Fried Brussels Sprouts

Student prince is truly a hidden gem. I grew up in the Springfield area and hadn't tried them until recently. I have been missing out! I dream of their Brussel sprouts honestly because they are AMAZING. I've had the schnitzel and the cod from here and they were both delicious. If you need somewhere new to try, stop by student prince.

Apple Strudel with vanilla ice cream

"You can't leave here until you try the Strudel" I'm told. I enter "steak" into Yelp and Student Prince comes up in my search. I start reading about this spot, Student Prince is an authentic German restaurant. I speak fluent beer so my choice is now made up. I had a big lunch so I figured I'd drink a pint of good German beer and a small plate before I'm on my way. Yeah right! My waitress was fantastic, she was suggesting all these great dishes but I didn't have the room. I started with a tap beer and Jägerschnitzel (Schnitzel with Mushroom Gravy, my favorite) the dish came with two sides, sauerkraut and spaetzle. The Jägerschnitzel is a big cutlet, there is a lot of food on my plate. I take a bite of Jägerschnitzel along with some sauerkraut. I take it slow and I was able to knock it all out. The Jägerschnitzel was very good, this is a fantastic spot. The restaurant feels very authentic, from the booths to the bar, they did a great job in recreating a German pub. My waitress kept coming over to make sure I'm ok. She told me to make some room because the Strudel shouldn't be missed. I'm told it's also topped with vanilla ice cream. Another great dish and highly recommended. Student Prince, I don't get the name. I'm glad I found this spot on Yelp. If you want a great German restaurant, Student Prince is a must.

Five stars for good comfort food and service with a smile. Authentic atmosphere and makes me just want to keep drinking more beer. The prices I think are a little high to be honest. But for the flavors that I don't find much of at home it was a nice treat. I will be back when my travels take me here.

It's a rainy day, this restaurant can warm you up! They have an ethnic German decor; Shellie was our waitress, she was very attentive and pleasant. I had German Pork Schnitzel with sauerkraut, hubby had Reuben , we all enjoy our food very much, this is our first time traveling through Springfield, it definitely gave me a great first impression.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon. Although we had a reservation, we probably could have walked right in and gotten seated immediatly. The dining room and bar area are both very attractive with dark woodwork, and we were seated right next to a gorgeous stained glass window. Our server was friendly, knowledgable, and very helpful in telling us what the top menu items are since it was our first time visiting The Student Prince. To start, we ordered the Fried Camembert and the potato pancakes. Both were really good and we would order them again. For my entree, I ordered Paprika schnitzel with spatzle and pan fried potatoes. Yum! It was excellent and the serving size was large enough for left overs. My friend ordered a burger, and although I scoffed at him for not trying something German, his burger did look amazing. We had previously been to a different German restaurant in a nearby town, but we much preferred The Student Prince and will look forward to visiting again when we are back in Springfield.

Loved our time at Student Prince looking at the German decor throughout the restaurant and sitting at the bar. The drinks were poured perfectly from the bartender with the Olympics playing on the tv. My burger was perfectly seasoned and I could taste every flavor from the mushrooms to the oozy egg on top. The pretzel bun is a nice bonus on top of everything else and just puts this restaurant above all else. The delicious chicken sliders are sold individually so you can have as many as you'd like! The fresh red potato skins in the mashed potatoes made us feel at home with sense of the home cooked meal. Absolutely delish!

The Student Prince is always a worth a visit if you are in Springfield. I tried the Veal Sommer Schnitzel and it was delicious. Oysters Casinos were cooked perfectly. It's a very cool German style restaurant. Shelley, our waitress was friendly and attentive.. I highly recommend making a trip here and enjoying some German beer and great food.

This spot is amazing. The menu is filled with something for everyone, and the food is delicious. The staff were all welcoming and pleasant. I love the decor here too, makes me reminisce of my visits to Germany years who. If you're looking for good German food you have to try this spot.

The bar area.

A little disappointing based on my pasts visits years ago. The Sauerbraten I ordered, I believe, was an eye of the round cut rather than a customery, chuck or Rump Roast which would have been infinitely more flavorful than the eye round. Meat was tender but lacking in flavor and very dry. Spätzle while not bad, I don't think it was made fresh, might have been a frozen product. Nothing wrong with frozen products but fresh is best when doing dumplings. Can't say I picked up on the gingersnap flavor in the gravy either. Rotkohl was very good, however; the real standout was the Sticky Pudding it was phenomenal! Service was good; the ambiance is exceptional, for $91 incl. tip I would have expected more.

Leaders that I've stopped by.

With the setting of History and fine dining it provides the setting for friends alike with reliability and a lobster season that you cannot miss.

Half of Reuben Sandwich

I went here for lunch during the week, and chose to eat inside vs outside because it was a hot day. Everyone working there was very friendly, and inside was very clean. I ordered the Reuben sandwich. It was really good (I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a nicely stacked Reuben). My photo only shows 1/2 the sandwich because I ate the other half right away (it looked, and was, very good ).

Great place to grab a pint. Lovely ambiance, and personable wait staff! Can't wait to return and try some food items.

The dining experience here is outstanding. Food is delicious, service is friendly and attentive, and I love the atmosphere. My last 2 visits I've had the schnitzel, and the sausage plate. You get a crazy amount of food in each order. I took leftovers back with me after both visits. Decent selection of wine, and an abundance of beers. Both times my servers were beyond attentive even though during my first visit, the bar had a private event happening and the atmosphere was insane, I feared I would never get waited on, but was greeted within minutes. The second visit I was able to sit at the bar after lunch and before dinner, so it was very quiet. I believe the bartender's name was Jennifer. She was awesome. Also love the German kneipen themed restaurant.

Delicious German food. We stopped along the way of a 1500 mile trip. Well worth it! We'll probably stop on our return trip as well.

Atmosphere, 4 stars. The menu here is almost exactly same as the famous Student Prince restaurant in Springfield. Parking is much easier but I prefer the Student Prince's old school 1940's decor. The prices are similar ... high. 3 p.m. dinner only menu. Seriously?? The prices are double vs. lunch. Who eats dinner at 3 p.m. Those 10 minutes in between 2:50 pm and 3:00 pm cost me about $25 extra. The worst part of my meal ... Apple Strudel dessert. This isn't apple strudel. It's a weird thin-skinned apple pie with a lot of almost creamy chopped apple filling. The filling seems to contain cream of some sort and tasted a bit sour/spoiled. There is no satisfying crispiness or crunch ... it's a sloppy mess. Definitely recommend not getting this. Jager Schnitzel ... The brown gravy sauce with mushrooms was fantastic. However, there wasn't enough of it and the pork was dry and pounded way too thin, so it felt a little like eating a piece of cardboard with panko breading. Spaetzel ... Great. On the small side but perfectly buttered and tasted great. Red cabbage was also very good. Salad ... Came with the meal but I was charged $3 more for Roquefort cheese dressing. Wasn't told about the upcharge ... but the other options for dressing weren't very exciting. The Roquefort is a few crumbles of cheese mixed into sweet Russian dressing. Probably would just go with a regular dressing. The staff was great and the waitress was so perky and helpful. The host was extremely nice and accommodating. Nothing bad to say about the staff here ... they are probably the only reason I am giving 4 vs. 3 stars. The prices seem very high ... $19 for 2 sausages ... $26 for Schnitzel ... $14 - $19 for appetizers. $13 pretzel. It's all high quality stuff for sure. But, after tip, my bill was $60 for Schnitzel, a beer and a so-called Struedel. I guess that's kind of everywhere these days though. If you like German food, which is hard to find, they've been doing it for a long time. It's good ... but nothing amazing. The restaurant is clean ... staff is nice ... and menu is unique and authentic. Beer list is good and though $9 each, it comes in a tall glass ... 22 ounces?

The hostess seemed , at first, shocked to see us. Bad portent, this was going to be interesting.... So we put aside our misgivings and ordered. Glad we did. We were ordering off of the lunch menu, which I take to be similar to the dinner menu , but with smaller portions. Polish fare, nicely executed. How can you make kielbasa and kraut interesting? Take perfectly cooled kraut and top it with a delicious roasted kielbasa sliced in sort of a Hasselback style and accompany it with feathery mashed potatoes. If I can copy the kraut and spuds this is going to start showing up in my kitchen. The stuffed cabbage was perfect, a thin skin of cabbage over a pork and rice stuffing with a lovely light tomato sauce. Yum! One thing that I had seen on the menu that I had lusted for was the pyzy.a potato dough stuffed with ground meat. Our waitress said they had run out the day before but she would check with the kitchen. If we could wait for it to be served at the end of the meal, we could have some. We could , we did. Not my grandmothers cepilleni(sp?) the Lithuanian equivalent but good. Sort of like a stuffed quenelle. Other commenters suggested that the filling was a bit dry and I don't disagree. On our way back from meeting our new grandson for the first time in Rhinebeck ((born early this…read moremorning, 10-4-25, and everyone doing splendidly) , we stopped at one of our favorite local places for authentic tasting German food--Jaeger Haus (5084 NY-9G) in Tivoli, NY.  My one sentence review for card-carrying members of team Cliff Notes: "German beer on tap, a good selection of German wines, and authentic tasting German cuisine at really reasonable prices served up by friendly staff in an environment which just exudes Gemütlichkeit."  Everyone else is invited to continue reading, Bitte. There used to be numerous German restaurants in NYC and throughout upstate NY, but over the years those numbers have dwindled substantially to a handful.  A relatively new addition to the local Hudson Valley dining scene Jaeger Haus was started in 2018 (in a 70 year old restaurant building) and serves up seriously tasty and authentic tasting German beer, wine, and food.  We've dined there a few times over the last two years of visiting this year--the mood is relaxed, the beer is delicious, and food remind us of our travels to Germany and Austria.  The menu is tight and by that I mean it's focused on what they do well--which is traditional German food. While I wish they might add a few classic German appetizers to their menu for variety, their range of entrees provides ample choice and I am slowly making my way through those selections. Lola, one of our servers for the evening, quickly took our drink orders.  I ordered a mug of Hofbrau Original Lager (on tap) and after being given a tasting, my wife ordered a pint of Hofbrau Weissbier (which is similar to the sort of wheat beer she occasionally enjoys).  So refreshing.  A basket of house-made thinly sliced Roggenbrot (rye bread) arrived soon after our drinks with softened butter, lightly sprinkled with sea salt. We passed on the appetizers, knowing that our entrees would be substantial.  My wife ordered the Wienershcnitzel which comes with braised red cabbage and house-made spaetzle lightly sauced with a cream gravy.  These are classic sides which one can find served in restaurants from Vienna or Munich to Heidelberg or Berlin.  I ordered exactly the same thing (having tried other dishes on our prior visits), except I ordered my Wienerschnitzel "a la Holstein" (with a fried local farm egg).  The egg, especially the large yolk, provides an added level of lusciousness to the crispy veal.   Our meals arrived in due course.  They were gorgeous to look at and ate even better than they looked.  The spaetzles were soft and fluffy, the red cabbage was rich and well spiced, and the veal . . . the veal was heavenly.  Crisp on the outside, fork tender on the inside, dipping into a bit of the egg yolk (in my case); goodness what a delightful taste sensation. Just delicious.  We both earned "clean plate" certificates tonight--suitable for framing--felt satiated, but not overly full (which is where we like to end a meal).  We nursed our beers a bit longer, sharing memories from this special day, paid our bill (the bill encouraged customers to tip in cash, which we did), thanked the staff, bid the co-owner "danke schön und Wiedersehen" and we were on our way.

The decor reminds you of a German Brauhaus. We had 2pm reservations and were seated promptly. Our…read morewaitress was friendly and attentive.
