COVID tasting set up under tents outside
    Tansy W.

Best Cayuga Whites in the region. 2019 Sauvignon Blanc wasn't bad either. Stop here for a quick tasting and to check out the gift shop but otherwise, it's missing on the beautiful views that other wineries have. Free wine glass with a $10 tasting for 5 wines. If you order online, I think you can do custom labels. I did it a while ago but not sure if they still have it available. They have tents set up outside for tastings during COVID.

Hosmer winery was recommended by my sister. The main house was an adorable, quaint-looking house. We entered, masks on, and made our wine selections from Hosmer's extensive list. We were given a wine glass to take home with us, and our selections were brought out in paper shot glasses. They were marked with numbers corresponding to a sheet of paper so we knew which wine we were drinking, which I greatly appreciated. I loved the rustic, relaxed feel of the tents and mismatched chairs. Hosmer didn't feel stuffy at all. I enjoyed most of the wines I tasted, but the Raspberry Rhapsody was wonderful and I ended up eagerly buying a bottle to take home. Our service was great, but I was disappointed to learn that our flights, at ten dollars each, were double the normal price of wine tasting at Hosmer. I do understand that Hosmer is a business and looking to recover lost profits from the coronavirus. And ten dollars for a five-option flight with a take-home glass wasn't too bad. Included in the cost was a bag of oyster crackers, a sneaky (and illegal) way of getting around the Governor's coronavirus rules. The wine was delicious and I'm so happy to learn that Hosmer wines are featured in many of the liquor store in the Rochester area.

Stopped here while on this side of the lake. As soon as we went in and were greeted, they told us to pick which wines we wanted to try. They would bring them out to you with a glass per person trying the wine. The woman waiting on us provided us a rich history of the place. She said that she loves the Pittsburgh Steelers. She drives down for a game annually. The wine tastings and wine was good. Great place, nice atmosphere.

We stopped by to do a tasting. It was a bit busy when we stopped by but they seated us quickly. The person doing the tasting was knowledgeable and explained everything. We liked the selection of the wines and we got to keep the glass in the end!

Visited Hosmer Winery on Thursday evening. While there was nothing particularly bad about our visit, it was just an unmemorable experience in an area where a lot of wineries are doing more to stand out. Quality: We arrived at Hosmer Winery later in the day, and even though they were still technically open for another hour it seemed like they were already closing things out. The response to asking for a Tasting was not great and we did not receive much in terms of feedback when asking about recommendations. We ended up splitting just one Tasting. I thought the Semi-Dry Riesling was the best of the bunch we tried, but not to the point we considered a bottle. We thought about another Tasting, but when we stuck our head back inside no one was there, which we took as another sign that they were done for the day. Quantity: The Tasting came with five pours, which were all the same size in the plastic cups. Value: $12 for a Tasting that comes with a wine glass. Ambiance: Hosmer Winery is located along the west side of Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lake region of New York. They have a small and simple indoor tasting room. There was a bar area insider, but they were setting up all tastings so the guests could navigate the wines themselves. The outside area was quite large with a big tent and then some additional seating uncovered on the lawn. It seemed like a missed opportunity to do a guided tasting outside, but COVID has clearly had an impact. They have nice views of the nearby vines, but they don't have a spot that overlooks the water. Crowd: There were about six guests sitting under the tent outside on Thursday afternoon. At least two had dogs, and it was clear it is a very pet friendly location. Service: For a Tasting they had us go inside and select the wines we wanted to try. They then provide a wooden block with the different wines poured in plastic cups, along with a glass to pour each into. The menu had short descriptions of the different wines. The staff was not very involved in the process and be warned they may close early on weekdays Parking: Private parking lot at the front of the property.

This was a great winery. Their wine and hospitality was amazing. We did a tour that took us here and they had the wine and pairing set up great. It made me want to enjoy my tasting and buy wine bc the wine tasted great and the people were friendly. Katie helped explain every wine and food pairing. She was great. She made our wine tasting memorable. Very friendly!

Came on a Sunday where there was a concert series. The band did cover songs and was a great addition to the visit. Got their wine slushee and mimosa. Was a bit on the sweeter side than I would've preferred, but overall pretty tasty.

Nice winery, it was nice of them to participate in the Ithaca teacher appreciation week. Our pourmiester was very friendly and enjoyable to chat with. They had a handful of nice....this could pair with a lot....of options.

The timing wasn't ideal, and at first, the staff member at the counter seemed hesitant to offer a tasting, expressing concern that we might not have enough time to fully enjoy the experience. Understandably, with just 20 minutes left, they didn't want to rush through what should be a relaxed, immersive tasting. However, after we reassured her that we'd be happy to share a tasting and keep things brief, her demeanor quickly shifted. She transitioned from cautious to warm, professional, and incredibly accommodating, making us feel truly welcomed despite the late hour. In moments like this, it's always great to see how much the right attitude and hospitality can enhance a wine tasting experience. The Tasting Experience We sampled five different wines, each offering something unique. Even though we were moving quickly through the tasting, we still took time to appreciate the flavors and characteristics of each pour. Ithaca Red - A Standout Favorite One wine that immediately stood out was the Ithaca Red, a dry red with bright fruit-forward notes of raspberry and strawberry jam, balanced by a medium body and a lingering spicy finish. It struck that perfect balance between vibrant acidity and smooth tannins, making it an incredibly enjoyable, easy-drinking red. It was so good that we didn't hesitate to grab two bottles to take home, ensuring we could enjoy it again later. Lemberger - A Dark, Spiced Delight Another highlight was the Lemberger, a varietal that often flies under the radar but consistently impresses me. This one had deep, rich dark fruit flavors that reminded me of ripe blackberries and plums, complemented by a lightly spiced finish. It was well-structured yet approachable, a perfect choice for those who love medium-bodied reds with a little complexity. Though those two stood out the most, every wine we sampled was well-crafted, balanced, and a true reflection of the region. A Fun Bills vs. Steelers Moment In addition to the great wine, we had an unexpected and fun football-related conversation with one of the winery's owners, who happens to be a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan. As soon as he spotted my Steelers jacket, the conversation naturally steered toward football--a classic AFC rivalry moment. We ended up chatting about the infamous Bills vs. Chiefs game (yes, that controversial first down call!), and we found some rare common ground--both agreeing that Buffalo did, in fact, get that first down. It was a fun, lighthearted exchange that added another layer of personality to the visit. Moments like this remind me why I love visiting small, locally-owned wineries--you're not just drinking wine, you're connecting with the people behind it. A Winery Worth Revisiting Despite the short timeframe, Six Mile Cellars left a lasting impression. From the quality of the wines to the friendly, engaging atmosphere, it was a great way to wrap up a full day of exploring wineries and breweries. I'd love to return with more time to spare, perhaps on a sunny afternoon when I can relax on the property, enjoy a glass of wine, and soak in the surroundings without worrying about the clock. This visit may have been brief, but it certainly won't be my last. If you're in the area and appreciate well-crafted wines, welcoming hospitality, and a little football banter, Six Mile Cellars is absolutely worth a stop. A perfect way to end an already fantastic day.

On the minus side, the rieslings were a bit flat compared to those of Dr. Konstantin Frank. Also, we made an advance reservation for 2pm, but the facility ignored it since it appeared to have a general "walk-in" policy for everyone. One downside of ignoring advance reservations is that it created a chaotic experience with customer waves. His deep knowledge and passion shone through as he shared the rich history of the winery. The owners originally purchased land in Bucks County for farming but later moved to the Finger Lakes region, where they expanded into winemaking, a bakery, and a deli--a true craft-driven endeavor. Tabora was offering a special deal: buy one tasting flight, get the second free. Normally, I gravitate toward the drier the better, but the Winemaker's Jam caught my eye. My flight included: 1. 2021 Pinot Noir 2. 2021 Cabernet Franc 3. N.V. Heritage Noir 4. 2021 Maréchal Foch I started with the Pinot Noir, a light-bodied wine with aromas of cherry blossoms, strawberries, and dried fruit--absolutely sensational. Keith explained that all of Tabora's wines age in used French oak barrels but never for more than 18 months. Instead of prolonged oak aging, they transition the wine to stainless steel, preserving freshness while imparting just a touch of oak influence. Next up was the Cabernet Franc, which had soft tannins, a light body, and notes of raspberry and green bell pepper, with a slight oak finish--and wow, it was good. Then came my hands-down favorite: the Heritage Noir, a blend of different wines that was dry yet bursting with layered fruit flavors. It was truly an incredible experience on the palate. Finally, I sampled the Maréchal Foch, a sensational, jammy wine with hints of blackberry and pomegranate and a beautifully smooth finish. But Keith wasn't done yet--he had me try a few more, including an unoaked Cabernet Franc, which became another favorite. Aged 100% in stainless steel, it was bright with red fruit, hints of cherry, vanilla, and a touch of chocolate on the finish. Beyond the wines, Keith himself was a standout. As we sipped, he shared his life journey--from New York to Hawaii, a path shaped by his mother and sister. His stories were captivating, and if he ever writes a book, I'd be the first in line to read it. Cheers to Keith and Tabora for an unforgettable experience! #fingerlakes

This place was chosen for both the proximity to our Air BnB and also because it was more affordable then some of the other vineyards in the area. Reservations are not taken on the weekends, but we were able to walk in with relatively no crowds. However, by the time we left, it was packed! All of us opted for a flight - which, for the prince, how could you go wrong? The staff was incredibly pleasant and attentive, and they TRULY knew their products.
