Well there were some positives and some negatives. Let's do the pluses first: + The service was exceptional. The attention to detail was amazing for my large group. + There was plenty of space. + The vibe and the decor was good. But now the negatives... Why do we typically go out to eat at a restaurant? THE FOOD But what happens when the food isn't what you would expect? Unfortunately, I ordered the sea bass. It was served on a bed of grits that were not as smooth as I would like; there was some bok chok that was not as seasoned or tenderly cooked as well. The fish was not consistently cooked all over, for example in some places it was flakey and in other places it was undercooked. It had chimchurri sauce. It was just too much happening on this plate that simply just did not work. I was very disappointed. One high point was that the drinks were good. I would say proceed with caution and try something else on the menu. Maybe it was just me!
Been coming to Local On North for years. It's small but cozy on the inside with a good number of bar seats. You can reserve on OpenTable as well. Service is always attentive, but not pesty. Burgers on the menu are always a great casual lunch or dinner. The 007 burger is my favorite. The specials rotate regularly so if you want something different that option is available too. This visit they had a mascarpone ravioli with scallops, spinach, sundried tomatoes, and lobster-butter sauce. Outside seating is a winner with umbrellas for the summer and propane burners for winter. This place has a lot of variety for whatever mood you are in.
Another great meal with spectacular service. I really enjoyed the pork chops and espresso martini! They have been very consistent in quality of food and service. I'm very pleased and totally recommend!
This is a cute spot in downtown Duluth. It's great for a date night or hanging with friends. I got the Mahi Mahi and I thought it was good. Mashed potatoes were great. The waitress was nice and really attentive. I would definitely come back! My favorite was the goat cheese ball. Definitely get that as a starter!
A cozy, modern‑American spot with a lively bar scene and friendly service--a great vibe for casual dinners or a date night. What We Tried: Steak Frites - NY strip with truffle fries and chimichurri: consistently praised by patrons for perfect cooking and flavor. Pork Chop - bone‑in with chipotle peach bourbon glaze, served alongside crispy Brussels & mashed potatoes: rich, saucy, balanced. Spring Rolls - chicken & jicama slaw in sweet‑chili: fresh, crisp, a satisfying starter. Onion Soup "Made Right" - an update of the classic with caramelized onion soup with Gruyère and crostini: well-executed and comforting. Think cream-based onion soup. Wings (lemon‑pepper dry rub) - crispy and flavorful, though slightly oversalted, giving them a salt-forward edge. Local on North delivers a strong 5‑star experience: thoughtful choices, well-prepared dishes, and inviting atmosphere. My only small gripe--wings that leaned a bit too salty--was forgivable!
From start to finish the meals and service was top notch five star. My sister and I have been here once before came to celebrate her new promotion 4 years ago and we returned to celebrate her birthday with some friends who visited from out of town. I can't even begin to describe the flavors of the food without drooling . This restaurant is beyond 5 star in food and the food seevive and vibes are up there . Our sever attentive and gave us good service service. Local on North is with out a doubt a great spot where you leave feeling happy and satisfied and it was worth every penny . Between the yummy goat cheese balls , wings and the bang band shrimp as appetizers and our mains which we all thoroughly enjoyed And If you're wondering about the drinks They did not Disappoint. Thanks for maintaining great service for an overall wonderful experience. Note definitely make a reservation. Even if you arrive early there are so many great breweries/ bars / restaurants to hop into for a quick drink while you wait .
Another great meal at this local joint. We always enjoy our food and service here. Fun cocktails and yummy starters.
Went here as a walk-in for Sunday brunch with no wait time when other local spots were packed and had 40-minute wait times! Food: - If I see shrimp & grits on a brunch menu, I'm ordering it, and this didn't disappoint! Grilled shrimp, andouille sausage, smoked Gouda grits, scallions, roasted corn (DELICIOUS touch!), and lobster sauce. Super flavorful! - I ordered the side of 2 French toast slices ($10) as opposed to the French toast entree ($18, served with bacon and eggs) since the shrimp & grits was already so filling. Have to have a little sweet treat!
This restaurant is located in a square with other businesses in historic Duluth. The bar looked very inviting so I decided to sit there for my meal. The bartender was a young woman and she was friendly and professional. I ordered the Ginger Lady to drink and the Paella to eat. The cocktail was tasty and the Paella looked good upon arrival. However, I was disappointed in the taste of the Paella. The dish lacked seasoning and even though my fish was cooked perfectly I wish it had flavor. Overall, the menu looks interesting enough and the bartender was nice so, I would be open to giving them another try.
I usually don't leave negative reviews but we had a very disappointing night. Unfortunately I guess they were pretty busy and understaffed, and the food was very very subpar. We were missing 2 drink orders before it was mentioned again 15 minutes later. We ordered 2 different appetizers and only one was brought out and it was the Caesar salad, which had a bug in it. By the time we remembered the second appetizer, we had already put our main orders in and our waitress hadn't come back around for us to remind her anyways. I'm sure she was feeling overwhelmed and had a lot of tables, not trying to blame her for all of this. My sprite that I ordered was basically carbonated water, it was missing the syrup that's supposed to flavor it. I ordered the lemon butter chicken and the sauce was deep orange? It was very salty, the potatoes and broccoli tasted like a frozen meal. Honestly everything tasted like a frozen meal from the grocery. I tried a few other people's meals, the ravioli being one. In my opinion, as someone who loves good food, everything tasted low quality. The ceasar salad dressing tasted like mayo. It's a small crowded place, my chair kept bumping into the man behind me. I'm sorry to say it was a very bad experience and we would not recommend.
**** Review 146 **** Stopped in for dinner with some work colleagues. The place is small, but we were seated right away. Service was slow, but the waitress was nice. The food was delicious, and a whole new take on the Paella. The Paella came with a giant piece of red snapper, lots of shrimp, mussels, and andouille sausage. The service could be a little better, but the food is delicious enough to at least try once. The 4/5 stars is for how good was, but 2/5 stars for service.
I REALLY wanted to love this place... in fact I had high expectations, but unfortunately they let me down. :( my entire meal lacked flavor. Imagine biting into tacos that look this decadent and only being able to taste the grouper, which tasted fresh and flaky, but no spices or seasonings. Or imagine ordering bang bang shrimp and getting unseasoned battered shrimp with sweet chili sauce on top and a side of mustard. Everything was a bit underwhelming down to the unseasoned fries. I am a foody and if you check out the other reviews I have posted you'll see that I'm an honest critic and I give credit where it is due, but I just could not get with this order. Outside of the food, the service was excellent and I had the prettiest bartender who was very attentive, even though it was shift change and she was the only server on at the time. The ambiance is intimate and modern with natural lighting with an open kitchen concept. I want to say I'll come back and try another menu item, but I really want them to add more spices to their collection. Not even necessarily salt, but just more flavor in general. I just don't want to walk away feeling like I wasted my time and money.
We stopped here to grab lunch for the girlfriend's birthday. It was actually a good time because there was only one other couple in the establishment. So the attention to us was over the top. You know we sat at our usual spot "The Bar," because we like interacting with the bar tenders... it make the experience so much better. Now on to the food... for appetizers we went with the Bang Bang Shrimp and Goat Cheese Croquette. For our main dishes we went with the Stock Yard Chicken Sandwich and Shrimp Tacos. The bang bang shrimp were okay and the chicken sandwich was flavorful but GOOD LAWD that dere Goat Cheese Croquette and Shrimp Tacos... man HUSH YO MOUTH! They were absolutely amazing. Compliments to the chef because my greedy behind almost ordered a second helping. It's certainly a nice spot and we will be back. The staff was amazing and they have outdoor seating so we are thinking about going back in the fall when this GAAGeogia heat has gone on about its business. You all should certainly stop by and check them out and when you do... tell'em Drew sent ya! Tall be easy now! Drew

Local on north was a Pleasant Experience overall. The food was exceptional I would rate it 4.8/5.00 couple of items were sold out even though we got there before the dinner rush, aside from that the Bang bang shrimp was nice and freshly made with tender shrimp. Entrées where well presented and both of the fish dishes we tried were tasty and fresh, only taking .2 points off for the skin not being crispy on both plates. Service was great. Cynthia took great care of us, she was on point going through daily specials, and suggesting appetizers to start off with. Ambience was quite fair for a small restaurant felt very communal and intimate. Overall a nice eatery with an OK $$ price... place has great potential for good food and outdoors eating during warmer months. read more
Came here for dinner on a Friday night. We had reservations and I highly recommend making one for busy nights as lines started forming when we sat down around 6:45pm. FOOD: Made Right Onion Soup ($5) - We got the small size, but they also have a larger size for $8. This basically tasted like a more-refined French onion soup. I believe the deeper taste comes from the onion cooked in beef stock. I recommend this dish, it was really warming and a great starter. Shrimp Penne Diavolo ($22) - I'm a sucker for spicy food so was a little disappointed when this wasn't spicy at all for me. However I do have a high spice tolerance so it was a little expected. I just asked for more chili flakes. You can't really taste the lobster butter since the tomato cream is overpowering but it was still really flavorful. Chicken Française ($23) - This was pretty amazing. Chicken is still juicy and tender and the garlic mashed potatoes really shine. The balance of the flavors on the dish were spot on. SERVICE: The server was attentive and very nice. Explained the best menu items when we asked for recommendations. Only thing I would say is that the dishes got cold really fast. Hopefully it's better now that it's warmer outside but they had the AC on in February? So it was cold inside and outside which made the dishes get cold in about 10-15 min. read more
Local on north was a great spot for dinner in downtown duluth! We had a party of 7 and were seated at the high table at the front of the store. Our waitress was very friendly, but in general it seemed like service was pretty slow throughout the restaurant. there wasn't anything on the drink menu that I was super interested in, but I had a sip of their tequila lemonade drink (tasted like a spiked lemonade) and the blueberry gin drink (perfect if you're a fan of tart drinks)! For my entree I had the shrimp tacos and I thought they were delicious! I loved the sauce and the slaw on top, and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. I didn't really care for the bean side, but I was perfectly happy with the three tacos. There are tons of great restaurant options in downtown Duluth, and I definitely recommend Local. read more
Cute restaurant in downtown Duluth right by the parking lot. We made a reservation for 6 on a Thursday night. They also have a small outdoor seating, but unfortunately not opened on this cold and rainy night. We were greeted right away and sat in the middle of the restaurant. We ordered some drinks and the marvelous blueberry is a fantastic gin drink. The used to have a blood orange old fashion that's great, but it's now a pomegranate old fashion. They have some specials written on the chalkboard on the wall. A few of us got the shrimp risotto and hubs for the pork chop. The food was fantastic. The risotto was creamy and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The pork chop was juicy and the peach sauce really comes through. The Brussels was great as well as the potatoes. We ate everything. I'm really surprised at how wonderful everything is. The service was great as well! I can't wait to come back to try the other items on the menu! Delicious. read more
Food review: For bar food, it's better than you would expect. They flare it up in the kitchen a bit with some special recipes on some classics. I got the fried grouper tacos which were really good. The grouper was dusted in corn meal and deep fried to lock in the flavor. The beans that came with my tacos I didn't care for too much. Now the cons: our service was really bad. I made a reservation for a party of 8 and our table was ready when we showed up, but that's about all the positives I can list about the service. The rest was just bad and I won't go into detail. Only 2 servers to serve both the inside and outside patrons on a Saturday during the art festival in downtown Duluth. Very poor scheduling by management I would assume. Our lunch took 3 hours. read more

In Georgia for a few days. Found this restaurant on Yelp and it's amazing!! We ordered appetizers and 4 meals. All were amazing!! read more
Great brunch place in downtown Duluth, beautiful day so we sat outside, the waffles were amazing, the short rib hash was beyond delicious, the drinks too, staff super friendly, I will definitely come back, it's a bit of a hike from my place but a nice bike ride away, parking can get crowded even though the parking lot is right next to it, it's a bit insufficient for all the businesses in downtown Duluth but not a huge hassle, fortunately riding motorcycles you can always find a spot for them somewhere :) I highly recommend this place for brunch!! read more

The three stars reflects the quality / price combination of the food. The ambiance, service, and booze selection are all more in line with 5 stars, but since food is the reason we go to a restaurant, this place is just mediocre overall. My wife and I were excited to try this cute spot in downtown Duluth. We walked in on a Sunday and were greeted quickly and decided to grab a seat at the bar. The bartender was friendly, conversational, and attentive throughout. We ordered 2 items: the breakfast sandwich and the chicken and waffles. We were excited given the feel of the restaurant, and when our food came, it looked great! However, it left us (me more than my wife) wanting... I'll start with my wife's meal because she enjoyed it. It was an egg sandwich with bacon, tomato jam, and goat cheese. Sounds amazing, right? I'll give it to them that they provide a substantial glob of fried goat cheese on the sandwich, and I love goat cheese, but the goat cheese completely overpowered the sandwich and overall tasted hastily prepared. Having bacon on the sandwich was an afterthought; maybe peppering or candying the bacon would help the dish? Again, my wife enjoyed the sandwich, so to each their own. My meal, the chicken and waffles, tasted a bit stale, literally, as in not fresh. The breading on the chicken reminded me of if I were to leave chicken tenders out overnight and then get back to them in the morning. The waffle also did not taste fresh. It's possible that the food was made much earlier in the day and then was served up; I'm just not sure how else it would taste the way it did. If I had gone into my favorite neighborhood bar and had this meal and paid $9 for the sandwich and $10 for the waffle, I would have had no gripes, but again this is not that kind of place...the sandwich was $16 and the chicken and waffles was $18. They do have bottomless bloodies, which is nice, but if we come back, it won't be for the food... read more
@lon_duluth features a unique menu with a wide variety for anyone to enjoy. We started our meal with two incredible appetizers, the Goat Cheese Croquette and the PEI Mussels. ((Hey Vanderpump fans I bet this is even better than the Sur Goat Cheese Balls)) Alongside our appetizers, I had the Hey Gorgeous cocktail and Zach got an Old Fashioned. Both were fantastic!! Then for our meal, we got the Mushroom Swiss Smashburger and the Steak Frites. We finished the night off with a Creme Brûlée and Berry Superstitious. Everything was so delicious and the service was fantastic! I absolutely loved all the natural lighting they had and the garage doors to the patio really created a vibe. I can't wait to go back read more

Very cute spot and great location in downtown Duluth. Perfect place to have a stroll after eating f, parking is no issue here either. Went for a friend's birthday, one of her favorite spots, and I found it to be a little small, but cute with some sitting outside. The menu had interesting items and we got was not too shabby. Some dishes tasted pretty standard, nothing out of this world but the goat cheese appetizer was real nice. Wish there was more of it! Staff is nice and willing to give recommendations but unfortunately, they tended to be very absent, even though the place didn't seem to busy. Only real downside read more
What a great lunch we had today at Local on North. Julie was our server and she was delightful...bubbly personality and full of suggestions! We tried some of her favorites and she was spot on with them! For drinks I had a Berry Superstitious and my MIL had a Paper Plane. (Ok, who am I kidding...we had two of each!). The Berry Superstitious was fruity and sweet and I probably could have had a third, but then driving home might have been an issue! I had a sip of the Paper Plane..it was strong! If you like bourbon, then this is the drink for you. We had the bruschetta for an appetizer. Wow...it was perfect. I loved the balsamic glaze on it! For main course, I had the Chicken Francaise. Again I say Wow! Julie said it was her favorite and I agree. It was served on top of perfect mashed potatoes and broccoli. I ate every bite of it!! My MIL had the Lamb Shank and she loved hers too. For dessert, I had overheard Julie tell the table next to us that the bread pudding was her favorite so I tried that. So glad I did! It was served with a healthy scoop of vanilla ice cream. I tried to eat it all, but by then I was stuffed. The restaurant was still decorated for Valentine's Day and it was adorable. There was even a cute hearts bouquet in the bathroom...such a nice touch. If you plan on going during lunch or dinner rush time, I would definitely recommend getting reservations as it was pretty crowded when we arrived, but by the time we left around 2:30, we were the only ones there. They also have a great bar if that's your scene. The restaurant itself is fairly small, but it's bright and airy during the day as they have the roll up garage windows. They also have nice patio seating which is lovely in the warmer months. read more

So came in on a whim, and was not upset. I came right before happy hour and it was pretty empty. I thought it was weird that the first question that was asked was were their reservations. It's empty and it's before happy hour so there are no reservations but you have ample seating available. Then the next statement was you can sit but we have reservations at 6:00. Why does that matter? It was 4:30, why would there be an issue with an hour and a half before your reservations at a totally empty restaurant? I felt like that could have just been a thing to where you could say sit anywhere you like and left it at that. That was peculiar and it seemed really unnecessary to tell me about reservations happening later on like there was an issue getting seated. But that was the only weird thing. I ordered the chicken wings and the 007 burger. The wings were pretty good. They came with some foliage and dressing. The burger was pretty good as well, it was actually pretty big. And it was very filling as well. read more
Truly one of the best burgers I've had. The butter from the sautéed mushrooms made it taste like an upscale Culver's butter burger! Onion soup was far from traditional but Amazing. Also, this kitchen kicked butt getting food out and our orders for a 14 top flew out even as the table arrived in 2 waves. As we got up to leave there was a cockroach on the wall (shown below) being from Michigan I'm unsure if cockroaches are a normal thing to see in a restaurant for the area but I was a little disappointed that when I let the waitress know she asked "are you afraid of them?" I retorted, restaurants usually are. read more

Stopped for lunch while visiting from Dallas. We decided we would get a variety of appetizers. We started with wings, moved in to the bruschetta, and then finished with splitting a hamburger. All of it was absolutely delicious. The seasoning was prefect! We were absolutely stuffed by the time we were done. The staff was attentive and very friendly. They have a full bar and Happy Hour specials. Space is small but lots of seating The kitchen was alittle bit backed up due to a large party that arrived a few moments before we did. But did a great job with expediting out wings out so we had something to start off with. Cozy place located right in the corner. Definitely will be back on another trip. read more

Located in Parson's Alley in Dwntwn Duluth next to Dreamland BBQ. Free parking right next to the building. Patio dining, bar area, and inside dining with tables, and one high top for a large group. Small capacity so definitely recommend making a reservation if you're limited on time. Our server Hailey was a sweetheart and I appreciated her checking in on us periodically and updating us on our meal status, it definitely took longer than expected. She even provided my friend with a complimentary dessert for her birthday. Although there are several locations, this was my first time dining at Local North and I enjoyed everything I ordered; the bang bang shrimp were so flavorful and the lemon aioli gave it a unique taste $12, summer breeze salad with crab cake was beautiful, so many yummy toppings in the salad and the crab cake was the star and seasoned to perfection at $25. I cleaned my plate! Definitely returning again. read more

Stopped in the Local on North with a friend for Sunday brunch around 11. We had a reservation so we were seated immediately. Lots of free parking conveniently located. Service was great. Our waitress was quick, pleasant, and gave great recommendations. We ordered a mimosa for the table which was a nice add. For brunch I had the rib hash with a side of waffles. The waffles were fantastic and the rib hash was so flavorful and just delicious. Overall, a great local spot that I highly recommend! read more

Good not great. I've had brunch here and that was much better than their lunch menu. The menu is pretty standard in terms of options, nothing unique or different. I got the Steak Frites and my husband ordered the steak tacos. The steak was cooked well and fries were okay but there was nothing memorable. The steak tacos didn't really have that much meat in them. Prices are too expensive for this average of food. Staff and service was good! If you are looking for a safe option where food will be decent, this is a good place. read more

Semsational place!! I would always walk right past not even knowing how delicious this place is. We were on our way to nacho daddy and they a were closed on Valentine's Day. So we stopped in to park it at the bar. Extremly welvoming. Super clean great atmosphere & food to die for. The lamb chops were outstanding !! Everything we had was really really tasty. They even play a great mix of music 80s to current. Thank you so much for a great dining experience! We will be back !! read more

Had such an amazing time here today for Brunch. We started with some mimosas, and later into our entrees. I decided on the Braised short rib hash, and it was insanely good. The short ribs were soft, delicious and left me wanting to run the order back again, bust had to resist haha. Wife got the Cappicola Eggs Benedict, and was really good as well. We will try to go back again soon and try the dinner menu. Cant lie, mind blown! read more

Went in for lunch around 12, ordered bruschetta for appetizer and two of the 007 burgers. We received the bruschetta at 12:30, and burgers at 1. Bruschetta was delicious I would order this again. Burgers.. took an hour. I understand how busy it was but how is it that people who ordered after us got their burgers first? Only few minutes before the burger came out, our server told us it's coming out soon. We were honestly ready to leave at this point but decided to wait few more minutes since she said it's almost ready. We honestly thought they mag have moved our order ticket to the back. We got our burgers and noticed how little fries they gave us. Is this the norm here? Or was it just us? Although it wasn't a lot of fries, it had flaky salt on it and it tasted like it was dipped in the oil twice, with a lot of oil soaked in. Server was friendly but it took a minute to get our server's attention to ask for our check and to receive it. It would have been nice for her to take our card, run it, return it to us instead of grabbing our check, and getting other customers drinks. Perhaps if the other gentleman who was serving food even glanced at us, things would have gone much smoothly. One last thing I would like to add is that when they clean tables, make sure you cover your food because when she cleaned the table next to us, she sprayed in our direction to the point my husband's arm was sprayed. Order it for takeout and enjoy the nice weather outside. I wouldn't dine in here again unless I'm just trying to kill time. read more

Oh my goodness. This little restaurant was so cute. My friends and I enjoyed this restaurant so much especially since it was to celebrate me graduating from college! The seating in my opinion was just a tad bit tight, but it was doable. I started off with a drink, of course. It was the Pomegranate Old Fashioned, and it was definitely old fashioned. The pomegranate flavor mixed in with the whiskey was good, and the right amount of whisky was added. I only needed one of these. Haha! I had the pork chop entree, and it was so delicious. Brussel sprouts are a favorite of mine, and the crispy was just right. I thought the patatas bravas (potatoes) wouldn't go well with the whole dish, but it was pretty great. I loved the flavors of the chipotle peach bourbon glaze on the pork chop. Whew! It was so yummy! Honestly, everything was such a good mix, it was so delicious, and I would get it again! My friends had the pasta and the shrimp tacos, and they raved about how good their entrees were too! Last but not least, the service was very nice!!! Our server, Sydney, was also a delightful waitress! She was so nice and sweet. She gave suggestions to the menu, and our waters were filled at all times. I will definitely be coming back! I'm sad I didn't get to try any of their appetizers, but I will next time. I want to try their lunch and brunch menus as well. read more
