Ski boots
Justin M.

I stopped by for a walk-in ski boot fitting. I was added to a short waitlist. After a few minutes, the tech, named Ernie, greeted me. Ernie was friendly and seemed eager to help despite the approaching closing time. Ernie measured my foot size and got to work having me try a few different boots/sizes. Ernie didn't get the slightest bit annoyed with all of my finicky notes about where my foot fit and where it was too uncomfortable. It took some doing, but we were able to narrow the boots down to something that was comfortable, fit well, and was great quality. Ernie also spent time teaching me some tricks about ski boots that I hadn't heard before. Thank you Ernie and the staff at Sturtevant's for your great service!

I needed a helmet for skiing. I have been putting it off because I suffer from headaches. Ski helmets don't work for me, go figure? I have tried everything. I have called manufacturers to see if I can get a custom helmet but no avail. So I decided this year to give it another try. I ask for help at the front counter and a very nice woman, Ginny, says she can. I explain my headaches and how helmets haven't been working for me. I also explain for some reason bike helmets work but ski helmets don't. She said she completely understands for many of her friends suffer from headaches. She told me she liked the Giro helmet, the entry level one, it is simple and rests higher on the forehead. I gave it a try and we waited a few minutes to see what happens. She told me not to tighten it down for a helmet lose is better than a helmet at all. She is speaks wisdom there. Well it worked, after about 10 minutes no pain, no headache. The helmet was loose but it wasn't giving me a headache! She also encouraged me to get a pair of googles to go with the helmet and the Giro goggles fit the helmet wonderfully. I was a bit worried, so much on the head but it worked! When I go again, I will definitely make sure Ginny in working that day. She understands what skiers need!

I appreciated very much the opportunity to slow down and become aware of the intimate connection with the earth and its creatures. Being immersed in the Washington wilderness, learning hands-on skills, and reconnecting to nature and where food truly comes from was powerful. Field dressing and butchering the goat was a real highlight. Eating that same meat throughout the week made the process tangible and meaningful. For me personally, there was an emotional journey in witnessing the taking of a life and honoring it by turning it into food. We were also well fed with amazing meals throughout each day, all prepared by Jim, the chef during the whole experience. I successfully hunted my first squirrel, got in some rifle practice, and was introduced to the basics of tracking. I also connected with others who were on their own journey to learn more about hunting, which added to the sense of shared purpose and depth. Bruce is a deep, present, and grounded teacher. It was a gift to learn from him and to meet his lovely wife and daughter. If you're looking for a real, holistic introduction to hunting, this course delivers.
