Sturtevant's Bellevue (Christy Sports) is AMAZING! I bought my first skis, boots, and gear here 20 years ago and have come back every year to outfit the entire family and update everything. I also have all the skis tuned at the shop (ask for Marc). Marc takes care of me and all my needs. Tracy (owner/manager) has special ordered lots of gear for me over the years, as well. They have top of the line gear and provide Platinum level service all the time. No ski shop works harder for their customers. There is nowhere else I'd go. I hadn't even bought the boots there. Wow! Update: Today, Andy gave such great, customer-oriented service today, again taking time to figure out what was wrong and explain what he was doing to try and fix it. Aright fam listen up, I have extremely complicated feet... we're talking MEDICAL-grade-orthopedic-inserts complicated. For MONTHS I have been looking for snowboard boots that would at LEAST let my feet have some blood flow.. I was honestly willing to settle for completely-numb-but-not-in-excruciating-pain boots. An then, on a sunny afternoon I decided to go to Sturtevant's. Three hours later I walked out with boots that fit like a GLOVE. I was helped by Collin who went above and beyond. Not only did he know what he was talking about - I mean seriously this guy knew what all of the bones in my feet were called - but he was so determined to find a solution for me. He molded them, punched them out repeatedly... until they fit.I honestly wanted to hug him but I knew it'd be kinda weird. All in all, I am so excited to finally be able to snowboard without crying. I cannot remember who was helping me, but came in MLK day near closing and wanted to try on some snowboarding boots. The two guys who helped were super attentive and offered wonderful advice. They made sure that I was able to try on as many boots as I needed and that I was comfortable with my choice. They even cut insoles so that I could even more sure. I walked around the store in boots for a while because it was important to them that I found a good fit. They stayed way later than they needed to and never rushed me out of the store even though it was now 20 minutes past closing. The above is why we keep coming back for our sporting needs. read more

Walked in with questions about getting an insole fitted for my ski boots. Wasn't sure about going through with it that day, but brought my boots just in case and glad I did. While the boot tech walked me through the whole process of fitting the insoles, the 6th toe pain I was having from last season started creeping back and he immediately offered to punch out the toe. Came back the following week to pick up the boots, found more pressure spots, and again, he didn't hesitate to tweak the insole and punch some more. All that service for just the price of an insole, I (and most importantly my feet) couldn't be happier. read more

As a first time skier, getting fitted for boots was definitely an experience, but it was well worth the time and effort. Michael and his team exercised unlimited patience to get my boots fitted, molded, and punched out just right. After 6 hours in the ski boots on my first day out, I had no complaints about my feet/ boots at all! Thank you also to the other staff members who helped me find goggles, a helmet, and apparel that ensured my comfort and happiness on the bunny hill! I was having challenges with a pair of ski boots purchased at another location two months earlier. These were high quality performance boots and after a couple attempts and custom insoles and adjustments without success I went into the Bellevue store and worked with Mark Music in the ski boot department. Mark worked with me for several hours to ensure that I walked out not only in boots that worked for me and a comfortable fit, but also that I was 100% satisfied and a happy customer. He was patient, understanding, considerate and did it all with a smile and positive attitude. The others that I met during this process were also very helpful. Example, I was asked at least 3 times by others if I had what I needed or if they could help me as I wandered the store looking at other gear while getting fitted. I will come here for all of my ski gear needs for life as a result of this great service. Can not recommend Sturtevant's highly enough. read more

Boot fitters here work miracles. Have a very wide foot where I always have to buy a high volume ski boot and then get it punched out repeatedly. J.R. and Otto (and the rest of the custom fit team) spent all day finding a ski boot in my size that worked and then punching them out until they fit. Was able to ski on them yesterday and my wife said they must have fit pretty well because "I wasn't complaning all day about my boots". High praise :) . Can't say enough for how patient the custom team was in trying to find solutions to make the boots work for my wide foot. Was there on a busy Saturday when several other people were trying to find boot solutions and they were able to get the boots to fit all our oddly shaped feet. Definitely the place to go for boots. read more

Sturtevant's has an equipment rental place down the street which is also great. This place is for buying gear. After renting gear a couple times, I decided I liked snowboarding enough to invest in buying. It's recommended to buy boots in store to try them on and I agree. Since this was my first time buying, one of the employees helped me through the entire process without me even having to ask. Measuring my feet, asking how they fit in the heel and toe, etc. I walked out with some nice boots on sale cheaper than anywhere I could find online. I got new ski boots at the Bellevue store and adjusted bindings to fit and the experience was incredible. I showed up on a monday, first day of the progressive sale, and it was very busy but they were able to sit me for a boot fit within 20 minutes. I had Lucas and he was accurate in his initial assessment of my foot. The first of 3 boots that he brought was the one I went with. I have a normal volume foot with a huge (E) width toe box. I have a weird tendon that rolls over my ankle and is really painful. I've struggled to find the right boot for 25 years and today I found it. He knew what I needed and the boot melter assistant totally nailed one spot that needed a blow out for my impossibly wide foot. Then I went downstairs and Ben totally hooked me up with adjusting my pivot bindings on a short time frame to accommodate an upcoming trip. The icing on the top was that I was completely prepared to walk out of there paying $1000 for a boot that works and instead I paid 300 for exactly what I wanted and reassurance and guarantees that they will stand behind their boot fit guarantee as the liner packs out. I never write reviews (this may be the first). But todays experience will make me a veteran of this shop for a long time. For myself, my husband and our 4 young kids who all ski 2-4 days a week. I've tried the other popular seattle ski stores. This one nailed it today and you won't find me shopping at those places anymore. read more

Sturtevants is the place to go for all your tennis, skiing, and snowboarding needs. I've never had a bad experience in this place. Parking though is sometimes a nightmare because hint : this place is awesome. Staff is super helpful, knowledgeable, and extremely patient. I tried on snowboarding shoes for about a hour yesterday and Taylor was not the least bit annoyed/impatient. Kept checking how I was feeling (feet wise) and talking about comfortability and what to look for. Tennis staff is also really great. Bought a racquet and they told me it would be strung by 4PM next day. It was already done by morning I'm guessing since I called to check something. Note: if you buy a racquet from them there's a 20 dollar credit towards stringing! After buying a pack of over-grips for my racquet, the person attending to me even offered to grip my racquet for me. Had to decline since I'm low key OCD about applying grips on my racquet, but just goes to show you how great the people at Sturtevants are! The only issues you might run into is low stock especially if you're in the middle of a season or near the end of it, but otherwise you should be in good hands! read more

These people know their business; they're the ones you want to go for fitted gear. For skiing and snowboarding, having properly fitting gear is paramount, since how well you control your edge depends on your foot. Turn out--as we found--finding the right fit is not easy. Off the shelf stuff rarely fits perfectly, and,over time, the foam and materials can degrade. These folks get you fitted right. With new stuff, they get you the right size and then customize your fit with punching and stretching (included in the price). For your own gear they assess your situation and solve your problems. (We got custom orthotics and extra foam) Yes, you can get better prices online, but you need a custom fit for your boots; this is the place to go. Plus, their progressive sale is pretty good (on par with online sales), and they have all the best brands. Solid. read more

I called ahead to ask if they could mount my skis even though I didn't buy them there. They told me they could but I would have to pay full price for the mount. When I got there, the shop asked me if I bought my equipment there. When I told them I didn't, they proceeded to tell me that they actually couldn't mount them unless I let them drive my corvette (I drive a 5 year old Honda Civic) and let them stay in my cabin at Sun Valley (I rent a studio apartment). They literally denied a customer service. How's that for customer service? If this all sounds like fun to you, by all means... give them your money (and your corvette, and your house). read more

The customer service here is amazing. I purchased a pair of expensive Hestra gloves and after having them for one day (only using them to shovel my driveway) I realized the pair was too small. I returned the next day and was helped immediately. I was fitted into the right size and walked out a very happy customer. I purchased a pair of ski boots from Ski Bonkers. They fit great when I tried them on, but when I skied with them the boots hurt. I tried skiing on them for about a month thinking the pain would work out. It did not. I went to Sturdevant's to get the boot custom fitted. I sat with the boot fitter and told him where the pain was. He took the information, heated up the boots, put spacers in the boot and I stood in place with the boots on for 10 minutes. After the fitting the boots were perfect. I have skied with them the rest of the season with no pain. Great boot. I would recommend Sturdevant for any and all your ski needs. I have the fondest memories of Sturtevant's from childhood. I'm the third generation of my family of skiers (and now snowboarders) who have shopped at Sturtevant's. They have always been expensive, but provided the best, most friendly service over the years. Unfortunately, this has recently come to an end. The Sturtevant's I knew growing up is no more, and now it's a huge business where the employees are specialized and unfamiliar with many of the things in the shop (like Home Depot). Further, I had a really terrible experience trying to get help buying/fitting boots with a technician named Rick at the Bellevue location. This particular person's attitude and actions were enough to erase a lifetime's worth of admiration and loyalty to a local, family-owned ski shop, in about an hour and a half. While I tip my hat to the family that owns Sturtevant's, because I admire it as a profitable business, I cannot with conscience shop there any longer, as they have become the 800lb. gorilla with arrogant employees (not all of them, but it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the bunch) and others who simply don't know the products. Instead I'll be supporting the smaller shops that eke out their existence in the shadow of the Microsoft of ski shops, or REI whose co-op structure ensures a persistent appreciation for the customer. Too bad, because the Sturtevant's of the past shares a great space in my memories along with Chace's Pancake Corral, Ernst Hardware and a bunch of other old school Bellevue Businesses that operated with the friendliness of a smaller town. read more

My go to stop for both ski and tennis equipment. I've bought all my ski and tennis gear from sturtevant's over the years. Even though the price may be pricy they are really knowledgeable about their stuff and super friendly. For their tennis stuff they have all the pro rackets, shoes, bags, and clothes for your court game. My favorite thing they let you do is demo rackets for free, I basically played all of my tennis last summer by demoing rackets, it's awesome. If you come in for restringing and need your racket urgently they will bump you ahead of people which is nice too. I highly recommend this place if you're in need of either snow gear or tennis gear. I'm rating this from the perspective of a ski shop only, as I don't go there in the summer for tennis or waterski gear. I've been skiing 31 years and have a fairly good idea of what good and bad ski gear and clothing are. Sturtevant's is the best ski shop on the Eastside, and perhaps in the greater Seattle area. They carry a wide selection of the better brands. Their salespeople vary from okay to excellent, which is important with technical gear. I hate to generalize based on age, but the middle-aged sales force that has been there awhile *tends* to be better informed than the newer, younger salespeople, which makes sense. This is particularly true for the toughest part of gear selection for skiing: ski boots. It makes sense to pay full retail for ski boots if the difference is an hour of a tech's time to help you get the exact right ones. Do not go to REI or Gart's to save the 10-20%, as it's not worth it!!! That being said I send a lot of friends to Sturtevant's and they occasionally make mistakes (which is a little understandable because fitting ski boots correctly is very difficult). They just don't make mistakes nearly as often or as big as the mistakes I see coming out of REI and Gart (and for that matter, the ancient gear coming out of Gart). If you live on the West side I have had some good experiences at Mt. Pilchuck in Everett and I have heard good things about Fiorini in University Village. I love REI for camping stuff but no thanks on the ski stuff. In the fall Sturtevant's runs demo days, a one-day event at Stevens Pass where you can try out different skis for one run apiece, and the cost is $20 I think, and I think even that goes to charity. It's a great gig if you're not sure which skis to buy. In the spring Sturtevant's runs a 30%/40%/50% off sale, where the prices go down each week until they run out of gear. It can be a great deal, particularly during a low snow year when there's less demand for ski stuff. I find their tuning & mounting services to be of good quality (not quite as good as at a resort town like Park City or Whistler, but still good). As a sidenote, the best time to tune for most skiiers is once per year in January, as if you do it in November like most folks, you'll likely have to wait because they are busy then, and you'll also immediately get rock dings which may cause you to re-tune. read more

Went in last Saturday for their BIG ski sale. Everything was 40% off and they had tons of selection still! Great service and very attentive. However, their knowledge of their apparel is limited. When I asked associates about the jacket I would be purchasing, they read the tag off to me... Good effort I guess? The merchandise was kept pretty well organized given how many people were ransacking through it (and there's nothing better than having it organized by size when you're shopping)! The boot fitters here are excellent. They won't sell you a boot just for the sale. They will exhaust every effort to get you the right fit. Yesterday when I went in, I didn't have high hopes. I am very difficult to fit and I knew the boot stalk would be low. My fault for not shopping for new boots in October. When my potential hour long wait, turned into 15 minutes, I began to have hope. Then when the second boot tried on actually buckled (without going up a size,) my hopes steadily rose. JR tweaked and modified that turned this boot into a custom one of a kind boot for me. I'm sure I will need to go back in for some more adjustments, but that goes with the territory with me and ski boots. Matt and JR were the ones that took such great care of me, However, I would trust my ski boot needs to any of the crew. read more

This is probably the best tennis store to shop at in the Seattle and Bellevue area. Unlike Aces and Zach's, they carry a lot of tennis apparel. Sturtevant's also sells a lot of skiing and outdoorsy stuff, so it's a much bigger store but with better customer service. Plus it has a better lay out and lighter, so it's just generally a nicer store to be in. This Sturdevant's doesn't have niche racket brands like Yonex and Technifibre like Avanti, or an equal amount of string selection. Plus you get a 20% discount with student card at Avanti. But I think Sturdevant's service is a little better, and their store has more stuff to look at, even if it's tennis unrelated. So if you don't get the 20% discount, Sturdevant's is easily the better store. Most of my tennis friends, who take their tennis shopping to extremely serious levels shop here. read more

These folks are the best. Patronize their store. Yesterday I picked up a Thule box from Sturtevants that was on close out. I picked up a rack second hand and was encountering issues getting the feet off the rack. Martin spent a good 30 minutes adjusting the racks and fixing a broken spring. They didn't charge for the repair (they have an awesome repair bench) and gave me a great deal on the box. I really appreciate the service - from the times I called to confirm they had what I needed (always courteous and knowledgable) to spending an hour in the store. He spent over an hour testing boots and then fitting the pair we found exactly to my feet. I wore them Saturday and my feet finally felt good while skiing. Great customer service. Last Saturday I picked up a new pair of boots (Atomic B120's), but like an idiot, I forgot to bring my skis to have the bindings adjusted. Like a bigger idiot, I'm going skiing tomorrow and totally procrastinated. They still squeezed me in today, which they absolutely didn't have to do, but it made the difference of me skiing tomorrow. I think that says a lot about their customer service. Now I did read one person's comment about being placed in boots that were too small, but I didn't have that experience whatsoever. The salesperson, Gill, who helped me with my boots listened very carefully to what I had to say, and asked for me to come back and let them know how the boots worked out. They do care. All I can say to the owners of this business is: don't change a thing! read more
