I'm not sure why this review is now sitting in drafts after several years... I'm pretty sure I posted it closer to the time I had visited this place... anyhow, I still remember the experience here, because it was the first and last time I went. Here's the scoop: this place is blown out of proportion on the prices. I remember I ordered a beef puff pastry dish, and it was so ridiculous what was brought out to me: a tiny filet with a phyllo dough biscuit on top. When it arrived I stared at it for a few seconds and started laughing. I was with my boyfriend at the time and he made comments about it. All I can say is, it made the jokes about the south appear as though they're based on a documentary. It was embarrassing, because I'm from the south. The French need to school the chef on how these are supposed to be made, so the southerners can save face on this one. read more

The shrimp cocktail was grainy and didn't taste fresh. The tuna stack, though super pretty, was flavorless, and the steak just wasn't worth the $50 we paid. I came here after going to Longhorn because they were short staffed and on a false wait. This restaurant is very pretty but like Longhorn, when I arrived they had many open tables and I had to wait about ten minutes. The service was very slow. The bread that they serve is unique and pretty tasty. We ordered the steak eggrolls for an appetizer and they were OK, nothing great and definitely not worth the price. I ordered a bottled beer and when it finally arrived the server poured it too fast and it foamed up all over the table. For the entrees we had the meatloaf and a burger. Like the appetizer, the entrees were just OK. My biggest takeaway is that for the prices they charge, the food and level of service is not worth it. Stoney River is your traditional American steakhouse. Definitely a step up from Longhorns but honestly not worth the price. Don't get me wrong....the atmosphere is great and my waitress was awesome as well but the food on the other hand, lacks in quality. The lobster bisque tasted fine and my ribeye steak was pretty good. However, the au gratin potatoes tasted old and not fresh (might have been a dish that they make a lot of and reheat when ordered). The sea bass dish we ordered came on a bed of spinach that was drenched in the saltiest sauce ever (I think it was all soy sauce). The best thing was probably the bread basket to be honest - I really liked the doughnut like texture of the bread and it had my favorite baked good accompaniment...poppyseeds!! Overall Stoney River gets the job done but misses the mark on the food taste. Went here for my birthday with my family of 5. The place is clean looking servers and all staff were wearing mask. The service in this place was actually great . The food was okay. The steak was cooked perfect. Mash potatoes were delicious so were the steak rolls. The Mac and cheese was sweet which we didn't care for. Spinach dip was lacking in flavor. Had a prickly pear drink which was actually nice and strong. Carrot cake is huge but not good too sweet and too much caramel. As loyal patrons at the Duluth location, it is sad to say that we were extremely disappointed tonight. We had a communication issue with a drink order and the waitress addressed it immediately. This is where it went wrong, the manager Lindsey came over with an attitude before even starting the conversation. She began to lecture us on how the drink is made and quite frankly it was ridiculous. I was infuriated by the way in which Lindsey handled herself and the situation. The steak was also very rare on one side and well done on another. We decided not to say anything as we already had a bad response from the manager. We spent over $190+ for a terrible experience. I made reservations for two and was seated almost immediately. We got a good seat in the house but our waitress was terrible. She never checked on us or let us know the status of our food. It took a total of 40 minutes from the time we got our salad until we got our entree (time stamps in pictures). We enjoyed the food but the service sucks. For a tab over $100 for 2 I'll skip this place and go to a Mexican restaurant or something fun. I never was into these fancy restaurants anyway. We love Stoney River in Duluth for dinner and usual service. Today we had brunch. Avocado Toast had red peppers in the avocado and it was too hot to enjoy. It was not on the menu that the Avocado had red peppers. I asked for poached eggs but if they didn't have them over medium. They were sunny side up. The service was slow and we received a check for 6 people when there were 2 of us. While they removed the charge for the Avocado Toast I would have thought that the manager may have come over as that is their style, typically to stop by to see if everything was ok. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time last night after passing it many times. Great atmosphere--has that good combination of energetic yet also cozy. Lots of great booths that line the windows and throughout the restaurant. Nice fireplace with seating around it. Our server was wonderful--very friendly and knowledgable, and never rushed us. Also very good. Gosh everything is good here! CREME BRULEE - $8 This dessert was huge - I'm so used to creme brulee being small but this was easily shareable between 3 people. We joined them for Christmas Eve dinner. It was busy, but they put us in a corner booth. The server took exceptional care of us. The kids were so excited for their "fancy dinner" they could barely contain themselves. We had a few starters. The steak rolls are amazing. Our entrees came and we dug in. Four coffee rubbed filets and a salad. Don't forget to order the smoked Gouda Mac and cheese. All our food was amazing. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Setting was warm and comfortable. The bill was close to $400 with wine for 5 people. That was a special dinner for us and worth the money. No need to spend 2x at Ruth's Chris IMO. Make sure you make a reservation well in advance. Had a wonderful dinner here tonight celebrating my son's 13th birthday! We usually head into the city for a steakhouse (Ruth's, Rathbun's, etc) but we decided to try a place closer to home. We were pleasantly surprised! I made a reservation online on their website and made a note that we were celebrating my son's bday. Almost everyone greeted him a happy birthday from the minute we walked in. He felt so special! We ordered appetizers, steaks, and dessert- everything was delicious! our server was so attentive and very nice! My first time at this restaurant was on a Saturday night so I made a reservation. Other than the parking situation and the noise level in the bar area, I give the overall experience 4/5 stars. At first I read "haricot verts" on the menu which seemed a little pretentious but the experience was pretty good. Pros: -Our reservation was for 7:45pm and we were seated about ten minutes early. -Our server, Jackson, took our drink order, answered our questions about the menu, and ensured everything was prepared correctly throughout the meal. Although my ribeye was cooked a little more than I prefer (more medium than medium rare), I accepted it as-is. The Oscar topping sauce (with lump crab meat and asparagus) had too much mustard in it for me but the steak was delicious otherwise. -I usually skip apps to save space for the entree but we tried the whiskey shrimp. That app, my order of creamed spinach, and my sister's creme brulee were all top notch-no complaints. -after paying the check, we chatted another 15 or so minutes and weren't rushed to leave. At least two people earlier in the meal checked in on us (looked like Jackson had a few tables to juggle) Cons: -most of the parking lot is roped off for valet (unsure of the price) so we parked in the strip mall lot next door and walked over -we were seated in a booth in the bar area which was almost what I call "sports bar" loud. It was difficult to converse at an "inside voice level" at times; whereas the outer squares of the restaurant are dimly lit and more intimate. Man, I had never heard of this place until my friend suggested it to celebrate completing her doctoral dissertation. I think I drove by it a coupe of times but paid it no mind. Now every time I see the name written or on the road, my mouth waters for those dinner rolls and that honey butter. What do you get when you cross a beignet and a traditional dinner roll? The gluten-filled amazingness that Stoney River serves while you wait for your apps and cocktails. Unfortunately, I waited a little too long to write this review but I know that I had two of a Stoney River signature bourbon cocktail that was really good. I had the Poke appetizer and a steak for dinner. Everything was oh so good. And the whole service team gets honorable mention. Our hostess greeted us with a smile and escorted us to the seat of our choosing since we arrived early and it was still pretty empty. The young lady who was our initial server took our drink and appetizer orders and got us some fresh baked dinner rolls while we waited. He shift ended and the we got a new server who kept it going with the same level of great service.
