I have to give them a 1 Star only for the after-purchase customer service. If anything, you buy fails and needs to be warrantied the Management policy is tell you to go deal with the manufacture. I had it on a pair of boots that broke in the first month of uses and now my kids first Smith Helmet. The way I feel is I bought from you, and you sold it to me you deal with it. Zero stars. Be forewarned if you plan to rent gear from this place. They do not clean their boots! I went in to size up on a snowboard boot for my kid. Was told to come back with the board. Didn't bother measuring my kid's foot before offering this suggestion and I live 20 min away. Return to the store the same evening, snotty girl grabs a pair of boots, doesn't even bother with the board that we drove home to get. Apparently, not necessary to her. These boots have a funk like mold spores are multiplying by the minute. I though it was a funk in the store, not the boots. They end up stinking up my car and my entire garage. I have to make yet another 40 min round trip to return boots that have obviously not been cleaned and have water damage. Terrible all the way around. Definitely needs new management. read more

We've been renting our skis & boots from Sturtevant's for several years now, but we've never had such superb service like today from William. Immediately, he greeted us as he approached my family. He was so pleasant and so easy to work with, he really took time and care to help us. We had a female staff last year and she wasn't friendly. I even had a little issue with last year's rental so I had to return to the shop to exchange. I didn't want the same issue, so I explained to William and he really listened and made sure that I had the right boots this year & carefully adjusted my bindings. He took care of us from start to finish, gave us his undivided attention. Other years, we had multiple staff help us & other families at the same time so it was a bit chaotic. After checkout, William offered a belt wax which we never got in the past. He also offered to help carry our equipment to the car (so nice), but we declined. William is THE BEST! We hope to work with him again! The manager there is also very nice and accommodating. When I had issues with my last year's rental, he exchanged them w/out any problems. read more

I was recently there to buy a new pair of skis and I had a very bad experience. They were extremely short staffed and place was overloaded with customers, which should have been anticipated since it was on a weekend only weeks before the ski season. What I didn't like was that there was absolutely no organization in their service. I waited for over 30 mins and yet nobody was there to help me. I noticed a family come after us in and get helped before we did. It felt very random and unfair. Also, their pant collection for smaller women sucks! read more

This used to be a good place to consign the kids gear and buy more used gear. Not anymore. They have gone to a trade in system where they give you credit for half of what they think they will sell your gear for. And try to steer you towards purchasing inferior gear, that will need bindings or remounts, something to make them more money. Price they offered me for our quite good shape ski boots was $30, meaning my credit would be $15. Not worth the trip here anymore. Won't be back. read more

Last week I visited a ski shop in West Seattle, to purchase ski boots, and had such a poor experience with customer service that I cancelled a fitting appointment (that they were going to charge for). Knew that I would pay premium there but wanted to help out a local shop. Today I went over to Bellevue having made an appointment with Sturtevant's. I was immediately seen (and there was a significant line of people waiting to get into the store). Sofia, who helped me with the boots, was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and professional. Was able to show me a very wide array of boots at multiple price points until I found a pair that hit a good balance. In a whim decision, my family and I decided to try snowboarding for our first time and needed to rent gear. Ski Mart was recommended by a few retail companies, so we tried it out. There's an online portal to reserve gear online, however you have to do it more than 24 hours from the rental date. So we had to walk in the morning if our trip, at opening hour at 10am. In all honesty, the reason I'm giving this place 4-stars is because the guy who was helping us to rent gear was just uncommunicative, assumes we knew what we were doing (were first timers) and was just a jerk. On the other hand, prices were fair. Definitely cheaper than renting from the ski resort. Equipment were in good shape. My ONLY real issue with renting from a place like this would be that if you'd like to switch out your gear for a smaller size or adjust something, you don't have the convenience of having the rental ship there on site. So be sure you know your sizes and specs beforehand. Not a good place for first time rentals. But definitely a cheaper route to go. read more

I've been coming here for 3 years now and they always help me with board tunning. You must ask them their recommendation for your particular case because they have 2 services: basic and complete. Probably you won't need the complex one unless your board has deep scratches. We have also rented gear from here. They helped us diligently with fitting and found the right one for us. They have another section for selling. They have new winter ski clothing and another one for used boots or skis -in good condition-. Some of that gear might be new and from previous seasons. This new stuff comes from another store. Probably that's why is in sale and you won't be able to return it. I would recommend to ask first. Everyone is super friendly. Sometimes you will feel discovering things by yourself. I don't really find this bad because I like looking around without anyone nagging. If you are new on this stuff, you should probably ask them about the services and stuff ;) so you can find the right gear for you or at least a good tip. And yes, the parking lot is a bit weird and narrow when turning around to exit. I don't know if you can use one of the outside spots :S read more

Customer service was amazing I even went back a few weeks later to upgrade my rental and their employee Anika was a huge help and got me set up on a perfect set of skis. 1) Terrible parking lot layout, sucks if you drive a large SUV or pick-up. 2) If you're a 1st time renter be sure to read the tiny fine print instructions on how to rent. If you don't you can wait 20 mins in line only to be told to read to the small instruction signs, then back to the back of line again. This whole rental process is very unorganized. 3) Guys behind the counter are rude, and not very helpful. After they have adjusted your skis/board you need to reach your arms over the counter to pick them up. This is lifting beyond somebody's power zone. Rental guys will not set them on the counter for the customer. 4) Rental prices are cheap, $38 for an entire ski package. This is what gives this spot 2 stars. read more

I've been a customer for more than a decade with sturtevant Bellevue. I followed them to all the locations they moved to. Their customer service is the best and they go above and beyond for you. Everyone is friendly and feel like you're not being pressured once you come in. I love their tennis shop. They are professional and know their stuff. Corey Tam is an expert at everything there. Excellent knowledge at all the tennis items in the store, solid tennis player so he knows how it feels and what a customer need and what to do. TERRIBLE SERVICE. AWFUL EQUIPMENT. AVOID THIS SHOP FOR RENTALS AT ALL COSTS. Worst ski rental experience ever. We spent well over an hour at the store AFTER we had already registered and paid online, just to do a basic ski rental. If only it was worth it. When we finally reached he front of the line after a half hour of waiting, we were told we had to re-enter our demographic information in a computer terminal, even though all of this information had already been filled out in our online reservation. After getting back in line, we reached the front, at which point the employee pointed at a rack of boots and told us to pick out our own equipment, and then ... you guessed it ... return to the line. The boots were a mess. Many were broken, and a few sizes were altogether missing. All of the boots were quite dirty, far worse than the typical rental shop. There were stray boots lying around on the floor everywhere -- it was as if a tornado had been through. No one assists you in finding the correct size; fortunately for us, we know our sizes. But since the boots that aren't on the floor have all been shoved into the rack in random places, well, good luck finding your size. After scouring the boot selection for an eternity, I still wound up with the most uncomfortable boots I've ever skied in. Talk about a total lack of quality. The poles were a similar mess -- basically we dug through a huge rack of unsorted poles to find two that (1) were the correct size, and (2) paired. I imagine this is the experience you'd have shopping at a ski gear dump, not a rental shop. The guy at the rental desk did not know what he was doing -- he had to make 3 trips back and forth from the sales desk for each customer, to ask other employees how to perform basic tasks. If he's so new, why isn't someone helping him? And after all that waiting and mess, no one said thank you, or sorry, or anything to indicate that they gave a damn. Everyone that worked at Sturtevant's Ski Mart that night seemed much more interested in socializing, or counting down the hours left in their shift, or griping about their job, instead of basic customer service -- or for that matter, basic manners and decency. I've rented ski gear from shops all over the country -- from little mom and pop shops to huge national chains. This was the WORST experience of them all, both in terms of the quality and condition of the gear we rented, and in the horrible customer service. This place makes the Post Office seem like the Ritz Carlton. AVOID THIS SHOP FOR RENTALS AT ALL COSTS. read more

Pro: Great service, very helpful staff, good quality workmanship, good knowledge, no BS. Con: Prices were a bit high, but there are some awesome deals to be found in there if you look around enough. I went in there with a friend for two different reasons: He was getting some ski's serviced and some new poles, and I needed a snow jacket. I had missed the Black Friday deals, but was looking for a deal anyway. I found a jacket that I liked that was only just out of my price range, explained I was kitting myself out for the first time and the staff helped make the decision an easy one by knocking a few dollars off the price. The big thing that I didn't know walking in was that there's a snowboarding shop on the right of the service area, and a skiing shop on the left of the service area. But the staff were really helpful in redirecting me. -1 star for the slightly high prices and not stocking one of the slightly up market brands. Other than that, this is as good as it gets. read more

I just rented skis here for a week. Pros: it's pretty cheap. For a whole week, poles and boots and insurance included, it was $80. Unfortunately, thats the only pro I can think of. Unless you're buying, the selection for rentals is not good, and they don't have twin tips or powder skis available for anyone over about 5 feet. Additionally, they weren't helpful about what skis I should be getting for my skill level, and I generally got the feeling they wanted me out of there. I don't like writing bad reviews, but if you need skis for rent, go somewhere else unless you're tight on money. read more

I plan to return to skiing after a long hiatus and visited Ski Mart Bellevue yesterday to inquire about renting skis, boots and poles for a ski lesson I have scheduled for Friday. All of the associates were gathered at the front door and one approached me and I explained what I was needing. She pretty much said they couldn't help me and pretty much ditched me at the door. None of the other associates bothered to intervene with any assistance. Perhaps because I am a senior citizen? Whatever the reason, this experience speaks to a business culture that is NOT customer service driven. A shock because I was a loyal Sturtevant customer for over 2 decades. The good news is Gerk's in Issaquah not only fitted me with equipment but told me to take it with me yesterday and return it Saturday morning. Oh yes, and they are only charging me for one day rental. Gerks has earned not only my future ski purchases but my bicycle business as well. A much better outcome and an affirmation that outstanding customer service is NOT a thing of the past. I hope leadership will use my feedback as an opportunity for growth. read more

My intention was to pass by Sturtevants and then check out ski mart, however,I programmed the wrong address into the Tom Tom and ended up at Ski Mart - AND GLAD I DID. The staff were incredibly helpful (wish I got his name). I ended up with new boots - and the guy who assisted me spent an amazing amount of time explaining, giving me options, fitting the inserts - simply great. The deals on some of the clothing (many last year's lines) were incredible, so walked out with more than I was intending. read more

So it is my second review of the shop. I decided to give them another chance but it was a mistake. I went through other reviews looks like I'm not alone, their customer service sucks and people just lazy to look for another option and keep coming and they use it. Almost feels like we need to open another ski shop and get this one out of business. So this time, I came to buy two new pairs of skis for my daughters. I got helped by two very nice guys and got two pairs of skis for them. I got back to the register and asked can I put on sale my old ones. The lady said yes, I asked are you sure because last time I was refused because of Saturday. She said yes bring it in. I also assumed me buying for $1,100 helps, but I was wrong. (I need to say it is a very silly policy business-wise, put the equipment on sale takes less than most of the sales and probably has a higher margin, so if you want to optimize your employees time this is the better business to focus, but who says these guys know what are they doing). Meanwhile, the lady at the register disappeared and a new lady named Kesha showed up, the same who was super negative to me last time when I wanted to put the boots on sale and was silly enough to come Saturday. She asked me how she can help and I said I want to buy those and sell those, it was no line and I went outside to bring the skis from the car and came back in 30 sec. When I reappeared she was explaining some gentlemen that he needs to change skier type for her daughter from 1 to 2 so they can do the adjustment. The explanation literally took 15 min and I was patiently waiting. When they were done the line was 3-4 other people behind the first gentlemen. However, our Kesha is super process oriented and not customer oriented so she said the line starts from left of her and I'm at the right and therefore she is not going to serve me (it did not bother her that to the left of her, there is no space to put anything, so I guess she was expecting me to hold two pairs of skis and two pairs of boots in the air). After my some weak protest ant two people who have been served ahead if me, Kesha was kind enough to charge 1,100 dollars, but refused to take my skis for sale, and recommended (yes, right) to come another day than Saturday. I was amazed, I just paid you eleven hundred bucks, don't you have some respect for the customers. I asked for a manager but turns out Kesha is the manager. She is clearly equiped (maybe in the zoo, or juvenile correction center, for sure not in the customer-facing business). After me waiting another 10-15 min, some other nice lady was kind enough and took my skis in. The whole process took maybe 2 min.... We just need to find some other business to give our money....these guys only know how to apologize on yelp and do nothing! read more

Service at both Sturtevants and their ski mart was over the top helpful. Jordan at the ski mart was particularly attentive in that he was adjusting my boots to my skis and noticed the skis were dry and need of wax. I never would have noticed this and he went above snd beyond to put a layer of wax on educated me on waxing and spring for the season. He was knowledgeable, cheerful and cared about my experience. Terrible service at the rental counter. My wife was looking for a performance ski rental package for the weekend. They have a weekend rate that we thought would work perfectly. We stopped in on Thursday evening and asked if it was possible to get fitted that evening and maybe take them with us that evening or stop by the next day to pick them up. (We were only skiing on Saturday and Sunday, but she was only able to stop in and get fitted Thursday evening.) The guys working at the counter decided that instead of politely telling me that this really was not an option and try to help me figure out another solution, they proceeded to speak to me like I was an idiot and were extremely condescending. We took our business to Edge and Spoke instead and they helped us come up with a great solution for less money! I will never try to rent from here again! read more

I recently had a negative experience at this place. After sharing this incident, the manager reached out to me and made things right. The store manager Dave was awesome. Super knowledgeable about gear which made it really easy to ask him questions and get the right info. I will probably never buy anything from here without chatting him up beforehand. I must warn you their return policy isn't nearly as good as Evo or REI. The cheaper priced get comes with a cost that you better not have to return for anything other than a manufactures defect. And make sure you snap a picture of the receipt as soon as it comes out of the printer because they don't typically look up that info. read more

Hell yeah! This place was awesome. I'm in the market for skis but because we're in the middle of the 2013 ski season and because I have only gone skiing a handful of times in the last few years, I thought it'd be best to rent for an upcoming trip. And based on that experience I'll decide whether to keep my snowboard or give it up for a new set of skis. I called around, conducted a Yelp search and even relied on Google for some info. I found a few places online but Ski Mart's equipment and rental options really caught my eye. Not only did they rent performance gear and better quality goods, they also had really, REALLY reasonable prices. As in, the cheapest I could find in a 30 mile radius. So while I'm not usually inclined to drive to the Eastside, I wanted to check Ski Mart out. Lots of the previous Yelp reviews seem to be outdated and lacking in real information, so I popped in and found out that the reviews couldn't be of any help to me in 2013. And now here I am, making sure that people know this place is actually AWESOME! First, I called ahead. Then I got a little lost (whoops!) and called for directions. Both times the person (or people) on the other end were super friendly and helpful. When I got to the store there was plenty of parking - another bonus you don't find in Seattle - and I was actually welcomed warmly by two folks standing at the register near the door. I looked up and spotted a clearly marked sign that said RENTALS. So I just smiled and told them I was renting and one of the guys said, "Great. Olivia is over there and she'll be happy to help!" I walk over to the rental section and Olivia appears and gives me the rundown. She was incredibly friendly and definitely interested in making sure I got the right equipment. We chatted about how long I've been skiing, my skill level, where I was headed and how long I'd be gone. Then I was instructed to use a computer to enter all of my info and print it out. Within a minute I was ready and Olivia helped me find everything. She sized my feet and as we talked she even informed me that while I was going to have the skis for 5 days, I'd be using them over the weekend which meant that I'd be charged a weekend rental fee. So if opted to just rent the skis for an entire week, it'd come out to be less expensive. It'd also give me some extra time to return the skis because I live 20 miles away. I appreciated that she gave me this option because she could have said nothing and I would have paid more money to have the skis for less time! Her customer service skills were tops and when I left I had practically felt like I'd made a new friend. After I was all set up and ready to go I headed back to the counter, got rung up and even was told about a sale they're having soon in case I do decide to buy skis or snow gear. Which I am thinking of doing! So in addition to coming back when I drop the rentals off, I'll make sure to browse the merchandise and see what I find. Otto was more than helpful and patient with the arduous trial and error process that was involved with making sure my boots fit my feet exactly how they should. Otto and the staff here are not only here to make sure that your boots fit exactly how they should, but also make it a point to educate you on the process off how they get your boots to fit and why they do the things they do throughout the entire process.
