Felipe and his crew are amazing. I manage Los Gatos Storage Services and we have a row of twelve foot tall bushes that run along the side of the property that was in desperate need of trimming. Because the street that we are located is on a hill, the property next door is located about eight feet from the base of the bushes which made trimming on that side a challenge. However, Felipe and his crew worked their magic, were able to trim the eighty or so feet of bushes, trimmed the elm tree in the from yard, and even laid down new tarp under the bark in the front yard. Save yourself some time and call Filipe from Summit Tree Service! We needed to remove a 60ft palm tree in our back yard that continually dropped crap into both ours and our neighbors pools. I knew this wasn't a "typical job as the palm tree was along our neighbors fence and 3ft from our house and right above our pool pump. We were looking for a reasonable quote from a company thats licensed and insured. We received several quotes from other companies ranging from very expensive and wanting us to sign a disclaimer saying they wont be responsible for damage to our property??? to companies that were suspiciously cheap and come to find out, they faked their license # and of course weren't insured. One company gave me a quote without coming out to look. Even after I told him about the our unique situation, he gave me the quote over the phone, then told me, any company cheaper than his quote wasn't insured or licensed. Ha. I called to potentially get services for tree removal. I have Five large 35ft Arborvitaes in my back yard, which I believe should be a decent size job? The gentleman I spoke with was in-polite and very unprofessional in his manner towards me during our conversation. What got me was when he abruptly hung up on me... I thought to myself maybe it was just a mistake? So I gave a ring back twice, got no pickup sent to voicemail. I just find that it's ironic that my first call was picked up on first ring... However, I am frankly thankful the situation happened up front versus hiring someone that would only act demeaning later. This is my first Yelp and it is absolutely a great one. About a week ago I was flying my drone around when I hit a tree about 80 ft in the air. Needless to say it got stuck up there. I called every company out there on Labor Day weekend to see if anyone had a bucket and to get a fair price on trying to get my drone down. Every company wanted to completely ripped me off. Felipe not only answered the phone but he promised me he would be here the very next day at 8. Right on time and right on the price. I found it impossible to have the owner show up for scheduled appointments. Here's my experience. I called to schedule an appointment with him to inspect the trees I wanted pruned. The appointment was set for the following day at 11 a.m. The owner wanted it rescheduled for later in the day, so I suggested 4 p.m. As 4 p.m. approached, he notified me that he couldn't be there at 4, so I rescheduled to 6 p.m. He didn't show up at 6, or later for that matter. I texted him later that evening to see if he wanted the appointment rescheduled. He texted me the following morning at 8 a.m. and informed me he wanted meet me at 9. I wasn't home at the time and couldn't be there in an hour, so I offered 4 p.m. -- or later if 4:00 wouldn't work for him. 4:00 came and went. He didn't show up again, so I texted him at 5 p.m. to see when he'd be coming over. He didn't respond to my text and never showed up. Think about this -- If someone doesn't honor a simple commitment to provide an estimate, how confident would you be that he'd show up to perform any work? First time, shame on him for not showing up. Second time, shame on me for believing that he would, given a second opportunity. A third time? Forget it. read more

Called him back 10 days after the initial meeting in our house and expected to schedule a day for his service. Did not return call. Called again. Told us to text him so he can call us back next day. Unfortunately I cannot give a review of this company. I can rate their response though. That would be NO STARS! I made an appointment with Felipe, the owner. The appt. was for Saturday morning at 0900. Felipe sent me a text at 7:50 pm Friday night saying something came up and he couldn't make it. We rescheduled for Tuesday April 1 at 5pm. My wife and I both rearranged our schedules to be home in time. 5:00 came and went. We gave him some time since it was raining pretty hard. By 5:30 I was done. There was no text or phone call from Felipe as to our appt. I sent him a text at 5:30 telling him I was no longer interested. I got no response or apology. Not a professional way to conduct business. He answered the call, came over the same day, and showed up two days later to do the work. We hired Felipe Mecina to remove the enormous 50 year old pine tree from our front yard that had become unstable over the years and was in danger of falling over. His bid was competitive and he scheduled the work immediately. Felipe and his crew showed up on time and made the tree removal seem effortless, without any damage to the nearby wrought iron fence or deck. Quite a feat! The crew spent the next few days grinding and removing the massive stump and root system, graded the entire front yard, reworked the irrigation system, laid new sod and added plants. Had a FANTASTIC experience with Felipe and co. Reasonable prices, clean work, friendly & efficient staff -- most importantly -- NO BS. Pricing -- Felipe provided me a VERY COMPETITIVE, fixed quote the same day that he came out to look at the trees for removal / trimming and was very flexible in scheduling. A few days before we were scheduled to start I decided to have the stumps ground and Felipe added this service without disruption at a VERY reasonable cost. After Felipe's team removed a couple of the trees we realized that another tree was all but dead and I asked him to remove that one too. Even though he could have stuck it to me for that last tree, he gave me a great price for removing the (by far the largest) tree and grinding the stump. He also rearranged his schedule to remove the final tree the very next day so I could get started with the rest of my landscaping project. Cleanliness -- Felipe's guys worked EXTREMELY clean. The trees that they removed/trimmed hung over the fences bordering two of my neighbors' homes. Both commented that their yards were cleaner after the trees were taken out than they were before. The guys did the same for my yard. Staff -- Felipe's guys were all very friendly. They worked hard non-stop all day under the very watchful eyes of my toddler, who was very impressed with the stump grinding machine. Once again we hired Felipe Mecina and his crew at Summit Tree Service to remove another very large tree in San Mateo. They expertly and quickly removed the branches and brought the branches to the ground without disturbing or damaging anything on the ground, neither in my yard nor in my neighbor's yard. The crew efficiently chipped up all of the branches. They hauled away two big truckloads of chips and wood. The crew then worked with a stump-chipping machine for two hours to grind out the stump from the tree that was removed. They worked hard for 10 hours that day to cut down the tree, remove all of the chips and wood, and grind out the stump. All at a very reasonable price. Summit Tree Service of San Jose (not Los Gatos!) is wonderful. For our family, cost is a consideration, and I have always found Summit Tree Service to be fairly and competitively priced. They are also licensed. (There are so many tree companies out there that have outrageous pricing, and do not listen to the customer.) Felipe Mecina listens to your needs/concerns and then applies his knowledge in an artistic and natural/healthy way for the tree. (I cannot stand companies that just chop the trees!) On our property we have needed the trees to be thinned and our huge ivy hedge trimmed down. Felipe's service, this time, was to trim a tree growing into the power lines. Felipe and crew trimmed it all around, so the tree looks balanced, not lopsided.
