The staff was simply lovely from checking in in the castle, lodging to the wine tasting to the store for nice souvenirs. Thank you for an excellent experience, my first time in a US castle. The wine was delicious and excellent, and we will be back. It was worth the drive from Washington DC.

UPDATE-After giving negative reviews and days of no response, I was finally contacted via email and informed they were refunding $75.00. That is LESS than 10% of our over $800.00 room charge. I recommend using their formula for gratuities when there. Imagine having a dinner bill of $200.00 and only tipping $20.00, apparently that is all the expect, or at least that is how they value their guests. Not worth the money SO DISAPPOINTED WE WILL NEVER GO BACK AND DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. Service sucked! Mold in food, no porters for luggage, no valet parking. I'm sorry for $400+ a night I expect some services. You get better service and breakfast at a Holiday Inn Express!! Just spent 3 days/2 nights in Bellhurst Castle. My niece got married and between our family and his family we rented the ENTIRE castle. Every family suite, every chamber room, rehearsal dinner, wedding, reception. Obviously it cost a shit ton of money. We stayed in the 'Clay Chamber # 5 or 105' both numbers were on the door. GREAT ATMOSPHERE throughout entire castle. Here is the kicker- breakfast was prepackaged muffins, bagels, donuts and coffee. For $400 a night it was a huge disappointment. Everyone drove to town for breakfast. I grabbed a bagel and started eating it before I had my contacts in and it tasted funny. I was eating Mold!!!!! I spit it out and vomited my guts out. Took it to front desk and asked for a manager to contact me via phone or email- nothing.

This is an older mansion and it is apportioned as such. It was fun and completely fine. It's not been updated and retrofitted to meet unreasonable expectations. The food was good and the service was fine. They have two restaurants operating at once. So slow down and prepare to wait a bit. The view is great and the grounds are kept in good order. We loved the giant tower suite. Sure it's not a high-end and modern accommodation. But the price is reasonable and the experience is unlike anything else I've found Seneca Lake. Enjoy your stay and the free wine spigot. Loved it!

We were disappointed by our recent visit to Belhurst. We stayed one night in the manor house offsite. The good things were the beautiful setting on the lake, pretty house, and tasty cocktail in the lounge. And, for Valentine's Day, we were given a sweet bottle of wine, a small box of truffles, a free wine of beer tasting in the gift shop, and a 20% off coupon for one of the onsite restaurants. Unfortunately, the rest was subpar. The wine tasting was too sweet for my taste. The bed was very uncomfortable. And, we had a very unfortunate experience at the onsite Edgar's Restaurant where we ended up walking out after almost two hours without food (see my review for more details). All in all, we won't return to Belhurst.

Not only was the room and view spectacular, the staff at the front desk and in the restaurants were amazingly helpful, friendly, and cheerful. We loved the wine tastings and the food was delicious. Maya at Stonecutters was a delight to have as our waitress and Alicia made everything from check in to check out superb. If we had issues they were treated as a top priority and we felt very special. The castle is charming and so beautiful! Can't wait to find another occasion to make it down here again!

It's a beautiful place but their service does not reflect how beautiful their castle is. Cheap breakfast, literally just coffee and bagels in bags. The winery was annoying because we had to stand the whole time, it felt kind of rushed. I will say the lady who poured our wine was such a sweetheart. We were satisfied with our room because it's big however it was very old, you can just tell everything hasn't been updated in a Long time. I was a little surprised at the quality of the experience but we made the best of it

Complimentary bread and compound butter, excellent!

We went to Belhurst Castle for a quick wine tasting, dinner at Edgar's, and to buy some wine to bring home. We had a large gift card which ended up causing some issues throughout the evening. The wine tasting was pleasant and the staff was knowledgeable about the wine. Pours were consistent as well. The Viognier was the best that we had, while the "Neptune" and "Red's Red" were both solid, semi-sweet table wines. At dinner, the service was friendly and once again knowledgeable. We had a shrimp cocktail, sauteed forest mushrooms with burgundy and herbs, a prime rib, and a Delmonico steak. There was also complimentary parmesan bread with a few compound butters, which were delicious. The shrimp came out quickly, and it was a generally good dish - the shrimp itself was slightly overcooked, but still very edible and the cocktail sauce was very good, with just enough horseradish kick. Unfortunately, after this things went south. The prime rib and Delmonico steak were both ordered medium rare, but came out medium well for the prime rib, and very well done for the steak. To their credit, the waitress did ask that we cut into our dishes and see if we were satisfied. Since it had been about 45 minutes since we placed our order, we decided to just eat what we we received rather than wait for a new dish. The flavor of the prime rib was quite mild, while the Delmonico still had a very good flavor, appropriate amount of seasoning, and a nice char on it. If it had been cooked even to medium or medium well, I'm sure it would have been an excellent steak, but ultimately it ended up being fairly dry and stringy in texture. Both meats came with creamy mashed potatoes, which were pretty good although they needed a bit of salt, and asparagus which needed a few more minutes of cooking as half of the stalks were nearly raw. The mushroom side was extremely bland, and in terms of texture, was a little overcooked. Logistically, it was a bit of a pain using a gift card. We used a large gift card to pay for the tasting, the dinner and the bottles purchased after dinner. Only one employee at the front desk is authorized to re-issue new gift cards with a reduced balance, so each time we paid for anything, we had to wait 10-15 minutes to get our new gift card back. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but, within a 2.5 hour visit, we spent 45 minutes waiting to receive gift cards back, so that was rough. We hoped to spend more time taking in the sights outside, but after the time wasted, could only spend a few minutes sightseeing before heading out. Kudos to the staff who were friendly, attentive and helpful in each case, but seemed to have their hands tied by a process that could be improved in the future.

    Poor service

Made a reservation in person for 8/31 at 7:30. When we showed up we were told that the reservation was for 9/1 at 7:30. No apology, only that with the other 5 tables being served they could not accommodate us. Absolutely ridiculous. My wife and I honeymooned at the castle 20 years ago, and now we will never go back!!! Sad, very sad! The rating that is listed is not accurate, it should be lower!!!

My husband and I tasted here on the last morning of our trip. Our tasting was complimentary as part of our stay at the hotel. The tasting bar is open 10-7:15, which was nice to have flexibility to fit into our stay. Our favorites were the Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Dry Rose, and Kinfolk cider, though we didn't like anything enough to buy. We did buy a cool growler with their beer label Mabel's empty for decoration. Free pretzels accompanied our tasting and staff was very friendly.

My husband and I have been to Ravines Wine Cellars several times since 'discovering them' during a special farm-to-table dinner and wine pairing at Good Luck a few years back. That night we enjoyed a 5-course meal and each course was paired with a different wine. It was the first time we ever experienced drinking finger lakes wines that we really enjoyed and could see ourselves buying for private consumption! Shortly after that, we made the trip out to the wine cellar in Geneva to do a tasting. On our first trip, we did the wine and cheese tasting - loved everything and went home with a bottle of Meritage. On the second trip, we did the wine and chocolate tasting (which features chocolates from Hedonist) and came home with a bottle of the Vignoles. Fast forward another couple of years and we took advantage of a holiday event which featured food pairing tastings from Brown Hound Bistro at the Ravines location in Hammondsport. We left with several bottles of wine for holiday gifts. Every experience was great, with friendly and knowledgeable people, enjoyable atmospheres and yummy goodness. Most recently, I was lucky to attend a special dinner at the Ravinous Kitchen as part of a company event. There were 12 of us for a 6-course meal on a Sunday evening (usually they are closed at this time). Included was a tour of the winery and wine cellar, with time spent with the owner and the head chef. It was amazing. The chef prepared really, really delicious dishes for each wine: --We started with glasses of their 2009 sparkling Brut Rose which was delicious. Paired with a bacon puff and served with herbed crème fresh, this was a lovely little bite. --Next, while we were in the cellar, we were served a parsnip bisque with caramelized cheese. We ate that while tasting their 'new' 2015 Meritage right out of the barrel. It was cool in the cellar and the bisque and wine was a perfect little warm up. --First of the 'mains' was a large serving of local Lively Run chevre, with a side of kale and some pomegranate drizzle, served with their 2015 dry Riesling. They also gave each of us a fresh baked roll, and mine was gluten free - the most perfect gluten free roll I've ever had - truly crusty and 'French-bread-like'. I could have died happy after eating this course. --Second 'main' was a stuffed squash with some kind of spinach or creamed green inside. This was doused in brown butter and served with a smear of red miso. The dish was served with their 2013 Pinot Noir. Holy deliciousness. Unlike any squash dish I've ever had, this was definitely the table favorite. Super savory and umami, great depth. Super yum. --Final 'main' was braised beef short rib served with shaved brussels sprouts and a mushroom 'cream' made by roasting a medley of mushrooms and pureeing them with cream. This dish was served with au jus and the 2013 Maximilian red. A rich, delicious combination. I have to admit at this point I was over the top stuffed, but even so, when the chef brought out extra servings of the short ribs, I forced myself to have a bit more. The au jus was delicious and the meat was totally fall-apart tender. So good. --For dessert, we were served a butterscotch 'risotto' - basically a rice pudding with white chocolate, apricots and toasted oats. This was served with the Vignoles. Take a bite and a swig and swirl them in your mouth - flavor explosion! I really love the Vignoles. Even those at the table who are not fans of dessert wines/ports/ice wines drank every drop! (Too bad because I was offering to finish whatever anyone wasn't going to drink, but no takers....) Ravines is definitely at the tippy top of my list of favorite wineries and experiences in the finger lakes. And with all the new awesome eateries in Geneva and the focus on making the little college town a foodie destination, I highly recommend you join the Ravinous club, rent an Airbnb and go there to spend a weekend of eating, drinking and merriment!

Despite making our reservation months in advance, our table was not ready when we arrived. Once seated we then waited over 15 minutes before anyone greeted us, and after finally getting a waiter's attention, we felt rushed into ordering both drinks and dinner at the same time because service had already been so delayed. Throughout the evening we repeatedly had to ask for basic things, including bread, which we were told was coming but never arrived. The wait for food was extremely long, drink refills took far too long, and meals came out in stages, leaving some of our party's food getting cold while waiting for everyone else to be served. By the end of dinner, we chose to skip dessert and after-dinner drinks because we had already been there nearly an hour and a half. Our plates were never cleared before the check arrived, and while we understand an automatic gratuity was added for a large party, it was frustrating to pay such a significant tip after receiving poor service and a noticeable attitude from our waiter once he realized how unhappy we were. The property itself is beautiful, but the disappointing service, underwhelming food, and lack of concern from staff made this a very disappointing experience.
