This was the last winery we visited on the NW side of Lake Seneca. The Riesling and Pinot noir was outstanding. We couldn't have been more educated with the help of Bob, the host who helped us choosing our selection and his humor made our experience one to remember. From the moment we arrived, this winery completely exceeded our expectations. I made a reservation for our party of 8, and they truly rolled out the red carpet for us. A beautiful table was prepared ahead of time, and the staff even greeted us as we stepped off the bus, making us feel like VIPs from the start. A special shoutout to Glenn, who led our tasting experience. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable about the wines, but he was also absolutely hilarious. He fit right in with our group, joking and laughing with us as if he was part of the party. We spent almost the entire hour and a half laughing while learning about and enjoying some fantastic wines. And we can't forget the chocolate pairing--it was out of this world delicious and complemented the wines perfectly. This was one of the most memorable winery experiences we've ever had. This is a place that deserves 4.5 stars. Our server was absolutely phenomenal. He shared a lot of interesting information during our wine tastings and had a quirky sense of humor. He was extremely attentive as well. The table/outside patio is quaint and very charming. It also feels extremely private since it's tucked back from the road in a woodsy area. The wine was pretty good overall...not great. The chocolate pairing we did at the end of our experience was totally worth it!!! I would leave a 0 if i could. I was told the winery could accomodate tastings for a bachelorette without reservation when I called. When we got to winery, despite MULTIPLE tables open, We were told they could not upon arrival. This was the most unprofessional service I have ever experienced, thankfully the brewery up the road was able to service 10 paying customers, and Billsboro was unable. I am so disappointed to say, but this winery does not deserve local or tourist business. I would recommend skipping. read more

Great winery! The tasting was a good price and the wines were delish. You had the option to choose between a sweeter wine selection or a dry wine selection. Kathy was a fabulous wine server. The place is beautiful, the service is cheerful and on point, but the wines are just OK for my pallet. The reasonings were the star of the show. I think the problem here is with most wineries is their serving their wines young, which they kinda have to, because if they sit on them, it cost them more, but that's where these wines would shine, especially the reds. Just not my cup of tea, but I'm sure for somebody else's pallet it would be fine, especially younger drinkers or people that might like sweeter wines, which is ironic because I was told they specialize in dry. We decided to stop by this winery because it was just a few minutes from the B&B we were staying at. This winery is set back in more of a wooded area, but it is very quiet and serene. We decided to sit outside for a tasting - they have a very nice setup outside, and the inside is also very nice as well. The staff was super friendly and we found out that one of the employees there is good friends with the winemaker at our favorite New Jersey winery. Small world! I was pleased and excited about the chocolate pairing on offer with the tasting flight, but it turns out the chocolates were better than the wines. And the pours were not generous (like that old joke). The flight was presented very cutely, but the tasting room did not feel very unique. For our first time back in years, we were treated to a fantastic experience. Everything hit just right. The wines: On this wine outing, the best we had, rivaling some of the best from Keuka Lake. Their focus was clearly whites, including Riesling, and they weren't afraid to veer away from bone-dry. Instead, it seemed like the sugar levels were appropriately matched to the wine and what it could offer. Usually Rieslings have a tendency to build acidity quickly but I didn't find that here. Instead: complex fruity noses! The tastings: This is the first place I've seen actual innovation in tasting offerings. You can "roll your own" but there is a suggested line of Rieslings to compare, and a wine & chocolate pairing. Chocolates custom-made for their wines, spectacular small-batch chocolates. I'm looking forward to charcuterie on a future visit. The service was friendly, cheerful, knowledgeable, and calm. The interior: It's cozy and rustic. It's the bottom-half of a house built on the side of a hill. Weathered wood and stone. Relaxed and warm. We felt completely at ease. We joined the wine club, we're certainly coming back. A little pricey for the tastings but everything else made it worthwhile, especially with club discounts. read more

A mere 4 minutes from our hotel, we had to check out Billsboro on our recent trip to the Finger Lakes! We made reservations online and pre-paid for our tasting (~$10 / person + tax / tip). The winery is situated atop a large hill so you could easily miss the sign directing you if you weren't in the know. The store front looks similar to a barn, but there is a spacious enough patio to the side where we had our tasting. It overlooked the lake (after getting past the highway), which was a nice touch. It was a little breezy on the day of our tasting, so I do wish there were some heaters, but it was definitely bearable. There was a little chimney outside, so I would imagine that have that going on some colder days. In terms of the wine - Billsboro is known for their dry wines, so all offerings centered around this. We were given a list of all the wines featured in the tasting, and we could select 5 wines to try. Most of the wines were dry whites (2 rieslings, a chardonnay, and a sauvignon blanc), but there were also a few reds, a rose, and a dessert wine. I opted for the sauvignon blanc, riesling, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon - syrah, and the dessert wine (kiwi, kumquat, and pineapple forward). Our waiter brought our selections out to us in pre-portioned mini carafes, which we could then pour into our wine glasses. Our tasting was more DIY than expected - at other wineries, the waiter walked us through the tastings, pointing out the various notes and giving a bit of a backstory for the wines. However, at Billsboro, we were left alone to wine taste, which was fine, but it would have been nice to have an expert guide throughout the tasting. Nonetheless, the wines were quite nice - I don't classify myself as a dry wine lover, but I definitely didn't notice a strong dryness for most of the wines. I particularly appreciated the riesling, which had a hint of sweetness to it but wasn't overpowering and was quite refreshing. The cab sav - syrah was also delightful - the smoky flavor was quite pronounced, which was a unique touch and made it memorable. Lastly, the dessert wine was a nice ending - it was still a dry wine, but much more sweet than the other offerings. Overall, we enjoyed our tasting at Billsboro! The variety was ideal, and I liked that they had a focus on dry wine but allowed us to select which varietals we wanted. I do wish we had a guide to walk us through the tasting, but the tasting notes provided were much appreciated. The outdoor space was COVID friendly and made for a nice tasting atmosphere. Would certainly recommend Billsboro if you are a fan of dry wines, if you know a bit about wine to start you off, and if you are staying in the Geneva area! read more

I'm so glad we made an impromptu stop here! I had this spot bookmarked forever after hearing from friends about their wines. They have a lovely tasting room - very rustic and cozy. This place is tucked away in the woods a bit so it has a nice relaxed, vibe with a great outdoor seating area. I can't wait to enjoy that once summer hits. As for the wines, they have a great dry selection. They get their grapes from a few different farms on the Finger Lakes to make their wines. What's great about that is that they can experiment and offer a range of wines. They're known for their dry wines and we particularly enjoyed the Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc (not available too many places in FLX so try this!). They also had a couple samples of cheese and charcuterie from their featured cheese and charcuterie boards offered in the tasting room. We tried a bite of the cheese with the dessert wine and it was unreal! The flavors balanced each other out. What's better is that they sell the cheese in their fridge section too! Come to find out it's the fabulous Jake's Gouda and so we bought a wedge to go with the dessert wine we picked up. If you buy 3 bottles, they'll comp one tasting. We purchased the Sauvignon Blanc, the Syrah, and the Apres dessert wine + Jake's Gouda wedge. read more

This was a really unique tasting experience. We got to have a seated tasting which was paired with locally made chocolates. Some of the flavor combos were unexpected be at least two of them made really complimentary pairings. The only thing I noticed is that the staff were not quite as attentive on the day we went. One of my favorites! Been coming to the Finger Lakes and the Seneca Lake Wine Trail for 12 years now. Billsboro is one of our favorites and we've watched as they continually grow the business. The wines have always been fantastic but the outdoor patio has been an amazing addition. My friend (a newbie) and I enjoyed a tasting this past week including creations by Chef Brud Holland. Even accommodated the vegetarian at the last minute which doesn't always happen. To say it was fabulous is an understatement. Keith was very attentive, professional, personable, and knowledgeable. We had an outstanding visit to Billsboro on a rare nice day in January. The welcoming tasting room was packed yet the service was exceptional. They have a great variety of wines and specialize in dry wines which is unique for a Finger Lakes winery. Our favorite wine was the Mousseux which was a refreshing sparkling dry Riesling. Who doesn't like bubbles or FLX dry Riesling?! Besides the great wine, we also got to meet Deanna the tasting room manager. She was very knowledgeable and fun!! This is a guaranteed stop for us. Plainly because we are always patiently waiting on any release of new reds. A very cute and intimate tasting room on top of steep hill. This can seem very intimidating since the road up can only fit one vehicle. Practice caution when turning into the drive way. There isn't a good view of what it coming down due to the obstruction from all the trees. Fantastic red wines. Not a tasting room for everybody as they mainly focus on semi-dry to dry wines. Their tastings are about $3 for 6 pours. If you are bringing someone that likes the sweeter wines, I'd suggest they ask for a few pours instead of the full tasting. They are a friendly enough staff to accommodate their clientele. Choices I suggest are the Kashong White, Riesling and their ice wine Apres. I snagged a bottle of the Apres not caring about how sweet it was. This elixir is to be sipped and treasured after a meal...or poured all over warm chocolate cake...or ice cream. This nom-nom vignoles ice wine is very tart and that is just super in my book. read more

This is one of my favorite wineries, EVER. Why you ask? Solid wine list with a range of options (though tending towards the dry end of the spectrum). Amazing staff who know a ton about wine in general and their wine in particular, leading to a great discussion about the nose, qualities and flavors of the wines. Fantastic location- the barn setting is perfect for tasting and the ambiance adds to your enjoyment of the wines. They also have cheeses and meats to try, and there is a chocolate pairing you can do along with their wine tasting. In addition to the regular tasting, they have a number of special and regular events. Pizza on the Patio is a fantastic way to meet new wine lovers around the region, eat amazing pizza, and try some of their fabulous wines with jazz music in the background. Right now, I would highly suggest the Governor's Cup winning Syrah, the Cab Sauvignon/Syrah blend, the Mousseux, Dry Riesling and the Cabernet Franc. Although, honestly, all of their wine is incredible. Try the Leidenfrost series for a fun twist on Riesling. read more
