There were 10 of us celebrating a birthday on a Monday night. Drinks were amazing. 4 people got the lavender Spritz (having loved it before) I had Vieux Carre and my friend had the Boulevardier. I came here with a few friends planning to try their brunch, not realizing that they only serve brunch on Sundays. Nevertheless, we stayed and tried their lunch menu. My friends had a fried calamari appetizer, which I tried and enjoyed. The batter was light and crispy and the sauce it came with was good. There was a slight hiccup because it came out sprinkled with cheese on top and one of my friends is lactose intolerant. The menu didn't mention the cheese and my friend didn't request it without cheese. However, the server brought out another portion (about half the size of the regular appetizer) without cheese just for my friend. I had the Brussels sprout salad with Parmesan instead of bleu cheese. I liked the light sweet vinaigrette on top and the bacon/fried pork belly bits were delicious! I didn't add any protein to it; I wasn't very hungry so the portion was perfect. I also had a few bites of my spouse's grilled chicken club sandwich, I think, and it was really really good. The bacon was so nice and thick, the tomatoes seemed fresh, and the bun was buttered and toasted. We didn't wait long for our food, since we got there right when they opened at 11 on a Saturday. There was only one other group there besides ours. The ambience is nice. I would be open to going again to actually try their brunch! read more

So I had pretty high expectations for this place from looking at reviews and was SO excited to try it. The service was great, everything came out very quickly and our waitress was friendly. The cheese curds were great of course and Caesar salad was good as well! Was a bit let down by the entrees however. The brisket dip was tender and easy to eat, but it tasted more like corned beef I thought and was very heavy on the meat. The fries were nothing special, typical bar fries. The pork chop was fine but pretty chewy and the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. The brussel sprouts were pretty hard/undercooked but had good flavor. The bartender (maybe a little sleepy) was not friendly, nor unfriendly, but didn't seem...interested? Hubs ordered french press coffee, and the temp was just warm, not hot at all. My mimosa was fine. Water was left in a bottle, so plentiful and we got a new one very timely. From the online menu, I wanted the Burrata, but the actual menu had a truffle burrata w/ mushrooms, and a few other things were different, so this must be a changing menu, which is totally fine, we just didn't know. My waffle and fruit had good flavor, but was disappointingly luke warm and the syrup accompanying was cold! If that were at least served warm, it would have helped. Hubs' burger was so very good, as were the frites crispy and at a good temp. There was an upcharge of $1 for truffle fries, though he didn't order anything special, and the description said it came with fries, so not sure what that was about, and he didn't care to ask. The space is really cool and intimate, even in covid times. I will go back for another meal, perhaps dinner, and try again. Everything they have posted looks amazing. read more

Stone Turtle is located on the corner of Tamm and Clayton in the space formally occupied by Felix's. Parking is strictly street parking. There are 2 entrances- one on Clayton will lead you right into the bar; a second entrance at the corner will lead you into the restaurant side where you will find a hostess stand. We were here for cocktail with friends, so we only tried a few small plates. -The Caesar salad was over-dressed, but the dressing itself did taste lovely. The "croutons" were even better- they were softer, fresh bread croutons with a good bite. -For drinks, I had the Italian Spritz- Italian liquor, prosecco, orange twist, and lemon juice. Much sweeter than I expected, but still a nice cocktail with plenty of bubbles. -Husband tried the Instagram-famous "Smoked Old Fashioned." The drink is served in a mason jar full of smoke with the cap on. The suggestion is to swirl the jar for several minutes while the smoke infuses the drink. Or, you can shake vigorously for a minute to speed up the process. The downside to shaking is that the lid is not water-tight and your drink will end up on your shirt. The ice in the rocks glass is a huge piece with a plastic turtle frozen inside. This drink is all hype (and the plastic turtle is a lovely parting gift), but the smoke is just too subtle to be worth the hassle. -Husband's 2nd drink was the Blood and Sand. They have a fun list of cocktails; I selected the smoked old fashioned. It was good, I enjoyed the flavors, but I felt it was a bit weak. A fun bonus is they freeze plastic turtles in their ice cubes! I loved it. Once we sat down at our table, we decided on some olives and chickpeas as shareables. The flavors of both were good, but I was expecting the chickpeas to be crispy, not mushy, which made them and odd snack. I had a small appetite last night, so I went with the burrata salad, which was good but heavy on the cheese and lite on the salad. I would have liked more greens. My boyfriend got the fish and chips, which was OK but not out of this world. Our group of four shared some fries and a paltry side of asparagus. I rounded out my meal with a paloma which was also a bit on the weak side. Overall, nice atmosphere and well paced service, but lacking in creativity in the food and slightly weak drinks given the price and vibe. The dressing wasn't too tart and not too anchovy, just right. Next up, Mac n Cheese appetizer. That's right, here it's an app, not a side. Large enough for 4 if you don't want to get full off of it. I tell you what....they nailed that mac n cheese. We were fighting ourselves not to eat it all. So, where things got tricky was with our main dish, we both opted for fish n chips. Weeeell, unfortunately, they botched the cook on the fish. Wasn't done. Sadly had to send back, but the co-owner was so gracious and accommodating. He replaced our dishes and comped our meal. Wife had the chicken & waffles which she let me try and they were fantastic! It had an initial taste of heat but not too spicy for her (she doesn't like spicy foods). Grandma wanted to eat at a chain restaurant so she was complaining from the get go but that changed with her omelet. She liked it a lot. Stepson had the breakfast burrito and ate it all! Like any new business they are still learning, the walk up reservations left a lot to be desired- we never got a table (I was thinking 4 stars due to this, but I have hope they will fix it. We did get to sit at the bar and watch the bartenders make some unique drinks. I was intrigued by the Applewood Smoked Old Fashioned. The take a piece of wood, heat it and infuse the smoke in a jar with the Old Fashioned, close it and bring it me with a rocks glass with a large ice cube with a turtle (no, not real) frozen inside. The drink was excellent! We ordered the Steak, which was a very nice sized piece for the money and very tasty. We also had the Burger and the Gnocchi - all were very good generous portions. For Bar snacks, I highly recommend the Pork Belly & Cashews for $5- awesome, awesome, awesome!!!!! Once again a very generous portion. The Stone Turtle is whiskey bar and the two who ordered a Manhattan and a Vieux Carre said they were extremely well made. On a fun note, the large ice cube in the Manhattan had a plastic turtle in it! Dinner for the group consisted of wings, fries, the burger, mac and cheese, brussel sprouts and a cheddar salad. Everyone said their meals were quite good and everyone said they'd come back. I was excited to learn they offer brunch on the weekends too! We had dinner here last weekend and was not overly impressed. I had been told they are known for their amazing lobster roll. It was ok.... there was a lot of mayo and chopper up cucumber in it. The side of parmesan fries that the server suggested was cold and nothing special. We had 2 appetizers the cashews and pork belly which would have been better with some crunch and the stuffed dates. The burrata was a generous portion and it was very good. My large steak, perfectly medium rare, had a delicious peppercorn sauce and came with broccolini and a yummy fried polenta wedge. I'm sorry but we've been to Stone Turtle 2x and just don't get it. We recently visited for Brunch and my omelet was overcooked and bland (fries were excellent). My wife ordered chicken and waffles and it was smothered in hot sauce when she asked for it on the side. Literally 1/2 the waffle was soggy / soaked through from all the hot sauce. For dinner we had a burger and lobster roll both were good-again nothing out of this world. I asked for my burger without a bun but it still came with one-which is whatever but wasteful.
