I'm gonna rate higher than most people seem to have been doing so far, but I can't tell if that's because I'm more generous with my rating, or maybe the restaurant has been open for 1 and 1/2 months and had has a chance to work out all the kinks. The concept is a little like a Sizzler, I guess (without the crappy buffet) - order and pay, then take a number to your table. It seems that you can flag down any person for anything, because they don't work by tables or sections. During my meal, I must have been asked by 5 different people if my food was ok, was there anything that I needed, etc. People here are clearly trying hard and working their tails off. So I grab some utensils, and a self-service drink (yippee for raspberry iced tea!!) and take a seat. My salad and breadsticks came out VERY quickly. I had barely sat down for less than a minute, I think. The caesar salad was pretty good, and I'd rate the breadsticks so-so, but that's ok. At least they give you something. Food must have arrived only 5 minutes after the salad. BBQ chicken and ribs were a solid B. They weren't poorly made, or undercooked. They were competently prepared, but just didn't blow me away. And I'm not holding it against these guys at all. If you want Houstons or Ruth Chris, be prepared to pay that kind of price. But if you adjust your expectations in line with the target and what you pay, I think Stonefire Grill gives you a very fair shake. Perhaps because the restaurant is so new, the runners and busboys were super friendly, and I saw even the managers checking on tables. The menu is pretty wide - salad, wraps, and BBQ type foods like tri-tip, ribs and chicken. The one thing that was conspicuously missing was a burger. What I REALLY wanted to eat was a burger, and I double and triple-checked the menu. Nope. Oh well. I think this restaurant replaced a very old and dying Bakers Square, and that's fine with me. It's a decent meal. read more

don't know why the ratings are so low. i know that once i tried stonefire grill (at another location), i knew that i wouldn't go to woodranch grill, claim jumpers, tony romas, etc again. why would i when the food quality is great but for half the price?? (okay, it's half the price only if you don't eat like an obese pig.) so this is how it works: 1) order at the counter. 2) pay for your food. 3) take a number with you and find a seat -- there is plenty of room 4) get your drink, plates, utensils, plates, napkins they serve the food as it comes out. staff is pleasant and helpful. an individual meal is enough for two with a petite salad we had the tri-tip and ribs combo. instead of the salad, we substituted for a side of garlic mashed potatoes. then ordered a petite serving of the bbq chicken salad. everything is tender and flavorful. if there was one closer to home, i'd go more often. it's such a deal for what get!! =) i leave a $2 tip. you should too.. ;) i want to give it 5 stars but i haven't tried the pasta, pizza, etc.. read more

This is my kind of place. I love fast-casual places like this, where you order at the counter, receive a number, and they bring you your food when it's ready. I'm not fussy, so I don't need someone to get me refills, napkins, or utensils. I'm perfectly fine getting these myself. I came here last night for the first time and loved it. I actually didn't eat in the restaurant though; rather, I ordered the stimulus package deal for takeout. It's available for takeout only, and you have to ask for it specifically. I learned about it after seeing it featured on a news story a while ago, and I called for details. You have your choice of a pound of tri-tip, a whole chicken, or a full rack of ribs and get a salad and 8 breadsticks with it. If you order the tri-tip or chicken, you also get a small 2-topping pizza (6 slices). All three are $22.99. Plus tax, it comes out to a nice even $25. What a fantastic deal! Their breadsticks are so yummy! Lots of butter, garlic, and parmesan cheese. The pizza was good and not greasy at all. The tri-tip was nice and tender. The Greek salad was bountiful and fresh. It came with cilantro dressing on the side, but I think I would've liked something more like an Italian dressing. Service was great. Greeted upon arrival, and very friendly and efficient. They even showed me the order before I left to make sure everything was correct. Don't you hate it when you order takeout and don't realize until you get home that your order was wrong? This place reminds me of my college days in San Diego when I'd eat at Pat & Oscar's. Bottom line: Simple, honest food at great prices and great service. I love it! Definitely a fan. Plus, I see that they take the time to reply to customer reviews here on Yelp. How awesome is that? read more

Absolutely Fabulous!!! I was there 2 nights ago. It was my very first visit and I ordered the $20 family meal special. I called my order in earlier in the day and let then know what time I would arrive. The voice on the other end (Kevin, I bellieve) was very, very friendly and accommodating. When I arrived a few minutes early, they recognized my name and my order. The young man at the Take Out register was also very friendly. I paid with a Citi gift card that I'd earned through one of the bank rewards programs. Problem came when I wanted to put a portion of the $23 on the card...and pay the rest in cash. Poor guy at the register was a little confused on how to do. Eventually had the manager come over and assist him. She wasn't rude, be she certainly was not as personable as the employees that I'd come in contact with there. Anyway, got my payment straightened out and was on my way to feed the children. The breadsticks (and tri tip) smelled simply DEVINE! So much so that I had to stop and sample a bit when I got the food to my car. LOVE AT FIRST BITE!!! OMGosh! The breadsticks vere extremely flavorful and the tri tip melted in my mouth. The meal was certainly large enough to feed a family of four. I fed two adults, one teen and two children and had a tiny bit left over. The pizza that came with the meal was not a standout...but the kids liked it. That was good enough for me. I personally enjoyed the Ceasar dressing that accompanied our Ceasar salad. If you are a garlic lover AND a parmesan lover...you'll have no complaints. For the non-garlic lovers, this dressing was a bit over powering. The rest of us couldn't get enough. We could SWEAR that the dressing was made with FRESH garlic and freshly grated parmesan. I am sooo glad that I did not read the reviews until AFTER my first visit. Had I read the reviews, I may have avoided this place. However, the kids loved it so much, that they are requesting it again for dinner tonight. My response.....? No cooking again...and good food, too? Youbetcha, you little darlings. So, tonight, since I have acquired two additional mouths to feed, I will be picking up TWO of the TakeOut specials. Those doggone bread sticks and that tri tip are calling me!! Come to Mama!!!! read more

We went as a family of five and ordered two sets of ribs, Ceasar salad, and breadsticks. The breadsticks were very good, and had a lot of cheese rub on it. The salad was huge, and it had the right amount of dressing, although it was nothing spectacular. The ribs were good, although they could be meatier and warmer. The only considerably bad experience I have had here was with the shrimp. They were so salty and drowning in lemon that I couldn't even taste the flavor of the actual shrimp. The quinoa they served it with soaked up all of the lemon and became a sour mess. The prices are a bit high, but all around its a decent restaurant with fast service. read more

I've been to Stonefire more than a few times and the food is consistently good. I like their Stonefire's bbq chopped salad, tri-tip and breadsticks. Their salmon and chicken are also really good. Moist and flavorful. Sometimes I think they're a bit heavy handed with salt, but overall quality of the food is good. Booth seats are really squishy. I sat down and I felt dwarfed by the table. Servers are friendly. We encountered a not so friendly cashier today, but haven't had any other bad experiences with staff here. Since it does get busy quickly at this restaurant, it can be difficult to flag someone down for something, but luckily a lot of the stuff you need is self-serve. read more

service was great, I especially loved the care and attention that one the servers, Daniel, showed all throughout our time at the restaurant. Will come again, highly recommend!:) read more

This place is AWFUL. It was not clear that the portions are huge and family style. the quality suffers greatly. I ordered pasta with chicken. The bowl arrived and immediately everyone at the table including my 4 year old wondered "what is that awful smell?!" So yes, the chicken smelled like, well, urine for lack of a better comparison. I actaully tasted it - all I can say is it tasted like it smelled. No one was around to ask for help - this was a recurring problem so we got a lot fo walking in during our meal - so when we finally were able to get a manager over, he said the standard businees script, "sorry to hear about this" generic boring yadda yadda and asked if I'd like it replaced. So i got pasta without chicken. It did finally arrive but no one ever came back to ask how things were or take money off our bill for what we overpaid. So I ordered a brownie. it never showed. more walking. finally got it. When I was told, "that will be $3.00" I told him, no, this brownie is on the house. Ugh. Terrible terrible food, atmosphere, service. Never again. read more

I'm surprised by the negative reviews b/c our experience was excellent. It was our first time trying them out and the food was great. Our delivery was on-time and the portions were generous and well presented. We felt like we were eating quality restaurant food for the price. We had a pasta dish and a chicken dish and both were really great. The salad was AMAZING, and it looked so good, it was a combo of eggs, chicken, a wonderful dressing, and just looked great in the tray. We'd definitely be willing to try them for in-person dining when life normalizes again because we enjoyed the food. read more

I just came in the other day and was approached by Julia! She welcomed us with a smile and explained how the system goes. You order when you walk in and they bring everything out to you! It's kind of different but the food was the best part! Julia recommended the tri tip meal for two which was the perfect amount of food for me and my girlfriend! Excellent prices and great food! read more

The hostess Becca was soooo sweet. She was super friendly and helpful. Businesses need more employees like her. Also I ordered the vegan pizza which was amazing and my boyfriend ordered their roast beef sandwich. We will be back!!! read more

I've been here several times, and I haven't been disappointed. Today I tried the Italian Chopped Salad with chicken breast. I had balsamic vinaigrette instead of dijon, and it was really tasty. The petite portion was plenty for one person, and the chicken was tender. We had a side of breadsticks, too. Yum! read more

Yum yum. My first time here and I am satisfied. I ordered the boneless chicken breast with lemon garlic and tri tip mesquite bbq combo meal. It was a lot of food for me and will be having left tomorrow. The chicken breast is a bit dry, but that's normal since its more lean. read more

This new location for this chain has a vast food selection with something for everyone. Large portions, fast service, good quality and very reasonable prices. Some people may not like their very different style which is more like fast-casual. You go up front where you order and pay for your food and drink, then find a vacant table, and get your own utensils and water, but it suits me fine. No tipping! read more

Nothing fancy, it is fast food, you order like a fast food, get a tracking device and your food arrives to you. It is good for large groups and family, don't expect anything fancy. It taste a lot like sysco prepackage fast food and you get lots of it. Its good if you are in a hurry and just hungry. read more

Came here with my family today. We ordered their family size meal with chicken and tri tip and one a la carte order of a ribs. I see everyone commenting about how good the tri tip is. I think their ribs is much better. Not to mention about their SUPER YUMMY bread stick, especially when they just brought it out from kitchen. Omg. I'm mouthwatering again. read more

The food has always been good when dining in. Unfortunately, the pizza we ordered for take out was a huge disappointment. It seriously appeared as though someone else ordered a veggie and they canceled it so why not throw a couple pounds of chicken on top and call it a chicken pizza with veggies? Sadly I picked up A slice and all the chicken rolled off. I tilted the box sideways and sure enough all of the chicken rolled off. There was no visible cheese to hold it down. In addition, it was cold after a ten minute drive home. I was quoted $24.00 over the phone and charged $20.00 at the counter. That should have been my Red Flag, a discount! No more To-go pizza from Stone Fire Grill. read more

Meats were undercooked and very plain. Liked the pinwheel salad, but that's it.

I am a HUGE fan of Stonefire Grill, from the original one in Santa Clarita to the location in Brea. Have been going for years, so when my bestie and I decided to have dinner on December 12th, at this Pasadena location, in celebration of my 60th birthday, before heading out to see the Christmas lights at Santa Anita, there was absolutely no hesitation. To say that I was disappointed with this location is putting it mildly. There were 5 of us, 3 adults and 2 children. Three of us ordered the ribs (1 combo with BBQ ribs, 1 half rack, and 1 BBQ ribs kids meal). We also ordered a BBQ chicken meal, and a kids mac and cheese meal. When the staff brought out the food, we were missing 2 garlic mash and 1 Mac and cheese (sides), along with the kids mac and cheese--no problem--we said "we'll give them time." After 10 minutes, I FINALLY had to get up, find a server, and ask them to bring out the remaining food items. Everything was okay, everyone was happy, that is, UNTIL I took my second bite of my ribs. They were undercooked, so much so, that there was blood and the texture was much like a medium rare steak. I asked to speak to the Manager. He came over and I showed him my undercooked ribs. He was shocked and told me that he was going to take them back to the kitchen and show them to the chef--as "the kitchen should have never sent out these ribs," his words. I waited and waited and waited..... I NEVER saw the Manager again. There was NO apology, NO reimbursement offered for part of my meal, and certainly, NO offer of replacement ribs--as I had barely began eating. To say that I was fearful (and still am), of having eaten raw (pork) ribs is putting it mildly. Thanks to the lack of attention by the Manager at this location, I will NEVER eat there again. Thankfully, the other kids in our party, who ordered the ribs, had fully cooked ribs. Thanks Pasadena Stonefire Grill, for making my birthday dinner a memorable one, and NOT in a nice way! read more

Waiting 40 minutes for a take-out meal. They said it was the pasta, which is the fastest thing they cook. No excuses. They now say they put the ticket in as if it was already picked up. They compensated the meal, thanks to the manager. read more

The food was amazing!! I always have great food and great service. Thank you Clinton for ur help. We are all so delighted.

hella bomb In my first experience at Stonefire Grill, I was simply amazed and was completely impressed by the food and prices. The staff was very helpful in selecting the food that we were looking for and the restaurant itself was up to my own personal standards. Let me go ahead and get to the juicy parts; literally! A group of friends came here to celebrate a friend's birthday after a church function. They mentioned that we would be dining at Stonefire Grill and the first thing that I did was.... guess? Yup! Yelped it! I checked out the quick tips, the reviews in what was good, and on my way there I already knew in my mind what my mouth was drooling for, but great things happen when you least expect them and this was one of those great things that I did not expect! We stepped in and it was pretty busy; expected because it was a Saturday night. We walked up and and glanced at the menu. It was pretty overwhelming at first because there are a lot of items, sides, and different meals, but the best part was there was a secret item that was not on the menu. The cashier was kind enough to tell us about the Taste of Stonefire which gives you your 2 choices of meat and side. Our choices consisted of the tri-tip with cracked pepper garlic topped with gorgonzola butter, lemon garlic chicken, 2 breadsticks, and garlic mashed potatoes. Let me tell you-- everything was proportioned perfectly and came out nice and juicy! I'm a fan of gorgonzola/bleu cheese flavor and it went so well together with the tri tip! The self-serve style of the restaurant came off a little chaotic, but I was able to manage. My senses are heightened when I'm full of good food :) I enjoyed the family sit down setting and it was a great evening to dine outside. I look forward to our next trip here! read more

This place has great food but when it comes to the way they operate and service it has a lot to be desired. We ordered chips & salsa appetizer and it was the second to the last food item to be brought to us. We kept having to tell the server she forgot food. She thought she had brought us everything but my husband never got his sandwich and she looked at us like we got it and ate it and wanted another until she didn't see that he didn't have a plate! Got the Caesar salad which is really good but they never put enough dressing on it and it took about 5 minutes for them to bring us more. They really need to revamp their ordering process, we had problems the first time and every time we go there. Don't go unless you can handle order mistakes because it is a given that you will have them. read more

Let's tell it like it is.... It's a glorified Sizzler. So am I happy about that? Fuck yes! Or maybe it's what you order. Not sure. I was abundantly pleased with my dinner. NYE we tried this place out. I ordered the Caesar salad & Tri-Tip. The salad was tremendous. And let me tell you why. Caesar salad is suppose to have a bite to the dressing. The grocery stores and most restaurants that attempt it don't get that at all. If you don't have all of the ingredients, please, don't do it. I commend this place for "doing it". The Tri-Tip was exquisite. Perfectly cooked to my specifications and the bleu cheese butter added SO MUCH. I couldn't ask for a better dinner. My little wonder boy ordered the Rigatoni in meat sauce & mozzarella & although he couldn't finish it, we took it home but it was accidentally left in the car so his leftovers were destroyed. He was upSET! The lovely boyfriend has a habit of ordering the chicken clubs at every establishment. He loved it but stared at my tri-tip most of dinner. I can pretty much bet the farm that he will be ordering the tri-tip next time. So the process here is to order at the counter, take a number, get teh drinks, sit & Voila! foodies. Wait time?? Hahaha! None! Experience it. read more

I love this place!! At first glance from the outside, you would think it it some fancy restaurant, necessitating some fancy wardrobe. Once you walk in, you would be confused as there is a line for ordering. The prices balances between value to slightly steep, especially when you don't know what to expect at first. Basically, you order at the counter, seat yourself (unless if it is too busy, then they will have someone who finds tables for you), serve yourself drinks and utensils, and leave with the mess on the table. Fancy fastfood is what I call it! So for food, they have sandwiches, meat entrees, pizzas, and pastas. The meat entrees also come with breadsticks and salads. I recommend the trip tip and the chicken as that was all I have tried. The cartwheel salad is AMAZING, as are the breadsticks. Pizzas are thin but they are not as oily/greasy as many of the other pizza places, and they put plenty of toppings. I have yet to try the sandwiches and the pastas - save that for next time! read more

My wife picked up food from this place the other day, she bought the garlic chicken, which i REALLY love, it tastes so good and it has so much flavor. My family and i have actually gone to eat to this place many times. There is just one "small" problem. Last time i ate the chicken, i started noticing how FREAKING HUGE the pieces of chicken are. I mean, they are HUGE and very juicy. I said to myself, there is something wrong here. Normal chickens are NOT this big! Guess what? I called the restaurant myself and asked if the chicken is hormone and antibiotics free, and i was told that is not. Basically, this is what i consider a normal type of "fast food" chicken with all these chemicals in it. WOW! It is AMAZING what we are being fed now days. It is very very scary! I definitely have to STOP eating out so much. No wonder i have stomach problems myself. 2/12/2014: If the FDA did "banned" hormones in poultry, then how can one explain the HUGE size of the chicken?? That is NOT normal, period. So what type of chemical is the FDA approving now that makes poultry grow fully in 37 days??? It must be a new and more modern chemical that i was not aware of then. read more

This factory food. If you like eating on the floor of a manufacturing plant, you will love Stonefire. This is for the crowd who likes cheap and tasteless, and a lot of it. We had a "rack of ribs for two." Ribs were OK, if you like ribs with no spice or taste. At least they were not dry and chewy. The "signature" sauce was sugary sweet. I had a garden greens salad with blue cheese dressing. It had a ton of dressing and no, repeat no, blue cheese flavor. My wife had the cole slaw which came with peanuts in it (?) and lots and lots of onions. The bread sticks were about an inch thick and soggy with "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter." I ordered a side of garlic mashed potatoes that were a little dry but tasted OK, not too garlicky. They had a fairly large crowd, but we were in and out in under 45 minutes, with a bill of $29. Not a place for someone who enjoys dining out. read more

Mac n Cheese here is AMAZING (as posted by my lovely girlfriend below)...prices can be a little high for what it is, not somewhere id come to on a regular basis, but nice every once in a while what really kinda gets on my nerves about this place, is that you have to get EVERYTHING for yourself...napkins, utensils, drinks, spare plates etc etc....BUT, they arent shy about putting that "TIP" line on your receipt when using your debit card, i think a tip should only be given if full service is received read more

Blah, for a place that half their menu has tri tip, and they run out of it, that's bad managing, there ribs were tough and chicken had little flavour, no draft beer, and no-one ever came to our table to ask if we needed anything. read more

I love stonefire but this was my first time at this location. I ordered for pickup, they said 20 min. I saw my order was ready, but I patiently waited for someone to package it up. I watched my order sit there as 3 servers chatted away, instead of packing up the to go orders; slowly grab napkins and utensils still while chatting away as customers including myself were waiting. read more

I was so disappointed... especially as I was hungry after my nearby workout. We had the BBQ chicken salad along with the chicken and tri tip plate. This was one of the rare occasions I liked a salad better than the main entree. The tri tip was tough and chewy (although I thought the flavor was good), and the chicken needed a nice sear/ grill mark. I'm not sure how to describe it but it was kind of rubbery and missed the mark in texture. I found the same consistency in the salad, although the salad had a nice crunch so I didn't feel it was as obvious. As an FYI I also made the mistake of ordering the cauliflower salad and did not expect it to be raw. Won't be back! read more

I liked this place. The Tri Tip was cooked just right, and the baby back ribs were served just the way I like them. I didn't mind ordering, paying, and waiting for the food to be served to me. I don' t mind getting my own plate, napkins, utensils. I think it might be a little more expensive than a pulled pork bbq joint, but it was a good atmosphere and everyone seemed to be polite and helpful. I will go back again when I get a coupon for it. read more

This place seems like it's trying to be fancier than it really is. The 1997-Pottery-Barn decor makes it look like a sit-down, waiter service restaurant, but it's counter service. You order from a menu, that again, looks like a waiter-service restaurant menu (though definitely of the Applebees, pictures-of-the-food sort), but you wait in line, order at the counter, pay, and get a plastic cup and go to the soda machine. They give you a little buzzer that allows the servers to track where you sit and bring the food to the right table. All in all, I found the vibe of this place just confusing enough to make me not really like it. It's kinda the worst of both worlds, fast food and casual. Plus the name is misleading. It's a meaningless, catchy sounding name. They had an open kitchen (again, sort of like an upscale casual place might) and I didn't see any cooking implement that wasn't 100% stainless steel. Unless they were making their pizzas some place in the back I couldn't see, these are NOT stone-oven pizzas. It was, however, good pizza. Like, the best pizza you've ever had at a restaurant that has pictures of the pizza on the menu type good. Not historic old-town Italian family secret recipe amazing, but definitely better than Domino's. They had an admirable selection of grilled meats, none of which we tried unfortunately. I might have walked away with a different impression if we had. The portions were HUGE, so this is definitely a bang-for-your-buck family-style restaurant, where you can bring a motley crew of kiddos and just kinda have at it without having to put some poor server through their paces. So if you have an unruly gaggle of kids that you need to feed, this is probably a great place to do it, even though there isn't much to keep them occupied like there is at say, Chuck-E-Cheese. Hell even Macaroni Grill has the paper on the table and crayons. This place is like if Chuck-E-Cheese were designed to suit the 40-something parent's taste, instead of a five-year-old's. Which... gives it a kinda weird vibe. In conclusion, the food was good, nothing to write home about, and the ambiance was muddled, which damaged my perception of the place as a whole. But I'm sure there are a TON of suburban families that are looking for a place like this, and it definitely fits that bill. read more

I dislike this place so much. That is all. Do not come here, the way the layout is sucks and the food isn't that great. Stay away!

Horrible service on Sun 6/12/22. pre ordered an hour before we wanted pick up. Got there 5 min. early and young man who checked us in for pick up orders said it would be 5 min. just waiting for 1 more thing to complete order. No problem... we waited 10 min then walked up to counter to check again, a different young man helped us. He came back after checking and we overheard the disbelief in their voices saying they hadn't started our main item. A manager came over.... long dark haired woman to listen to problem. She walked off without addressing us, we were left standing there. She came back in 2 minutes with a main item. I asked where it had come from, since multiple workers admitted it hadn't been started, she nastily replied "the grill, it doesn't take that long!" Well It was a medium well order, we know 2 minutes on grill is not acceptable, so we asked to have it put back on grill. Meanwhile all our other food had been standing cooling off! It was the most rude , unprofessional service and from a lead or manager is really sad! Don't get so complacent, that you usually have tasty food and are busy , that customer service slips! I was so close to cancelling whole order and going someplace that respects their customers! I will remember this interaction for awhile! No thank you! read more

Bottom line: great BBQ at a great price. I come here at least twice a month, and have never been disappointed. Always get the tri tip for 2 special ($20ish for slab of tri tip, some garlic bread, one side, and a salad that easily feeds 3 ppl), and sometimes throw in a full rack of BBQ ribs. Tri-tip: Let's be clear; you're not gonna get the fancy tri tip you expect at Wood Ranch or a related establishment. However, you do get tender, delicious meat at a remarkable price. That's the sweet spot I look for in any establishment. Baby back ribs: the ribs here can definitely compete with any ribs I've had at other places, and are unbeatable for the price (I want to say full rack is under $25 and includes a side or salad). Salads-- go for the BBQ salad! It's an extra $2 or $3 but worth it. You get to have your choice of meat in the salad (tri tip, chicken). Sides -- Mashed potato with garlic. Garlic gives a nice kick. Love this place. Don't ever change! read more

My first tIme!!! I'd never been here before. Having lunch Wii's has my mother in law, she suggested this place. You look at tthe menu on a board when you first walk in. Great selection!!! I'm vegetarian so it's somewhat difficult to find something I can eat. Not a problem here. I ordered the keen green salad. It had all my favorites! Spinach, sun dried tomato, avocado, and artichoke hearts. We sat on the patio. Bit noisy but ok. Almost immediately they brought out my salad. The rest of thee party's food came out about 10 minutes later. They got my daughters order wrong, so we sent it back. I shared my salad. My other daughter got the small mac and cheese. It was big enough for our whole family to have some!!!! By the time they brought out my daughters correct order the rest off us were done eating. The server apologized and offered us 2 free desserts!!!! We got the carrot cake and cheesecake. Both were phenomenal!!! So, overall great food and good service!!! Definitely must eat here!!! read more
