GWB has been and continues to be my "go to" spot in downtown Duluth. After the 25 or so times I have been here, I have yet to exhaust their menu, cocktail offering, or beer list. I just believe this is a wildly incredible feat!! Parking is pretty simple, and it is always an inviting vibe as you walk through the door. It has a neighborhood feel, but it is also a pretty big space, so it never feels over crowded. I crave their fries and fried chicken, but every dish I have enjoyed over the years has been top notch. They also seem to have the best employees, and the service is top notch on every visit. Love this place! Just go here and be happy. read more

Cool spot in what I believe is downtown Duluth? I arrived to quaint looking, retro vibe buildings and I immediately noticed the Big Green Eggs, BGEs. One is running. It's always a good sign of things if you see a BGE running. The bar tender guessed they were cooking fish of some sort for their dip. The beer here is pretty good and they're near at European style beer as I was told. I was happy to see they had 2 beers on cask. Initially we had two bartenders and the service was pretty good. In a group of 7, we have a 4* overall. Lots of different things were ordered. The bucket of chicken got rave reviews. Worth noting - while they don't have an allergy menu, they do have a gluten free fryer and did a great job of catering to the gluten allergy in our party. Just a heads up --fountain drinks do NOT have unlimited refills. This caught us by surprise when we got the bill. This isn't usual and we weren't given any kind of heads up. Stopped in for a quick lunch. I've been before, but this time the food left a deeper impression. The menu leans French in all the right ways--Georgia beef tartare with smoked trout roe, cured egg yolk, and green onion. I didn't order it, only because I've got plans to make my own at home later this week. Still, it stood out. What I did have were the crispy chicken livers with boiled peanut mayo. I don't say this lightly: best chicken livers I've had in my life. Light, tender, no grit. Whoever their poultry purveyor is, they're doing God's work. The Brussels and kale Caesar came next--Tuscan kale from Tucker Farms, just northwest of Atlanta. White anchovies (real ones, not paste), shaved Brussels, sunflower seeds, Parm. Balanced and smart. Anchovies were just there enough to matter without being loud about it. Finished with a bologna sandwich. Simple. Reminded me of watching The Price Is Right with my grandmother after school. Came here for lunch. We were seated right away. We got the 10 piece wings, cheeseburger and spicy crispy Caesar wrap. The wings were big and definitely flavorful. I also really enjoyed the ranch that came with it. The spicy caesar was good but not very spicy. It was definitely filled tho. The fries were really good! Been here several times. The food and service are worth it. We've had a variety of appetizers from the pickle plate to chicken tenders. The braised beef & cheddar sandwich is a winner. The fries have lots of optional sides sauces that are out of this world. The chili oil or the gochujang are winners. They have some non spicy options like dill pickle rance as well. Last visit they had a guest chef item on the menu from George Yu at Noona. Grilled Quail over rice noodles with fresh herbs and a Tamarind sauce. Not heavy like a sandwich and fries but satisfying and really good. The covered patio has overhead heaters which makes it good on chilly fall or winter days. Came by with some friends for an evening of drinks and chitchat a couple weeks ago. I'd heard the Georgia micro-brewery scene has been buzzing and was curious to try some more local offerings in person. This is a perfect place to do a beer flight $11 by choosing four options from their menu of about two dozen beers on tap. Wine and other cocktails are available too. Between a friend and I, we tried the following: - HALDA - Munich-Style Dunkel 12oz 4.8% - DARK EMBERS - Smoked Black Lager 12oz 4.7% - COMFORT IN THE DARK - Cold Black IPA 12oz 6.6% - DEPARTING FOR THE STARS - Czech-Style Dark Lager 12oz 4.7% - BURY ME IN THE SKY - Czech Amber Lager 12oz 4.4% - FACE FOR RADIO - American Pale Ale 12oz 5% - OPHELIA - Berliner Weisse 160z 4.5% - KEEP FORGETTING WHY I CAME English-Style Barleywine 10oz 10.8% The first 4 were all darker lagers so to my untrained palette tasted quite similar, deeper coffee/cocoa bitter notes. The Czech amber lager was mildly sweet and malty. The American pale ale was hoppy, mildly citrusy and bubbly. The Berlin weisse was exactly as described--tart, dry and fruity like a sour should be, though honestly the yeasty tartness isn't my favorite (kinda reminds me of acid reflux :( ), I kinda missed the part about it being a sour in the description. The English-style barleywine was an interesting one, this is my first time having something like this and the profile was unexpected. It tasted almost like a fruity caramel flavor. Sorry not exactly selling it, though it was really lovely and I'd go back to try this again. They happened to be out of the Holographic Heart, Penelope, and Never Sleep when we were there. Still quite a few options to choose from though! When we arrived around 8pm the place was maybe 60% full, may clearing out to about 20-25% by the time 10:00pm rolled around on a Saturday night. The inside is very nice, there's a large rectangular bar in the center with booths along the outside walls and tables in between. Wood-tone walls are inset with bookshelves, a few flatscreen tvs, and framed art. Floor to ceiling paned glass windows line one side of the building. The outdoor walls are decorated with colorful murals lending an air of vibrancy to the bar seating and barrel-top high tables set up outside. The waitress for our table was friendly and helped us take a couple group photos. Thoroughly enjoyed my evening here and would love to come back. read more

This place is a vibe. It's pretty spacious with an immaculate bar right in the middle of the restaurant. Right as you walk in you feel an energy that's welcoming and ready to give you a good time. The appetizers, which I forgot to take photos of, were incredible. The wings with spicy gochujang sauce were my personal favorite. They were the right amount of crispy and saucy. For my entree I ordered the spicy chicken wrap. The chicken was great but it was not as spicy as I had hoped. Also, the amount of time between appetizer and entree was ridiculously long. Not sure if they were backed up but it didn't seem all too busy. The long wait time between courses is what keeps this as a 4 and not a 5. Next time I'm in Duluth, I'll probably be back for the wings and see what beers they have on tap. read more

Came here with a large group of 13 people with no reservation and the service was so friendly and got us a table quickly. The vibe was a brewery decked out in Christmas spirit and twas very festive. Our waitress, dressed in a cute elf costume, was super friendly and catered perfectly to our group of 13. We ordered a round of their barley wine (10% abv; strong!) and it was deliciously sweet. The chicken liver was my favorite, it was fried nice and crispy with the peanut mayo sauce as a great compliment. The fried chicken was good, but a bit on the dry side. A nice large space with a beautiful bar in the middle. It was a gorgeous night so there were no outside tables available so we sat inside. Our booth was large and comfortable for 6 of us. The staff were very friendly and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the beers and made good recommendations. For appetizers we had the fries and boiled peanuts. Both were delicious. Randomly came here for after dinner drinks and the atmosphere of the outdoor seating in this cold weather so immaculate. They have heaters all across the top of the ceiling so it was so lovely to enjoy these cocktails with some boiled peanuts outside and people watch. Extremely Uppity Mediocre Brewery who boasts "Brick Stores little sister"-I guess it's a Belgian Bar in downtown Atlanta. This place is a train wreck. Pink- haired fairies who won't talk to you unless you've been there many times before? Wait, we have been there dozens of times with the same reaction! Perhaps it's because I'm from Peru and don't look American? We try and show respect to everyone we meet. But, Snobbery can ruin even a good thing. Younger Asian hostess always glares at me and my wife like we are aliens or are going to steal something. Food-wise we would order the burger which is pretty delicious and deserves the one star. The beer has some clever nomenclature but is nothing we crave. 'Delirium Tremons' decent. Steak/Filet tips have some left over steak (3-4 pieces) and not worth $20. Wings aren't bad with Korean sauce. They offer dipping sauces with the fries which is a cool idea. Frequently walked in to dirty tables when we've had larger groups with us. Definitely put our elbows in grease on the marble bar. The biggest complaint is the attitudes of staff. Probably why they are getting one star here. The 'Mister Friendly' Manager can never make up for a staff that either doesn't want to be there or despises its patrons. We couldn't decide. The only conclusion was we would avoid this place in Duluth. It's Sad because we have business interest nearby. It's the kind of realization when you look at each other and scratch your head like, "Why are we spending money here?". read more

With floor to ceiling windows, that encompass every wall. The decor is modern and refined, but also feels relaxed and casual. The drinks and dishes here were all beautifully presented. I got the wings with gochujang sauce. And a GWB burger. The gochujang sauce tasted different from what I'm used to, didn't really like the taste with the wings. The burger had two patties, so it's a big plate for me. The fries are hand cut so that's nice. We sat at the bar, and I think the person helping us was new since we had asked a bunch of questions lol. Best cheeseburger I've ever had! The cheeseburger was asked to be cooked medium rare and it was done as asked for. The patty juicy with good amount of sauce and pickle, and the bun toasted just to hold everything together so Nicely. We also tried to 3 day brine fried wings which were good, batter was well seasoned and the chicken livers were not to fault too. I would come back here for the cheeseburger! What a treat! Just bought a car. We thought we would stop by and get a bite to eat to celebrate and very eclectic menu, but mostly a brewpub and we wanted brew food I mean pub food. I was the DD so I got some chicken livers as an appetizer that we shared and for me I got the chicken salad sandwich with fries which was spectacular and my son got the chicken wings which were very meaty, habanero was actually quite hot, which we love and the service was great. Located downtown Duluth parking was a little difficult to find but that's normal for this area. Lots of places to choose from but we really liked it. The beer was fantastic I hear... Wow. First time here; came here after my daughter's performance of "The Ballad of Jane Doe." It was in walking distance of Red Clay. Ordered drinks: Death by Cherries (yummy, had two), Matcha Libra (foam was great and drink was smooth), and Not that kind of party (tasty but spicy). Had cheese board and beef toast. Very great and delicious. Ordered another beef toast as a main. The kids chicken tenders were good. Fish and chips was well cooked and tartar sauce variation made it satisfying. Some friend and I met at Good Word Brewing for dinner. GWB is a super cute brewery. I loved the decor. There's a variety of seating options; we were in a high top booth. Televisions are a nice touch. The service was impeccable; everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. I only wish my food selection was just as good. I was craving a burger, so I ordered the GWB burger and fries. My fries were lukewarm in temperature, and the burger was just okay. I've had better from fast food restaurants. Maybe it was just an off evening for the kitchen. Good Word has been one of my favorites establishments for years. They make some of the best beer in Georgia, and have a genuinely really solid food menu as well. If you're a fan of classic styles and well made lagers this is definitely your place. I don't think I've ever had something on the menu that I didn't really like. Their pork belly is incredible. Be aware that the food tends to takes a fairly long time to come out, so I'm not able to make it here for a weekday lunch as often as I'd like. But it's a great place to grab a quick beer or two, or come for dinner if you aren't in a hurry. read more

Fries and sauces -- mild Buffalo and honey mustard -- were average and good. Lots of great options for beer flights. Outdoor seating was nice. Servers were nice. The filet wasn't a great cut and wasn't worth the price. It was also so excessively salted that we couldn't get through it. What I'm SUPER upset about -- and the reason this isn't a 3.5-4 star review -- is that we ordered three desserts to go and ALL THREE were badly burned. Of course, they hid it with pour over sauces, so we didn't see it until we were home. They weren't cheap desserts, and it's all going in the trash. Shady and disrespectful--who serves burned food?!
