There's no clear communication between the actual company and the Storage company that has our things. I've been trying for months to figure out when my daughter can get her things delivered after studying abroad, and all I get is the runaround, disconnected, More runaround, and rude sales people. We are still waiting to figure out when she can get her things and she's already back at school. No one can give me a clear answer. I will never ever ever use this company again. I recommend Big Red instead they were perfect. They were professional and communicative, I don't know why I switched from them to Storage Squad, but never again. read more

If I could give this storage company zero stars, I would. They were very expensive with multiple hidden fees. They withdraw money from our account without notice. We noticed double billing on our bank account and had to call and insist that the bogus charge be removed. They completely dismantled our furniture on pick up and then say that it is not their policy to put it back together. We paid extra for re-assembly but it was not honored. Our delivery person Ron was kind and courteous, but when I asked him for the manager to voice our complaint , he noted that Nick was catching a flight. Our furniture had damages with missing screws. Issues included: (1) Misinformation - I was initially informed of a flat rate (despite my unique circumstances) and was slapped with a $450 bill on the front and back ends. That's nearly $1000 for a service for which I was originally quoted $400. (2) Tardiness - Items shipped a MONTH late. One evening, coming home from a nighttime class, I arrived to a tower of boxes stacked right up against my door. Getting settled was a nightmare. (3) Broken items - of both monetary and sentimental value. (4) AWFUL customer service - I spent a cumulative 20 hours through July and August on the phone, on hold, receiving mixed information, getting passed off to "the manager" (really just hung up on). I wasted so much time trying to contact them. (Not all the employees were awful. If Darius is reading this, he was very kind and tried his best, and if the animal rescue lady is reading this, I hope her animals are doing well, especially the pigs.) Overall, I give 0 stars. I have never had the need for a review of a company, but the customer service and management of our account was so bad I had to for this. For our May 2023 pick up I paid extra to have the items collected during a three hour time period. They did not collect the items during the scheduled time. I paid for the delivery of my son's boxes to be delivered between 9-12pm. This cost an extra $75. We had a confirmation email that we would receive them. Not received. It's 4pm now. We could not get anyone to answer their work line before they closed today at 2pm. When my son's roommate got his delivery at 3, we were told that we were not on the schedule. They cannot deliver until tomorrow. And they are trying to charge me another $25 to bring the boxes up. Do not use this company. They are managed poorly. read more

Zero stars. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have had. At pickup in May and at dropoff in August, they showed up hours after the scheduled window--even hours after the a later time they asked for at the last minute! We had reserved a room service for the May pickup, where they pick up boxes from the room instead of the front of the building. The morning of the pickup, and within the pickup window, they sent a message saying that they weren't going to pick up from the room at all, but instead would get my kid's stuff from the front of the building. So it's a good thing we were able to haul everything up the stairs ourselves, because there certainly wasn't time to arrange help. We also heard from other students that their stuff never got picked up at all, and one of the dorm maintenance people said there were boxes left in students' rooms with Storage Squad labels. Total fail. The poor guy driving the truck said that he was having to do all the pickups that day alone. That is not acceptable from a management point of view. They should have either hired more staff or had their management team out providing the services they promised. Then in August (today, actually) we had a pickup window scheduled from 10:30-1. It is now 4:10, and they are just rolling up. Clearly, this company has management and staffing issues, and this is not a one-time problem. I cannot recommend this company to anyone. In the spring, we are going to rent a storage locker and a U-Haul, because it would ultimately end up taking less time and being less work doing everything ourselves than using Storage Squad. read more

I needed my items stored for only a month because I intended to come back to campus and they imposed a ridiculous fee of 150 dollars. Storage Squad lures in first years/ first timers, with promises of "an easy, stress free solution for storing their items over the summer" and their over use of the word "free." They made me realize after my experience that none of that is 'REAL'. I should have seen the red flag in the "charge by the item" tag, but I was more concerned with other things, such as booking a flight home, and storing my things somewhere safe. Now seemingly, storing with them would alleviate any concerns of where to put my things over the break, which was the most important thing, plus the ease of pick up on campus all at a supposedly affordable rate. I can now tell you, that nothing is free with them in reality, not even the reservation (TO BOOK an appointment) which cost $35 for starters. No college student has one or two boxes alone to store after spending a full year on campus, and it was in my naivete that I trusted this seemingly affordable service only to end up with a huge bill of $900+!!!! While they carry my everlasting regret, I will say that the people who helped me carry my boxes into the moving van were kind enough. P.s. Reaching them is a also near impossible. read more

I went abroad this Semester and found that their service was efficient and the people who picked up my boxes were extremely nice! I had limited options since there are often more people who are willing to store over the summer, but I was satisfied with the in-room service and how quick everything was! I did have to wait about an hour into my allocated time slot, but for me, that was fine since they gave a window of time and arrived within that window of time. Practical advice for the storage process: - I recommend to people who are using this service to use their boxes that they provide so that they aren't able to argue about the prices of your items. - Don't be last minute (i.e. book the appointment right before your flight) - I wasn't able to carry my things out of my room (and I don't have an elevator), the in-room pick up is worth the $20 if you need it! This is my first review of anything in my life. The reason I took the time to write this review is because I believe that I was wrongly charged and Storage Squad is not giving me a good reason why. I wanted to store my mini fridge and I thought it would be considered a "Standard Item" according to Storage Squad's website. My fridge is 3.764 cu/ft and the Standard Items are considered anything that's 2-4 cu/ft. That being said, instead of being charged $37.00, I was charge $57.00. That might not seem like a lot, but for a university student who is going to use summer storage for many more years, the extra charge adds up. The only reasoning they gave was that "The standard cube fridges are the same height as a mega box." The Mega Box has the dimensions of 24 by 18 by 16. Through my research of different brands, I have not found a mini fridge with a height that short. Even when I asked them for an example of a fridge that can fit in the Mega Box, they simple said "A standard cube fridge would be one that would fit our mega box dimensions, 24 by 18 by 16." I understand that the boxes were designed to make the most profit, but I don't believe it is right to wrongly charge someone, especially since my mini fridge is considered a "Standard Item," and should be charged according to what they state on the website. Instead, my fridge was charged as an "XL Item," which makes no sense since XL Items are anything that's 5-7 cu/ft and my fridge is 3.764 cu/ft. They even said on their website under Storage Squad's Core Principles that they don't believe in "unfair fees." I am disappointed and for my first time using summer storage, this has created an unfavorable first impression. I would have let this go if they had given me a good reason. Even when I argued that my mini fridge is a "Standard Item" they literally copy and pasted a previous email and resent it to me. The reason I gave any star was because the people who picked up my items were polite. During one semester, I needed my stored items four days before Storage Squad officially began delivering, in order to move into my new apartment by their mandated time. Worst company I've ever dealt with. I'm not just talking about how late the moving truck was in coming to pick up my boxes (4 days late, right before my flight took off) or that they were 8 days late in moving my boxes to the destination ... OR that my boxes were all but destroyed. I am talking about basic communication skills. I kept trying to get a straight answer as to why my moving truck wasn't ready to pick up my items, but they kept putting me on hold, transferring me to someone that would never pick up, or basically lying to me. I'm a self-supporting 19yr old who spent over $600 storing my things with storage squad for two terms. When it turned out I couldn't go back to my Ivy League for financial reasons, my mom drove six hours to pick up my things (I'm on the West Coast). Only 4 of 5 boxes were there and she could tell because they were marked /5. She called and they said they'd call her back ASAP. After an hour she gave up and started to head home. I've emailed THREE times and each time received a one line response within a couple of hours apologizing and promising they'll get back to me ASAP. I spent $70 on this box alone and I might as well have thrown away its contents-- I essentially paid a company to steal my stuff. Storage squad failed to do the one extremely simple thing it exists to do and is neither reliable nor responsive. Would not recommend. Update: Storage Squad has confirmed after three months that they lost my box and offered to refund just that box as well as a $100 credit towards future storage, which I don't want and wouldn't use for obvious reasons, if I removed this review (see images). I have not been compensated for the value of my possessions they lost, feel a complete refund would be more appropriate, and would not recommend their service. I paid them for five boxes, they lost one fifth of the property I entrusted to them, and they refunded the cost of storing it with no other amends made. It's not as if I never stored the box with them-- I entrusted it to them according to their promises and they LOST MY PROPERTY. Their promises were lies and their response, to refund just that box as if I merely never stored it with them and didn't lose property, doesn't make me regret the situation or my choice to trust them any less. The absolute WORST experience I have EVER had with a school storage company...and I have 3 college age boys! They never showed up at the designated location to drop off packing supplies and left my son and a dozen other students stranded without notification and having to scramble to find boxes during finals week. Then I called to speak to a supervisor and they refused to connect me with one. And also told me they couldn't deliver any boxes now that the schedule was done. My son ended up getting his own boxes...okay, not a huge problem. They then sent an email two days before pickup, as planned, for the scheduled pick up time. But guess what...? They NEVER SHOWED! In the middle of finals! No call! No email! After business hours! I sent several emails describing what happened and the times I needed for the next day because my son was leaving campus immediately after his last final. I tried to call but couldn't get in touch with anyone and couldn't leave a message because there phone system didn't accept messages even though they say they do. Finally I received an email at 1:45am with a new scheduled time but it was during my son's final and then the time of his flight. When I called them to explain the issue and see about changing the pick up time they said they would try but couldn't promise. I also asked about insurance on the boxes because I was concerned with my experience thus far. But get this...they don't insure if you don't use their packing supplies! So I called around And found Big Red Moving company. They were able to drop everything and pick up my son's boxes with no problems, immediately. I emailed storage squad detailing and supporting my experience and canceling my storage with them...and now they're trying to charge me a cancellation fee. I did a bit of research prior to deciding which company to use to store my stuff for last summer, and then this upcoming semester and summer. After searching for awhile, Storage Squad seemed to come up again and again as a reliable, friendly service, whose employees were timely with responses and nice to speak with. Whenever I had a question that arose prior to the actual pick-up window, and they always responded quickly. The first time I used Storage Squad, in August 2018, they were a few hours late with delivering my items. However, I realize that there are lots of things that can happen and it is challenging to deliver every thing on time. The prices are relatively reasonable, compared to other services in Ithaca. I wish I could give negative stars to Storage Squad. In short they kept our boxes for 3 weeks and in that time managed to SHATTER our TV screen, shatter the glass on a very expensive original painting as well as crack its frame and every single of of the 13 boxes was damp and looked as if they were not stored properly. Ie: ripped and dented. All this is just 3 weeks worth of storage. When I emailed them the pictures attached here as well requesting guidance on the compensation for the damages caused I got a short email with a copied pasted statement that they aren't liable for damages and that I ought to claim a maximum of 100 USD from UPS for the damages. We paid a large sum of money to (what we erroneously assumed) was a professional company which would store and ship our items with respect and help us shift them from Ithaca to NYC, and what a disappointing and costly mistake it has been. Please allow me to share that both the painting and the TV were boxed separately, with bubble wrap as well as cardboard and boxes purchased from Home Depot that were strong but that much wrapping was still not enough for the horrible process/procedures Storage Squad has in place. The so called Pro: -They are cheaper than other reputable moving companies. Con: -for all the damages they will incur on your household items you will be in a HUGE loss so they are far more expensive in the long run -they wipe their hands clean of you and are not helpful at all or even apologetic about the damages and losses! -unprofessional Bottom line: if you have anything of worth to ship, please pay more upfront to a reputable company and avoid a lot of loss. read more

I researched to find the most affordable storage company. After a long search, I settled with Storage Squad. Since i had two huge suitcases, I tried to find a company that took items by count and not by weight. Also, other company's pricing was too confusing with measurements and all. Storage squad was simple- flat rate for different sized suitcase/duffle. It was really easy to understand. And the price per item was the most reasonable. The people were really nice and their communication was great. I would get a reply to email questions within a day! I did the hot spot pick up and it was excellent. I went close to the spot because I did not know exactly where to wait. They were a bit late, but not too much. When they arrived, they helped me move it. It was pretty heavy so really grateful for that. The two people were also extraordinary! They were so nice!! We even had a small little conversation. As for delivery, they delivered it to me promptly and even helped me bring it up the steps (I live on level ground, so they helped me carry it a few steps into my house). Nothing was destroyed. Everything was in its original condition (except my laundry detergent had spilled.. but it was kind of my fault since I put it on the bottom of my suitcase...). I never trusted storage before and seemed like a hassle, but Storage Squad changed that. Definitely the best storage experience I had. Also they charged my credit card twice so I had to call them several times to get the cost refunded. I filled out the online application requesting a storage pickup from my apartment in the next two days. I noticed that I wasn't sent a confirmation email right away. I sent an email to customer service asking what time should I expect the storage people to show up, I was told that I would be contacted by the end of the day with a scheduled time. I will never use this company for summer storage again. They overcharged me on items that aligned with prices with the sizes of the item. They also charged me for items that I didn't even have such as "miscellaneous", which, would technically only be a safe that was less than 2 sq. ft and they charged it as an XL item. They argued with me over email, and when I asked for the prices to be reduced to what it should have been (based on the sizes of my items), they just argued with me. It will be much more worthwhile to find a friend with a car that is willing to share a storage unit with you, or just rent a unit for yourself. Although it may be just a little bit more hassle, you will save yourself some money and stress. My boxes were already opened when I received them. A lot of the items were missing, including my monitor, all of my shoes, and severals clothings. I filled out a damage claim back in the beginning of February, which said "it may take up to 30 days before your inquiry is fully resolved." It has been 30 days. I didn't get a single confirmation e-mail or progress report whether they are actually trying to find my missing items. Highly unprofessional. Unresponsive and unhelpful. I shopped around for storage companies in Ithaca and found Storage Squad to be the best option because of their larger and free standard sized boxes. I set up an appointment time to pick up my free boxes, packing tape, and labels. I appreciated the fact that I didn't have to pay for the boxes and didn't need to use all that I had ordered. Storage Squad seemed like a good idea: convenient and somewhat cost effective for a student like me lacking a car and people to help me move. Don't get me wrong, the people who do the actual moving are nice guys trying to make a buck. I'm more upset at the warehouse crew and customer service. So I gave Storage Squad five boxes. They delivered back 4 boxes. Where did my other box go? Into the void? I had even labelled all of my boxes "4 out of 5" "3 out of 5" etc, and they had CROSSED OUT the 5 I wrote on my boxes and wrote 4 over it in sharpie. The movers told me to contact customer service and so I did. The woman on the phone was very sweet but I could tell she really had no power to help and said she would call me back by the next day. No one ever called me back, and so I emailed their customer support. No reply. I understood they were busy, but not knowing where this box was made me really distraught because it was filled with all the journals I have been writing since I was 13 years old along with letters from a deceased friend. I wouldn't mind if it was a box full of sweaters or any other collection of my earthly belongings, but these were priceless to me. I decided to bother Storage Squad a little by calling them once a day until they found this box. They didn't really care when I told them what was inside or even try to look for it, because I eventually had to take matters into my own hands. I was about to threaten to go to their warehouse and find the damn box myself. Then my friend gave me the number of one of the movers and I texted him in desperation, saying I would pay him $200 to find and deliver my box in their warehouse. Within minutes, he texted back that he found it in the warehouse. Right in the area where all my other boxes were. SO IT WASN'T EVEN THAT HARD TO FIND AND THEY JUST REFUSED TO FIND IT FOR ME UNTIL I HIRED A THIRD PARTY TO RESCUE MY PROPERTY. I am a very lenient person with companies. I understand and forgive their mistakes in most cases, but to me this is unforgivable. Don't use this service if you want all your boxes to come back to you, or just don't pack away anything of sentimental value. Storage Squad provides storage services to college students, so I am willing to forgive their timeliness for their good rates and friendly customer service. This is the most unprofessional storage business in Ithaca. Not only were they very uncooperative with scheduling pickup with me, they then shipped me half of my things, which not to mention were wet, smelled of mold and any class or ceramic things I had (my mirror, mugs, ect) were all shattered. I am writing this review after my box has been just picked-up. There are many issues with the service: 1) Even if the website allows you to schedule a pick-up on a particular date, you are at the mercy of the company to let you know if they will be coming to pick the stuff. The site says you will be informed 24-28 hours before the pick-up. I have to drop multiple emails and then to my relief I was told 12 hours before the pick-up 2) There is clear overcharging, the website says $37 for a box I was given an invoice of $47 later. Can't trust them anymore. I hope I get my box back at the end of summer. Fingers-crossed. read more
