Been coming to Local On North for years. It's small but cozy on the inside with a good number of bar seats. You can reserve on OpenTable as well. Service is always attentive, but not pesty. Burgers on the menu are always a great casual lunch or dinner. The 007 burger is my favorite. The specials rotate regularly so if you want something different that option is available too. This visit they had a mascarpone ravioli with scallops, spinach, sundried tomatoes, and lobster-butter sauce. Outside seating is a winner with umbrellas for the summer and propane burners for winter. This is one of the worst places I've eaten at in Downtown Duluth or anywhere "locally", it taste super basic and brunch spots can make shrimp and grits 100x better, the steak taste like it hasn't been seasoned and the first bite I took was just watered down chimichurri sauce and a steak that taste like a seasonless steak with water injected inside it, seems like butter/salt is not in their dictionary. The service was already terrible when we were told to sit down wherever and then this guy comes out of nowhere and sits us down at a terrible spot, and keeps coming back to asks questions even when we ordered steak he came back to ask what temperature which is very odd because it's normally asked when you order THE steak. Service was fantastic! Me and my family of 5 came in from out of town for my sister's birthday and she couldn't have picked a better spot! We got 5 appetizers and 5 entrees, all came out in a very timely manner for peak dinner time on a Saturday night. I usually don't leave negative reviews but we had a very disappointing night. Unfortunately I guess they were pretty busy and understaffed, and the food was very very subpar. We were missing 2 drink orders before it was mentioned again 15 minutes later. We ordered 2 different appetizers and only one was brought out and it was the Caesar salad, which had a bug in it. By the time we remembered the second appetizer, we had already put our main orders in and our waitress hadn't come back around for us to remind her anyways. I'm sure she was feeling overwhelmed and had a lot of tables, not trying to blame her for all of this. My sprite that I ordered was basically carbonated water, it was missing the syrup that's supposed to flavor it. I ordered the lemon butter chicken and the sauce was deep orange? My sister and I have been here once before came to celebrate her new promotion 4 years ago and we returned to celebrate her birthday with some friends who visited from out of town. Food: - If I see shrimp & grits on a brunch menu, I'm ordering it, and this didn't disappoint! This restaurant is located in a square with other businesses in historic Duluth. The bar looked very inviting so I decided to sit there for my meal. The bartender was a young woman and she was friendly and professional. I ordered the Ginger Lady to drink and the Paella to eat. The cocktail was tasty and the Paella looked good upon arrival. However, I was disappointed in the taste of the Paella. The dish lacked seasoning and even though my fish was cooked perfectly I wish it had flavor. Outside of the food, the service was excellent and I had the prettiest bartender who was very attentive, even though it was shift change and she was the only server on at the time. The ambiance is intimate and modern with natural lighting with an open kitchen concept. We stopped here to grab lunch for the girlfriend's birthday. It was actually a good time because there was only one other couple in the establishment. So the attention to us was over the top. You know we sat at our usual spot "The Bar," because we like interacting with the bar tenders... it make the experience so much better. Now on to the food... for appetizers we went with the Bang Bang Shrimp and Goat Cheese Croquette. For our main dishes we went with the Stock Yard Chicken Sandwich and Shrimp Tacos. We went out to celebrate a friend's birthday (party of four). The food was excellent, and service was fine overall--until one incident that left bitter taste in my mouth. We ordered a bottle of wine with four glasses, while one friend ordered an Old Fashioned. When Eric (or Erik) brought the wine, he presented the bottle only to our two friends--not to my husband or me. When my husband questioned this, Eric said he assumed we weren't going to drink. That explanation doesn't hold up--we had clearly requested four glasses. This was not just a small oversight. It was a presumptive and dismissive act that singled us out. The only difference between us and our friends was that my husband and I are not American. We both speak fluent English, but even if we didn't, making service decisions based on appearance or assumptions is inappropriate and discriminatory. I called the restaurant at 9:40 p.m. and spoke with the manager, who was professional and attentive to my concerns. I appreciate that, but this behavior from a server in one of the most diverse counties in the state is unacceptable. I have requested a formal, in-person apology from the server and will provide an update after tomorrow. Experiences like this remind us that bias--whether conscious or not--still exists, and hoping businesses take responsibility to ensure every guest is treated equally. **************** We were there last Sunday (8/10) around 2:30 pm to avoid any peak hours , and Erik took the time to sincerely acknowledge how the situation made us feel. We came here for a Sunday brunch. I would suggest making reservations. We didn't and even though we came right at opening, there were no more inside seating. Luckily the weather was cooperating (not too cold for Feburary with overcast). They also turned on the patio propane heaters. We enjoyed our eggs benedict and short rib hash. Came here to try out their burgers as we were on the hunt for a great burger in Duluth. They did not disappoint. The 007 smash burger was big, flavorful, and juicy. Their fries could use some help, they remind me of five guys fries (overdone and underdone at the same time). Their sauces are GREAT! You can tell they make them all in house. The fish tacos were crispy, pico was refreshing and not overpowering, the jalepeno cream takes it up a notch. Crème brûlée is a must here if you like a more bitter burnt crispy sugar top, it contrasts perfectly with the soft creamy sweet custard underneath. I came here for brunch, and for that I would highly, HIGHLY recommend that you do that unless you don't mind sitting outside because that were the only tables that were open on a Sunday. I came here with the wife and friends. What did we eat here? I ordered the short rib hash. It comes with an egg on top of short rib on a bed of hash. The food was great, and well reasonable price considering going out to eat nowadays it's going to be pricey no matter what. The short rib had a ton of flavor and was perfect for the potatoes to sop up all of that juice. The egg was, well it was a fried egg. Overall, Local On North is good. I could definitely seeing myself come back here for brunch, but I would most definitely be making a reservation for my next visit. read more

I will never go to this restaurant again. It was dirty. My friend had to brush off her seat at the table before sitting down. Our table was next to the wall and there was old food smudged on the wall. The rest room was dirty also. As for the food, it was mediocre. And the server was not particularly gracious or friendly. We used to walk past here during the summer and it was packed! However with the colder weather coming I think it has mellowed down. Average food over all but nice service and comfy atmosphere. Smaller than what we expected. Tacos were cold, and the trout was a bit bland in the ceviche (interesting version with peas and mussels on the side) but the highlight was the fried goat cheese appetizer. I recommend giving more than 2 pieces of bread, and warming up the cold marinara sauce... but overall it was very good. They had a limited selection of beers, but I sampled both IPAs and they were fine, but I pivoted to a blood orange margarita, which was really good. The service was okay but they seemed a bit understaffed as the heavy handed manager was helping delivering orders to the table. They had a few items that were out of stock for beverages and entries so that was a bit disappointing. I ordered the shrimp tacos which were luck warm and not so tasty. I wasn't able to eat the bean soup that came with my entree because when I asked the ingredients I was told that it had a pork base and I'm a pescatarian. It was a little odd for me to order a seafood dish and get a side with pork in it. At that point I was offered to upgrade to fries for an extra $2. The food was exceptional I would rate it 4.8/5.00 couple of items were sold out even though we got there before the dinner rush, aside from that the Bang bang shrimp was nice and freshly made with tender shrimp. Entrées where well presented and both of the fish dishes we tried were tasty and fresh, only taking .2 points off for the skin not being crispy on both plates. Service was great. Cynthia took great care of us, she was on point going through daily specials, and suggesting appetizers to start off with.
