I have been here a couple of times with a friend who lives in the neighborhood. He says it has been around a long time and it's one of the few breakfast places around. And it definitely has been around a long time. You could have pulled it right out of the 1970s! But it felt clean and kept up. I'm sure they have to keep prices low so it's never going to change as long as people keep coming back. Shauna Was our waitress and she was very friendly and attentive. Made sure we were well taken care of. I have had a couple of different breakfasts here but eggs with any kind of protein and cheese is always one of my go-tos. It was most excellent! Every other breakfast my friends have gotten has also just been good. It's very simple and homemade style so nothing too fancy but definitely delicious! They do take credit cards as you pay at the counter when you leave. read more

Blue Jays is a must have when you visit Northside. I grew up in Northside and this has just always been a cute, quaint, mom and pop shop. They are welcoming whether they recognize you or not. They stay consistent with their service and their food. I've never had anything critical to say about this restaurant. They have so much Cincinnati history inside. Fun Fact: Several movies have scenes filmed inside BlueJays Restaurant! They don't offer dinner, so make sure you stop by for breakfast and/or lunch! Which both are served all day!!! They are closed on Sundays to be with their families. Stop by between 8am-3pm Monday-Saturday and you won't be disappointed! read more

The Blue Jay is an institution. I love it. If you are in the neighborhood you have to hit it up. The prices are insanely low. Lately I have been getting my the Western omelette. Plenty of ham and cheese. Always cooked to perfection. The hashbrowns are shredded and griddled up. The pancakes are super good. Nice touch of vanilla. Sandwiches are also fabulous. Everyone that works there is so nice. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The place has an immaculate vibe. Love the movie posters of films that have been filmed there. Try it! read more

My husband and I met a couple of friends at Blue Jay Restaurant for a late breakfast on a Saturday morning. By the time we were seated, there was a line out the door. Blue Jay Restaurant has been around a long time and is clearly a neighborhood favorite. It's your traditional "greasy spoon" diner. The decor is unassuming and the leather benches are creaky, but it all adds to the classic diner charm. They do have an original menu on the wall, which is super cool. Our server was exceptionally friendly. We ordered some breakfast classics like potatoes, bacon, eggs, etc. and my husband got a burger. Overall, everything was as you'd expect. Nothing to write home about, but worth another stop in for some filling, American classic breakfast. read more

Stumbled upon Blue Jay as we were looking for a different breakfast place aside from my coworkers weekly Friday stop. Walking into the Blue Jay you are immediately taken back in time. It has that old time diner feel. Loved it.. Family owned and operated for generations, I'm glad places like this still exhibits. I went with a breakfast omelette, which could have been ordered anyway you desire. Big portions and delicious too. This place is a recommended stop by me. Classic diner breakfast! Everything was delicious. A monster serving of goetta made the meal. Keep in mind we moved to California seven years ago, so goetta was treat! The serving did not disappoint; it was huge, delicious and perfectly fried. The eggs were cooked as requested. I only ate a few of the potatoes, but they were flavorful and well done, which is my preference. The biscuit and gravy was wonderful. Slightly salty with plenty of sausage. The gravy was stick-to-your-ribs thick. SO good! Wheat toast was included. So much food and without coffee it was @ $11. What a steal! I highly recommend Blue Jay Restaurant! read more

Like going back in time to the 1950's. Except pie is no longer 30 cents a slice. Walked in fir breakfast on a cold Saturday morn. Booths have sneeze guards between them. I was hoping to see Robert Redford and Sissy Spacack, but I guess he'sstill in prison after robbing 5 banks in one day. Food is reasonable and filling...huge portions. My son did all but lick plate...hes a big boy. So big he almost didnt fit in the booth. Try as I like, I could only eat half of mine. Then I was set until dinner time. I will be back. read more

This place is awesome! Walking in here is like taking a time machine back to 1969! I am betting nothing has changed here since their opening but it works for them. It reminded me a little of Zips in Mount Lookout. There is plenty of on street parking around and a big pay lot right up the street. I had no trouble getting a spot. I came here specifically for the coneys because i am on a Cincinnati chili kick right now and this was on my list of 16 place to try. They have a lot of other awesome menu items. The guy next to me said his burger was so good that he ordered a second one. I got two coneys with onions and mustard, fries, and a Coke. Their chili really stood out to me. It has a ton of flavor. It was the perfect consistency for coneys too. The fries were extremely crispy. I loved it! I don't get to the Northside very often but when I do, I will be checking this place out again. read more

Excellent food, quite the crowd on a Saturday AM and after we waited for a table and ordered we overhead another table be told "it's about an hour to get food". Luckily we were in no hurry and able to visit a bit. And they were right, home cookin took a while! All the food was prepared perfectly, and we had plenty of refills and a nice waitress. Blue Jay become one of my favorite spots to dine when living in Northside. So much so, that my Dad and I still make it a point to see each other over brunch or lunch at the cozy diner we love. Staff is always welcoming, and even when they are busy, I never feel rushed to leave. It's a laid back atmosphere and pretty chill. I usually see a lot of locals enjoying their favorite items on the menu or trying the special of the day. There are no frills when dining at Blue Jay, but that is part of the appeal. Big thanks to Mike Bilby from work for telling me about this place. It's a little greasy spoon on tbe north side of Cincinnati. As you can see from my pictures it's got a very traditional, little local joint environment to it. It also seems to be busy most of the time from what I've heard and read and was during my visit as well. We didn't have to wait but I'm sure that's not uncommon here. The service was top notch as well. Now onto my food.... Blue Jay Breakfast Biscuits And Gravy What Is It:The breakfast comes with two eggs, a breakfast meat which I got sausage, panckes, and home fries. The biscuits and gravy I got separate. Presentation: Looked like a proper breakfast to me. Nothing special but nothing bad. 7 out of 10 Taste/ Final Analysis: The breakfast had everything you'd want in a good breakfast. The eggs were fine, the sausage had good flavour, the home fries were really good, and the pancakes were tasty. However what I really want to rave about is the biscuits and gravy. Seriously this was the best I've ever had and I've had some darn good versions over the years. The biscuits are a good base but the gravy is where the magic is. Just the right amount of pepper and creaminess and just everything. My words cannot do it justice. This is definitely worth going wayyy out of your way for. My daughter and I stopped in yesterday for lunch and it was pretty good. It's a small, old-school type of diner. The menu has the basics like breakfast options, burgers, and sandwiches. My daughter ordered the Grilled Chicken deluxe and I ordered the Tom Burger. We also ordered some Gravy Cheese Fries to share. The Tom Burger is made identical to a Frisch's Big Boy. We both liked our sandwiches. My daughter said her chicken was juicy and she thought it was "decent". My burger was good, as well. A little too much bun since the burger patties are fairly thin, but still ok. Neither of us cared for the gravy cheese fries very much. They were ok but not nearly as good as the ones at PRC. The service is great! The server we had was friendly and the food came out quickly, even with a steady flow of lunch traffic. We will stop in again the next time we are in the area. read more

I compare all diner breakfasts to Blue Jay. They set my standard for the perfect breakfast joint. Cheap, classic menu, friendly atmosphere, and all the Cincinnati classics like goetta and chili! I've been eating here since I was a kid, and every time I come back to Cincinnati this is the first place I stop at. Nothing fancy or new about this joint, and that's why I love it. After reading reviews, I went in knowing about the slow service. But I didn't remember how small this place was. Having an infant in a carrier and stressed out people around me made this place feel pretty cramped. Our over easy Eggs came out in no time. But my dad's omelette took much longer and we never seemed to have the full attention of our waitress who didn't really care. Oh, well. So many reviews mentioned how amazing the biscuits were, that I asked if they are made there - they're not. This place is full of childhood memories for me, so maybe I'll go back infant-free when I'm really in the mood for diner food that was made somewhere else....lol read more
