My party of four arrived to Stonecutter's Tavern to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday on June 18, 2022. The atmosphere was wonderful and the views from the windows were spectacular. We were greeted by a smiling, warm and inviting waitress. She made us feel welcomed, and she provided the best service I have ever experienced in any restaurant, consistently, from the time we arrived till we left. The menu items were expensive but we figured that a great chef was preparing them. All four meals were problematic! A steak sandwich was cold and missing sauce; onion rings for three meals were cold and oily; seafood chowder was cold; mac and cheese bites were cold and dry; falafel sandwich had no sauce, a half of a cherry tomato, and a tiny piece of lettuce. My wife and I were mortified, and while our guests were understanding, my daughter's birthday dinner was ruined. A guest pointed out the owners at the corner of the bar living their best life completely oblivious of the sub par quality food being served in their restaurant. Our waitress was wonderful, apologetic and upset for us, and went out of her way to make it right. I'm not sure why the food was horrible, but I do believe the owners should be spending time in the trenches with their team rather than at the bar. We will not be going back. read more

As I walked into Stonecutter's, I was delighted to see that their tables are well spaced and all of the staff wore masks that weren't falling off of their faces or that had to be readjusted. We were greeted right away and sat at the bar, which they require two seats between a group. The waitresses were attentive and friendly. I ordered an old fashioned and my fiancé ordered one of their in-house wines. Both were great. The calamari we shared was also very well prepared. Our overall experience was that of old-time luxury and the Belhurst Castle was beautiful, inside and out. If you're in the area, be sure to stop in and at least look around! read more

We stopped here for lunch while touring local wineries. We all enjoyed our lunches- who knew a simple burger would be SO good?? The service was impeccable and CHRIS was delightful! He was quick to respond to our questions and had a wonderful way about him. I would certainly recommend this restaurant in the Belhurst Castle for a casual meal. read more

First time in the Finger Lakes and we wanted to enjoy every minute especially after a great day of wine tasting. We were VERY disappointed in Stonecutter's. We were told about 15 minute wait for a table which turned into a half hour. If that was the only issue, then no big deal. We were seated but unfortunately the service was slow. (And slow is being generous). They wait staff were pleasant enough. The setup is confusing and distracting. People were randomly walking through the seating area looking for friends and were standing by our table having loud conversations. Basically, it is a bar with a handful of tables scattered around a room. When we were finally served our meal (after having to ask the waitress) we were not thrilled at all. Only one of the four of us came anywhere near close to finishing their meal. Two meals were considered specials. "Patty melts". Additional flavoring that made it inedible. For the quality of the meal, we were overcharged. Spend your money elsewhere! read more

I see this place has mixed reviews, but I am a fan. The outdoor dining area is a great venue to eat a meal and drink a glass of wine. The food is basic sandwich snack type meals, but I didn't come here for white cloth tables. I came for a bite, take in the nice views and drink some wine. Tip: Sit outside and order wine. Incredibly disappointing experience. Pick another spot for lunch. We were really looking forward to this place. It just looked so appealing on their website; the castle seemed so picturesque. That's where the good things I have to say end. It *was* a lovely setting (patio seating), but service was a mess. They didn't seem to be full, but the service was painfully slow. Not like "casual vacation time slow" - like neglectfully what-could-they-possibly-be-doing-back-there slow. Water took over ten minutes. The food order took even longer to come out. It was ok. We shared the smoked Gouda dip (not as good as it sounds), I had a turkey Reuben (pretty good) with the fry medley (mediocre - probably just frozen & fried), my spouse had the Cuban with chips (actually a pile of chip crumbs). Once we got food, we didn't see our server for a long, long time. Refilled waters once. We had to get up from our table and walk inside to find someone to give us our bill. We found like 7 servers all behind the bar looking totally frazzled and confused, accomplishing nothing other than neglecting their tables. In that time, we ran into other patrons having issues with their service, as well. A simple lunch of sandwiches shouldn't take an hour and a half. Skip this place. There are significantly better options for food, service, and setting in and around Geneva/Seneca Lake. read more

The waitress excellent . The food wasn't at all how the menu describes. The food was cold fries mash salad welted . Potato skin loaded was a joke. The food is ordered then cook at the other end of the building ok half of the castle. Then it gets left on a shelf until someone decides to take it to the restaurant . The dishes half a cover over the top of plate making the warmth from cooking being covered now Steams your lettuce bun fries and makes it all soggy and on appetizing . We complained and gave us a gift card to come back which we did almost 7 months later to have the same thing happen. So we give up won't go back to eat there. read more

Dined here 2 different days of our 3 day stay in the area for lunch (Saturday and Monday). Saturday we dined outdoors on their patio facing Seneca Lake. There is a spectacular view across a manicured lawn to the lake from this venue. The day was beautiful, our server was gracious (even took our pics like a pro) and efficient, and the food and wine were excellent food-wise and price-wise. I got the pulled pork sandwich with slaw on top with home-made chips as the side with the suggested pairing of the Riesling. I was very happy with my selection and wine pariring though I later learned during the wine tasings at the winery that I liked the semi-dry better. Price of the sandwich was about $10 -- very decent price for a classy place. Monday we dined indoors for lunch and, again, our server was excellent, as was our food. By this time we were 'wined out' so just had water with our meals. I chose the clam and corn chowder this time in a bread bowl. The meal was hearty and flavorful. Where else can you dine lakeside on a winery in a castle?? WOW! The dining ambiance is incredible. Even though you are at a castle eating lakeside at a winery the dress is casual. My grilled salmon salad was a huge portion with lots of veggies, hard boiled egg, and pita bread. It came with an incredible home made cucumber dressing. My mom got the turkey bacon sandwich served with kettle chips and a fried pickle. I love love love pickles so of course I had to try a fried one--it was okay, not my favorite thing int he world. The sandwich was served on a kaiser roll and was over flowing with turkey, bacon and cheese---this was a MASSIVE meal! It was a great sandwich, although very heavy! You could just roll yourself out of there after eating one. My favorite part of the experience was the wine. The server recommends a wine that with compliment your food. I loved it! Visited today for lunch. Started with what was described as a dry rosé for 11.00. 5oz pour at best and sweet. Menu has plenty of high fat, heavier items and minimal healthy options. Soup of the day was cheeseburger - really? I guess this set the tone. The falafel on naan and greens salad with chicken were fine but nothing we couldn't make (and quickly) at home so nothing set them apart. The menu does not match the lovely view and dining area. I came with a party of 8 on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. We were promptly seated and our orders were taken in a timely manner. The service was good, but the food was very sub-par. My 2 star review is based on what I ordered: the fish tacos. At $13 for 2 tacos, my expectations were high. However, what I received was 3 tater-tot sized fish pieces per taco that were completely over-fried and tasteless (they were supposed to be 'sriracha' flavored). The sauce in them tasted like regular mayo. The chef also forgot the avocado, which was 1/3 of the ingredients in the tacos. The waitress was apologetic and brought me some avocado slices when I asked. Two other people ordered the fish tacos in my group - one barely ate them because they were that bad. Other people's dishes seemed to be alright; if you're here and deciding what to order, I suggest you stick to a sandwich or burger. The fried pickle was good, and we appreciated the complimentary snack mix while we waited and the chocolates at the end. The ambiance wasn't what I expected - our party was seated by the entrance/exit, so we didn't experience 'the view'. I imagine it would be a lot nicer if we sat by the bar or outside (weather permitting). The bill included a mysterious "administrative fee" of about 5%. Neat place just 15 minutes off the interstate. I got the Capicola Panini and it was beyond delicious and perfectly spicy. Sandwiches come with a fried pickle which are pretty yummy though my boyfriend wasn't into eating a hot pickle. More for me! The dining room is lovely and the bar is even better, overlooking the water with plush leather chairs. When we stopped in, there was a guy proposing to his girlfriend outside, so that'll give you an idea of how lovely the grounds are. And when you're done eating, there's a wine shop and tasting room right next door! read more

I was having a hard time deciding how many stars to actually leave here, but what started out a bit rough definitely had a smooth finish. After having a great experience at the winery, my girlfriend & I decided to have lunch to complete the nice afternoon. We got there & they were busy, so we gave our name & told them we would sit at the bar until our table was ready. We were seated after about 15min. Our servers name was Jessie. After looking at the menu we decided on the shrimp&mandarin orange salad and the falafel. Great,drink my glass of wine while we wait. Well the wait time, HOLY CRAP, so long, like we didn't understand what the problem was. Jessie came over to apologize for our wait, asked us if we wanted drinks on the house, we said no, & continued to wait. Soooooo long that we flagged her over & asked her if we should just pay for our drinks & go, she said no its coming, new people in the kitchen, she apologized profusely. Ok we wait. Well, the food was absolutely delicious! Whatever the dressing is on the mandarin salad was so good, and the falafel was spiced to perfection, SO GLAD WE STAYED. At the end, Jessie was so professional, always smiled, kept checking on us & when the bill came, drinks were on the house. Spectacular view of Seneca Lake. Our waiter was exceptional. I had the Blue Cheese Beef with BBQ and carmelized onions. Most dishes are served with their own kettle chips and a fried pickle spear. The beef was tender and delicious. The BBQ and Blue Cheese combination was adventurous and it paid off. I cleaned my plate. Dessert we had the strawberry shortcake which was scrumptious. WHAT A MESS! I've been to some poorly managed and organized restaurants, this one is towards the top of the list. It took 10 minutes to get some one to seat us, they had to go ask the bartender how long it would be to get a table (there was two right in front of us that were empty) because she was confused with the whopping two people that were on the list in front of us. I've been here before, for lunch on a Monday and didn't have any problems, that was nearly a year ago... We've been sitting for 15 minutes now, two tables that have been empty since then still haven't been cleaned, and they now have a list for people to be seated even though there are three empty tables.. All the servers poured drinks for their tables, even though there is just the one bartender - too many people behind the bar is always a bad sign of a poorly run place. Everybody seemed super busy, but not that crowded. Service was polite but slow. Food was below average. The whole place feels like it's a state park - institutional feel - not really professional. there was a kid sitting at the bar. Stonecutters is the best way to enjoy Belhurst Castle because the food is better than Edgars and because you can enjoyvthe beautful outdoor dining setting. the bar overlooks the water and the chairs and bar are table height. ive had the burger there and on another occasion the ham and pear sandwich and they were great. The service was great considering they have a staff shortage now but patience is called for and rewarded by kind servers. overall a pleasant place for lunch and day drinking. read more

Stopped here for lunch during a road trip in the area. The views are excellent with a sprawling garden, trees and water. The restaurant however is mediocre. They have limited outside seating which means most of the non hotel guests sit inside. There was just waitress hosting 7-8 tables (more joined later) and it was slow. We ordered the veggie burger and falafel sandwich. The falafel sandwich was homemade from scratch and was one of the better ones. The veggie burger wS below average. I have been here 3 or 4 times now. Its never really busy yet they seem understaffed. Huge patio yet only a few tables. Why would you have all that land lakeside and only offer a few tables. They don't take reservations. It feels like they want to create demand by being inefficient. Food is good, although staff doesnt always listen to your order and service is a bit slow. read more

The dining alfresco by the lakeside on the grounds of this beautiful castle and winery can't be beat! This is the casual dining spot at Belhurst, but don't be fooled by the "casual" label. The food, service and ambiance were first class. My caprese paninni sandwich was essentially "summer" between two glorious slices of focaccia. It was loaded with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella with pesto. I added the grilled tuna and was delightfully surprised by the seared ahi tuna. The salads were more than generous, there was a chicken and/or steak tip salad. The grilled chicken salad featured slices of apples, pecans and hardboiled eggs. Don't miss the beef and brie sandwich on a fresh roll. Though my only criticism there is there could have been more brie. The sandwiches were served with kettle chips (maybe fresh made?) and a fried pickle. This was no cheapo bar pickle that just happened to be fried. Oh this was the real deal with an herb batter. Yum! The sandwiches were a satisfying amount with a little room for desserts that included a chocolate molten cake with bananas foster and silky smooth peach cheesecake with raspberry sauce. Slight demerits here only because the bananas were a little underripe and they'd run out of fresh peaches to top the cheesecake. I guess given the molten cake was fab and the cheesecake was melt in your mouth, all is forgiven. read more

3.5 stars, really, but I will round up because the atmosphere/lake area deserves 5. Stopped in for lunch on Labor Day weekend (Sunday). The lot was quite packed, and it seems like there were preps for a wedding. Yay, weddings. Anyway, the cozy dining room was full, so we opted to sit outside, though it was a bit chilly. There is a round fire pit, and you can overlook the lawn and the lake shore. The menu is just nouveau and, okay, overpriced pub food, but I liked it. I got pan-fried haddock on a bun. A bit bland (the coating could use more flavor), but at least the fish itself was quite moist and not overcooked. My husband got the open faced, caramelized onion & cheese filet mignon sandwich, and he ate it all super quickly and with pleasure. Most things come with house-made potato chips and a deep fried pickle! Super awesome bonus touch. Good service. Attentive waitress, and the food was served quickly. A staffer asked if we wanted to move inside just minutes after sitting because a table had opened up. That was thoughtful. The bloody mary was not so good. The mix must have been Mrs. T's or something. But - in all - tasty, filling, fairly priced, considering you're in chi-chi Finger Lakes territory, and all in a very gorgeous and historic property. read more

Okay...hopefully this will be my 3rd and final visit to Stonecutter's to eat. I didn't write an update the last time I dined there this past December 2011, but it was NOT a good experience. Here's the update from our most recent visit: Food: 2 Service: 2 Ambiance: 5 After doing some Friday morning / afternoon wine tasting, we decided it was finally time to get something to eat. With Ports Cafe only being open for lunch and wanting to eat somewhere on the NW side of Seneca Lake, we once again fell into the trap of going here. Granted, my wife was insistent on us dining somewhere with a server that would bring her wine, so we decided...okay let's give it another try. We decided to sit outside under one of the 5 or so umbrella'd table so we could look out onto the grounds and actually see Seneca Lake. It is very pretty and that is exactly why the ambiance gets a 5. So, since we were eating a late lunch, that's what we ordered. I had the Capicolla Panini ($9.95 - Imported Capicolla, Shaved Spring Onions, Provolone, Roasted Red Pepper Aioli and Shaved Romaine on Grilled Rustic Ciabatta Bread. Served with Kettle Chips and a Deep Fried Pickle.) My wife had the Chicken Breast P.R.T. ($10.95 - Lightly Breaded Boneless Breast of Chicken Pan Fried, Served on a Kaiser Twist Roll and Complimented with Pancetta, Romaine, Tomato and Mayonnaise. Served with Kettle Chips and a Deep Fried Pickle.) My sandwich was quite strange. The meat almost looked like it had been dyed red. I can't say I've ever in my life seen Capicolla quite that color. It was cut very thick (another turn off) but was spicy the way it should have been. The "kettle chips" literally looked like they had been poured out of bag from Wegman's. By no means are they fresh or made there. I considered getting fries or onion rings for an upgrade, but I hearkened back to my memories of getting the onion rings in December. Then they definitely tasted flash frozen and then fried. So, certainly not fresh and I wasn't fooling with that again. I had a bite of my wife's Chicken Breast P.R.T. and it was also poorly made. The fried chicken breast was dwarfed by the giant bun, so you ended up eating more bread then chicken. Again...bad. The service was weird too. What should have tipped me off from the beginning was how the middle-aged server with red hair had a side pony tail. Something just gave me a spooky vibe about her. When we finally were ready to get the hell out of there, I was still finishing up my meal. My wife asked for the check. The server then attempted to refill my water (pouring a 1/4 of the pour in my lap) and while I was looking to make sure she hit the napkin instead of my clothes, I look up and she's walking away with my plate before I'm finished. Dude...WTF!? Look...word to the wise. Feel free to have a drink here...but stay far, far away from the food. I'd love to see Gordon Ramsey come rip this place a new A-hole. read more

Ate here checking out a wedding venue. I had the Australian rib sandwich and it was amazing. Made on a pretzel roll with great read me in a very good mustard with horseradish sauce. The kettle chips that came with the meal were amazing. To be honest I would consider not getting a sandwich and just eating kettle chips and the fried pickle that came with it was far above average compared most I've had! It has a great view on the lake with nice outdoor seating. Prices are pretty normal for what you get. The view and venue make it well worth your time! read more

I'll keep it concise. From the time we entered the bar until we left , NEVER GETTING OUR FOOD SERVED, it was two hours! Our orders of a strawberry salad for my wife and a seafood chowder bread bowl for me were taken 1 1/4 hours before we left in frustration. The waitress told us three times "nothing yet but it's coming". As we were leaving , she did apologize and gave us our just-arrived meals in take out bags with no charge. That was the only positive part of the experience - the server handled a bad situation well. We ended up eating the food on a park bench; luckily the weather was not too frigid! The staff seemed overwhelmed. BTW, the ladies room was filthy and in need of a full cleaning. My wife was grossed out by it. We've eaten here many times and had good experiences in the past. So here is your chance to live the high life without breaking the bank. Stonecutters is like finding a room a the Ritz for Holiday Inn prices. This is a restaurant inside of the castle with a great classic bar with seats that make you feel like a captain. Wonderful warm woods and nicely appointed surroundings round out the package inside. But that is not where I want to sit. I head out the door on the right to the outside area and grab a table facing the lake view! This is where you want to head in the afternoon after the sun drops towards the front of the castle giving you some relief from the beating rays. A lot of the folks seem to like the black and blue sandwich and I'll say it tastes just fine as I love Roquefort with beef any day, just the cut of the prime rib is a little fattier than I usually like. Personally I like the pub filet and I upgrade for 3-4 bucks to the onion rings which I find to be exceptional. A domestic beer will set you back ~4 bucks and considering the view is still a bargain. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and live music was playing inside as we were leaving and the place had packed up to 80% capacity so it's best to get there a bit early before the band starts playing, have a cocktail of 3 and enjoy the orange rays of the sun setting to your back as you view the lake. I'd suggest a collared shirt for the gents to keep the scene classy and save room for desert (unlike I did) because the desert tray looks great. read more

I would highly recommend that you find another place to dine. Our group of 10 people visiting the Seneca Lake area were sorely disappointed with Stonecutter's food and service. Groups of more than 4 automatically have a gratuity added in to the bill and the server for our table certainly took advantage of this with extremely poor service. We had a variety of meals among the 10 of us including soup, salad, hamburgers, fish sandwich and lobster rolls. ALL were mediocre at best! The lobster roll was not edible as was the salad with poorly cooked chicken on top. Some of our order was incorrect. One member of our party was served his lunch after all others were finished with their meals. I absolutely would not go again and would not recommend this restaurant to others. The atmosphere was quite nice on the outdoor patio. The cheese board featured a very nice cheddar. But my wife's pulled pork quesadilla was overseasones with lime and salt. Inedible. Surprised a good friend for his birthday. There were 8 people in our group. There were no tables large enough and the servers would not let us put two tables together until I insisted. They moved the tables closer together but still had to have a large gap between the two because (apparently) they had to have room to move between the tables. Not one person went between the tables while we were there. The food was mediocre. Some in the group were very disappointed in the very small size of their sandwiches. ie: a slice or 2 of meat between the bread. I won't be returning here. read more
