Nice to visit a traditional diner. Wait was about 15-20 min on a Saturday mid-morning. I ordered the Philly Steak (Excellent choice). Make sure you order the fries. Fries were very crispy and fresh (highly recommend). They do not come with the Philly. We also ordered the Reuben (nice size and are taking some home). The kids chicken fingers were plenty (taking plenty home). They also provide you an option to pick out a duck . Very creative. Service was great. Customer service good. What a fun and delightful, colorful diner! We loved it here. Service was fast and friendly. Food was simple and delicious. We visited on a Tuesday Morning around 11:30 am or so. I'm really glad we went on a week day, not packed, easy in and out and our server was Delightful. They let everyone choose a Duck! I'm sure this is such a memorable experience for littles. We loved looking them over and picking ours to just have as small gift! It's a great memory we will laugh about! The coffee mugs were also cute and added to the whimsical feeling of the diner. Side note: They have flavored creamer (French Vanilla) if you ask for it! We both got the breakfast burrito, me without the chorizo, him with all the things! They were packed full and well worth the price. They give you a side of their home made salsa, not my absolute favorite, but it does add a little spice if you choose to use it! Let's just say, the food quality and crappy service make this a DO NOT VISIT AGAIN place. 50 min waiting on food. Wasn't even very busy. Then the food comes out and omg...who would serve this?! The sausage couldn't even be cut. Total hockey pucks. Couldn't get server to come back and check on us. Offered no discount or comp meal. Cute diner and cool atmosphere but REALLY disappointment in most everything else. Took 40 minutes to get our food. We arrived at 11 and ordered as soon as possible and received it at 1140. I ordered eggs Benedict and got HARD BOILED eggs. My sister ordered eggs over medium and they were over hard. They replaced my eggs Benedict and the SECOND were soft boiled eggs. The manager said they "pre boil" the eggs for the eggs Benedict and that's been their recipe for 40 years. Wait ... WHAT? You can't pre -boil poached eggs. Had to send the second one back too. It's been 50 minutes now and I still don't have food and my family is finishing theirs. Very disappointing. Edit to add: manager tried a 3rd entree, the Philly omelet. She expedited it really quick but it wasn't very good. It was about double the onions I'd expect. Hardly any meat. Didn't even eat a third of it. Not worth talking home. So disappointed. read more

A super busy and popular place, usually a first come seating policy, but if you have a larger group like we did (10+), call for reservations. Traditional breakfast/brunch fare (something for everyone), large portions, reasonable prices, friendly service, no frills ambience, and "duck toy" souvenir for dining here! Overall, 4.5 rating for excellent diner experience; expect to pay ~$7-14pp for a meal. Today we ordered omelettes, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, and more. All meals were served hot from the kitchen, very tasty breakfast eats, generous portions, and attentive service. Super filling meal to start the day! The bad things, the coffee wasn't very good, it was very loud and I had to yell a bit to talk, and worst of all, the wait was about 26 minutes. Overall, 3.5 stars. This place was simply the most fun. It's welcoming, comfortable, bright, and cheerful. You just want to go in and then you want to stay. Maybe forever. The staff are all so friendly, everyone that we encountered was just kind. They all seemed to support each other and work well together, too. The menu is interesting with a variety of options including traditional breakfast/brunch offerings and more unique/exclusive menu items specific to Sugar 'n Spice. I had the classic Eggs Benedict and everything was perfect. The table also had the Mexican omelette, which is so fluffy! This is a 50s style diner with a breakfast and lunch menu. I decided to get the breakfast special, which included eggs, pancakes, and bacon. I also got a mimosa. Everything tasted good and I feel like the portions were a good size. Our server was helpful in helping us decide what we wanted to order by giving suggestions. We waited an hour for our food - not overestimating on time - a literal hour. And we get our food and it's cold and has been obviously sitting under a heat lamp for a while. My daughter's pancakes were rock hard around the edges, and my mom's eggs Benedict were ice old. The server took off my mom's order and we were able to remake pancakes. But it was still ridiculous. It's always a treat to stop by Sugar N Spice when I'm in town visiting! They had the best diner food and a really unique energizing atmosphere inside. Anything on their menu is delicious and filling but this most recent trip I ordered the Breakfast Special with eggs, bacon, pancakes and a side of goetta. It was so much food! But if you think that's a lot, you should see how big their omelettes are in comparison. They also served mimosas and bloody mary's too, unlike many diners! Came in to this location for the first time and was not impressed. I've been to the treading road location a few times and really enjoyed the food so not sure if this was an anomaly. The service was great, it's just the food that could have been much better. I ordered the eggs Benedict and the Holland side sauce was extremely lemony it was hard to eat. It just did not taste right. The hash browns are also greasy and soggy, not crispy. I added a ton of hot sauce to try and give them more flavor. The prices here aren't cheap like some breakfast places either so I expected better. You also don't get any toppings on the Benedict and you pay $0.50 for each vegetable on top of the $11 for the Benedict. Also 2 thin pancakes are $4. I got the banana pancakes and they didn't taste like fresh bananas. The service was good. It took a bit to get waters and menus but the food came out after a decent time and the waitress checked in after we got our food. She was also quick with the check. I love that they have the option to pay the bills online by scanning a QR code. Makes it quick and also COVID friendly to not exchange credit cards. Since I've been to the other location, I'm willing to give this another try but it's not too on my list. read more

When I lived in Cincinnati a while ago, we loved going to the Diner on Sycamore. Well, it's still there as Sugar N' Spice. We really liked Sugar on Reading Road, so we wanted to give it a try. And we LOVE breakfast food. We sat at the counter which was fine for us. We had an energetic and pleasant server who helped us soon after we sat down, but OMG was the restaurant S-L-O-W!!! Once we got our food we were happy. I had scrambled eggs, toast, sausage links, and hash browns. I was pleased! Nothing FABULOUS, but I enjoyed it a lot. My husband had the wispy thin pancakes and the hash browns. Thumbs up on the hash browns--yum...crispy and moist at the same time. The pancakes though...wispy thin, yes. Also kind of soggy. They weren't awful but nothing to rave about. Overall, I good experience. You might enjoy IHOP just as much for the food, but the experience at the Diner slaps. The service has been average - nothing over the top and nothing bad. The food is classic diner food. I got the pancakes and I enjoyed them. Sugar N' Spice seems to be an establishment here in town and after visiting, I can understand why. The interior is fun and they offer up inoffensive American Breakfast. I enjoyed my food and the coffee was okay. Make sure you plan to get here early on weekends or have no plans until the afternoon because there's a chance you'll be here a while. We waited for our table and had to wait a decent amount of time for food too. That being said, I didn't feel neglected by our waitress. She was always there to warm up my coffee. Been here on two occasions. This place offers an amazing retro diner vibe. However, the food was just short of average. I had their breakfast special and it really wasn't anything special and noticed a curled up hair strand underneath my sausage patty. The breakfast food was mediocre. I returned again with a friend the next week and her french toast was mushy and undercooked and the bacon was hard and dry. To make matters worse she had a hair strand in her breakfast special plate as they brought it out. A few weeks later she mentions that the server also changed the tip amount on the final bill. I am genuinely disappointed with this restaurant and really hoped the food and service would match the environment. read more

I ordered the breakfast special with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce (skip it , wasn't that great) and a side of potatoes but as you see I did not receive poached eggs but over easy instead. Potatoes were my favorite thing here and the coffee. Everything else was decent except the pancakes which had an interesting aftertaste to them. My little one enjoyed his waffles and chicken tenders. I love the new location. I've been eagerly awaiting this opening since, well, it feels like forever. It's so great to rescue a vintage diner to begin with, but the fact that it brings Sugar N' Spice closer to home for us makes it all the better. We arrived on the early side, knowing how popular and crowded the original location is. I would recommend doing this on weekends if you can. 9am seems to be the sweetspot - just before the crowds arrive - and it gives you plenty of time to enjoy your breakfast. I ordered a new item off the menu - the pulled pork with gravy and biscuits. I loved it, although I missed my usual pancake and goetta go-to. I'll definitely be back to try the salads at lunch. While the decor and theme of the restaurant are cute it is definitely an overhyped spot in my opinion. To see that reservations were almost impossible to make confuses me. If you're a southerner like I am, think Waffle House in a prettier package. I like just about everything about Sugar and Spice! From the decor all the way down to the service. It has an old-school Diner look with bright colors on the walls, colorful booths and stools, and cool murals on the ceiling. I just adore it. I ordered the chorizo omelet. It comes with 5 eggs! That's too much for me to eat in one sitting. That obliterate omelette was soooo delicious. They whip their eggs in a blender and that makes them VERY light and fluffy. The flavor and texture was outstanding. We ordered a side of goetta. It was a bit dry and overcooked for my taste. I sampled the corn beef sandwich with bacon. It was yummy too. They bring out your bill in a small tray with a bunch of little, rubber duckies and you can choose one to take home. There is metered parking on the street and in the back of the building.
