Wow! I wish I took more pictures. I was here for a networking event and breakfast. The food and the service was amazing. Walking through to the banquet room I realized I really need to get here for a local getaway. We will be back.

The reviews here are surprisingly bad, but don't let them fool you or keep you from visiting this gorgeous spot if you're anywhere near the Finger Lakes; and ESPECIALLY if you're looking for a great Wedding venue. Bottom line about 99% of the bad reviews, is that the people writing them mostly seem annoyed at (a) the castle being antiquated, and/or (b) the wine at the Winery being a bit too sweet / not that stellar. ...these same people are surprised that a CASTLE built in the 1800s isn't ultra-modernized, and that Belhurst Winery serves FLX-style wine - which is known to be quite sweet on average. Make of that what you will. We've been to this spot at least 5-6 times over the last year, as we've toured Seneca lake and Geneva for special occasions. And we've had a great time, every visit. The castle itself is gorgeous from all angles, but especially from the lawn right by the lake. And you can rent suites (with genuine history) for nightly stays INSIDE the castle itself, and get a gorgeous view of the grounds and the lake depending on the room you select. Pretty awesome bonus and not very common in the United States. We've found the staff here to always be insanely sweet, kind and professional. From the wine tasting experts to the front desk team, to the superb Wedding Planners and special roles that are constantly kept busy at a venue this gorgeous. It's also situated in a great spot - close enough to Geneva to get downtown within 2-5 minutes, but far out enough to not feel crowded and still have that exclusive, somewhat secluded feel to it. The kicker for us though, is that after trying to work with 15-20 different Wedding venues along the East Coast last year, we finally found a place that was genuinely willing to tell us what kind of wedding we could have, with the specific budget we had in mind. 99% of other places will outright lie or exaggerate in order to get your business - and then charge you extra the second you confirm with them. Belhurst was the ONLY location that was willing to work with our budget and make reasonable suggestions / give us a genuine breakdown of what the costs would be, before we ever signed up with them in the first place. So whether you're just visiting or planning the day of your dreams, this is a terrific option to check out; we just stopped by for our 1st anniversary recently and loved it, can't wait to come back again.

Reviewing the hotel and the Stonecutter's restaurant. Hotel: Positives: close proximity to Geneva, especially if you are seeing a show at the Smith Opera House. Beautiful grounds if the weather is good. On Seneca Lake....gorgeous. Wine spigot in the hotel hallway ( limited to one glass per person). We received a coupon for the wine tasting with 10% off of alcohol purchases in the store. The Continental breakfast had a nice assortment of drinks and cold items. Negatives: one word comes to mind...dated. Our room was small with a very limited lake view. The windows haven't been cleaned in a very long time. The television is tiny, like a computer monitor. The spring rod to the curtains kept springing off every time I tried to open or close the drape. The shower is tiny and you can barely turn around. There are few outlets, the only ones I was able to access that worked were in the bathroom ( only one of the double outlet was functional). The carpet in our room appeared to be about thirty years old and worn. This room, called the clay room was advertised on the website to have a queen bed and a refurbished bathroom. The bathroom has not been touched in years and the queen bed turned out to be a full-size bed. Stonecutters: wonderful waitress, who kept our beverages filled and was attentive. My broccoli cheddar soup had negligible cheddar or broccoli. My salad with grilled shrimp was okay. My husband's Cuban sandwich arrived on a stale roll and he thought the fries (weirdly shaped) were reheated. His chili arrived lukewarm. Not a good experience overall. Despite this, the staff are lovely, upbeat and helpful.

The staff was simply lovely from checking in in the castle, lodging to the wine tasting to the store for nice souvenirs. Thank you for an excellent experience, my first time in a US castle. The wine was delicious and excellent, and we will be back. It was worth the drive from Washington DC.

UPDATE-After giving negative reviews and days of no response, I was finally contacted via email and informed they were refunding $75.00. That is LESS than 10% of our over $800.00 room charge. I recommend using their formula for gratuities when there. Imagine having a dinner bill of $200.00 and only tipping $20.00, apparently that is all the expect, or at least that is how they value their guests. Not worth the money SO DISAPPOINTED WE WILL NEVER GO BACK AND DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. Service sucked! Mold in food, no porters for luggage, no valet parking. I'm sorry for $400+ a night I expect some services. You get better service and breakfast at a Holiday Inn Express!! Just spent 3 days/2 nights in Bellhurst Castle. My niece got married and between our family and his family we rented the ENTIRE castle. Every family suite, every chamber room, rehearsal dinner, wedding, reception. Obviously it cost a shit ton of money. We stayed in the 'Clay Chamber # 5 or 105' both numbers were on the door. GREAT ATMOSPHERE throughout entire castle. Here is the kicker- breakfast was prepackaged muffins, bagels, donuts and coffee. For $400 a night it was a huge disappointment. Everyone drove to town for breakfast. I grabbed a bagel and started eating it before I had my contacts in and it tasted funny. I was eating Mold!!!!! I spit it out and vomited my guts out. Took it to front desk and asked for a manager to contact me via phone or email- nothing.

We were disappointed by our recent visit to Belhurst. We stayed one night in the manor house offsite. The good things were the beautiful setting on the lake, pretty house, and tasty cocktail in the lounge. And, for Valentine's Day, we were given a sweet bottle of wine, a small box of truffles, a free wine of beer tasting in the gift shop, and a 20% off coupon for one of the onsite restaurants. Unfortunately, the rest was subpar. The wine tasting was too sweet for my taste. The bed was very uncomfortable. And, we had a very unfortunate experience at the onsite Edgar's Restaurant where we ended up walking out after almost two hours without food (see my review for more details). All in all, we won't return to Belhurst.

This is an older mansion and it is apportioned as such. It was fun and completely fine. It's not been updated and retrofitted to meet unreasonable expectations. The food was good and the service was fine. They have two restaurants operating at once. So slow down and prepare to wait a bit. The view is great and the grounds are kept in good order. We loved the giant tower suite. Sure it's not a high-end and modern accommodation. But the price is reasonable and the experience is unlike anything else I've found Seneca Lake. Enjoy your stay and the free wine spigot. Loved it!

It's a beautiful place but their service does not reflect how beautiful their castle is. Cheap breakfast, literally just coffee and bagels in bags. The winery was annoying because we had to stand the whole time, it felt kind of rushed. I will say the lady who poured our wine was such a sweetheart. We were satisfied with our room because it's big however it was very old, you can just tell everything hasn't been updated in a Long time. I was a little surprised at the quality of the experience but we made the best of it

Complimentary bread and compound butter, excellent!

We went to Belhurst Castle for a quick wine tasting, dinner at Edgar's, and to buy some wine to bring home. We had a large gift card which ended up causing some issues throughout the evening. The wine tasting was pleasant and the staff was knowledgeable about the wine. Pours were consistent as well. The Viognier was the best that we had, while the "Neptune" and "Red's Red" were both solid, semi-sweet table wines. At dinner, the service was friendly and once again knowledgeable. We had a shrimp cocktail, sauteed forest mushrooms with burgundy and herbs, a prime rib, and a Delmonico steak. There was also complimentary parmesan bread with a few compound butters, which were delicious. The shrimp came out quickly, and it was a generally good dish - the shrimp itself was slightly overcooked, but still very edible and the cocktail sauce was very good, with just enough horseradish kick. Unfortunately, after this things went south. The prime rib and Delmonico steak were both ordered medium rare, but came out medium well for the prime rib, and very well done for the steak. To their credit, the waitress did ask that we cut into our dishes and see if we were satisfied. Since it had been about 45 minutes since we placed our order, we decided to just eat what we we received rather than wait for a new dish. The flavor of the prime rib was quite mild, while the Delmonico still had a very good flavor, appropriate amount of seasoning, and a nice char on it. If it had been cooked even to medium or medium well, I'm sure it would have been an excellent steak, but ultimately it ended up being fairly dry and stringy in texture. Both meats came with creamy mashed potatoes, which were pretty good although they needed a bit of salt, and asparagus which needed a few more minutes of cooking as half of the stalks were nearly raw. The mushroom side was extremely bland, and in terms of texture, was a little overcooked. Logistically, it was a bit of a pain using a gift card. We used a large gift card to pay for the tasting, the dinner and the bottles purchased after dinner. Only one employee at the front desk is authorized to re-issue new gift cards with a reduced balance, so each time we paid for anything, we had to wait 10-15 minutes to get our new gift card back. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but, within a 2.5 hour visit, we spent 45 minutes waiting to receive gift cards back, so that was rough. We hoped to spend more time taking in the sights outside, but after the time wasted, could only spend a few minutes sightseeing before heading out. Kudos to the staff who were friendly, attentive and helpful in each case, but seemed to have their hands tied by a process that could be improved in the future.

And Stonecutter's Tavern is a neat fixture in an already-fun, gorgeous spot. Once you've visited the Winery, toured the lawns in front of the castle, and maybe stopped by Edgar's (the last of which I'm kinda ambivalent about, truth be told - nice staff there but the food's nothing spectacular), I highly recommend stopping here at Stonecutter's for a good, simple meal. They have a bar area that you can order their signature Wine & Ciders at (along with just about any other drink you can think of), and you're allowed to take those drinks right outside to the Fire Pit they turn on during the evenings (you can even see the stars as you lounge outside, really amazing little spot). Beyond that though, it's a regular, casual dining spot. My wife and I have tried several menu items over the last couple of years, and our recent meal of Chili + Fries next to a very tasty grilled corned beef sandwich with sauerkraut & melted Swiss cheese was perfect for a no-fuss lunch together. Staff are super accommodating and polite, day or night. We actually showed up just after closing on Sunday night, but they still fixed us up with a couple of drinks so we could go outside and sip by the fireplace. Definitely recommend a pitstop here for anyone touring the Seneca Lake wineries or anything along those lines.

However, after waiting 30 minutes for a table in Stonecutters we finally got a call and headed to get a table. When we got to the hostess stand there was no one there for at least 10 minutes while we waited again. As we waited at least three parties queued up behind us. When the hostess (with a very bad attitude) finally reappeared she pointed at a table and told us to go sit down with no menus. I had a feeling right then we were in for trouble but my husband was just happy to be out of the house. So we sat, and sat, and sat, and finally she brought menus. Then we sat and sat and sat again waiting for a waiter who showed up about 20 minutes after we were seated. We were ready to order but he just wanted drink orders. He wrote nothing down and remembered even less. Then he brought us a lemonade which neither of us ordered. The weed gummies must be good in this part of the country. We ordered drinks and soups. The soups didn't show up until dessert time. Waiters who write nothing down should be jailed or flogged. We're undecided which. I ordered a turkey panini that allegedly had cranberries on it. My husband had a patty melt. I ordered a salad on the side. I got fries instead. We waited forever for the main courses and when they finally arrived there was no ketchup or mustard. We asked for it but it never showed up. My turkey panini was bland as hell with no discernible cranberries anywhere. And the fries I didn't order were gross and soggy. But I didn't dare ask for a salad knowing I wasn't going to get it. We are currently driving home wishing we had gone to Applebees or Denny's instead. The waiter was pleasant but totally unaware of how slow and frustrating he was. WRITE SHIT DOWN. And move like you have rent to pay please. Even still he had the confidence to ask for a tip. Good for him. It was a bold move after having to apologize every time he approached the table. My husband tips everybody way too much all the time. But this time he looked this guy dead in the eyes and said "10%" with no hesitation. I've never been more in love. If you want to witness the worst service and mid food in the country, definitely go here.

And for the 2nd time (well, 4th technically - we came back multiple times over each weekend), we had a terrific experience. The staff are SUPER nice here. This time 'round we had Ellie as our server, who gave us great suggestions on the specials and main menu items - and also Justin when we sat at the bar on another evening (super talented drink mixologist). They're just really great at making you feel welcome, you're taken care of every step of the way. The food comes out quick, you have just enough time to relax and chat between dishes but we've never felt like we had to wait long - despite how packed the place always gets (popular spot, for sure). But yeah aside from the terrific service, the main reason we keep coming back is the quality of the dishes they consistently put out there. This trip we got to try the "Friendship Fries" as a moderately spicy, super flavorful appetizer, and then we split a whole branzino in a delicious horseradish sauce. And because we heard great things about their burgers, we came back just now for another dinner and split one of those too - predictably great, barely any condiments needed really. Juicy, well-cooked and tasty as heck. They have a super extensive wine selection from FLX, France, Italy and all across the U.S., but we tend to order from their cocktail menu - just tried the "Ship of Theseus" today. Unique flavor and delightful to sip on. We kinda wanna find another spot in Geneva just so we don't get overly attached, and end up spending most dinners here from now on, whenever we're in town. But so far nothing else has really come close.

I know I'll be in the minority here and that's fine. I don't care lol…read more I went to this place a couple years ago bc my friends absolutely raved about it and holy shit! It was amazing. I never eat pulled pork...ok maybe (and this legitimately) like once a year and that's if I'm at some reception and it's an option, I go to NY and my friends wanna go here. Other than that, I'll never be like "mmm omg! I'm so in the mood for a pulled pork sandwich tonight! LETSSSS! GO!" That has never happened lol. Pulled pork is so good .. TASTY as in good! Good for you? Duh, who doesn't know it's so bad for you haha! That's why once a year is good for me. So we went to Pete's a last month (August 1st 2026 to be exact). I was pretty excited bc of my first time being there. This time...yeah, let's just say I don't care to ever do again. I ordered the same pulled pork sandwich and 2 sides of Mac n cheese bc Mac n cheese at places like this...next level shit. Wasn't this time tho. It was like ... old and not even hot. Was a major letdown. The pork..:was just a scoop plopped on my tray. No bun was given to me. I needed two if I'm being honest. I was like "oh, don't I get a roll or something?" The girl behind the counter look so irritated when I asked. So, lemme get this right...you order the pulled pork SANDWICH and they give a big scoop on a tray and just expect what...you eat it with your hands or a fork? Sure, some prob do that but again...I ordered the... sandwich. Sandwiches always come with/on a roll? Correct? Or 2 slices of bread? I legit ordered the exact same thing as last time. Last time a roll was provided. Hell, the sandwich was made. Now, this place is INSANELY popular. Most bbq places are when done right. My friend and her man are regulars here. They swear by it. I didn't have the heart this time to tell them that I absolutely hated it. The way the cook looked at me when I asked for a roll..:I'll never forget that. It's almost like she was about to say "yeah, $3 more for the roll" even tho I GUARANTEE the roll is a Wegmans brand hamburger roll and if anything should I dunno....be included when you order...that's right...A SANDWICH. That brings me to the cost. The sandwich and Mac n cheese cost ... $30!! THIRTY. DOLLARS!! And it wasn't even a sandwich until I MADE IT hahaha! THIRTY! DOLLARS! Not sure if the cashier made a mistake bc the prices were the same pretty much as last time and it was $18 last time. Even if prices have gone up (like most places) a $12 increase for the same thing in that short period of time... asinine. I seriously could have gone to the restaurant at Belhurst and gotten a meal that I actually ordered or literally any other restaurant haha. Not sure if the popularity of this place has officially ruined it (at least for me), but a lot of times when restaurants blow up the way this place has...they tend to change and not for the better. They get comfortable and get away with all kinds of shit. It's unfortunate bc I know the next time I'm in town, they'll all wanna go here and I'll go but I'll just order a drink. Probably cost me $8 just for the actual soda and $3 for the tiny cups they give you hahaha. Aside from that ride cook, the staff is actually pretty friendly. So they do have that going for them. Anyone who has been, knows this place is insanely busy and busy all the time. We waited in line, out the door for 30 mins. IMHO, after this latest visit, it's so not worth the wait and you have to DRIVE way out. So the drive, the lines, the cost, and the scoop of meat on a tray...seriously, find another place. I know this review won't change many minds and that's fine. You either really love this place, feel meh about it, or hate it. I'm kinda in between meh and hate even tho hate is a strong word. I just don't see the need for me to ever drive all the way out there again, wait in a long ass like, spend $30+ for a sandwich etc etc when there are so many other options in Geneva and along the road leading out to Pete's. Again, I'm fully aware this review will like have zero impact. I'm just giving my two cents bc I was so excited to finally go back just to leave disappointed. Ok. That's it! Oh! One last thing, the restaurant itself is cool. Bar/restaurant setup is pretty awesome. The "backyard"/patio is great for the summer/warmer months. They close at like 9 which is wild. Backyard too..like zero lighting. So when that sun starts to go down...get out your phones and turn them flashlights on bc it's dark...at least it was when I was there last. Thanks for reading, Yelpeters! Cheers!
