Um, no. Four stars? I don't understand how this is possible. We went for dinner last night. I had the greek salad and the pulled pork sandwich. The salad was large and tasty, although nothing special. The pulled pork was mediocre at best. The pork had been shredded, but not marinated. The meat was not juicy or flavorful, and it appeared to have been heated and then had BBQ sauce poured on it. Seriously? I can make that %*&# at home. My date had the tri-tip. It was pretty good - flavorful and a little chewy, as tri-tip tends to be. You can get much, much better tri-tip at the South Pas farmer's market. The bread sticks that came with it...guys, really? These are Olive Garden-level bread sticks. I do not mean that as a compliment. His caesar salad was fine, nothing special. This is not a meal worth $31. First time here, and we were a little surprised by the order at the counter and find your own seat. We recovered, placed our order, and went to look for a seat, but were surprised again by how loud it was and the number of kids running amuck. This was starting to feel like a bad idea . . . but then the food arrived, and it was wonderful! We quickly tuned out the loud background and tuned into our delicious meal-- grilled lemon garlic salmon, chicken, salad, mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, and bread sticks. The salmon was so tasty, and I cannot remember vegetables ever being this flavorful. The portions were generous and the price reasonable. Only thing I did not care for was the breadsticks--too cheesy/greasy for my liking. Wish there was a location closer to my neighborhood because they also have takeout. I'd definitely be a regular for that. Since a lot of places were closed on Labor Day, we ended up moving our family dinner to Stonefire Grill. When we arrived, we were surprised that there wasn't an insanely long line but we soon realized that it was because they were out of ribs, pizzas, and bone-in chicken! Wait, that's half the menu! Anyway, the five of us shared a 2lb portion of tri-tip, a medium south-of-the-border salad, a large baked pasta, and small mashed potatoes. We had enough left over for 2 more adults. The food was pretty good for a chain but of course, the pasta was so overcooked. The tri-tip was moist and super-tasty. I would go again but I want to try the ribs next time. read more

I have been to Stonefire now about 5 times. Each time my meal is super delicious. So far... the steak sandwich (I had them leave off the gorgonzola butter because I thought it would be overpowering with the cheese) 4 out of 5 stars pepperoni pizza ( greasy but if you're eating pizza that's a given) 5 out of 5 tri-tip (no sauce and still had flavor) 5 out of 5 brownies (hard as rocks and lacked flavor) 0 out of 5 cobb salad (petite size lasted me 2 1/2 meals) 5 out 5 Due to the large portion sizes, the reheating for consumption as leftovers is fantastic. The food still tastes great on day 2 or 3. I think the parking was becoming an issue so they have 4 spots in front for take-out orders. MMMMMMmmmm!! My first visit here was for my BFF's wedding rehearsal dinner, and I've remembered their tasty food ever since. From their pastas, to salads, to amazing BBQ, I can't imagine leaving Stonefire Grill disappointed. I came here recently for a lunch BFF date, and was amazed by their $7.99 deal for tri-tip, chicken, salad, and bread stick deal. SO much food, for such a great price. Best of all, it was all absolutely delicious! Of course I didn't finish everything on my plate, 'cause it was a lot of food, but I certainly ate more than $7.99 worth. Service is efficient. When you walk in, you take a look at their menu and figure out what you'd like to order. Then, you move forward to their cash register and order your food. If you order water/soda, you'll get your cup then and there to head over to the soda fountain. If you order a beer/alcohol, it'll come out to your table. Find a table, seat yourselves, sit tight, and wait for your grub! There is an outdoor patio area as well as plenty of seating inside. This a great place for couples, small groups, as well as large groups. Quite frankly, a great place for everyone! I'll come back if I'm in the area, for sure. Highly recommended! My family goes here at least once a week. Love the HUGE family-style portions for the salads. Try the bbq chopped salad with tri-tip and chicken -- it's a meal in itself. We used them to cater my mother-in-law's 86th bday dinner for 16 people. Super cheap and good. Everyone was raving over the tri-tip, the chicken and the salads. I heard good things about Stonefire Grill, but I was disappointed with my experience here. The serve yourself set up is a little chaotic. Granted, I dined here on a busy night, but it seemed a bit disorganized. The food was fine. A good value. Big portions. My friend and I ordered the Mesquite BBQ pizza with tri tip and the BBQ chopped salad with the chicken on the side, because I don't eat meat. So I was very upset when I discovered that the salad had some shredded chicken in it but not enough for me to notice right away. I was a few bites into the salad and was mortified when I realized. Just got back from a fantastic meal with my mother. The one problem was that I can't believe I marked this location off already. With two locations to go, I have to review my favorite restaurant, Stonefire Grill in Pasadena. I guess you can call both my mother and myself Stonefire Grill Followers. Actually, you can call me a Stonefire Addict. My mother didn't know we were coming to this location, but she was ecstatic that we were coming here. If you don't know already or just stumbled upon my review, I am on my quest on visiting all the Stonefire Grill locations. With Pasadena, now marked off, its time to review what makes this location unique. Most of the Stonefire locations, I have visited during the day. At night, you may have difficulty finding Stonefire, but if you know where Trader Joe's is located, its right next door. When you get off the 210 Freeway, just get off Rosemead North Exit. and head about 1 mile north. There is plenty of parking in the back. At first, parking looks tight, but you'll be at ease when you drive in. With Trader Joe's next door to Stonefire Grill, its a double combination knock out. Buy Fresh, then really Eat Fresh. As my mother and I were stepping onto the Stonefire Grill property, I saw the ADA Truncated Bump Pads. It was very cool to see. Not sure if it was because Stonefire was located in the City of Pasadena or Stonefire wants attract all demographics. Either way, it was unusual to see before walking in. Besides the Truncated Bump Pads, the next noticeable portion of this Stonefire Grill was the outside patio. My word, IT IS BEAUTIFUL! With the fire pit, this is the IDEAL Stonefire ambiance for future locations. When we walked in, there was a long line, but there was a Stonefire Employee getting the line flowing to the three cash registers. The night customers seem to be the bigger revenue maker for Stonefire versus during the day. This place was packed! However, there were lots of tables, booths, and space to have an enjoyable day. My cashier was Jackie and she took my order faster than I could say it. Well, then, that would be telepathy. Of course, my mother and I could never go wrong with a medium South of the Border Salad with Tri-Tip, medium mashed potatoes, and.....a half-basket of Stonefire Grill's famous breadsticks. Come On! The breadsticks alone make Stonefire a Cash Cow. Sorry, I lost my receipt from there to home to give any prices. However, its beyond reasonable. My mom found us a booth and I brought the radio transmitter with me to the table. I still got to see how it actually works. I know how it works, but it intrigues me of how the employees see where the customers are located. As always, you can grab your plates/utensils or request one of the employee get it for you. I can say that the staff here lives up to Stonefire mission. You have the supervisors taking photos for families, the bus boys cleaning up tables for the next group, and servers delivering food without a hitch. For some reason, I kept hearing glasses break. Not sure what that was all about. I hope its nothing serious. The food took about 10 minutes to get to our table and that's pretty quick especially for a full house. Either my vision is getting blurred or Stonefire is putting more food than ever. I will be ordering the same three items for the next two Stonefire Grill locations. The reason is I need to taste consistency. So far, the only deviation from the previous locations is that I keep eating more and more. Thus having less of anything to bring home. I was hungry and the South of the Border went from a full bowl to 1/4 left. Even my mother ate more than usual. Whatever you order, the quality level of the food is very high. With Pasadena marked off my list, I actually have two locations (Irvine & Thousand Oaks) left, but have unofficially visited Valencia, but have not done a review. Stonefire Grill. Just ate here Sunday night. My first time at a StoneFire Grill. My friend Sam and I were meeting my good friend Charlie and his wife for dinner. This place feels warm and comfortable. There is something soothing about how relaxed everything feels. You order you food before you sit down and you can get your own drinks, plates, silverware etc. Somehow this restaurant manages to find a balance between casual and formal dinning that eludes so many other places. We ordered our food as a Family meal. We ended up with a whole tri tip which they were willing to prepare in two separate ways, half BBQ and half with a garlic buttery flavor. Also a big bowl of Salad, A big bowl of mashed potatoes, a bowl of mac n cheese, and 12 breadsticks. Try as we did to finish the food; we still had enough left-overs for two other people. ALL of this food and our drinks came out to less than $52!!!!!!!! The food was great too. Born and raised in CA, I have been eating tri tip for my whole life. This was not the greatest I have ever had but it was damn good. The breadsticks were also surprisingly good. I will be going back to this place again. I can't wait to try some of their other dishes. I've had their catering, ate in the restaurant, and yesterday was my second stab at take out. 3.5 stars for the food: I think the tri tip could have tasted a little less chewy this time, to mashed potatoes tasted like it was the end of the batch...but other wise, I'm not complaining. I would eat there again BUT... When we got back to the house, we were missing our mashed potatoes! Good thing we were down the street. I called them and explained and the manager was very apologetic and even offered dessert as a compensation. Okay. That was nice. I sent my husband back to pick up the food. He said he was waiting in line and when it was his turn, the cashier looked past him and asked the woman BEHIND him if she was ready to order. Are you serious!!!! Was he invisible? Was he just standing there for poops and giggles? You're lucky he didn't quite go nuts on you guys. I'm not even going to get into politics or social commentary but all I have to say is that Stonefire, you might want to school your employees on how to check themselves on their preconceived cultural notions, if you catch my drift. If only I could make my tri tip as tender and delicious as Stonefire Grill. The staff is friendly for both dine-in and take out. The facility appears clean and tables are bussed quickly. Refillable fountain drinks are available for dining in customers and there is plenty of parking, but they do share the lot with Trader Joe's and the new LA Fitness, which is causing more traffic in the lot than before. The BBQ tri tip is delicious, and I always get the BBQ Tri Tip Chopped salad. The meat is cooked perfectly and when ordering take out, the dressing and crunchy components are packed separate so they don't get soggy. I haven't had a bad experience here yet. We absolutely love this place!! You walk in, look at the menu and place your order. You grab your plates, forks, knives, napkins and drinks then find a seat! Everything is good, from the breadsticks, salads, the trip tip, ribs, the lemon garlic salmon is to die for, and the pesto pasta is delish! There are other items I would love to try but for now we stick to these items which we know we enjoy! This is a consolidated review of at least three takeout trips. We always order the same thing. My mother really wanted to get tri tip and talked me into Stonefire Grill because she needed someone to help her finish the tri-tip. I'm not generally a fan of tri-tip, so my original answer was "no". But then I felt bad, and I texted her back "yes, I'll help you finish the tri-tip" - after all, she was paying and I'm open-minded, so hey, what's another try at tri-tip going to do to me, right? So we got Takeout - it was a compromise because I refused to go and have to deal with parking. Traditional Greek Salad with beef - I thought this was really tasty. I could just eat this and it would be fine with me. Garlic Sticks - OMG. YUM! I really like the "chew" on the 'sticks. Trust me, they're AMAZING. Tri Tip - this is my mom's favorite. I now know why. It's amazing and affordable. I normally don't order tri-tip, so I don't have much to compare to. The reason I don't usually order tri-tip is that regardless of how rare it is, it still seems too chewy, like the cut of meat didn't have enough marbling to start with. I had NONE of the texture issues that kept me away from tri-tip before. Heh heh - I even ended up stealing the left over tri-tip from my mom's fridge. I bet my mom regretted inviting me. Ha! But I did admit to her that she was correct, she did find a tri-tip that was up to my standards. It took her FOREVER to get me to say yes. That is why this is a consolidated review.... Baby Back Ribs - So I am the one that loves ribs. But I don't eat them too often (anything that tastes that good and feels oily HAS to be bad for you unless consumed in moderation, and by moderation, I mean, only on special occasions). Ribs is something that I just cannot eat at a restaurant. I get messy, I get sticky, I feel like I'm a Neanderthal (which is ok with me, I just want a restaurant full of people seeing that, it's NOT pretty). I need a warm clean wet towel (like how they provide for you on international flights). I sure did enjoy eating them in the comfort of my own home though! I've been here a couple of times and Its as good as it gets. California is not exactly known for their "bbq or rib" foods like places in texas but for me..stone fire grill is decent for our area. In my personal opinion I like Stonefire Grill better then Lucilles. I've had that place only once so my memory of it isn't strong..but if it isn't..means that it wasn't that good. Stonefire Grill offers a huge selection and the family meals are really worth it. The Ribs and Tri Tip are my ultimate favorite. The Caesar salad is really good as well. The bread to me is a bit strong (garlic etc etc) but still very delicious. Whenever I want to satisfy my rib craving and too lazy to drive out to SD for Phils I come here. One of my go to's and very very good. Meat is usually very flavorful and tender and will definitely make your stomach glad you came !!! Another surprise ---- Fresh Salmon ----- ok, so I walk upright on land, don't dig the seafood, but everyone who goes there including my lady and eats the Salmon absolutely LOVES IT...... again, someone wants seafood, someone wants beef and then there are others who want Pizza --- what did I say that...... yep, get yourself a woodfired pizza. Sides ---- ok, I don't care who you are, suck it up, throw down some carbs and eat those breadsticks. Upon stepping into this place, the restaurant already had a small crowd at 6:30pm on a Saturday. As I was waiting for my sisters and their significant other to arrive, it started to get crowded and I was beginning to worry if there's gonna be a table to fit 8 ppl. Good thing an employee came around and asked us how big our group was and off he went to set on up for us. Sweet. Unfortunately, it was an outdoor seating, which we don't really prefer, but whatever. Here's what we ordered: Family Meal - 1/2 chicken & full ribs w/ caesar salad Family Meal - 1/2 tri tip & full ribs w/ garden salad, balsamic vinaigrette 1 lb Salmon - lemon garlic 1 large pizza - 1/2 mesquite bbq chicken and 1/2 the works 4 Grilled Sweet Corn 3 drinks Thoughts: Garden Salad: the dressing wasn't that great. Don't get me wrong, I like balsamic, but not this one. I think if we had got ranch, this would be a better salad. Caesar Salad: The better salad, but I think it still lacked a bit of flavor Chicken: I didn't eat this, but my parents said it wasn't good. The meat was "old" Ribs: I don't think they seasoned the ribs. The only thing I tasted was the char from the grill. They have bbq sauce at the self serve station, but I don't think it helped that much (esp, since I didn't think much of their sauce). My mom also thinks the meat was "old" Tri-tip: Asked for medium rare and it was more on the medium side, but I wanted it to be medium anyway (places I'm unfamiliar with, I ordered one level rarer). Out of the meats, this was the best; however, like the ribs, I don't think there was much seasoning besides the side of bbq. Salmon: This is the only seafood on our order and it was good. Lemony and a hint of garlic. If you want more garlic flavor, I suggest eating the bits of chopped garlic on top. Don't worry, it's not strong as it's mostly cooked out. Pizza: I didn't try the works, so I'm not sure how that was. The bbq chicken was a bit salty for me. Overall, I prefer CPK's version more. Corn: for $2.14 each, I don't think I'll do it again. It was sweet, but after eating it, I don't feel it was worth it. If it was like $1.50, then maybe. Total plus tax minus tip was around $135. Service was good. Decent lot size for parking. In the end, I'm still looking for a good BBQ in LA as this one did not suffice. read more

Update: I rarely write updates, but Stonefire Grill provides consistently stellar service, a friendly and clean environment, and delicious food EVERY single time! The majority of the staff here are ridiculously friendly and courteous to the customers, accommodating when you require minor changes to your order, and very thorough at reviewing your order with you at the end. Props to the hiring and training teams. As for the food, the salads taste amazing with fresh ingredients, the protein is usually perfectly tender and is well-seasoned, the bread sticks are amazing, and the desserts are worth the calories. I am extremely, extremely, extremely, EXTREMELY upset. This is my first review on yelp and for good reason. zero stars. I ordered my food online since the last time I attempted to try the food here, there was a huge line. The online order said it was to be ready by 5:30 p.m. I arrived and had to wait in a chaotic line which said "online pickup' but it was very clear, it was a free for all. In fact, by the time I received my order, I noticed the people who had placed their order received their food at the same time! What was the point of an advanced order?! I was told my food was not ready, and had to wait for over half an hour for my food! By the time I received my order, it was tired, hungry, the parking was ridiculous, and I got the hell out of there - all the while they quickly went through my items and assured me everything was there. The cherry on top? I just got home and one of my items was missing!! but do I want to go through that chaos and crowd again? We just ate here for the first time tonight, and this place will definitely be in our regular rotation. The place was big, service was friendly, atmosphere casual, and the food was good. Not great, but good. We weren't sure what to do when we walked in, as there was a line, but a server approached us and asked if we needed help and directed us to come to the register when we were ready to order. From there we were able to choose to sit either inside or out on the heated patio. It was a little chilly, so we sat inside. I had the tri-tip meal with the ceasar salad and I got a small bowl of tortilla soup. My girlfriend got the Tri-tip and ribs meal with mashed potatoes. We barely sat at the table (well, we did spend a nice chunk of time wandering around to choose one.) and here comes the waiter with my soup and salad. It was funny because I was just saying that they would never find us since we chose a small booth tucked off in a corner. The soup was decent but it's not a soup I'd order again (I really like the soup at CPK and this tasted like someone trying to figure out the recipe). The tri -tip was cooked perfectly, but I had the butter garlic flavor and preferred her barbecued ones best, and I'm not a fan of gorgonzola which was on top. The mashed potatoes were ON POINT! I don't eat pork, but she said the ribs were succulent and tender, though the sauce is on the sweet side. All in all, it was a great experience. Love this place! Today I got to try the oven roasted cauliflower, the Tri-tip, the Stonefire pizza, a small Caesar salad and a half order of their famous breadsticks. My favorite part was the oven roasted cauliflower. So delicious. I honestly just picked it originally because it sounded funny. I'm so glad I did. I really like that when you come in you order upfront. Makes it a lot easier. Only downside is when it gets busy there is a line out the door. But you don't have to wait long for your food and the servers are very polite and helpful as well. Another plus is the fountain drink selection. I love having more choices than the average coke or root beer. The place is very clean and not too loud. It has an slight echo but nothing to crazy. All in all this place is wonderful. read more

Another of my weekly lunch haunts. The lunch specials are very good values. I will go on record as saying that the 1/2 tri-tip and 1/2 chicken lunch is the best quality, protein-focused lunch for $8 in the entire city. It comes with a side-salad and breadsticks which add to the value. I typically get the Greek salad no onions, order the beef medium rare, and get the garlic and butter options on the meats. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE BBQ sauce, but just prefer to put it on myself. It is a fantastic meal! Warning #1: the BBQ sauce is like crack and will hook you. You have been warned. Ordered for curbside pick up over the phone and was assisted within minutes of calling. Although they ran out of tri tip that came along with the $30 Stimulus package (comes with a couple garlic breadsticks, one large pizza, salad of your choice, & chicken/ tri tip), I ordered the garlic lemon chicken instead and was quite surprised how delicious it was. I really like this place, the food is great. I'm a frequent patron during lunchtime and also, had them cater to our office a few times... always a big hit. The tri tip is my favorite but all from the "individual meals from the grill" section is great (not a big ribs fan, but let me tell ya, tender, juicy, just falls off the bone). The garlic breadsticks are THE BEST and oh, must not forget the cheesecake with blueberry topping. The one thing I hope they would change is the order first then get your own table set-up. When going back to your hometown to eat out with family and friends I definitely recommend this restaurant. It's spacious, plenty of parking and the food is abundant and flavorful. One thing I found different than what I expected was that the drinks, plates and utensils were self serve, kind of like a buffet but there were waiters that brought out all our food that was made fresh when we ordered. We had some time to catch up with old friends as our food was being cooked. I'm always a little weary of food that comes out in less than 2 minutes so I'm glad they didn't do that. We ordered the family meal which was more than enough for 5 adults. We got roasted chicken, salad, and even pizza. As good as the garlic bread sticks were, we would never finish them with all the other choices we had ordered so at the end of our meal we boxed left overs to bring home to friends. Stonefire Grill saved us when we needed to host many a group gathering. They have something called "The Works". For about $200 dollars we fed a large group of people: Tri-tip, chicken, parmesan bread, salads, sides, pasta, and we added pizzas to the mix. Everyone left very happy, ESPECIALLY our wallet. Minus (but not really a minus) 1) You get your own silverware & plates, but thats so easy! You're gonna get up anyways to refill your drink. 2) No RSVPing. I came here for dinner recently with a friend and she had the 1/4 lemon garlic chicken and garlic butter tri-tip individual combo and I had the BBQ rib and BBQ tri-tip individual combo. Food Quality: 1/4 Lemon Garlic Chicken: The chicken for this is really good. The skin of the chicken breast is very crispy but not overly cooked and the chicken breast surprising is not that dry and worked very well with the seasoning. A- Garlic Butter Tri-tip: We had this medium, it was actually more like well done, it was decent nothing special. C+ BBQ Tri-tip: We had this medium as well. It also came out a well done. I prefer this over the garlic tri-tip, it was more flavorful and the BBQ was not too overbearing. B+ BBQ Ribs: It tastes like any other BBQ ribs, doesn't stand out to be anything amazing, but decent nonetheless. B Atmosphere: I was actually expecting this restaurant to be more of a wait and be seated kind of restaurant like a cheese cake factory, but it almost like that of a buffet restaurant without the buffet. It is alright if you want a very family atmosphere, personally it makes me feel old, but that is just me. I honest don't think this is a bad thing, but I have never felt that at any other restaurants before. B+ Service: Quite slow, maybe its because I went on a Saturday night, we waited around 15 minutes to get our salad and bread sticks after we were seated and possibly another 45 minutes to receive our main course (the meat). The ordering process threw me off a bit when I first came here, almost similar to ordering at a fast food restaurant, but the meal is not "fast food" at all. You order at the counter and pay first, then you'll get a number and you can choose any vacant table/booth available. Self-serve drinks/utensils/condiments. The waiter/waitress brings your meals to you. So far, I've enjoyed all that I've ordered here. I love the Caesar salad-the fresh garlic spices it up for me. Lemon Garlic chicken is moist and tangy (so good that my friend wants to drink the sauce!) It's a favorite for me as well. Tri-tip is tender and delectable. Breadsticks are good as well. Mash potatoes/Mac n cheese sufficed. Parking lot is shared with other businesses but you can usually find a spot. They have curbside pickup here as well which is convenient. I used to have Stonefire back when I worked in the Irvine/Tustin area and it was a favorite lunch spot for the office. I was so thrilled when they opened one up in Rosemead that I felt the need to introduce my LA friends any chance I got. The parking lot is shared but I've never had a problem finding a spot. You might just have to walk a little further. You order at the counter, the cashier will give you a number, and you can seat yourself either inside the dining area or on the outdoor patio. The establishment is very spacious, bright, and clean (very similar to the one in Tustin - I'm assuming they're all about the same). There's an area where you grab your drinks, utensils, sauces, and even to-go boxes when you're done dining. I normally order the chicken and rib combo because it's just really good and at a very decent price. The combos are all around $10-$15 and you get two main items. I love their lemon garlic chicken. It's loaded with chunks of garlic but so well-balanced by the citrus. Their ribs are very meaty and tender. Most of the time, the meat falls right off the bones. I don't necessary like bbq sauce so I hardly have that with my ribs but their sauce is pretty amazing. It's not too tangy or sweet. It's light but still adds a kick to the ribs. I've had their tri tip and it's usually very tender as well if you order it medium rare. However, there have been times when it comes out a little more on the medium side and it's not that great anymore. Along with the meal comes two garlic breadsticks that are just phenomenal. You also get a side (salad, mash potatoes, cauliflower, etc) I normally opt for a salad because it's light and refreshing. The mash potatoes have cheese in it - soooo good. It was very popular with my coworkers. There was an office party once and someone just brought in a large order of the mash potatoes! The cauliflower is actually a salad - I wasn't too thrilled since I was expecting simple steamed cauliflower. I have yet to try the string beans and anything else that's available. Their carrot cake is also amazing. It's very chunky! Stonefire is definitely my go-to for a quick chicken and/or ribs spot. read more
