparently" fixing it for the check engine light !?! You would think that would be the first thing they would do to figure out the problem. Not at Sun Autos, they don't. They were so quick to tell me all the imaginary things that was wrong with my car and needed to be fixed and gave me an estimate which kept going up next three days until they got caught with their own ineptitude and realized they don't know how to fix this car. And I am left bearing the burn of their sheer incompetence. After spending more than $2800, I'm still left with a car that can't be driven safely. So.... I've been coming here for years. The past few times, however, I've not had the best experience. For instance, one recent time, I told management that I was using a coupon for a basic oil change. He instructed me to present the actual coupon at checkout. When I went to check out, another manger was present and gave me an EXTREMELY hard time about accepting the coupon because I didn't present the coupon prior to the oil change. I kindly explained that the other manger instructed otherwise but getting this fellow to accept the coupon was like pulling teeth with tiny, tiny pliers. He finally acknowledged it after I told him I could not pay the larger, unexpected amount . I told myself that I wouldn't post a review about the emotionally and mentally trying experience. But then, I came in today with an appointment for the same basic oil change I've been getting for years and met the same manager and another that I've checked in with before. Unfortunately, both were very curt and nice-nasty, which was terribly off-putting. Additionally, the one told me that I need more oil in my car. I've never been told that before and I've been coming here for years. I have a small SUV so that's entirely possible but because of previous poor experiences, and again, no one ever mentioning this in previous years, it just felt that he was pulling the wool over me eyes and trumping up charges, which can happen to women folk, folks with no car knowledge, and if they don't like you (I'm in the first and last group of folk). He did clarify that I wouldn't have to pay more but the fear of what they may 'really be up to', immediately set me off (In my mind only. I didn't go all ape crap). In their defence, I haven't really spent time with Jesus today so I'm 'easily' flustered. I'll tell ya, spending time with Jesus puts you in the right frame of mind and helps you to love and be patient with even those very difficult to love and be patient with. God gives drug-like peace, for lack of a better term, which helps you to cope in wretchedly frustrating situations like these and ALSO helps you to realize the error in your own ways and acknowledge your faults. End of sermon. So, I've just come to expect the worse with these guys and I'm worried about the wild things they're going to do and tell me next or that, out of retaliation, they'll jack with with my car or take EXTRA long on my oil change (which they've also done recently, like 3+ hours wait!) SOOOOOO super frustrating! Listen, I get that the guys who actually do the oil change work very, VERY hard. It's management/front desk that's hard to work with sometimes. The check-in staff at the Slaughter location, which is where I go, aren't entirely unbearable. In fact, you really have to look deep and/or have the experiences I've had to really see the problems like the nice-nastiness but it's just so frustrating to feel like you're an annoyance or inconvenience or that they'll fight you tooth and nail on something as simple honoring as a coupon, especially as a loyal, years-long customer. I recently suggested Sun Auto to a friend but suggested he not go to the Slaughter location so he went to the north location and had a rough go there too. I hate to stop coming here. The price is right and the actual worker fellas who do the work are stellar but I'm not sure the vibes that the check-in staff give off are worth dealing with. Update: "Service after the sale" is the issue... I had back surgery 2/25 and cannot lift the hood of my car to check my oil which the 2AZFE engine has a known "Oil consumption" issue so i thought id go to the place where i always get my oil changed and just have them check it and fill, brought my own oil, so just needed 5mins for the labor.. It was about a quart low, as aspected. BUT boy oh boy, Sun Devil is "Money Hungry" "we cannot just add sir we have to do a full oil change"... Really.. then the advisor, advised me to go to Advance auto and buy a quart, after explaining the back issue i have.. Absolutely no sympathy, OH NOT until i mentioned ive been a customer since the "Sun Devil Auto - Tempe, AZ" (Founding comp) days, and ** More importantly** I was going to post my experience to google, then all of a sudden Management did a 180 and had a tech come out and check the oil level.. to "top it all off" (no pun) the tech said i was using the wrong oil, supposed to use 0W20, been using 5W20 Semi synthetic, not sure where this tech got this information from, maybe the wrong oil cap, he needs an ASE refresh, or maybe it was a scare tactic to have my oil changed with the "PROPER" oil.... But this car uses either 0W20 Synthetic or 5W20 Semi Synthetic, been working on cars since i could walk... come on, people ! Customer service after the sale is important too, that accounts for repeat customers.. If you have the "Money Hungry" Attitude you'll end up getting less of it, due to less turnaround.... Unless a change of attitude for customer service happens, and with my experience its needed... For shame ! Now for the "Push Back" excuses, Management retort instead of taking proper ownership of the issue for change. read more

The guy at the service counter literally told me to go somewhere else and bring printout back if I needed to get work done. He also told me that appointments "do not work" for auto shops.
